Re: Sony Appears to Officially Confirm It Won't Make Another Portable PlayStation

Ryu_Niiyama

To me, the vita is much like the wiiu. Both had great ideas which was console (console-esque for the vita) on the go (game pad, if you had no interference was wonderful for walking around the house) but they both had hardware hiccups AND lackluster support by 3rd parties for mainstream games.

I feel like Nintendo took the next step with Switch (and it was obvious when they started merging the os and shop eco system with the accounts and Iwata-denka's push to align the software and hardware teams that this is where they were going) but Sony decided it wasn't worth going back to the drawing board. I love the switch, it is just behind the WiiU as my favorite system (before you mock, if you look at the VC library, the WiiU exclusive library and the Wii library all playable on the WiiU it is an amazing system...it just was marketed horribly), however I would like to see Sony stay in the market. Oh well.

Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Will Play a Key Role in Transitioning PS4 Players to Next-Gen, Says Sony

Ryu_Niiyama

It is a good move by Sony. I was burned by the Pro 4 so have yet to get one. I was going to upgrade this year but the BC on the PS5 means I get my Pro and if any of the 5 games are appealing to me I don't need to buy yet another system. Considering I was planning on exiting from MS and Sony after the 4 and one were retired it was a nice hook. I don't know how many 5 games I'll get as I'm buying this solely as a P4Pro+ but at least the option is there.

Re: Ubisoft Is Making Changes to Controversial Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Ending

@Vorkosigan how so? Acknowledging that more than one subset of people are impacted and thus also in the mix of people saying something is relevant as I said to give perspective to those that were using this to go ”ohmygerd da gays”. That part was also a general observation and not part of my reply to you. As for why do people react, I can only say that it is because people view things differently and as consumers this is currently the only way they have to express displeasure until they can vote with their wallets. It isn’t like Ubisoft is giving out refunds. Also why care if others say something if you see no reason to? You have decided it is a non issue so why does it matter if someone else didn’t? If you don’t have a hat in the race why deny or express exasperation at those who do? Should people never criticize anything especially when they were led to believe one thing and given another? (Note I have not sent or posted anything to Ubisoft and aside from me rolling back my save and ignoring the mission in question I have not reacted either. I mean I have the season pass not much else I can do lol. )

Re: Ubisoft Is Making Changes to Controversial Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Ending

@ghostelmalo44 What you say when they get on the boat doesn't matter. You are still locked into the set ending. I just stopped reloaded a save and didn't complete that part of the DLC personally.

I know people that like to be angry will take this as "pandering to the gays(trademark pending)" but it negated everybody's choice actually. What if your Eagle Bearer was a loaner, what if you romanced somebody already, what if you dont like the set choice person? More people were impacted by this than homosexuals. Since Ubisoft were the ones that touted choice for this formerly linear game...they did this to themselves when they u-turned on that.

Re: Poll: Do Developers Betray Fans When Player Choice Suddenly Doesn't Matter in an RPG?

Ryu_Niiyama

The point of an RPG is to play and shape a character how you want. There is nothing wrong with linear narratives and AC was a linear series from the outset. Switching gears like this was bound to cause issues. They have to bend in a pretzel needlessly to make a game that isnt an RPG...feel like an RPG. Trying to jump on the mass effect/fallout 4 bandwagon wasn't needed, either tell the story you intended to tell or make player choice mean something. Straddling the fence weakens the narrative for everyone involved. Devs and players.

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

Ryu_Niiyama

@RogerRoger Oh I never said there was anything that would make it work in the sense of it being enjoyable/desirable. But at least if she was lit to her ears and thinking of someone else she could lay there and let Nakata do his business. She wouldn't enjoy it but she wouldn't beat the tar out of him at least. Goodness knows if I had to do that I'd have to fight vomiting the whole time.

But people do have arranged marriages and sex with unwanted partners (even when uncoerced) all the time in hetero land. So I am in no way implying or trying to imply that a lesbian would ever enjoy/seek/desire having any type of sexual or romantic relationship with a male, as that is kinda the point of female homosexuality. I absolute loathe the narrative that there is no such thing as a true female homosexual that seems to be cropping up in modern thought as of late as if the right guy or a male feels like a woman on the inside somehow negates physical reality. I'm just trying to make sense of the plot that Ubisoft is handing us.

I mean after all Kassandra herself is essentially a bioweapon (just because her mother loved her doesn't change why she was conceived) bred to balance the sides so I could see her taking a page out of her parents book for the overall chess game she is going to be playing over the next several centuries. I'm really hoping that it comes out that the Eagle Bearer is kind of a shadow puppet master for both sides, trying desperately to keep humans from self destructing as they blindly commit to "order" (templars) or "chaos" (assassins) after all we have had a lot of side switching in the series as is.

Also note I am a Lesbian (you know the actual female homosexual kind) and while I find the idea of Kassandra having to lay with a male for any reason abhorrent I know that the world doesn't often actually accommodate the wishes of homosexuals (despite what some non homosexuals like to scream about "pandering"). And unfortunately if Kassandra needed a child for whatever reason (bioweapon, personal desire, whatever Ubi is cooking up) then she would have to let a dude impregnate her. Which again is why I wish Ubi had put away the fake sense of choice and just wrote the character they wanted. Or if they had actually built the series to be about gamer choice in the first place. Changing genres halfway through the series was a terrible idea.

