Re: Review: SingStar Dance (PlayStation 3)

James

I wasn't all that thrilled with the singing - it's lacklustre compared to Lips for example - and the dancing motion detection isn't as good as it could be, but I'll be damned if it's not given me some of the biggest laughs I've had with any game ever. If you have no shame and don't mind getting up to dance this is fun: not perfect. not revolutionary, not out of this world, just a lot of fun. Give it a go!

Re: Out Today: Tuesday November 9th 2010 (North America)

James

Over here, if someone says a game is released on November 12th, you walk into a shop on November 12th and the game is there. We do use the term "street date" but it's interchangeable with release date.

So basically if you guys quote a release date, that's just the first potential day you might see it in shops and is no guarantee it'll actually be available on that day? That's a great system

Re: Review: The Shoot (PlayStation 3)

James

I was tempted to give this a 7 as it's a lot of fun whilst you're playing, but you're not likely to go back to it. I also can't believe there's no two-player career mode! And no gunslinger mode for solo players with two Moves either. I'd love a sequel though

Re: Review: John Daly's ProStroke Golf (PlayStation 3)

James

@Dazza It dropped £15 on day of release, it's already a budget title! I know Gamestation is doing it for £25 brand new, not bad at all.

@slapshot82 I didn't even touch DualShock controls with this so I can't comment on them, but I have to say the Move controls in John Daly's are better than those in Tiger. Just a shame the rest of the game isn't!

Re: PlayStation Move Makes Plenty of Kids' Christmas Lists

James

@mjc0961 Same goes for Kinect though, you need a 360 as well. And forget about using iPad or iPod Touch if you haven't got a computer!

I'd like to say "in my day" etc. etc. but truth be told I got a Mega Drive when I was 9 or 10 and that cost a packet.

Re: Review: NBA 2K11 (PlayStation 3)

James

Hey Robb J, thanks for the comment.

You're quite right - the Navigation is not compatible with NBA 2K11 at the moment, and I was playing with DualShock 3. I've corrected that error now, and I'm sorry if you felt misled.

As for the Move shooting controls, I think you're right in that they're introduced as a change of pace for players who wouldn't normally pick up a basketball game, but for my money they didn't offer the precision I'd expect from Move nor the range of control I got with a DualShock 3. That's just my thoughts on it though.

Again, thanks for the comment!

Re: American Move Launch Game Sales Look a Little Meagre

James

@psychobudgie Firstly, welcome to Movemodo! Hope you're enjoying your Move so far, let's hope Sony can entice you to pick up a game or two

@slapshot82 I see your point and what you say makes perfect sense: older games wouldn't be counted, and perhaps Move's launch has had the unexpected secondary effect of boosting the PS3's back catalogue.

Most of this is just extrapolation on the extremely limited (and potentially even inaccurate) sales figures gleaned from the 'net, but the real point I'm driving at here is this: Move didn't launch with enough good games that sold well.

Re: American Move Launch Game Sales Look a Little Meagre

James

@Token Girl I think most of them were simultaneously launches with Move, or like RUSE launched a little earlier.

Either way, people are willing to spend the money on a brand new controller but not to pick up any games designed just for it. If I were Sony, that would concern me!

Re: Review: NBA 2K11 (PlayStation 3)

James

Thanks for the comments, chaps. I think the Move controls were added late in development - the ShotStick and IsoMotion seem to be really well thought-through, whereas the Move control just... isn't.

Yesterday I convinced my colleagues at the game shop in which I work to run the game on one of our PS3s, and we all just stood there to watch it. Sign of a great game, particularly a sports game, is it's entertaining just to watch.

Re: Features: Move's First Month

James

And it's a very different experience with both pads too: the fights really bring you to the edge of your seat with Move, swinging away and really amplifying that "damn, I'm actually going to die" feeling for your character.

I think the next three months will be very interesting: it doesn't have a major release until LBP 2/Killzone 3, although The Fight looks interesting. We'll see how it fares against Kinect!

Re: NBA 2K11

James

I've been playing the game quite a bit (review coming in a few days) and can say this.

It's amazing. The Move controls, however, are not. Stay tuned for more!

Re: Review: Toy Story 3 (PlayStation 3)

James

I played this a lot on 360 and I have the Wii version as well now - I also really enjoyed the Toy Box mode, but I must admit I only played the first few levels of the Story mode. Not interested! Toy Box was ace though, well worth the cost of the game on its own.

Re: Shocking Truth: Kevin Butler Advert Proves Sony Hates Puppies

James

You're not the only one bboy but I fear you might be slightly missing the point. Kevin Butler's supposed to be arrogant and annoying; he's lampooning many gamers' opinions of Sony itself, showing the company is aware of its own reputation. I think the quality of the ads varies greatly but on the whole he's the best marketing campaign they've had in years.

Re: Out Today: NBA 2K11

James

I hear really good things about this. Like you, I haven't played an NBA game in probably ten years, but I'm looking forward to giving this one a go!
