Re: Open World Martial Arts RPG Where Winds Meet Announced for PS5

Ryu_Niiyama

That Erhu is rocking out. Anyway it looks good but since I have not heard of this studio i will wait on reviews (and possibly an xbox announcement. I can play the PS5 but the symmetrical layout makes games like this hard to play. ) but I am hopeful. Doesn’t feel like a soulslike to me but I may need more info.

Re: Key Sony Exec Gives Eye-Opening Quotes on the Future of PlayStation and Gaming

Ryu_Niiyama

That sounds interesting to me but the gaming community doesn’t like change. So many or the same stories are told over and over. Any attempt to change or update stories or characters and it’s deemed to be pandering, woke or “censorship “. So I expect there to be both a lot of “backlash” and potential for more mainstream avenues such as mobile gaming and tv/movie/animation media. Sorta like comics. Comics have come a long way in storytelling but they use other media to placate the masses.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Reveal Trailer Is Already the Most Disliked in Series History

Ryu_Niiyama

Oh no gamers are angry about something especially if it doesn’t look like them. Anyway.

Ubisoft is only gonna care about sales. BOTW divided the Zelda fanbase…it also is one of their most lauded games and best sellers. Not saying this will be as good as BOTW but a bunch of angry gamers is meaningless. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. People that like it will buy anyway.

That’s why Ubisoft always had that disclaimer at the beginning of AC.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Pre-Orders Already 'Looking Very Strong'

Ryu_Niiyama

Already preordered the CE. 3hundo for fundo.

I love the statue that comes with the CE and the wall scroll and don’t wanna pay triple price to scalpers later so preordering makes sense. Also I am very excited for the game. The trailer looks better than I had been hoping for. Plus it feels like it is getting back to actual assassins instead of rando chosen one stumbles into assassin work.

It is hilarious watching others get mad at how people spend their money though.

Re: A Lot of PS4 Owners Have Yet to Upgrade to PS5

Ryu_Niiyama

I kinda don’t blame PS4 users. I sat on mine for a year and a half into the PS5 launch and I still only have a few PS5 exclusive games (even less now that some have gone to xbox). I mostly use mine as a bluray player and to play PS4 games. I am a little worried as my ROI so far isn’t in my favor. But that just means this is my last PS system. Sony seems to be all in on PC so I think that’s where I am headed in the future. All in all gaming feels like it is slowing down on the AAA front. There are good games, great games even, but they take too long to come out. It’s more financially sound to wait 3-4 years into a console’s life before upgrading. Especially if you are a multisystem owner.

I don’t think sony will see an impact until PS6. As some folks will opt for a PS5 at that point or opt out to PC (like me). I do think the switch successor will have an impact as well. It wont match the PS5 (Or the PS4) in graphics probably but if more japanese games (that don’t go to xbox) go to it then that leaves Sony with exclusives as the main draw. And those aren’t coming out fast enough imo.

Re: Vengeful Fallout 76 Players Keep Nuking Xbox Boss Phil Spencer's Camp

Ryu_Niiyama

This is petty and childish. Won’t impact his day although he may pull back and become more distant PR wise with the public. Then those same gamers will complain that he sounds like all the other execs. Frankly these people don’t know why the closures happened. And looking for someone to burn in effigy isn’t gonna restore a single job or fund dev work. Grow up. It’s all virtue signaling anyway. When Volition shut down, folks weren’t sad they lost their jobs. It’s only the people that do the stuff they like.

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

Ryu_Niiyama

Well that matches much better honestly. Folks were mad that they were told up front they would need a PSN account eventually since they could buy the game in places that didn’t have PSN accounts. So now the sale of the game matches the PSN requirement and people got their money back. Problem solved as it is doubtful that the PSN requirement will be walked back. (Edit: guess I was wrong about this part but that is surprising) Honestly this sounds like Valve might have opened the game to the wrong regions from the start and Sony didn’t notice until the complaints rolled in. Sucks but is fixable by giving people their money back, which they are doing.

Re: 'Americana Naivete' Essential to Fallout, Series Will Remain in US

Ryu_Niiyama

Fallout riffs on a specific aspect of Americana so yeah a Fallout set somewhere else wouldn’t work and would just tick off whatever the new locale is anyway. Because folks would complain that Bethesda doesn’t get their culture and would miss the satire narrative. If you want a local game, make one. Post apocalyptic stories aren’t unique and I am sure a team somewhere else could make a new IP that represents their culture. Could even go back to the isometric roots at this point.

Re: Future Dragon's Dogma 2 Update Will Nerf Its Coolest Mechanic

Ryu_Niiyama

@Nightcrawler71 any pawn can get it. The rate supposedly goes up if you fight dragons or your pawn gets controlled by one. That being said you can sleep at camps and pass it to another pawn in your party or of course dismiss the infected pawn. The progression is super obvious (they get arrogant and combative, sit down during idle and bicker with the party, they ignore commands and eventually their eyes glow red) but if you make it to the post dragon aspect of the game it is scripted that all pawns get it to push the urgency of the end game. But honestly if you play well you don’t need to sleep much during that time so there is usually no impact. It’s really there to keep you invested/paying attention and to keep folks from camping on pawns (granted I never got to the point where the infection was dangerous). Personally i think there should be more consequences but that’s just me.

Re: TV Show Review: Fallout - RPG Series Marks Another TV Triumph

Ryu_Niiyama

@MikeOrator I think his disgruntlement is valid. Sometimes a franchise swerves really hard or just loses that magic that might have hooked a person initially. That gets unfairly chalked up to nostalgia sometimes when that isn’t always the case (I do think angry pokemon “fans” just out grew the series and won’t move on so I am not dismissing a person making more fuss than it’s worth.) And the fallout series had a huge upheaval not just from the tech but the writing and the scope. And when that happens a lot of the foundation of the original series is lost. (Kinda like song sampling through generations.) So a person that played the first two games especially if done during the original release when they were doing something fairly novel at the time, will make it harder to stomach all those changes or ignore recency bias. As long as one doesn’t run around raining on everyone else that enjoys what the series has become, then yeah those feelings…that grief is valid.

Re: TV Show Review: Fallout - RPG Series Marks Another TV Triumph

@Terra_Custodes Ouch, well sometimes them’s the breaks. Sucks when a franchise goes into a direction you can’t enjoy. But I think it happens to everyone at some point. Mass Effect and Dragon Age’s sequels were that for me. (Actually at this point I am grateful Bioware never made a sequel to Jade Empire) So I get it. Hope you find a new franchise to love.
