I predict a 59.99 price point, no 'upgrade' fee for those who already own both titles on PS4, and a few months after release and sales dry up, it'll be the free PS5 title in the PS+ lineup. Should have just done the fans a solid and released a 60fps patch for the existing PS4 titles, but I get they're reselling this to make a quick buck and milk the hardcore audience.
I have to ask, pandemic aside, what the hell is taking Rockstar so long to get this thing out the door? Not launching until early 2022 now, but it's not like they've been doing anything since Red Dead Redemption 2 launched some years ago. Get the finger out Rockstar, sheesh! And I agree with many folks, the trailer was extremely underwhelming. Hard pass for me on this one.
I agree, whilst it wasn't a bad presentation by any means, it left something to be desired and was a bit underwhelming for me. Would have been nice to hear about / see more PlayStation Studios original projects and games from different genres, rather than stuff we already knew about and an announcement of more Marvel games. Cool as Wolverine is as a character, and as great a job as Insomniac are bound to do bringing it to life, where are the first person shooters like Resistance, Killzone or some new shooter IP? Where are the heavily rumoured and desired remakes like MGS? What's going on with BluePoint? No news about the hinted at evolution of the PS+ service? What the hell have Naughty Dog been doing these last 18 months? And what stuff are Bend, Sucker Punch, etc working on? It's just a bit weird to me, there must be lots of interesting games being worked on by Sony and whilst they might not have had footage ready to show, it would have been nice to hear about some of it. Also, how many games are being launched in February and March next year?? Spread them out a little eh, no-one has the time or money to consume 6+ big AAA titles in a 4-6 week timespan!
Yeah it would be a shame if nothing came of this. As others have said, there's no actual real evidence of an acquisition, just ongoing uncorroborated rumours and a graphic that could easily have been a dumb oversight on someone's part at Sony. BluePoint have a long running relationship with PlayStation and they've made brilliant games over the years - I do think it'd be stupid if Sony doesn't snap them up and make them part of the family (this assumes of course that BluePoint want to be acquired). I'd love to see a remake of the original MGS, reimagining and expanding on parts to make it compatible with modern game sensibilities and design, and BluePoint would be the ideal studio to bring it to life - the perfect balance of remake and some original design, which would be a logical next step for the developer. But it's looking shaky that they will be bought by Sony, and even less likely, sadly, that I'll get my wish and see MGS come back.
@AFCC Yeah, MGS remake would be amazing. Such a great game that I have so many fond memories of. I must of replayed it 10 times on the original PlayStation. It's sad that you can't experience its brilliance anymore (unless you have a very old console and can live with the 32 bit era graphics), and I reckon lots of new players would take to it if it was modernised and made accessible on newer platforms. I don't hold too much hope that it will happen, but I'd be thrilled if it was actually in development.
Hot take - if you're absolutely miffed about the pricing/upgrade plans for the game on PS platforms, just wait a few years and buy it for much cheaper when it releases on PC 😄
Sony really should check themselves before they wreck themselves though, just Miles Morales this mofo and offer dual PS4 and PS5 copies for the same price. They should do this for all cross-gen titles until they move to PS5 exclusive releases. Simple for customers / earns goodwill, simple for them, champagne and blowjobs for everyone.
Shock announcement and gameplay reveal of MGS remake exclusively for PS5. Oh, and it's gone gold and launches on December 8th. Boom, drop mic, exit left. Done.
@PossibLeigh Agreed about Assassin's Creed. I used to love the franchise and looked forward to new entries each year, but since Odyssey I've just lost interest - games are too long and bloated and they get very repetitive. They just outstay their welcome. I think part of the problem is that publishers want to keep you playing their product until the sequel drops. Rinse and repeat. That gets reflected in the game design, where assassins has now pivoted to an xp grind like WoW or something. Some gamers will love this, but I don't and I miss the older game design of assassin games. I wonder how many people actually play these new assassins games to completion, given the need to dedicate hundreds and if not thousands of hours...
@AdamNovice Sadly, I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to throw their bottomless pits of cash around to do something like that - its the only way they can get decent exclusive games on their platform these days...
@Poisonedpillsuk I have to admit, bugs and glitches aside, I also feel this game overpromised and underdelivered with its content. I get that its not meant to be GTA, but the open world is bland and underwhelming. I'll give it more consideration next year once its properly fixed, but I'm not sure its the game that the devs promised all these years...
