Re: Sony Removes Ability to Redeem Codes Due to Struggling PSN

drumsandperc92

man, i literally just bought a 1 year subscription for PSN+ on amazon last night (they had it on sale for $30!) and it's just a digital code. haven't tried inputting it yet, and i've still got two weeks left of free PSN+ trial that came with the system, but I REALLY hope the get it back up and running so i didn't waste my money...

Re: Sony Gives Thanks with Meaty North American PS Plus Update

drumsandperc92

definitely disappointed by lack of PS4 PSN+ giveaways, but its understandable. They aren't going to give away any big AAA titles just yet, especially when the system came out half way through november. They could give away Knack, but i don't see that happening soon. They'll likely giveaway indie titles for the first few months or so, since everything else is so new.

Re: Talking Point: Is the PS4's Controller Pushing Your Buttons?

drumsandperc92

i've always preferred the 360 controller to DS3. Up until now the 360 controller was my favorite of all time. But DS4 mops the floor with it. This is the best controller i've ever held or used. Buttons are perfectly clicky, super responsive, tight controller sticks (that revamped concave grip is perfect too) the triggers are miles ahead and your fingers rest on them better than other controllers since they are wide, and overall it's the most ergonomic and comfortable controller to hold. Now feels MUCH better in my hands than anything else before it.
Admittedly i haven't tried the Xbone controller yet, but it looks clunkier and more angular than the DS4 and i can't imagine that being a good thing.

My only complaint is the limited function of the touchpad. I like Injustice's use of it in the mini games, that's fun. I also like how easy it is to get to the map by way of clicking the pad in AC4. However, i always find myself using the sticks to navigate the map because using the pad as a track pad a la a laptop or something just really isn't very responsive at all. Idk if it's the hardware or the software. I'd really like to see it serve as a trackpad for things like maps in future games or even for the web browser app.
Also i don't have a camera so the light bar is utterly useless but is a beautiful aesthetic touch that i am glad they included.

Re: Review: Knack (PlayStation 4)

drumsandperc92

good review. i figured it'd be around a 7 or 8. i was secretly hoping it would be in incredible game, but just didn't have the actual expectation.
this will surely be coming to PSN+ as a freebie sooner rather than later, that's when i'll give it a go!

Re: You May Be Sharing the Animus in Future Assassin's Creed Titles

drumsandperc92

AC4 was what AC3 should have been (lush environments, mix between nature & cities, the ship stuff, the action, badass assassin, etc.)
So far it's a huge leap (i'm maybe 25% through the game), my 3rd favorite AC behind AC2 & Brotherhood, and right now on track to beat out brotherhood for second.
My biggest & virtually only gripe? The combat!
Thank god it's better than 3, even though it's using what 3 started.
The combat in AC1, 2, brotherhood & revelations was for me one of the best combat systems. Lock-on targeting with parrying, blocking, countering, disarming, and stringing kills were all excellent mechanics, albeit if the A.I. was fairly dumb.
AC3 threw it all out the window in favor of timed button presses, much to my disdain. And AC4, to my surprise and further disappointment, got rid of lock-on targeting and blocking all together!! That being said, compared to AC3, Black Flag's combat feels much better, and is presenting slightly more of a challenge to master. A.I. is smarter too, at least a little. But i miss the days of just being able to block, not having to counter everything. Guess it serves to speed up the fights, but i wish we still had lock-ons and block. Often in AC4 i am just pressing the two buttons when i need to and cutting through the enemies like butter.
AC5 needs to go back and redo the combat again, taking a tip from the animations and fluidity of 3 & 4 and returning to the mechanics of the Ezio trilogy, and implement significantly more challenging A.I., or at least a hard mode!

