Re: Guide: Best PS4 Strategy Games

Gatatog

So glad to see Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun at #2. One of my fave games of last year. Such an incredible strategy/stealth experience.

Also XCOM 2 definitely deserves the top spot, although it was only the War of the Chosen expansion that really turned that game into something special, in my opinion. It has a lot of technical issues on PS4 too, but they don't detract from how good it is.

I should be using the lack of releases to clear some of my backlog but instead I've been replaying Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I also started replaying Shadow of War, after the big microtransaction removal patch on Tues. It was a choice between restarting or just finishing off Shadow Wars and I couldn't resist working my way through it all again. Great game.

Re: Ellie Won't Have to Fight Alone in The Last of Us: Part II

Gatatog

Unpopular opinion here but despite loving the original, I have zero hype for this game. I think my lack of excitement is down to the lack of Joel. Obviously Ellie was a main character in the first game but for me it was Joel's relationship with her and how he slowly opened his heart and started caring for her that made the game what it was. Seeing virtually nothing of the character that, for me, made the first game special hasn't really endeared me to it.

Re: Dead Island 2 Is Still in Development, More Will Be Revealed in Time

Gatatog

This series just seems so unnecessary now. Techland moved on to make Dying Light, where it managed to completely blow its previous game out of the water, and now we have a sequel coming I just don't see how Dead Island fits in. I did enjoy the first game but Riptide was pretty poor and with the incredibly troubled development of this, what can we really expect from it now? I like Sumo Digital but they'll have to really pull out all the stops to get me interested in this again.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 225

Since I've already got The Crew 2 preordered (I loved the first game and had a blast with the closed beta) I'll be spending this weekend with Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Its got its flaws and I'm still working on getting the hang of the combat, but I'm enjoying the characters and the story. Henry is a bit of an idiot.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Does Cross-Play Matter to You?

Gatatog

I guess I understand why people are annoyed that a game that should allow progression to carry over between consoles has been blocked (a la Fortnite) but the only other reason I could imagine cross-console play being valuable is with MP games that struggle keeping a playerbase. Whatever the case, I'm very much on the 'it doesn't really affect me so I'm not bothered' side of this argument.

Re: E3 2018: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Goes Full RPG, Looks a Lot Like Origins

Gatatog

Origins was great so I'm really looking forward to giving this a go... eventually. I was hoping it would be taking a year off again and all these similarities to Origins (interface, animations etc) only serve to strengthen that opinion. It makes it look more like a spinoff in the same vein as Ezio's sequels and Rogue, rather than the next main entry in the series.

Re: Talking Point: Was Bethesda's Press Conference Brilliant or a Bust?

Gatatog

I thought it was pretty impressive - in terms of all the games they had on show anyway. All the devs who came on stage (besides Todd Howard of course) just felt like an unwelcome distraction. I understand them wanting to show off their titles but would have preferred a faster pace before the Todd showed up.

Re: Fallout 76 Announced, Teaser Trailer Released

Gatatog

I love Fallout but 4 was not a great game and with Shelter being a thing, I'll definitely need more details before I let myself get excited. Having said that though, I'm really disappointed it isn't a remaster of New Vegas.

Re: Review: Space Hulk: Deathwing (PS4)

Gatatog

Great review. Unfortunately I don't think I could agree more. It's definitely a step in the right direction, since the 40k license is crying out for some decent games, but it's just too repetitive and unpolished to be anything more than an incredibly short, throwaway game.

If they'd gone the way of Space Marine and introduced some different enemies, it may have helped ease the repetition, but an entire game just fighting increasingly resilient tyrannids isn't enough. I'm really hoping that Inquisitor - Martyr will finally be a great console 40k game (other than Space Marine because that was brilliant).

Re: Onrush PS4 Open Beta Extended by Two Days

Gatatog

I'm loving it. I hit the level 25 required to unlock all the full game rewards on the same night I started playing it. It's just so unique and so much fun. It's like the racing version of a hero shooter.

Re: Review: Conan Exiles (PS4)

Gatatog

Like some of the others in the comments, I was a little surprised to see a 6 slapped on the end of this review. It is a bit of a buggy game but still, the text definitely suggested a higher score.

I'm really enjoying it myself, and I'm usually not someone who enjoys survival games. Generally, if a game has survival aspects I'll tend to steer clear, but this has really captured my attention. I've spent so much time just building a house and trying to get set up before I go exploring and grabbing myself some thralls.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 218

Gatatog

Not PlayStation but most of my gaming at the moment has been spent trying to get my many WoW characters ready for the expansion.

On the PS side of things, I'm trying to finish farming for all the mats I need to craft the Dante gear in MHW. Teostra just will not be kind and give me his wings and gem.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 216

Gatatog

Do I even need to say? Yakuza 6 of course! I kid, I kid. Though I will inevitably play some Yakuza 6 this weekend I can't lie and say God of War isn't the game predominantly on my mind.

The entire sequence with the "Stranger" was one of, if not my favourite moment of the generation and since that the game has been consistently incredible. I was worried that I might feel let down after all the rave reviews raised my hope to the limits but its definitely not been a disappointment so far.

Re: Review: Extinction (PS4)

Sounds like one of the flawed gems I'd usually end up really enjoying. Having said that, I think I'll wait for a price drop before testing that theory.
