Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 442

Itsacardgame

@Dezzy70 the Sony is still decent, but the LG really is the top choice. I would have liked to get the LG C1/2, but I wanted as big as I could get and was still worried about OLED burn (no worries any more), so I went with a Sony X95J in it’s largest size. It’s good and Sony finally updated it with the PS5 features. LG has them out of the box.

Check out HDTVTest youtube page for detailed analysis and comparisons of the best TVs and very dry humor.

Re: Some Fans Think PSP's Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Is Getting a PS5, PS4 Remaster

Itsacardgame

@nessisonett You mean Gackt? He co-colabed in creating that character. And he tends to love video games and being in them, so I didn't think he would have an issue with it, but I haven't been following. But it would be great to get the Crisis Core content in the remake, or further additions to it.

In general, wasn't there supposed to be a full anthology of FF7 stories in game form to be released for all platforms at some point?

Re: Poll: How Far Into Elden Ring Are You?

Itsacardgame

For whatever reason, I’ve been avoiding where the story said I should go, and just went off exploring on my own. Done most of the eastern and southern areas except for the bosses there. Got a lot of great screenshots of places I shouldn’t be in. I like seeing all the new weird stuff, but I better get back on track, because I’ll be led to these areas in due time.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Itsacardgame

I tend to choose easy mode in games because I have nothing to prove to anybody and want to bust through a game as quick as I can due to life time constraints.

But not with these games. I savor every second I’m in them, if I’m succeeding or not. If I was to run through an area and blast everything super easily I wouldn’t remember any of it. Having to try again and find my efficiencies, my way, and ultimately my victory makes me live in this world and remember it like taking the morning trains from Shinjuku to Shinagawa Seaside. There’s things you don’t notice the first and only time you go through something, but the more you do it, the more routine it gets, the more details you connect with.

It’s like learning an instrument. Do you stop playing trumpet because you can’t figure out how to make the C and G notes not the same?

It’s not that it’s meant to be hard to be hard. They just made a game that they wanted to make. The original Legend of Zelda was hard, but they didn’t set out to make a hard game. But you can beat it be learning from it. Zelda II is a harder game, but again, not meant to be hard just to be hard. It is also overcomable by learning it’s rhythm. Some people won’t have time to live in the game and that’s fine. They can do them. There are other ways they can enjoy the game and know about it without wasting their time learning how to play it. We can’t play all games. We just got to focus on what works for us.

Re: Bloodborne Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa Teams Up with Team Ninja

Itsacardgame

@Ultrasmiles yeah, they own the IP. Maybe I was arguing a different point, that when From is the developer, they want full control. I don’t think Sony would want to have someone else make a new game in the series. Bluepoint has proven they can port games and do a really good job of remaking games, but we really haven’t seen what they can create on their own. Sony can back them to dev it, but that’s a huge risk.

Re: Bloodborne Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa Teams Up with Team Ninja

Itsacardgame

@NomNom when I worked with them they did. Sony does own the IP to Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne just as BNE owns the IP to Dark Souls and Elden Ring and Activision owns Sekiro. BNE had no control over production of the games, only publishing rights and that included testing, marketing, and manufacturing. The BNE producers were responsible for keeping those things on track and relaying the issues back to From. I assume it was the same for Sony and Activision.

What Sony could do, since they own the IP is hire Team Ninja to develop Bloodborne II, but that could be super awkward and result in a different understanding of the IP.

Re: Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska Star in Netflix's Resident Evil

Itsacardgame

@Darthrau yeah, sticking with the Hoff would have been uhh… something, I don’t know what. I don’t know if Marvel started this path in the early 2000’s or joined something already in progress I wasn’t aware of but the changes to characters have been going on all over for a while. Not necessarily a bad thing. People have been retelling stories for centuries and those have had cultural edits applied to them, maybe not all in good faith. Does the change make sense within the universe? Does it disrupt the universe (I’m talking meta “in-universe” of the made fiction (or real life, too, I suppose))? Then why would it need to be one way or the other, and why do we really care?

I haven’t yet seen anything Lance has been in, so I’m not a judge of how well this is going to go. And we’ve been used to Wesker being what he’s been for what 25 years? So it’ll certainly be jarring for some.

Re: Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska Star in Netflix's Resident Evil

Itsacardgame

@Darthrau I tried to word it in that way without explaining too much. SLJ was “cast” as Nick Fury in the comic years before he was offered the actual role in the movies. I don’t remember people being upset that the Ultimate Nick Fury was black. Maybe just upset that Ultimatum happened…

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Hypes Up This Week's Event, Has 'Plenty' to Announce

Itsacardgame

There’s 12 leaves in the 35th anniversary logo. The leaves look like Yggdrasil leaves. I’ve read someone mention about 12 slimes in one of the images and that the stream is at 12 JST. It will probably be XII, but not too long now to find out, on Dragon Quest day.

