Re: GTA 5 Has Now Sold an Eye Watering 150 Million Copies

@ShogunRok I find it extremely curious as to what Gta online could have done if it had gone f2p like Warzone and Fortnite. I genuinely think it could have been bigger than fortnite especially if they had found a way to port it to Android/IOS (miniscule version like PUBG or streaming).
Rockstar does have a tendency to be more 'premium' so I'm not surprised they kept it as a priced product.

Re: PS Now August 2021 Games Announced with NieR: Automata, Ghostrunner, Undertale Added

reek

@ATaco Yeah, you'll find it overrated and mediocre ( I know I did). The first two campaigns are exactly that apart from the music. Just know that the actual game is locked up in the third campaign and again, trust me, That's an experience you don't get otherwise. Missing out on that is like missing out on something very very memorable. Admittedly, the first two boring campaigns are what lead to the third one so it's very sad to see people missing out on something that unique.

Re: PS Now August 2021 Games Announced with NieR: Automata, Ghostrunner, Undertale Added

reek

@ATaco Good heavens. Somebody who hasn't played Nier automata. Anyways, if you're serious, just know the third campaign is an experience of a lifetime, so BEYOND incredible that I don't think I'll ever forget a certain character in my life. Most people, unfortunately, probably never discovered it due to weirdo Japanese developers putting the best parts in such a hidden manner. If you decide to quit before the third campaign, WATCH it on youtube because, again, I promise you the third campaign is something very VERY special.

Re: Konami Admits PES Successor eFootball Will Effectively Be a Demo at Launch

reek

I don't think it sounds that bad. They're being honest about it meaning they have a long term plan and frankly, they're setting up the future trend of annual games that's been a long time in the making so this release is very very important to this industry.
Also most online live service game starts like this, then gets expanded later so again, the fact they're being so direct is a positive. Hopefully, other annual 'update' games will also be forced to change to this model by the next decade.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022, Says New Report

reek

@TheDudeElDuderino A safer, more predictable product would probably be Ellie and Joel hanging around and saving each other (deus ex machina). OR 'evil' person who ****** Joel being the big boss at the end. So in that sense, it was definetly gutsy. Why, what would have been the 'brave' story in your opinion?

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022, Says New Report

reek

@TheDudeElDuderino Actually while interesting I wasn't that amazed (I thought plenty of other stories ,particularly in novels, had done this kind of "subversion" before) but my hype might have been too high given the hatred towards it. (Yeah, the hate made me think it was going to be more unique admittedly).
However, with that said, for a 'big project' I think it was still somewhat confident. And it did piss off an army of very vocal people while getting acclaim which itself is very impressive in some ways.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022, Says New Report

reek

@gollumb82 Just remember its an indie game and its really addictive once you get into it. Kinda like more addictive 'runs' than returnal.
As for tlou2 hate, that's everywhere where the core gaming community is. The vocal minority makes sure to let everybody know how much they hate it. But personally, I think it speaks more for the game when it gets so much praise while also being so much hated by a core. Shows they took creative risks and then delivered rather than a safer, predictable product that would be liked by all.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022, Says New Report

reek

This makes this years game of the year so interesting. Think this is the first time I find it somewhat difficult to predict.

Btw, the best games are it takes two, returnal, ratchet and clank, hitman 3, re8, monster hunter rise.
There's no clear defined winner and I think either of these (except maybe re8 and hitman 3) could win. I would personally go for monster hunter rise first and it takes two second.

Anybody want to make a prediction?

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Stats Show Most Popular Shepard, Key Story Choices, and Much More

reek

Mordin's death is dissapointing in me2 because you miss such a good moment in Me3.
Secondly, the 32 percent is much better than the 18 percent in ME3. Shows the decreased divide in videogames over the years as well as Bioware marketing femshep properly this time. Even if something is not popular in the mainstream initially, advertising and encouraging it raises it quite a lot.
Third point, the genophage turned from a grey issue in ME1 to a very 'renegade and evil people only commit genophage" in ME3 even though its obvious that krogan will overpopulate in the galaxy bringing death and destruction. Still would support the 6 percent.

