Re: UK Sales Charts: Gran Turismo Sport Triples Forza 7's Launch

hardrockr79

I am really enjoying GT Sport. The online aspect is spot on; something that always bothered me about Driveclub was the constant bumper car action and it was always a crap shoot who you got paired with. So far I have taken a few wins and many close close races indicating to me that the matching system is working well.

I also like the qualifying aspect and being placed respectively to your qualifying time. Getting out in front from the start makes a huge difference and incentive to pole. I like the reward system for Fast Laps and everythzing else the game rewards. Having a ton of fun, not a huge online gamer but this makes it as fair as possible.

I have only been dropped from server once during a race. I do not like the fact that if the server dumps you there is no local save option, very irritating at least!

Re: Ubisoft to Release Fewer Games as Focus Shifts to Long-Term Support

hardrockr79

This is disappointing, IMO. I have RS Siege and The Division, and honestly I get burned out rather quickly on titles like these. In most cases, adding additional maps, weapons, and skins is not enough to get me reenergized about a game; not to mention it's the price of another AAA game for these things.

I think it kind of depends on the title too. There are many games I have traded and then wished I had held on to for the DLC, some games I have ended up buying again, that's why I only buy digital now. Rainbow Six is very repetitive IMO, new operators and maps will never change that, and The Division isnt far behind it. I stopped playing the AC games after AC 3 as I got bored with more of exactly the same. While this model looks good on some games, I don't think Ubisoft has the titles or content to keep me interested like other Devs.

Re: PS4 Pro Is a 'Half-Assed Upgrade' Compared to Scorpio, Says Xbox Dev

hardrockr79

I bought the PS4 Pro fully knowing what it is/was. I don't feel we have fully seen what the Pro will do yet. Developers have a keen sense for getting every morsel of power out of a system, and so far my games have only been patched with a Pro update rather than being fully optimized during the entire build of a game.

I got what I paid for, and even though there is nothing I can do about my PSVR max screen resolution, it runs that system smoother as well. Hell, even the 1TB hard drive made me feel like I had many new games because I can fit 2x as many on it. Yes, I realize I could have upgraded my PS4 launch, but it's still a nice stock option.

If Scorpio is the powerhouse MS claims, I think it'll sale well. I had no issue upgrading to the Pro being a Sony fan and hearing that the graphics are better and system is faster. Unfortunately for MS, I have too much money invested in Sony to ever make a platform change.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Really Curate the PlayStation Store More?

hardrockr79

I certainly hope not. If people are buying games that they haven't researched enough or isn't up to their par, they should take responsibility for it. I am not saying everything on the store is to my liking or is even quality, but please leave that for us to decide.

I have played plenty of disappointing AAA games and I was out much more $$ than taking a small chance on an indie. Judging by what we get with PS+ every month, in the 3 years since I've been downloading these games, I have only played a couple of them past the first couple levels. Most of the indie games aren't for me, but I don't want to ruin it for the people who do enjoy them.

Also, something that has contributed to this mentallity is how hyped games are these days. It seems with every new experience becomes a new expectation. I don't know about you guys, but I don't expect every game I play to be the very best game I've ever played.

Re: Video: Sony Must Not Allow PlayStation VR to Wilt

hardrockr79

I really hope PSVR doesn't fade out. I invested in the PSVR in Nov in the US, bought a PS4 Pro a couple weeks ago for better PSVR experience, and other than The Heist and Driveclub VR (terrible graphics but I enjoy the game play) I am still waiting.

I am excited about Ark Park, Far Point, and a couple others, and admit I haven't tried a lot of the games available, but many don't seem that appealing to me, probably because I watched the video of game play instead of hopping in to the gameplay. I have been tossing back and forth on Robinson, only because I have found I can get a little motion sick, especially after playing games like Scavengers Oddysey, and that was one complaint I noticed on many reviews with Robinson.

The Pro does seem to run my VR a bit smoother than my launch PS4, but I will look for those noticeable differences when the games have been optimized for Pro and didn't just receive a patch.

I have read some articles pertaining to devs complaining about the tech. Do you think there is no money in developing games for VR, as some devs have said? I think creating the VR panel to make some things uniform across all platforms is a win win because it'll make development so much easier on these WOW games we're waiting for. I also think it is hard to market VR in the sense that a commercial does it no justice. Things that look completely stupid on a TV are so immersive and awesome in VR, it's literally indescribable. A simple game I like, HoloBall. Watching someone play is like meh, but you hop in to that digital tennis court and it's a blast.