Whatever it turns out to be, it’ll still be amazing when that grand opening music plays.

Re: PS5 Stock: When and Where to Buy PlayStation 5 in May 2021

Itsacardgame

After some data crawling, here are some predictions on when things might be in stock in the US at least, and in PST. No guarantees, just the current consistencies.

First week of the month, check Walmart on Thursdays around 12pm

2nd week:
Tuesday - Playstation Direct, 1pm
Wednesday - Gamestop, 10:30am

  • playstation Direct, 1pm
    Thursday - Best Buy - 12:40pm
    Friday - Best Buy, 12:40pm

3rd week:
Thursday - Walmart, 12pm

4th week:
Wednesday - Target, 4am

  • Gamestop, 10:30am
    Thursday - Target, 4am
  • Best Buy, 12:40pm
    Friday - Best Buy, 12:40am

Again, these are in stock for 10 to 30 minutes.
Gamestop is all bundles.
Playstation Direct is most consistent.
PD and Best Buy are fairly concise with their stock (no in and out of stock every minute).
Walmart is the worst in and out of stock (the worst being on 3/18 in/out 23 times)
Walmart also sells out the fastest, sometimes within a few minutes. This could be bots buying them. Then possibly being canceled leading to restocks, repeat.
Gamestop also sells out very fast.

Re: PS5 Stock: When and Where to Buy PlayStation 5 in May 2021

Itsacardgame

Over on NowInStock the data shows these are selling out within 30min of stock being posted. Most people don't even know when stock will be posted. A lot of the time, stock sells out in 10 min.

Every time I look at this page it just says out of stock. I’d be lucky to see this page say it’s in stock and still have enough time to go and buy it.

What would be interesting to see if you could pull your data to see when the common date/time for new stock is. Should we be looking at certain stores on certain days at certain times?

Re: PS Plus Oversight Is a Bummer for PS3, PS Vita Owners

Itsacardgame

I commented about this last time. A possible solution is to use a secondary account. This works for PS3, as you don’t need to be signed in on the account that bought it to play it (unsure about those DRM titles, like Bionic Commando) Kinda works for PSP as you can have games from multiple accounts on the same storage device, but need the PSN to assign the psp to the account of which you want to play the games, or hack it cough cough. Kinda the same for Vita but more of a hassle with the memory card switching... or hack it

Re: PS3 Owners Facing Wide-Spread Problems Downloading Games Ahead of PS Store Closure

Itsacardgame

@Olmaz right there with you on the PSPgo. It’s pretty nifty. Also having 2 data storage locations is great if you want to keep things separate. Games like DJ Max check for roms or maybe folders calls roms on the same storage device it is loaded from, and won’t load to title screen if you do have any of that.

Also, there is a certain modder in Japan that sells an M2 to SD adaptor to really expand that M2 slot so you can maximize your storage capacity.

Re: PS3 Owners Facing Wide-Spread Problems Downloading Games Ahead of PS Store Closure

Itsacardgame

@Olmaz you are correct.

PS3 is straight forward:
Add new profile, sign in to new account, leave on system, every profile can play

Vita:
A. Buy another mem card, reset every time (ugh...)
B. Buy another Vita/PSTV + mem cards (prices, ouch!)
C. Hack you Vita (yeah!), although, I’m not sure how multi-accounts work in this scenario, as I haven’t tried yet.

PSP:
You can have games from multiple accounts on the same memory stick, but you have to log into the associated account and activate that psp to that account to play the games. So there is account switching required, but no resetting. This could be affected by the store shut down, we’ll have to see. Unless you’ve hacked your psp (come on, is there a psp out there that hasn’t?).

Re: PS3 Owners Facing Wide-Spread Problems Downloading Games Ahead of PS Store Closure

Itsacardgame

@Olmaz For me, since I haven’t been a PS+ member for at least a year, maybe a bit longer, I was able to purchase games that had expired. Glad I started my redownloads of this stuff a couple weeks ago, but it seems it will be pain from here on out.

Maybe you could create another profile to keep on the console just to purchase those titles, since any profile on the console could play the games.

Re: Sony Locks the Door on Legacy Web-Based PS Store

Itsacardgame

Sony’s online component has never been great, and only seems to get worse over time. There’s tons of stuff they need to address. Just tried downloading all Persona Dancing DLC for the impending closure and boy was it a task. You can only have so much queued for downloading (and then installing) that anything else failed, and keeping track of what actually downloaded and what got skipped, I had to make a spreadsheet. Plus needing to remove content because of full memory cards. This took all day.

Re: Elden Ring Trailer Leak May Have Delayed the Official Reveal

Itsacardgame

Bandai Namco’s Marketing department’s typical MO is to hit the dates they target no matter what. They usually have a late winter/early spring showing, but due to covid, might have pushed that out or decided since everything has slowed down, nothing is ready for them to market right now. I don’t believe they’ve halted a trailer reveal due to a small leak. The IT team is probably investigating where the leak happened. And it may not have even been internally either. They outsource most of the work, so it could have came from several different sources around the world.