Re: Your 500GB PS4 Is Essentially a 400GB PS4

drumsandperc92

i was so stoked to hear the ps4 was launching with a 500gb hdd, i mean the last console i bought was the original X360 w/ a 20gb hdd!
but then i read about the fact that every game, regardless if u have the physical disc, needs to install the entire thing on the hdd....
and now i read that we are losing another 100gb to firmware or whatever.
it looks like nearly every PS4 user will have to update the hdd.
thing is, we're not all techies so i hope it's easy enough, but one of the most useful things about consoles is to be able to buy the box and not have to tinker with it!
it's REALLY disappointing that PS4 doesn't allow external hdd. they could do it too, with USB 3.0. idk about it, but i would guess that USB 3.0 hdd read times would still be faster than the bluray read times from disc?

Re: How Does the PS4 Deal with Those Massive Mandatory Installs?

drumsandperc92

damn. with all the incredible PSN titles (which are getting bigger and bigger) and even a game as simple as Knack requiring a 37gb install, that 500GB is not going to last past a handful of titles.
It won't be long until i have to upgrade the HDD. it's REALLY too bad that sony isn't supporting external drives as a 2TB external is cheap enough and u just plug it in.
Sure, you could go in and manually delete a game every time you want to play a different game and then reinstall a game every time you play it, but what a hassle.
This is the most disappointing news i've heard about the PS4 :/

Re: Knack Proves That a Problem Shared Is a Problem Halved

drumsandperc92

@ztpayne7 i'm with you, very tempted by knack it looks like a blast and it would make a great second game to pick up at launch. but given that cerny is behind it, and that they are pushing it a lot as one of it's big 1st party titles, i imagine it will be one of the first full retail games on PS+. i might just wait on it.

Re: Ubisoft Sticks a Hidden Blade in Hopes for a Modern Assassin

drumsandperc92

no, i'd rather them go further back in time. honestly they've gone as far present as they could with Connor, MAYBE they could make an 1800s setting work, a la europe during the industrial revolution. That's about it. Much more present than that and then you have what they mentioned in this article; vehicles, sprawling metropolises with skyscrapers, too many accurate ranged weapons, etc.
I'd rather see a return to a time even before the renaissance where they eliminate the entire gun mechanic. The crossbow was about as far as i would've liked to see ranged weapons go, the addition of the gun in AC3 was handled well though. But i'd rather go back to ACII w/o any ranged weapons (i know he had the hidden pistol but it was like a one shot deal and you couldn't be that far)
I'd LOVE to see ancient Egypt, feudal japan, ancient greece, persia, etc. any of those locations.
Or a South American native american - mayans, incas, aztecs, any of those civilizations. They could do a lot more w/ 'those who came before' if they go further back...

Re: What Are the Main Differences Between Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4 and PS3?

drumsandperc92

not impressed. the ps4 version looks good, but nothing special. Honestly BF4 looks better on the PS4 then ghosts, it looks a lot more like a next gen game.
But KZ has both of those titles beat graphically hands down.
KZ is our first glimpse at what a true next gen FPS will look like, both BF and especially ghosts are being held back by the current gen.
doesn't matter to me though, i'm so sick of COD. I may give BF4 a try on ps4, but i'm more looking forward to KZ.

Re: Want to Play PSone Games on PS4? Sorry, You're Gonna Need Your Old Consoles

drumsandperc92

doesn't bother me, i only have a handful of ps1 games from back in the day and i never owned a ps2 or ps3 so i own none of them.
i hope that gaikai is subscription based, and gives you unlimited access to the entire library. for example, maybe $5 for access to ps1 and ps2 games, $10 for access to ps1, ps2, and ps3 games, or something like that. there are a lot of gems i missed out on from Sony systems over the years.
subscription would be best for me, so i can play all the games i missed!
if they run the service the way OnLive ran, where you paid per game, there's no way i'd be able to afford all of those classics and it would put me off from the service entirely.
But as a side note, PCs can emulate ps1 and ps2 games, and if its powerful enough, ps3 games. i don't see why the very powerful ps4 with PC architecture couldn't emulate them as well, especially if the emulators were designed by sony themselves.
i'm with the article where it says this is likely a ploy to get people to buy into giakai. like i said, i just hope it's a reasonably priced subscription model.

