Re: Nathan Fillion Plays the Role He Was Born to in Uncharted Fan Movie

JohnnyBastos

@GravyThief I played them all for the first time before UC4 came out and it is worth it. My tip would be to forget about the collectibles and just steam through the story. All games have a handful of "treasures" hidden in each level, and later games have the odd additional conversation to trigger. I expect you're like me and will hate ending a level with 3 of 4 treasures collected, but I urge you to resist replaying the level or reaching for the browser on your phone. Just accept that you are going to play it through once and will not 100% it. I do recommend poking around every corner in a level to see the scenery, but don't get caught with the completionist compulsion. The game is also more engaging when you keep pace with the music, set piece transitions, direction cues etc. If you are searching around trying to find every last object you slow down the game and lose some immersion.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 RPGs

@ShogunRok Fair dos. I didn't realise the listicles were so popular. I visit multiple times daily specifically because of the quality of journalism. I don't begrudge the site making money by adverts or click-throughs or whatever. It just seemed like there was a glut of these 'guides' in the past two weeks, and not all of them show the same level of effort. The ones on PSPlus credit, external harddrives, or racing wheels, for example, were just a list of amazon links. No opinion, no assessment criteria, no comparison, just a description of what the thing is. Top quality content? Not in my book. The headphones one was great, that's what I'd call quality content.

Just holding you guys to the high standard you set elsewhere on the site. Not being blind to economic realities.

The best eh? 30 of them? Didn't work too hard to narrow down the selection did you. Oh, but there are 30 Amazon links posted. Hope it satisfies the paymasters. Seems to have been a lot of "The best..." articles in the past week, helpfully accompanied by Amazon links. Are you having to meet a quota? Feels like it.

Re: Interview: MediEvil Creators Give Their Verdict on the Forthcoming PS4 Remaster

JohnnyBastos

Great read, thanks for that. I'm not bothered about the remaster (there's only so many hours in the day and so many games I haven't played yet), but I loved the original.

It will be interesting to see how they recreate the atmosphere of the original. Part of what made it such a good game was how they used their limited assets to such great effect. Playing it at the time you really appreciated how they had taken things to a new level (music, lighting, art design, characterisation, etc) - I'm not sure if new players will experience anything close to that these days.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Assassin's Creed Origins Climbs into Top 5

JohnnyBastos

Thanks @BAMozzy and @ShogunRok

I've been glancing at other reviews and they all seem to confirm that the open world aspect is great. Which is what I was hoping for, and is probably enough to warrant a purchase. I just want to know what the overall gameplay experience is now.

The reason I'm holding out for the Pushsquare review is because I find my opinion on a game, or the things I look for in a game, are often very close to the main reviewers'. Also, being a regular reader, I understand how the team generally feel about the series and how that will shape their review. Basically Pushsquare reviews are my most trusted thermometer these days.

That said, HZD DLC is out next week, so maybe I'll just wait for AC to come down in price.

The metacritic rating is reassuring. I find them pretty reliable.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part II's New Trailer Too Much?

JohnnyBastos

Nice one @hadlee73

I thought the trailer was great. World building for the game, makes sense to me.

I suppose REALISTIC violence is more discomforting than movie violence, but that's a good thing, right? Violence is a facet of humanity that we can't ignore. Exploring it is not glorifying it.

Re: Microtransactions Are Being Implemented in the Scariest of Ways

JohnnyBastos

Interesting (and encouraging) that Bungie are explicitly saying we don't do this. They clearly think it makes more commercial sense for them to market their games as fair and respectful to players.

Micro-transactions don't really don't bother me because I simply ain't interested in spending money on in-game items. If I end up in a game where other players have a paid advantage, then I'll just stop playing that game. And I think a lot of other people will too. Bungie also seem to think this.

That said, I do feel some of the comments in the other thread about the risks to vulnerable adults or unsupervised children are pretty valid. Like others said in that thread though, there are ways those risks could be managed.

Re: There Will Be People Who Think This Sonic Forces Gameplay Is Good

JohnnyBastos

@get2sammyb "God, this thread did not go well."

Beg to differ; it's the most enjoyable comment thread so far this week.

The fact that Pushsquare publishes the occasional tongue-in-cheek article and has genuine interaction with its readers is what I'm here for. Keep taking the risks guys, I think the majority of your readers really appreciate it.

Re: TGS 2017: Is This PlayStation's Best Ever Commercial?

JohnnyBastos

Er, no, it's nowhere near the Playstation's "Best Ever Commercial". Not even that impressive really. I'm feeling that headline is a tad too click-baity for the high standards set on Pushsquare, Sammy sir.

I really enjoyed that Destiny dance-off one a couple of weeks ago.
