I'm not a gambling man myself, but before everyone follows the social media knee-jerk outrage reaction and grabs their virtual pitchfork, let's just bear in mind that this is only going to have any relevance to you if you follow eSports.
And those that do most likely already have numerous ways they can bet on it.
If you're not one of those people, this is unlikely to have any effect on you whatsoever.
A friend has always spoken very highly of them, as he played them on 360. I've never been that into RPGs, and only played the third on PS3. Didn't rate it, and have no interest in playing the others.
Would like to see a modern setting again, and hopefully a reasonable SP campaign. As far as war-based FPS go though, I'm probably more interested in Six Days at this point in time.
Love the series... played them all multiple times, including Golden Abyss (though that's not ND-made). Platinumed them all, the first 3 on PS3 originally and then again on PS4 in the Collection. My favourite series of games in 40+ years of gaming.
@Amylian4Games @Robinsad I loved the first 4... I even originally bought a Gamecube specifically to play 4 when it released, then bought it again on PS3. But 5 just bored me, and I haven't bothered with the series since. It just sorta stopped appealing to me.
I get what you're saying, Sammy, and I agree with some of it. It could definitely be better in some areas.
But given that the store is providing so much of their revenue, does it not suggest that most people aren't having any/many problems using it and finding what they want?
The store showing you things you already own is irritating, but not unique to the PlayStation store. Search for something on Amazon, then make a purchase, and you'll still get an email a few days later showing you a selection of things matching that search and asking "were you looking for something in our ..... store?"
Meh. Made a Discord account a while back to see what all the fuss was about, and - in my personal opinion - it sucks. It's just a mess... a nightmare version of all the crappy mid-to-late 90s chat rooms combined.
Still got the account, but used it for maybe 10 minutes in total.
Further to my earlier comment... we had a similar situation with some PlayStation fans when Killzone 2 was released, especially with regard to the online side of things.
It had a slower, heavier, more realistic feel to it, where soldiers wearing lots of heavy kit moved at a realistic pace, instead of running around like headless chickens as if the gun was all they were carrying. And boy, did (some) people whine about it!
"It doesn't feel right!"
"It's too slow!"
And the one I read multiple times on the official PlayStation forums...
"Make it like Call of Duty!"
If you want something that plays like CoD, play CoD. Don't insist that everything else is a carbon copy. Some of us can't stand it, and welcome a different approach.
It's because it's not all shooty shooty pew pew, isn't it?
The gun combat is absolutely fine for what it's supposed to represent... these aren't trained military, they're normal people in a stressful, extraordinary situation - particularly in the case of Ellie, who's still a very young woman. If they were running around CoD-style and snapping out 360 no-scope's, it wouldn't really fit with the game, would it?
Seems (at least some of) the MS staff are like the CoD fanboys, where everything that doesn't "work like CoD" is somehow "wrong".
Used to love them, but haven't played one since A Crack in Time, which to be honest bored me.
At this moment in time, as pretty as it is, this isn't a must-play for me. I downloaded the PS4 're-imagining' (or whatever it was) of the original, but I've yet to play it. When I do, I'll see if it rekindles any of my past love for the games. If so, maybe I'll look at getting a PS5 before Forbidden West.
@huyi It's something I wasn't looking forward to. I had most of my stuff on a 1.5TB internal drive, and some on a 1TB external. When I got the new drive, I had to move all the stuff from the internal to the new external, and then move everything from the old external to the internal, and then from the internal to the new external.
It was a bit of a PITA, but I just resigned myself to moving a few at a time, leaving it running when I had other non-gaming stuff do. It's not ideal, but also... isn't that bad if you break it down into smaller chunks.
At least now everything is on the external, and when I do eventually get a PS5, it's just a question of unplugging from one and connecting to the other. Best done sooner rather than later, as your collection is only likely to get bigger!
@huyi The storage isn't a major issue for me. I'm sure the storage expansions will be quite pricey, but I currently have an 8TB external drive on my PS4 with about three quarters of that space available.
As I understand it, the drive will plug into a PS5 as is, allowing me to play any PS4 games from the drive, and also allowing me to shunt PS5 games to it for storage.
You'd think they'd catch as much flak for crap like this as the likes of Activision do for charging $2 for a red dot sight which was free in every previous game.
Still, no skin off my nose... was in the alpha for the first game, but never bothered buying either. If people want to waste time and/or money on this crap, that's their choice. It's just irritating because the more they're let off with this kind of rubbish, the more emboldened other devs are to pull the same crap.