Re: DC Universe Online Getting a Heroic Update Ahead of the PS4 Launch

drumsandperc92

what i got out of this article is that DCU on PS4 has been delayed!!
ANOTHER delay! What gives???
I really wish developers would stop giving launch dates that everyone looks forward to, only to disappoint people!
This was going to be a Day 1 download for me. I don't have a PC or PS3, so i haven't played DCU yet but i've really wanted to!
First Watch_Dogs, which was my preorder bundle game, then DriveClub, now DCU? God damn it...

Re: Killzone: Shadow Fall's Texture Quality Has Quadrupled Since February

drumsandperc92

hm, you know what, it's decided. i'm going to give this game a shot.
This past gen REALLY wore me out on shooters, i havent played one in literally years. But this looks fantastic! love the sci-fi settings, this is turning out to be Sony's Halo (which, ironically, i never got into on my xbox and my 360)
See my only issue is that i'm sure a big title that Sony is pushing like this will end up on PSN+ as a giveaway eventually, and since i'd only giving it a try not knowing if i'll actually like it, i'm not sure i want to pay for it lol.
That's how i feel about Knack too. i've got a feeling Knack might get on the PSN+ giveaway list sooner rather than later, but KZ might take a while...

Re: DriveClub Parks Up in Early 2014, Contrast Joins Instant Game Collection

drumsandperc92

was def looking forward to driveclub, and i'm not interested in Contrast, honestly. but i'll be new to PSN on PS4 (last Sony system was PS1) and so ive already decided to at least download and try every free giveaway...i mean, why not, right?
how long do you guys think Sony will go before Knack becomes a free PSN title?
I was keeping my fingers crossed that Knack would become the giveaway after Driveclub, but i suppose it doesn't make much sense when they are pushing the game as a major launch title and new IP. driveclub's model of 'limited' free but pay to unlock the entire game would've worked for that game but i don't see how it would work with Knack.
Ah well.

Re: Talking Point: How Have This Week's Delays Affected Your Anticipation for PS4?

drumsandperc92

honestly I'm all for games being given more time.
here's my opinion on the matter, i think that developers may have underestimated how long the development process would be for these next gen games. think about these huge open worlds, super detailed textures and maps and animations, it's more work. There have been so many articles about AAA games being more and more expensive to make now.
I do think it's unacceptable for one of Sony's own studios to delay. Ubi is one thing - that's their own problem. But one of Sony's? They really should have been on top of things better.
I was planning on downloading DriveClub day one, i was very excited for it.
And I had the Watch_Dogs PS4 preorder from Amazon.
So you can imagine i'm fairly disappointed by all of this.
That being said there are still a couple of games I plan on getting right off the bat, I have AC4 preordered as well and I'm really looking forward to that.
This doesn't by any means ruin the launch for me, but it does suck. I'm actually more disappointed by DriveClub than Watch_Dogs.
Sony has been pushing Knack like crazy too, I think they are giving it away in Japan?
I would MUCH have rather had Knack as the PS+ download at launch than the indie game mentioned to replace DriveClub.
Or at least a big discount on Knack.

Re: NBA 2K14 on PS4 Will Make You a Basketball Fan

drumsandperc92

honestly i thought NBA Live 14 impressed me more graphically from the teaser shown at E3, but the most recent teaser of Live vs this trailer for 2k definitely puts 2k at the top. EA was flaunting their next gen sports engine, and the E3 stuff definitely looked like a leap ahead, but they've failed to live up to the hype. i'm really curious to see if the NBA Live revival puts up a good fight both graphically and of course gameplay wise.

Re: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Director Sphinx Ancient Egypt Would Make a Great Setting

drumsandperc92

i've been wanting an Egypt setting since AC2. Italy was a wonderful change of pace from Jerusalem/Damascus etc in AC1, but Egypt would on the next gen systems would be more like AC1 but still different enough.
Especially if they picked a period of ancient egyptian history rich with stories of Pharaohs that were in communication with "gods" .... easily explained by "those who came before".
Could make for some wonderful stuff, although the climbing aspect might be lost to some degree in Egypt. I don't know that they had tall/dense enough cities, but i'm sure Ubi could make it work.

