Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Software Actually Sells for Once

naruball

@LowDefAl I've thought about that and I realize that you may be right, but it seems to me that they've changed strategy altogether.

For example, in the past they said that only 6 out of 10 games they release make a profit, but they're ok with that because some are very successful and can fund the less successful ones. They no longer do that. Every game needs to be (or have the potential to be) a big hit or they won't bother making it.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Software Actually Sells for Once

@LowDefAl Sony could have chosen to lose some money on each unit sold and make it up through software sales. It's what they used to do generation after generation worldwide. They were able to see the bigger picture. Now they're so focused on increasing profits that they're stuck with a terrible image in Japan and as a result have almost completely lost the market to Nintendo.

Re: Until Dawn Is One of Sony's Worst Performing PC Ports to Date

naruball

@Anthony_Daniels for one thing, the brand, another would be sales of ps games. Plenty of people state they'd rather get the PC version whenever it comes out. And considering how many people pirate games, they may end up losing money instead of making more.

Also, keep in mind that several ports were made in-house, thus taking sources away from new games.

@thefourfoldroot1 I strongly agree though based on previous discussions, it seems that opinion is divided. Damned if they do, damned if they don't, it seems. Also, it's worth keeping in mind that games launch with serious technically issues that affect the score they receive, even if they're soon afterwards fixed. So, there is no ideal solution here.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Hasn't Removed Yasuke, But Dev Focused on Historical Accuracy

@HamKnight "All of the context surrounding Ubi’s decision to include Yasuke as a main character points to disingenuous intent."

By "all", you mean the Black Lives Matter movement? That's the entire context? Zero other contributing factors?

How about the percentage of black people who live in France? How about the black employees that work for Ubisoft? Were they being cynical, too?

That's the problem with bias. You see all the points that fit your narrative and ignore all the other possible contributing factors. When I first started reading your reply, I thought "that's actually a good point. At that moment it wasn't clear if focusing on black characters would increase sales; I didn't think about that. HamKnight could actually be right about that". But then you had to make several assertions that undermined your point.

A shame. A real shame.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Hasn't Removed Yasuke, But Dev Focused on Historical Accuracy

@HamKnight yes, but you can't be cynical and do something that won't be beneficial to you. There is no guarantee that such a move would lead to more profit. On the contrary, only a few games that have chosen such a direction have been successful.

"There are already others here who have pointed out the Samurai character was swapped out after events of 2020. This directly speaks to my original point."

And what source did these others provide to support their claim? If I make the opposite claim, will you accept it or reject it because you don't like it?

Re: Insider Report Adds Context to Assassin's Creed Shadows' Big Delay

@Kalime78 there are so many games to play, so many movies/TV series to watch, so many activities to do, etc, nowadays, that there is no excuse even for people with too much time on their hands to get that upset over a game. When my favourite band released an album which was very different from the rest of their albums (went from pop punk to heavy metal), I listened to it once and (even though I bought it) never again. There was no need to be furious. There were more artists to enjoy.

@NEStalgia "meanwhile plenty of that accomplished guys are proven to have had no idea what they were doing"

I have to somewhat disagree. Internet people will point out all the mistakes these higher ups make as if they have some crystal balls. Most armchair experts didn't expect things like Minecraft or Genshin Impact to be that successful before they launched. Had they failed, they would have been acting all smug saying "they shouldn't have green-lit this! What were they thinking?". I mean, they don't know if Factions 2 was any good, yet are convinced that it was a mistake to cancel it.

Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro

@Nem while Sony is making more revenue than ever, apparently their profits are exceedingly low. Which is why they're not spending money on games that aren't a sure thing (other than gaas, which has the potential to be a gold mine - or a financial bomb). So, as a gamer who loved their AA games, this is bad news.

@RadioHedgeFund "If Sony convince the market that £700 should be the going rate for the Playstation 6 then we're in trouble"

Ι don't think it will be that expensive. They know they need casual gamers for free to play games and MTX. They won't lose them just so that they can deliver cutting edge technology. They may push for the digital only version, though, to reduce costs.