Re: Soapbox: The Real Problem with Sony's State of Play Livestreams

Itsacardgame

@GingerSilent just to key in on something you said:

Lacks excitement

Boy, howdy were some of those presentations boring. Let’s get the most boring guy in the company to read the game design doc over several minutes of vertical slice. Or let’s get the next most boring person to read the tutorials out loud or describe this one weapon that you’ll use exactly once in the tutorial before defaulting to something better.

Then we got to the Sifu trailer, and let me tell you, that was exciting and even better, concise. I know everything I need to know about that game in under 60 seconds.

Re: Feature: Could PlayStation Do More to Promote Green Packaging?

Itsacardgame

@LeeHarveyOzgod hopefully we’ll have enough storage space on our drives by then. That’s really my big problem. As a collector, keeping digital games can be tough when you run out of space. (Jeez, this is weird) Right now, I’m trying to track down some images from the SCEJ website for IQ Mania on PSP. Those images unlocked bonus minigames on the UMD just by having them on your memory stick. That website is now gone and I might have those images on an old hdd, but it’ll take some digging. Digital preservation with antiquated data is tough when someone decides that storage space is better used for something else. And when that data is no longer obtainable (limited time offering, too old, we’re updating our store, cease and desist), then we’re screwed. It’s what keeps me swaying back and forth between digital and physical. I’ve got tons of games where I have both. I’m trying to now only do that with my most important games.

Re: New Releases on PS Vita's Store Updated for First Time in Eons

Itsacardgame

Thank goodness, but maybe a bit late there. There’s been several titles I didn’t know even came out until I heard about them somewhere else and then had to manually search for them on the vita store. Sony really showed how much they cared about the system. I should be getting Punch Line in the mail soon, which I also just found out that it came out and I’ve been a fan of Uchikoshi and Vita for a long time. First time I looked for digital I couldn’t find it, but I got a deal on the physical, so that works out.

Re: PS5 UK Restock Targeted by Scalpers Again, Group Claims More Than 2,000 Orders Made

Itsacardgame

Sony is content in this practice as they still get their money out of it. Same with the retailers. Extra same with the scalpers. We can only hurt it by not complying with the scalpers. We all want one, but in time, they’ll be able to be purchased in person/online without stock issues.

What I don’t get is where the heck are all these getting shipped to? Or charged to? Certainly there must be some names that show up multiple times.

It’s a pain in the butt to get concert tickets legitimately, why is there more trouble getting a mass produced item (console, graphics card, toys, etc)?

Re: PS4 Console Production Reduced to Just One Model in Japan

Itsacardgame

A couple of things. News on pricing? I feel this is their way of not price dropping at all. Remove the console that is the same price as the new one, “continue” to sell the old one at same lower price than the new one.

I say “continue” because, well, in my area, I haven’t seen a PS4 of any flavor since the beginning of the pandemic, or any Sony/Microsoft console. Plenty of PS5 controllers, though. What? Hahah. Was actually getting back into TV gaming since I finally got a place set up to do that and wanted to get a PS4 (still want the option to remote to Vita if possible), but I’ll not paying over $400 for a slim on the after market, prices have gotten stupid. It’s just insulting to suggest those prices.

I’ll join the fun some day, just not soon.

Re: Random: The 25-Year-Old PS1 Demo Disc Cheat You Never Knew About

Itsacardgame

I remember doing something stupid like this with the US PS1 demo disc vol 2 (I think. It had Demolition Derby on it) and swapping to Resident Evil when loading a demo. It would play cutscenes from Resident Evil if done correctly. It wasn’t meant to do that, but it did. Just reading data from a certain point or something.

Re: PS5's Small Performance Advantages Over Xbox Series X Prompt Microsoft Statement

Itsacardgame

If we’re talking multi-plat games, then the devs are trying to keep parity between versions as much as possible. So while we see a frame drop here or there or whatever the minor thing is, we shouldn’t be seeing leaps and bounds on one console unless there is a serious issue. Sony is going to have the advantage of faster loading and the Dual Sense controller here and their First and Third party exclusives will be just fine as they always have been, whereas Microsoft’s advantage will be in it’s First and Third party exclusives that can showcase it’s teraflop prowess.

Re: The New York Stock Exchange Celebrated the PS5 Launch, And It Was Weird

Itsacardgame

Like what the heck is going on with their marketing department? They have nothing to sell to the masses and they are marketing to day-scalpers. How do things PRE-sell out? Back in my day (before 5 years ago), pre-orders were used to judge how much of a product to make/order, and E3 was a sales trade show to inform the retailers what products they had coming down the pipeline. Everything is a clownshow now.
