Re: Kohl's Reneges Credit on Cancelled PS5 Orders, Retailer Says Sweetener Only Applies to Single Purchase

JohnnyBastos

@Fath Yeah, I read the article. By duping I mean taking far more orders, especially for multiple consoles, than they ever had a chance of fulfilling. Tying up people's time and money. I agree 180 credit is decent compensation, but it's still a shady business practice.

Besides, my main point was how generic 'apologise for the inconvenience' language is practically meaningless these days. I don't believe they are sorry at all. I find weak sauce apologies like that verging on insulting.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PlayStation at Launch 25 Years Ago?

JohnnyBastos

I was a Sega boy (Mastersystem, Megadrive/Genesis) when it was released, but always had to buy my consoles second hand a couple of years after they came out. I got a PS1 in late 96 and Tomb Raider blew my goddam mind. When that bear rushed me on the first level, I was hooked for life.

I also happened to be working in Blockbuster at the time and they started renting games. Holy moly I played EVERYTHING!

Also, I can't believe how old the majority of readers of Pushsquare are!

Re: Interview: Dustborn Dev on Word Play, Diversity, and Representation

JohnnyBastos

@Olmaz Bud, I think you might be vastly overestimating the power of Twitter and Facebook. You're also leaning a lot on the D Trump rhetorical device of "a lot of people are saying..." and the Fox News/Daily Mail approach of alluding to faceless bogeymen. I do respect you for genuinely trying to articulate your view and not just force it though. That said, I think most people here just simply don't agree with you that social pressure is having either a) a significant impact on the creative process of game designers/writers, or b) a detrimental impact on said process.

Re: PlayStation Temporarily Pulls the Plug on Facebook, Instagram Advertising

JohnnyBastos

@MarcG420 Yeh, probably. Look man, the right wing persecution complex being pushed by politicians and pundits across western society drives me mad too. But I don't want to add any fuel to that fire. I want the opposite, I want to try to combat the rift I have seen opening up in society over the last decade or so. As a global community we need to make so many big changes to deal with climate change and extreme inequality, and this squabbling over the meaning of free speech or statues or whatever is just distracting us all. Hence I get high and mighty in comment threads on the internet.

Re: PlayStation Temporarily Pulls the Plug on Facebook, Instagram Advertising

JohnnyBastos

It genuinely makes me sad that conservatives feel they are being persecuted. I know that sounds sarcastic, but I mean it. There is a wedge being driven into Western society, and we're all suffering because of it. Why do the left and right think each other group hates them. It just can't be true if you sit down and really think about it. Sweeping generalisations about one side or other are just not helpful.

Here's some facts. But hey, those don't exist anymore right? FFS.

Re: PS5's Media Remote Is Super Slick, Includes a Microphone

JohnnyBastos

@NotSmartEnough Ah, I just got the basic one, it's showing it's age, but it wasn't the revolution I hoped. I thought I was smart getting everything onto one remote controller, but my wife still has to ask which preset she needs to press to go from netflix to the digital box or turn down music that's playing. It's telling that the original remotes still have their batteries in.

Re: PS5's Media Remote Is Super Slick, Includes a Microphone

JohnnyBastos

@NotSmartEnough Not wishing to interrupt your crusade against rhetorical generalizations, nor defend @Shinobi1Kenoby 's dismissive replies, however the I got the Mormon reference straightaway and found it quite amusing. Not sure if this is the hill (either of) you want to die on, but each to his/her own.

Re: New Date for PS5 Reveal Event Coming 'Soon', Says PlayStation

JohnnyBastos

I see the ignorance and entitlement continues to run strong in the comments on these reveal postponements. I really don't see what the problem is. The main refrain seems to be "they're just doing it for the money, they don't care", to which I just think, so what? A business does a business thing - shock, horror! Putting aside that companies are made up of many staff who likely do care, and putting aside that you don't know what else these companies are doing in the background, how is it skin off your nose for a livestream to be delayed for a few days?

Are you offended on my behalf? Are you genuinely worried that Sony will not do as well as MS with the next gen consoles? Do you think these gestures of support are counter-productive to the realization of a more just and equal world* (which everyone seems to agree is a shared goal here)?