I requested a refund for my digital copy. I was wary of all the hype, but decided to take a chance on the game and bought it. Despite being lucky enough to have a PS5 and play a better performing version of the game via backwards compatibility, I was still underwhelmed by the game and its performance. Honestly, I put the game down and was going to wait until the full fat PS5 upgrade so all the issues would be fixed and I'd get the best experience (there is a great game lurking under the surface of Cyberpunk in its current state). But when Sony advised a refund would be available I decided to take it - I won't be playing it until PS5 version I've decided and will use the refund money elsewhere. I'll buy it again when its actually a finished product. I also wanted to 'vote with my wallet' albeit in a late fashion, and let CDPR know I don't appreciate their dishonest shenanigans! Shame on them. My heart goes out to the boots on the ground developers who worked so hard to make this game, and will likely be subject to more intense crunch to patch it. The blame belongs solely, in my opinion, with CDPR management and shareholders.
@Grimwood I see your point, but have to disagree. Yes, for tech savvy folks, those with the knowhow, and those who don't mind voiding their PS4 warranty (if it's still within warranty) by prizing it open and muddling about with the innards, people can clean out the console and replace thermal paste, etc. But for the vast majority of PS4 owners - average Joe - this isn't something they have the knowledge or confidence to do, or may not even know is possible to do. In my opinion, its a smart and user friendly move by Sony to ensure the PS5 is better cooled and won't require invasive hands on maintenance to keep it in tip top working order.
@Salt_AU I hope you're right, as any normal company would indeed want to have massive titles like Elder Scrolls on all platforms to reclaim as much sales as possible to cover the $7.5 billion they spend acquiring ownership! But its MS, and their pockets go very, very deep. My fear, and I think it's very possible, is that MS will more than comfortably take the financial hit (because they can afford to) to make people buy into their ecosysystem to play those titles. If they do release on other platforms like PS5, aside from making money it would also be very classy of MS to do this. But if they withhold these much beloved titles....
I have to hand it to MS, they really made a smart move here and shifted the balance of power somewhat. I'm happy for Xbox fans, as this will bring direct positive benefits to them, and TBH, Xbox was needing a win. They got it, and big time. As a PS fan however, I'm disappointed. Elder Scrolls and Fallout are 2 franchises that I - and most other gamers - love, and the thought that I won't be able to play them anymore unless I buy into the Xbox ecosystem / get a gaming PC, frankly sucks. Its also disappointing to see MS throw their substantial wallet around to brute force their relevance again. PS has bought up some developers true (as have MS), but PS has slowly built up amazing studios over time. With the Bethesda acquisition, MS just swooped in and took several big developers off the table by writing a stupidly large cheque. This isn't akin to Sony buying timed exclusivity for titles which will come to other platforms at a later date (MS loved to do this too in the past), this is potentially - and very likely is - MS taking away many people's favourite toys, and telling them you won't get to play anymore unless you switch to their platforms. Again, great for Xbox fans, and a very savvy move by MS. But really bad news for PS players of some beloved franchises. I can only hope that with the eye watering money that changed hands, massive titles like Elder Scrolls and Fallout will still be released on PS so that MS can make money from sales, but I genuinely don't see this happening - MS can afford to take the $7.5 billion hit, and I reckon they'll do so to force consumers hands and make them buy Xbox.
@sanderson72 You'd be suprised though how many consumers - the average Joe who isn't a knowledgeable gamer - don't understand console ecosystems. With the frankly amazing price of the Series S, and its next gen branding, it'll make a fantastic parents/grandparents impulse buy for christmas gifts - for the kids who 'like their computer stuff'. A lot of people who buy consoles this way don't necessarily know you can't play PS games on Xbox and vice versa (years spent working in gaming retail paints a sorry picture of this happening all the time). Many folks just aren't that savvy, cause they're not super enthusiasts and just follow popular marketing and trends. Its the casual gamer and gift purchasers the Series S is aimed at, and MS may well have just thrown a massive wrench in Sony's dominance.
@UnlimitedSevens Couldn't agree more. But yes, Series S ugliness and lower performance aside, Joe Casual isn't going to know or care and understand the difference between the consoles, they'll make their choice based on the low price (and I can't blame them!) - but with MS naming nonsense I wouldn't be suprised if they picked up a One S for lil' Johnny's christmas by mistake
Their marketing/reveal strategy is pretty much in line with what they've done for previous consoles. We didn't see the PS4 reveal until E3. So they're on track. The main issue for me, is that they're not capitalising on the opportunity of having a captive worldwide audience - everyone is stuck at home and scrabbling for PS5 news to give them something to look forward to when this stupid pandemic is over. Sony should have tweaked their plans a bit and taken advantage of this! Even if they made regular small updates about PS5 to keep folk engaged. The radio silence from them has just sucked TBH. But we won't have much longer to wait, the release is only 6 months out and unless they've totally ballsed up behind the scenes, they have to start revealing and confirming things.