I can say if PSVR is not supported to the level of the $500 I paid for the launch bundle, I will probably never buy another Sony peripheral again. I have owned from the PS2 on (used to be Nintendo fanboy, had to get N64 instead of original PS) including Move, and like you said, it was fun until I realized I dished out $100 for something that never really got supported. I wont compare the 2 though, PSVR and Move arent even in the same realm.

I guess like you, I want this to succeed badly. I am 37, and have been waiting for VR since being a kid and it was almost science fiction. 30 years later, BAM, it's here. I am not too worried yet, but like you have some concerns.

Re: Opinion: Why Sony Will Drop the PS4's Price if Necessary

hardrockr79

I suppose you are something different than an arm-chair analyst? Comparing Sony today, to what it did 15 years ago with PS2? Not the same economy, not the same company after posting billions in losses. Historically, Sony wasn't in the mess then that they are now. They were arrogant for many years, now they're in the process of undoing all that arrogance and are trying to save their consumer electronics divisions. They will drop the price on one of the only pieces of hardware that posts a profit only if they have to, and being outsold on a Black Friday with crazy deals from competitors is hardly reason to change the current price point. All manufacturers have deals during the holiday season, some better than others. Sony was outsold in the US on Black Friday. Wow, surprise surprise. If they lower the price cool, if not, cool. Never did I dream of debating something so completely ridiculous. My bad.

Re: Sony's Fighting Back with Some Big US PS4 Bundles

hardrockr79

@FlipNiggle Better performance, gameplay, graphics, & contoller. My kids still click the PS3 on, but I have all but lost interest. Since Driveclub came out I haven't touched GT, The Last of Us (didn't play on PS3) was exceptional.

I guess for me PS4 has resparked my gaming interests. I was ready for a change though, so I anticipated the release anxiously. I have had a few disappointments, mainly the lack of media playback, but doesn't affect gaming obviously.

For me, its kinda like when we were going from VHS to DVD; sure DVD looked great, but you didn't truly notice the real difference until you popped a VHS back in and were like "What is this crap." That may be a little exagerater in terms of PS3 to PS4 visuals, but you get the point. I am not a PC gamer, so the improved console graphics are always exciting.

Re: PS4 Conditions 'Tougher' in the US Following Xbox One Price Cut

hardrockr79

I understand that strong sales in the US are critical in helping the PS4's continued success, but with MS practically giving the X1 away, I really don't see what everyone is worried about. PS4 is no Dreamcast, and has established itself this generation all over the world. What a great first year for PS4, and I see another equally successful year coming. I think they are accutly aware of MS momentum and will respond properly.

In the end, your never gonna convince a penny pinching mom to buy something with a bigger price and less options; whether that be 2 games and ($50) pricecut or whatever, so unless Sony can compete with that kind of loss on every machine sold, I say keep it profitable. Microsoft could literally give the X1 away for this entire generation and never bat an eye, Sony doesn't have that luxury.

Re: Talking Point: Is This Gaming's Most Disappointing Ever Year?

hardrockr79

I think if you purchase a newly released product in the first 6 months - 1 year then don't complain about the bugs being worked out. With the always evolving complexity in programming, new hardware that developers are still on the learning curve with, and everybody's expectations are completely out of control (not that the game developers don't contribute to this, but people still choose to believe everything released will be the greatest gaming experience ever). I am happy with my PS4, bugs are annoying but tolerable, and personally I think if it were perfect, people would still complain.

Re: Talking Point: Should SCEA Prepare More Official PS4 Bundles?

hardrockr79

I've wondered why we don't get at least some sort of variation of bundles that EU gets. I'm always jealous when I see all the bundles released other places, and Destiny didn't interest me past the Beta; but the white PS4 looks solid.

Think of the backlash they would have received if a Driveclub bundle had released for the game launch in the US. Maybe Sony knows what their doing:)

Re: Good News, PS4 Exclusive DriveClub Almost Works Now

hardrockr79

I picked this up today, figured I'd play offline and practice until it is up and running. I've been able to connect 4/5 times, liking this more than what I've read. I understand I've missed a lot of the "nightmare," but this is exactly the kind of racing game I like. It'll do until Gran Turismo comes out.

Re: Feature: Why Do Next-Gen Games Keep Disappointing?

hardrockr79

@ShogunRok Absolutely right!! Too many disappointments means to many expectations. Has everything been perfect? No. I personally am not that big of a critic, and when it comes down to it, how much further can VIDEO GAMES go, or what are people really expecting them to do. Just because next gen is here doesn't mean games are gonna magically do something different. For me, next gen has always been about graphics. Since my NES, each system graphics have gotten better, gameplay has remained about the same. Games are games, nothing more.