Do I think it does much good? Noooo, not all. But is it better than saying nothing? Yessireebob it is! This is how political change happens.

*I have seen one commentor going with this argument, which I think is worth debating. I disagree with the assertion (as history implies otherwise to me), but if this were the level of discussion that would be different. Instead it's all pearl-clutching "oh the hypocrisy" and "I'm not racist, but..."

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire Livestream Postponed to 25th June

JohnnyBastos

The 'whataboutism' responses being laid out in these comment threads are pathetic. You're just trying to sound wise and perceptive. You're not. And the vast majority of people are seeing right through it.

Could be worse though: I've only seen a couple of weaksauce attempts at the "BuT aLl LiVeS mAtTeR" response...

Re: The Last of Us 2 Will Gobble Up At Least 100GB of PS4 Hard Drive Space

JohnnyBastos

@Akurusu I support companies who treat their workers like crap every single day. Multiple times probably. I don't know you or how you spend your money so I'm not making any conclusions, but it would seem hard to translate the moral high ground you are taking about a videogame into other areas of your life. I certainly couldn't do it, so I applaud you on your integrity.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Leak Leaves Director 'Heartbroken'

JohnnyBastos

And the edgelords are back in force on this comment thread too! Seems they can't resist letting us know (for the 50th time) how they feel about the overated Naughty Dog or "woke" Neil Druckmann. Thanks dudes, we appreciate you bringing balance and elucidation to the sheeple. Doin the lord's work!

Re: Huge The Last of Us 2 Spoiler Videos Leak Online

JohnnyBastos

Ahhh, it wouldn't be a TLOU comment thread without a few people making the effort to let us all know that they think TLOU 1 is overrated and/or TLOU2 is "woke". Thanks guys, we appreciate you taking the time, the world is back on track and you can rest easy tonight.

Re: Fans Are Hopeful DualSense's D-Pad Has Been Inspired by PS Vita

JohnnyBastos

See @get2sammyb , there's totally an article covering USB-C to be had!

@Jeremiah_Thor Yes, I was genuinely a little excited about USB-C too. The difference in charge speed, and ease of inserting the cable, are a huge step forward. That said, the charging cables strategically placed around my house for PS4 controller, headphones, camera batteries, portable power pack, wife's phone, mini speakers, PC mouse etc are all micro-USB. For sure all NEW tech is USB-C these days, but the majority of kit I have is still using micro.

@Haruki_NLI By sales point, I meant that traditionally the need to use a cable if on a marathon session (or a badly planned lack of overnight charging!) with a PS4 controller has been a mark against it, and the Xbox replaceable battery possibly preferred by the general public. However, if the DualSense can charge in 15 minutes rather 2 hours, that could turn opinion back towards it.

These are tiny tiny things to be discussing, but hey, coronalockdown, whatyagonnado?

For me, as long as it is quieter than the DualShock is the main thing I care about. The clicky buttons and noisy rumble motors are quite noticeable when there's someone else around.

Re: Fans Are Hopeful DualSense's D-Pad Has Been Inspired by PS Vita

JohnnyBastos

@Dodoo and @badbob001 It's not like I actually mind or begrudge them milking it. I've got total respect for the writers and editors and on this site. (I do dislike the listicles, but they're few and far between). I was being a bit sarcastic yes, but USB-C is worth drawing attention to as all current gen peripherals and most charging cables lying around people's houses are micro-USB. Also noting that Microsoft are sticking with the replaceable batteries again. If the controller has some good fast-charging electrickery inside that could become a sales point.

Re: Ex-Guerrilla Producer Rips Butthurt PlayStation Fans Over Horizon PC Port

JohnnyBastos

Phew! After reading many of these comments I'm feeling very reassured that there really is a passionate group of fans of the Playstation(TM) brand who are looking out for Sony's long term interests. I was getting a bit worried about Sony's ability to make money, and I really want those guys to do well, so it's very heartening that there are so many great brand enthusiasts who are so engaged in their business strategy and articulating so cogently why this move might make less money for the company in the future. Save the shareholders!