Re: FIFA 22 Officially Revealed, and It's All About HyperMotion Gameplay Technology

reek

@lolwhatno People act crazy because they care about these things. They have grown up knowing that a piece of land they were born in called something is 'theirs' and they learn patriotism and go and fight wars for it. Ofcourse they cheer if it 'wins' in anything. Imagine the emotions on an election night, sports is like a trivial version of rooting for your team, and by extension, the country that you feel so attached to.
Plus, bonus if you love the sport and if you look around you can see other people having extreme emotions and being obsessed with the sport and its natural for most people to conform and imitate the behavior of people around them.
Finally, compare this to video games. It's a bunch of virtual characters and you're pressing a bunch of buttons and yet people get so emotional on both the state of a game or if they lose while playing a competitive game.
Even caring about whether Fifa is different or not, like people here and on the internet, is ridiculous as you don't have any control over it and the things you're experiencing are being experienced by millions of people all over the world and you're just one random insignificant person. Despite all of that, people care about their favorite video games quite a lot when you explore these communities. And finally, all of these are coming from a person with a similar perspective to you. Despite everything i have said to explain and justify it, it looks completely ridiculous to me too.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Sells Even Better in Its Second Week

reek

@David187 As far as the music industry goes, artists are no longer able to command prices that are too high. In the movie industry, actors in MCU movies are going to command a higher salary than even the high-tier stuff netflix produces. And yes, in terms of financial growth, the gaming industry is going to decline with the coming of subscription model just like the music industry did, and the movie industry is going through (cinema don't sell as much tickets as the 90s but they keep increasing the ticket prices).

So, yeah in terms of financial success, I don't think it's that good but it will result in more targeted AA market than the 'target everybody' AAA market.

However, with games, consoles will still survive, people will still have the option of buying to play it locally so it won't be as disastrous as it was for the music industry. Plus, you have microtransactions, games as a service and many more ways to earn money in a game that you can't in movies/ music, which will still exist in the subscription model.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Sells Even Better in Its Second Week

reek

@Omnistalgic
50 percent correct I'd say. It's true premium AAA gaming can't get your mom. HOWEVER, she already probably plays candy crush or the like through touch controls. Microsoft is working on implementing touch controls thru the mobile version (and already has abt 50) . Just click a button and play with your fingers.
The only thing stopping your mom then would be the complexity of the game which can be reduced by making it more 'casual' more 'nintendo-like'.

However, there is a huge addressable market perfectly okay with more complex games unable to play them so as a consumer, your mom would come late into the target market. And even after that, some stubborn people might still never play these games considering it a hassle.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Sells Even Better in Its Second Week

Let's be real, subscription is the future. It's been true for all other forms of entertainment and will be for gaming as well. It just hasn't been combined properly with the streaming model. Google failed. Sony didn't have the money. I'm confident with what Microsoft is doing. There is a ridiculously massive market in the developing world, where consoles are still a luxury so for now premium gaming is still stuck in somewhat of a niche by comparison.

Regardless, it's the future model, something so ridiculously over-the-top in value that a single product simply cannot compete with it.

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem Plagues PS5 in 2022

reek

So this is weird but nobody on the internet has pointed it out. A plague tale: innocence typically is the very first game on a subscription service because of the alphabetical nature of it. Likely it was one reason it got played more than it would have been if it's name had been different (not started with A). So I'm sure because of the firsts part success on subscription services (due to many reason but also this one) they released the game day one on the biggest subscription service. This one also starts with an A.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Horizon Forbidden West?

reek

How can you call it the most visually impressive playstation title when it's releasing on a console released in 2013. There are games clearly built with only the ps5 in mind, demon souls or even ratchet and clank and (i'm guessing) god of war.

On the other hand, this goes on to show how graphics aren't improving like they used to (perhaps due to the focus on resolution rather than graphics). I remember looking at The Order on ps4 and not believing it was a game back then.

Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway

reek

@Anonimia This is a 'for the fans' site so obviously it's not going to be too intelligent on average nor is it going to take non-ps news very well. That said, the comments are mercifully better and less toxic than on some pc news site. gamesindustrybiz is probably the best one i have seen so far but it's more for the developers rather than fans.

Anyways I'm interested in this as well and I largely agree with the effects subscription will have on the videogame market. I don't think amazon will partner with sony since they have similar ambitions with luna, atleast for now. Google on the other hand may, considering they have largely stepped off from promoting stadia, which ofcourse was never going to be a hit considering the lack of a subscription model. The other company I can think of is maybe apple that has the amount of money to be able to do this.