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

@Athrum actually Ubisoft abandonded the genetic ancestor requirement several games ago. Abstergo only needed that because at the time using a person with a low amount of Isu DNA and not related to the historical figure they were tracking drove animus users insane (that was the issue of the Bleeding effect). As they gained access to more apples of eden and understood the Isu tech more they didn’t have to deal with that. Not to mention the improvements and jury rigging the assassins made. That’s why you could play each of the frye twins. When before the animus tracking followed the ancestor you were directly decended from.

When Altair sired his son that desmond was decended from the animus could no longer track him. That is why revelations had to use a different method (Altair figured out how to record his own genetic memory). That’s also why Ubisoft/abstergo in the game made an animus game console and marketed genetic memories as videogames (that were edited from the historical accuracy of the genetic memory for propaganda purposes). That’s also what breaks the character choice in AC Odyessy as well as even with “corrupted” dna there should have been no way to alter the story.

Kassandra and alexios lived very different lives the animus technically by lore should not have been able to toss ones face and life onto the other. Since Kassandra is canon it should not have been possible to play Alexios as the eagle bearer. Ubisoft breaks their own lore to sell gameplay mechanics and then breaks that again to reinstate lore by forcing a child. It’s silly.

Layla isn’t even related to the assassins of orgins or odyessy. Her portable animus bypasses all the old rules. She just needs some dna. No matter how small (hence the explanation for turning AC into a RPG like). Also given the eagle bearer’s role in history she doesn’t have to have children. Being ageless helps with that. Now one could say that she wanted a backup plan like her parents did in creating her, and that technically doesn’t negate sexuality narrative in game as a woman can get pregnant even when physically repulsed(sadly happens all the time). If Ubi says that it will be trite but won’t negate player choice entirely.

Folks are asking for consistency.

Like I said fun game. Terrible AC game.

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

Ryu_Niiyama

@FullbringIchigo Well they did nod to PoP kinda hard imo with the new armor and weapon set.

I would love to see a re-imagining of Sands of time with a palace that was about 4 or 5 times larger than the original... for reasons....and sand of course.

At this point I'll settle for the parkour getting fixed. It lost its sweet spot about 3-4 games ago. I feel like Kassandra has cement blocks for feet sometimes...

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

Ryu_Niiyama

@FullbringIchigo Yeah don't get me started on the lore hand waving at this point. I have a simple request. If you set rules and history in your game world...abide by them. That's it. I won't question why you can move things with your mind or dive 10 stories into a bale of hay and be fine or fly...I just need consistency. I only bought Odyssey because I love Greek mythology and history. But it is fine. I know Ubi has to make their coins... I don't begrudge them that but at this point short of a Japan setting I'll be over here waiting for a Prince of Persia reboot...again.

I like the idea of Layla (a person who is walking both sides and will hopefully see that both are wrong) and hilariously enough for me the lack of a strong developed narrative for the Eagle Bearer made Layla a much more stand out character for me. But at the same time since Ubisoft is trying to shove the backbone of the AC series under a rug they don't give us much to work with.

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

Ryu_Niiyama

@FullbringIchigo That was what I was alluding to when I mentioned why the Eagle Bearer herself was born. I didn't feel like using spoiler tags. Either way for a Lesbian, a very large amount of alcohol is going to be required, and memories of a previous lover to carry her through.

It still negates player choice of course, but I'm trying to make it fit so its less annoying (and insulting). That's also why I preferred AC to remain a linear game but I'm the minority who also is interested in the meta storyline of the modern day and the Isu so I know that AC hasn't been made with me in mind for a very long time. This will be my last one anyway. As I said the game is fun but not a good AC game and my gripes preclude me buying another one at this point. I can youtube most of the player choices anyway, lol.

Re: Ubisoft Faces Fan Backlash as Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC Totally Ignores Player Choice

Ryu_Niiyama

My Lesbian Kassandra is not ok with this. But I knew something like this would happen. You can't take a linear character driven narrative and turn it into a open player driven one without some in-congruent parts. I did kind of figure that given the reason that the Eagle Bearer was born would have lent to her employing similar tactics to begin to restore balance between the two factions (even if she didn't care for how the tactics were employed). (So potentially this could be an interesting choice for the overall plot, or just right hand not knowing what left hand is doing. I'll see how it plays out.)

I'm going to head canon that my Kassandra got really, really, REALLY drunk, pretended it was Daphnae and went on with her mission.

I still say that AC Odyessy is a fun game but a terrible AC game. They should have just created another series, the RPG elements really don't fit the framework of the AC series.

Re: Spider-Man PS4 Dev Pushes Back Against Fan Criticisms Regarding DLC

Ryu_Niiyama

That was a good response. It wasn't overly fluffy of course but it was a direct answer to the accusation. Some gamers act like devs can just snap their fingers and indulge a gamer's every whim. We have no idea the licensing red tape over the suit/movies and there are plenty more comic costumes to choose from. Let it go. This is why we can't have nice things.

Re: Fallout 76 Influencers Got the Canvas Bag Absent from the Collector's Edition

Ryu_Niiyama

That kinda isn't unheard of. I mean it is bad that they didn't ship what they said they would, but commerce is built upon the cult of celebrity. Give celeb a free product even if they have the cash to afford it because people will go out and buy that product to feel like said celeb. I don't like to call people sheep or anything like that...but we are social animals.