Re: Hands On: PS4 Launch Title Knack Is Gradually Gathering Steam

drumsandperc92

very interested in knack, love 3D platformers and Sony platforms has always been the only one to give Nintendo even the slightest run for their money. Crash and Spyro were some of my favorite games on PS1 back in the day, and I haven't owned a Sony system since.
Looking forward to my day 1 PS4, and depending on the price of Knack I might get it.
Btw, does anyone know if digital versions of games will be any cheaper than disc versions?
If Knack is $60 even as a download, I'll probably wait till a price drop or pick it up when it eventually is a giveaway on PSN+

Re: Rumour: Grand Theft Auto Online May Actually Support 32 Players

drumsandperc92

given how much time and effort rockstar has put into the game i can't imagine it won't be on next gen/pc.
The more consoles it can release, the more opportunity for sales.
Furthermore, this generation is coming to a close. Surely the 360/ps3 will be active for at least another year or two, and yes there are 10s of millions of systems owned for this gen so it was brilliant for rockstar to put it on current platforms.
But given the effort going into GTA online, with Rockstar's plan for this to be a long lasting and active part of the game, I can only imagine that putting it on next gen will extend it's life significantly.
I know i'm holding out on GTAV for a ps4 version, because i know once i get my ps4 my 360 will collect dust. and i'm done with XBL, i'm saving to get PSN+ for ps4, so i couldn't even play GTA online now if i got the game.
IF rockstar releases on next gen systems, the game could see life for another 5 or 6 years, not to mention DLC and GTA online keeping the game very active, giving Rockstar ample time to craft GTAVI.
If not, the game may die down significantly before Rockstar has time to get another one in the wild.
Oh, and if released on PS4/X1/PC, 32 players on GTA online will definitely happen.

Re: Talking Point: Are You in Tune with Sony's Multifunctional PS Vita TV?

drumsandperc92

Hmm color me a bit confused.
The purpose of remote play was at first explained as off TV play, similarly to Wii U, so others can watch the TV your PS4 is hooked up to. The other was the streaming so you can take your PS4 on the go essentially.
Both of those sound like actually pretty cool ideas...you get access to the entire vita library, on the go of course, plus the ps4, on the go.
But the Vita TV is a grand idea for just the opposite-vita owners who don't really take it to go or who want to play on the big screen while at home, essentially turning the vita into a home console.
that sounds fine, and in fact, would be more appealing to me, who hasnt owned a portable since the GBA simply bc i would only ever play at home and would rather not look at a small screen.
But what i've found is that the vita library consists of vita versions of many console games anyway...a vita assassins creed, a vita uncharted, etc. is all that really necessary or should i just stick with the ps4 then for a true home console experience? or ps3, even? because how do vita games look on the big screen? probably not as good as on the little screen, and definitely not as good as even ps3....
and if both the vita tv are hooked up and the ps4 are hooked up to the same tv (i have only one) the rly there would be no point whatsoever.
so im in a pickle...i was thinking of picking up a vita eventually for remote play, but now i could have the vita tv so i could play vita on the tv....if only Sony launched the new, less expensive Vita with an HDMI port, turning it into the Vita TV!!!!!

Re: Grand Theft Auto V Has Already Extracted $1 Billion from Consumers' Wallets

drumsandperc92

Happy to hear this for Rockstar, they deserve it.
I want so badly to play GTAV now, but I don't want it for my old, runs-hotter-than-hell, 20gb hdd, component-cabled xbox 360.
I want it for my shiny new PS4 when i get it November 15th!!
I'm holding out for GTAV in hopes it comes to the next gen...
Hopefully with these sales numbers, Rockstar will feel like they can spare any time/money to port it over, and (hopefully sooner) by the end of next year (holiday 2014) they release a GOTY version of GTAV on PS4!
That would be something...

Re: Rumour: Grand Theft Auto V Caught On PS4

drumsandperc92

i've been saying it all along.
they will eventually release on PC, and when they do, we can also expect a PS4/X1 version. Personally, I don't think my original X360 with it's 20gb HDD and the threat of RRoD can handle GTAV. I'm worried about over heating and sluggish performance. I'm holding out for GTAV on PS4 which i have preordered.