I've said many times previously that I wished they'd offer a mix-n-match of movie rentals and games each month so that there's at least something of value for those who already have or simply don't want the games offered. So it would be hypocritical of me to say now that I wouldn't be happy with it.
But the whole idea seems like a strange move to me, given the fact that they're retiring the video service they already offered. It would surely have made more sense to keep the existing movie purchase/rental set-up, and just add a few 'free' rentals each month to the PS Plus service.
@get2sammyb Twitter... initially I didn't see the point of it, but signed up. And I really quite enjoyed it. Spoke to some good people with similar interests... it was all pretty friendly.
In the last (I'd say) 3-4 years, it has degenerated into a very polarised thing. Seems mostly filled with hate from people unwilling or unable to consider any point of view but their own.
I'm still using it, but much, much less than I did. No matter who you unfollow, the unsavoury stuff still seems to weasel its way in your feed from retweets or suggestions. When I use it on the web, I've even started to access it via tweetdeck.twitter.com so that I don't get Twitter's own recommendations, because even they are often filled with clickbait headlines and nauseating content.
FIFA is the last of my concerns about the whole situation.
Haven't been following the ESL story as I don't really bother with the news, but a friend told me about it a couple of days ago. I've no interest in it. From what that friend has told me, it'll start with 6 teams from England, 3 each from Spain and Italy? Hardly "European".
I think football needs to move back towards the fans, not further towards making the rich even more billions. And I say that as a fan of one of the proposed 'founding teams', Arsenal, who - given recent history - has no business being in it anyway.
I did pay full price. Pre-ordered. Love the game. Experienced just one bug. As I've said previously, it turned out to be my favourite game of the PS4 generation. I would pre-order a sequel without knowing any more about it.
All of that being said, I understand why some choose not to... so many (too many) games are quite obviously released with little or no testing these days, only being patched after release - so people are increasingly cautious. The (in my opinion) unnecessary price hike for PS5 games will do very little to help the situation.
While I'd like to think this will work (Days Gone is my favourite game of the PS4 generation, after all), I haven't signed it as it's unlikely to make the slightest bit of difference.
If it sells millions on PC, maybe that will change their mind.
Mind you, must be a real kick in the teeth for Bend, getting your plans for a sequel denied, and then being asked to remake the original for PC. You'd think if it's considered good enough to justify a port, it's good enough to justify a sequel.
I love Naughty Dog, I love Jak & Daxter, I love Uncharted, and I love The Last of Us.
I'd like to see another game from them in any of those series, but I'm not interested in Factions, and I'm not interested in another remake of the original Last of Us.
What's the betting that despite the usual social media pitchfork mobs crying about it, this never actually becomes an issue for anyone?
If it's a "firmware oversight", it will be corrected. If it's an intentional "security feature", it'll be disabled when the PS4 reaches the end of its useful life and gets its last firmware update.
Days Gone 2 would have been another strong reason for me to get a PS5. Currently, there's only Horizon Forbidden West which I'm really interested in. (Yes, I know it will be on PS4 too, but it would be a reason for me to get a PS5, just as the original was the reason I moved from a base PS4 to a Pro.)
As it is, I'm still more than happy to hold off on a PS5... and that's something that, a year ago, I would never have envisaged myself saying.
I can't be the only one who feels "online optics" are often given far more importance than they deserve - not just in this case, but generally speaking.
Sure, they matter to a few 'extreme' people and the loudmouthed, pitchfork mobs of Twitter, but sane people and most businesses just tend to ignore those.
Grew up with this pixel art style being the norm, and as much fun as I had back then, I just can't stomach it these days. That's why I bought a Vita... the promise of home console quality games on a portable device. And to think it started out so well...

Got it with my PS2 when it launched, but honestly, the novelty wore off pretty quick. 🤷♂️
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Have Its Own Controller Design Lab?
Really don't care about the colour of the controller, or the console... as long as it's not something hideous like turquoise, lime green, pink, etc.

Re: When Will PS5 Exclusives Drop in Price on PS Store?
Seems some people are finally waking up to the main reason why an all-digital future isn't necessarily a good thing.
I don't yet have a PS5, but even so, I have not considered buying the digital-only console for a single second.

Not interested. Was a big fan of the originals, but 5 was the last I bought, and I don't think I ever finished it.
Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Has Three Platinum Trophies on PS4, 130 Trophies in Total
Bought the 3rd on PS3, after hearing good things about it from a mate who played the series on 360.
Bored the arse off me, though... no interest in playing the others.

There'll need to be something I want to play before I bother.
If Horizon lands this year, I may bite. Other than that, I'm happy to wait. The unnecessary £70 price tag for games is also offputting.
