@Flaming_Kaiser Sharp decline. Not to mention how much the fanbase hated the story and game play formula last time around. If they don't do something different next time they will find have a straight up controversial launch on their hands like Bethesda and Ubisoft
I hope that this flop will force Ubisoft to try and appeal to gamers again. The rumors about AC Hexe are... let's just say that even Ubisoft knows everyone will be pissed.
@MrPeanutbutterz Just because the developers are passionate doesn't mean that it translated into a better product. HFW had a lukewarm reception overall. I hope that the studio switches things up.
I've noticed that there is a trend that these Sony sequels do worse than the originals. Spiderman 2, GOW Ragnarok and HFW didn't outdo the originals while surely being more expensive to make.
Gives me hope for a new and better Sony in 5 years time.
@DonJorginho I just want you to know that what you are saying right now is reinforcing the fact that creating games that appear woke is a bad business move.
And no, the real reason Starfield, Horizon and AC disappoint and are headed for straight up failure is because the gameplay and writing are painfully generic. The games are outdated. BG3 is innovative in it's genre and ambitious.
@Medic_alert They are not making a fortune. CDPR, Larian and FromSoft are making a fortune. That's why they are expanding.
I am a believer in capitalism because it works. It's the sole reason we are gamers to begin with. Your precious Disco Elysium wouldn't even exist without AAA games. There would be no justification in creating small weird niche products without the massive infrastructure that capitalism provides.
@thefourfoldroot1 In my experience people say that VR is kinda clunky and gets old fast. Especially because most of the games are short or goofy looking.
@Jswift56 Standards are increasing over time. Back when Horizon 1 came out there were millions of PS4 users who still weren't bored of the bland open world formula so they enjoyed it and gave it scores it didn't deserve. By the time the sequel came out the jig was up. If Horizon 3 isn't a massive shake up with an actually interesting narrative they will have a hole in their pockets like Ubisoft.
They can polish this turd as much as they want, it's still a turd. If the next Horizon game isn't a massive improvement in structure and especially writing they will start facing the same problems Ubisoft are facing now.
@Medic_alert If the developers are not pushing back then they have no rights to complain. Game development is just a job. The goal is to make money.
It's fun to treat games as art in online discussions when they are successful, but the reality is that most games that don't follow industry standards or target big demographics fail and someone ends up losing money.
@Medic_alert Again in the defense of the 'money men' the developers of Suicide Squad and Concord wanted to work on the games they were making. They were just bad games.
There is a big skill gap in the gaming industry. Not a creativity issue. And yes a lot of developers target niche or nonexistent demographics and wonder why they don't find financial success.
@Medic_alert All I'm saying is that 'corporate greed' is a massive oversimplification. There are many people involved from both the development and the funding side. Just recently the director of The Callisto Protocol admitted that he didn't say or do enough to make sure that the game meets the expectations of fans.
And many studios that do lay offs simply don't release games that make sense like DONTNOD and surely Deck Nine will be on the chopping block as well. Compare them to FromSoft who increased the salaries of their employees.
@LowDefAl I did allude to that right at the start of the post. Of course BG3 will do better than whatever indie game with a cutesy artsy that 50k people will buy max. And rightly so. BG3 is a much better product.
@Fluessigmetall I actually prefer FPS when done right, but most studios don't have the budget and skill of CDPR. You really need fancy animations and graphics to make the immersion of first person worth it over the ease of third person.
@gollumb82 I think that you are forgetting what happened when CP2077 launched. CDPR was adamant that the game was going to be released only when ready and they intentionally hid the old gen versions completely and didn't allow PC reviewers to use their own footage.
And on top of all of this the game was truly just broken for many users. Steam and even SONY were offering refunds. That almost never happens. The game was pulled from sale.
#Neverforget. It can only make the sequel and Witcher 4 better.
@gollumb82 Nah. The game had many bugs and unfinished features like the cop chases. Not to mention some outright missing features like car customization.
There is no need for you to become defensive. If you truly love the franchise you will hold CDPR accountable. It can only result in better games.
@Weez The fact that Cyberpunk didn't sell RDR2 numbers is making me happy. I hope that despite it's massive success the head honchos over there think to themselves 'Damn. We could have sold twice as many copies by now if we hadn't ***** up the launch'.
@nessisonett I know that your gut reaction is to feel sorry for employees who lost their jobs. It's a nice trait to have. But you also need to realize that if studios are making games that no1 wants to play someone out there is losing money. And that's just not fair. Life is not black and white.
I know that people like to hit Ubisoft while they are down, but I am actually happy that they are listening to criticisms. The difference between this game being awful and potentially being good can be as small as some dialogue changes after consulting with real historians.
No1 had issues with silly historical figures 15 years ago, but nowadays you gotta do better. Especially if you are going to promote your game as being historical.
@LifeGirl FromSoft just announced pay bumps BTW. It's almost as if they release games that people want to play and Dontnod haven't had a clue since the original LIS.

@ecurb7 GOW, Horizon and SM sequels are did worse than the originals and had larger budgets.

Re: Sony's Guerrilla Sounds Completely Done with the Killzone Series
@AdamNovice Just goes to show that people are as tired of Horizon as they were of Killzone. Time to move on.
Re: Crimson Desert Dev Found PS5 Exclusive Opportunity Appealing
DAMN. 33% of the profits go to the developer. Seems kinda *****.

On which platforms?

@PuppetMaster Maybe around 7-9 years?

Re: Naughty Dog's Next Game Will Reportedly Put More of a Focus on 'Player Freedom'
@Ainu20 I don't know what has lowered the IQ of gamers more. Lead poisoning or Ubisoft games.
Re: Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona Director Katsura Hashino Is Already Grinding Out a New JRPG
Sci-Fi is the next logical step. Or something funkier like Cyberpunk. I just don't want more high-school games from a studio as big as Atlus.
Re: Naughty Dog's Next Game Will Reportedly Put More of a Focus on 'Player Freedom'
@Puketapu Freedom is never a problem. Focusing on quantity over quality always is.

Chicken or the egg?
People don't care about VR because of small games or developers don't make big games because people don't care about VR?
2 of the most loaded questions of the modern age.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Exec Shawn Layden Says There's Been a 'Collapse' in Gaming Creativity
Why is it so hard for people to comprehend that games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, BG3 will sell a lot more copies than smaller games?
They have the budget and talent to make an amazing and lengthy experience.
I don't care about what some indie or AA studio does in the months following such massive releases. Even Starfield and AC are not enough anymore.
People want quality and most studios can't even be compared to what Larian did last year. It's as simple as that.
Spoiler alert: GTA 6 will do well.

Re: IO Interactive's Project 007 to Feature a 'Young Bond for Gamers' with a View to a Trilogy
I just hope that the story has a serious tone. It's a lot easier to not get bored sneaking through levels if you care about what's going on.

I am surprised that the little girl didn't win. I guess that it's because the studio is Polish/American not Japanese.