Re: Assassin's Creed Liberation HD Is Stalking Towards The PS3

drumsandperc92

PS3? why not PS4 as well?
Especially given that the DS4 has a touch pad so those removed features could be added back in...
Also, if they are going to go to the trouble of making it prettier (up res, better textures/ligthing/animations/etc why not do it the best they can and release on PS4?
I'd download this if it was on PSN on PS4.
Also, I don't own PS3 or vita but i have a PS4 preordered, that's why i really want it on there haha

Re: You'll Only Need Four DualShock 4 Controllers for Your PS4

drumsandperc92

a useless feature for the One.
Unfortunately this past gen has seen a drastic decrease in the number of games that had local MP anyway. AAA Titles that you'd think would have local MP (Need for Speed comes to mind, as well as many others) only supported online multiplayer.
It's as if split screen was a thing of the past!
I feel like indie games are the titles we'll see making the most use of local multiplayer going forward, but I do sincerely hope the PS4/Xone sees a reprise in Split screen and local multiplayer, as much as they might be pushing online.
But so far it doesn't look very good. Killzone and Driveclub don't offer local MP and those are two of the biggest launch titles for PS4...
Anyway, i haven't ordered a second DS4 yet. Hopefully i'll have a reason too sooner rather than later, and I wouldn't be opposed to owning 4 if games supported it! (ehm LittleBigPlanet 3?)
Nintendo has been the only company to truly push for local multiplayer consistently all these years. Bring it back, Sony!

Re: Gaikai Streaming Is Totally Coming to PS3 and Vita, Too

drumsandperc92

awesome. i hope they adapt an affordable pricing model. i'd like it to be a PS+ only service, to help offset some cost, and then have games be significantly less than the full retail price, seeing as you don't actually own the game, nothing is even being downloaded to your hard drive.
If it is affordable i can't wait for it.
This past gen I owned a 360, not a PS3, so I know I missed out on a number of gems which I'm hoping to get to play thru Gaikai!!

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5 Takes the Sandbox Online on 1st October

drumsandperc92

im just dying to play this on PS4.
have a 360, but an old one, with a 20gb harddrive. with the mandatory install and how hard it's gonna push the system, plus the fact that i havent had XBL Gold in over 2 years but plan on getting PSN+ on PS4, this game sounds like it's meant to be on the next gen!
If Rockstar does a PC port it only makes sense to do a PS4/Xbone port too, i really hope they do!!! i'm holding out on GTAV for now.

Re: Talking Point: How Will the PS4 Controller's Touchpad Be Used?

drumsandperc92

i'm happy they included it.
microsoft has kinect's swipe and motion gestures & is pushing surface interactions, and Nintendo has their tablet, so a game that utilizes the tablet could utilize PS4's touch pad much in the same vein, even without a separate screen. Including it ensures that if the developers want to take time to utilize it on a multiplatform title across the board, then Sony won't be left out of the picture.
Also, it doesn't seem to inflate the price of the controller, so why not include it? I bet you the price would've been the same $60 even without it, just look at Microsoft's Xbone pad.
I think browsing through inventory on the touch pad, using it to navigate, and using it in indie games is going to be just fantastic. i'm very happy with it.
we won't see anything revolutionary with it, but touch screens are commonplace now, so it'll feel right at home underneath everyone's fingers even if it's just for the most basic functions.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a $500 PS4 and Vita Bundle?

drumsandperc92

a great premise here. really wonderful idea...i haven't owned a handheld since the GBA a decade ago, and to be blunt the Vita doesn't interest me much on it's own.
But if they were bundling with PS4 for only an extra $100? Yeah, why not!
Remote play is great but I live with one roommate so i wouldn't use it often at all, though it would be nice to have.
And if any gems come out on the Vita I could always grab those too.
That being said I already preordered my PS4 so i'm cool.
If i really feel it necessary I'm sure I could find a used Vita somewhere for $100, if not now maybe in a year or two.
