Re: Talking Point: Do You Fast Travel in Open World Games?

JohnnyBastos

Once I'm 20 or 30 hours into a game and covering the same ground I'll happily fast travel. I do feel a little guilty about it, but hey, there's only so many hours in a day. And only so many drowners I can be bothered to hack apart.

Never fast traveled anywhere in Red Dead Redemption though. Many I loved riding around in that game. The light, the music, the scenery. Just incredible.

Re: Your PlayStation Plus Games for March Have Been Revealed

JohnnyBastos

First time I've ever commented on the PS Plus Games. I'm not hating on indie games, and not expecting AAAs for free, but am distinctly unexcited by this selection. I've really enjoyed some of the PS4 games (Valiant Hearts, PixelJunk Shooter, Grow Home, MGS prologue), but the past few months have not caught my interest at all. But I have a big enough backlog of games I paid for, and don't mind paying my subscription just for the server access alone. So no biggie, just would have liked to have an new game to get excited about.

Re: The Ratchet & Clank Movie's TV Commercial Is Baaah-d

JohnnyBastos

Frankly, that was way better than I was expecting from the comments.

It's only a teaser trailer to present the look of the movie and show the main characters. Nothing in there tells you whether it will be good or bad. I was just pleased it didn't make me think the film was going to be awful.

Re: Rumour: Destiny Is Getting More Microtransactions

JohnnyBastos

@Jaz007 I was a bit dismissive before, but I thought about it more last night, and I now think you're right actually. Costumes, emotes, etc ARE part of the potential fun I could have with a game. So yes, Bungie/Activision are asking us to pay more to enjoy the game more. And for completionists, blocked cosmetic items are certainly a genuine source of frustration.

That being said, it's fighting a losing battle to think this isn't going to become the norm for all sorts of games in future. I guess I'm lucky that I can live with that, but I will be more sympathetic to the other point of view in future. Except when people come across as entitled whiners tho* - no company out to make a profit owes us anything. We do not have a 'right' to these blocked items, but it's fair enough to let the companies know they won't win our loyalty with that type of money grabbing. I wouldn't ever encourage anyone to boycott a company or game though, that's just petulant.

*Definitely not implying you were any of these things btw.

Re: Rumour: Destiny Is Getting More Microtransactions

@Jas007
Yup, I am totally fine with not having access to some locked emotes which have absolutely zero bearing on my gameplay. I play it for the shooting, levelling up and gear, you see. But if you are into collecting and displaying emotes, then fair enough, I can see why you'd be upset.

Re: Rumour: Destiny Is Getting More Microtransactions

@Kayross
I get where you're coming from, but the slippery-slope argument just isn't valid. Inconsequential micro-transactions are a completely different thing to selling better gear. Do you really think that companies like Activision or Bungie aren't capable of realising the backlash they would get if they introduced that? I don't think anyone has to voice their concerns - I'm very confident they are well aware of them.

More importantly, who on earth would feel the need to buy ammo packs??? Bizarre.

Re: Store Update: 18th March 2015 (Europe)

JohnnyBastos

$100 even for just the basic edition?!! Seriously? I've never paid more than $70 for a AAA title (I'm lucky I can buy from the US store), and usually get them on day of release.

I was going to buy this, but not at that price! No way. I'll just wait 3 months, thanks.

Re: Opinion: Why You Shouldn't Write Off PS4 Racer DriveClub

JohnnyBastos

Some of you fellas need to drop the chips off your shoulders. It's a good game, simple as. Best driving game on the PS4 far by far. If you're not going to give it a go simply because you feel personally offended that Evolution screwed up the launch, then you're just missing out. Get over it lads, there are bigger things to get in a flap about.

Re: Good News, PS4 Exclusive DriveClub Almost Works Now

JohnnyBastos

Yeh, I agree with @FATAL-USMC, the game is NOT "almost" working. I can stay connected most of the time so finally my XP is being logged for my Club, and I can access the lobbies regularly. Unfortunately only 1 in game in 5 actually gets through the connecting players stage. It's literally 20 minutes of trying to get in a race before one finally works. So yeh, the basics are up and running, but the servers are still clearly overloaded. I wouldn't be holding out for the PS+ version any time soon.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

JohnnyBastos

Should be easy enough to dish out a free track or some cars, the whole game architecture is clearly designed for continuous content updates.

I've finally managed to get online a couple of brief times and the racing is good when you can get in. Despite the launch disaster I'm still happy enough with the game.

BTW, if anyone wants join a club, Bastos Racing is looking for drivers. I don't know anyone with the game so can't unlock any of the club cars until I have a club member. If you join mine I'll join yours......

Re: Evolution Studios: We're As Frustrated About DriveClub Issues As You Are

JohnnyBastos

Well I have the Drive, but I'm just missing the Club part of the game. 3rd day now and still no server access, It's pretty amusing that the feature most behind the delayed launch, the menus, is looking pretty sad and redundant with most tiles missing information or greyed out. I do like the half of the game that works though; it looks great, has decent handling, good physics, fair AI, etc. Definitely worth $50 I'd say.
