The funniest part is all the people who think TGA's actually mean anything. 😅 It's a shallow event with no real integrity or substance beyond the occasional bit of spectacle and some game reveals (the whole thing is mostly a glorified sponsorship platform for a few industry egos).
But for what it's worth, I agree with the consensus that DLC doesn't belong in a game of the year category, FromSoftware cultists be damned. DLC should have it's own category, and there are many other games that better deserve this GOTY spot.
@nessisonett Yup, that's what I use by PS5 disc drive for, 4K movies. I moved over to buying games digitally many years ago, but 4K movies are the last physical media I still own due to their superior picture and sound quality (and the fragmented landscape of streaming services and their low bit rates drive me mad). The PS5's drive is a very capable 4K movie player indeed. Luckily I snapped up my drive attachment a while ago for normal price, before the stock shortage and scalper mayhem began...
We'll be getting full blown remakes of Zero Dawn and Forbidden West before we get part 3 at this rate. I really wish Sony Devs would speed up their game production time. I doubt we'll even see a new Naughty Dog game until the next damn generation is released. Sigh
I dislike the management of Ubisoft and wouldn't shed any tears if the Guillemots are ousted (I hope they are). I don't want to see Ubisoft itself fail though.
On the controversial subject of employee fury about having to spend 3 days per week in the office, I can see some strong minded heel dug opinions on both sides in the chat. Personally, I don't find it an unreasonable request at all - the remote working arrangements during COVID were always meant to be temporary, and only foolish people let themselves believe otherwise. I've seen poor attitudes about office working at my own place of business, and from my specific experience, those who rally the hardest against in-person attendance have tended to be quite selfish about the whole thing. They're usually people who have a great home working setup (nice house, dedicated work space, garden, etc); don't want to commute for 2-3 days per week; don't value the needs of their colleagues; don't value real interaction with their colleagues; slack off during the work day doing their own personal chores and business and/or are just generally lazy; or a combination of any of these.
Being asked to come to the office for 40-60% of your work week is what is called a 'reasonable compromise' between the way things were before and the way they were during COVID. It's a middle ground, best of both worlds situation for everyone. People also need to think about the needs of others and not just their own desires - there are colleagues who do not have a good setup at home for remote working (using kitchens and living rooms, etc); some people want and benefit from having a physical separation between work and home life; some people (whether their own fault or not) do not have enriching close family or friend circles and rely on seeing colleagues in-person to have real connections with other human beings; and last but not least, it is (shocking I know) actually healthy for people to communicate and interact with other humans in real physical proximity and not exclusively through a screen - this can do wonders for productivity, and critically, for team morale and bonding.
But long story short, in this case, they're French and will 100% throw their toys from the pram and strike!
Dear lord, there's a bunch of shameless scumbags already punting the Pro on eBay for thousands. What fool is honestly gonna pay £6000 for a 30th anniversary console?? Madness
I'd echo the sentiments of some others in the comments - we're all here for the Pro as we're mad PlayStation enthusiasts, and Sony will be conjuring up FOMO and hype with today's limited stock queue system. If you don't manage to get a Pro today, do not fret! There will be more stock in the coming weeks and months, and you will be able to get one. Do not feed the scalpers and opportunists by buying one on the after market!
@JustX I gave up refreshing the PS Direct site around 2am, and when I woke up and checked again at 8:20am the waiting room screen was there to greet me.
Don't feel bad folks, I naively stayed up at midnight thinking I'd be in with a shot! Ah, silly me. In a temporary waiting room 9 hours later, what could go wrong?
@Ralizah wait what? I thought the wolf was the main character! I am beyond disappointed at this blatant dog phobia, and I demand the internet holds Sucker Punch to account. 🐕 🥷
@Rudy_Manchego some great points made. I think with new IP, it's also okay if the first installment doesn't make a gazillion dollars (looking at you Days Gone). Some IP has promise and potential, and as long as it breaks even, it can be worth rolling the dice again on a sequel and seeing if it grows it's audience organically (people getting excited for it through word of mouth, finding the original game and loving it after initial release, etc). Too much corporate emphasis is put on insane returns right out the gate, and that's just not how some IP grows.
Games I'd genuinely like to be remastered and available on PS5 before Horizon Zero Dawn even thought about entering the chat:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3)
GTA IV (PS3)
Max Payne 3 (PS3)
Mirror's Edge (PS3)
The Orange Box (PS3)
Portal 2 (PS3)
Resistance Trilogy (PS3)
Killzone 2 (PS3)
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (PS3)
Fallout 3 (PS3)
Fallout New Vegas (PS3)
Star Wars The Force Unleashed (PS3)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
Motorstorm Trilogy (PS3)
Ratchet & Clank series (PS3)
I'm sure most people would agree, these games are worthy titles of being available within the modern PlayStation library. Two main things stand out here, they're all games locked within the PS3 ecosystem, and most of them are from third party studios / publishers... Hmm.
Nobody needs a new Xbox or PS6, jeez. Both MS and Sony need to actually utilise and give some returns on their existing machines, that aren't even being flexed fully as yet, not even close. If they release new consoles in 2-3 years time, what an absolute waste the current 'next gen' would have been. FFS, just get some actual bloody first party games out that push the hardware and give people what they bought these damn machines for in the first place. Personally, I'm planning to switch to not buying new consoles at launch, and waiting for the 'Pro' versions - seems a more sensible way to pick up the new iterations.
Anyone who "dedicated their lives" to unlocking a worthless PS trophy needs to seriously get outside and touch some grass. And probably re-evaluate their entire existence. Enjoy games as part of a balanced and healthy diet folks, don't be a fool. That trophy won't pay the bills, keep a roof over your head, feed you, furnish you with healthy relationships, or give your life purpose. If you think that it does, you've misunderstood the Play in PlayStation...
Lol. On the video game front, this looks pretty great. I've never been much of a Harry Potter fan myself, so won't be picking this up anytime soon, but as an open world game based on a beloved franchise, it looks really good and I'm happy for the fans. I'm sure they've been waiting for a gaming experience like this, and it certainly looks like the developer poured their heart and soul into crafting it. Hope everyone who bought this is enjoying it 🙂
Bless the maker! Very happy to see that options are being provided, and a performance mode with 60fps will be there. I'll be going for the higher frame rate myself - 30fps looks awful on my big TV, so I always go for the smoother performance. 1440p upscaled looks good to me, so I don't miss the higher resolution quite as much as non-juddery motion. Everyone has their preferences though, and this is why I'm glad devs this generation offer people the choice
@Th3solution What I'd like to see from Part III is a redemption and hope type of story. Like a more grown up and burned out Ellie reluctantly reconnecting with humanity after Part II's downbeat ending, where she gets the chance to finally fulfill her 'destiny' by creating a cure. Fireflies can make a return, I'd be happy for Abby to make a return (maybe her and Ellie have to work together for the greater good?) - ultimately, let Ellie have the hero ending and humanity left with hope for the future if they manage to successfully make a cure. It would kind of bring things full circle and I'd love it if they finished the story there.
The most important thing they need to do for older games like psone titles, hands down, is some kind of upscaling to ensure they don't look like a complete dogs dinner on large modern HD and 4K screens. Everything else would be nice to have, but this feature above all is the most important to me.
@ORO_ERICIUS, I did really enjoy Sniper Elite 4, but I get what you're saying and I have the same doubts. I will refrain from judegment until I see proper gameplay and reviews. If this game is basically SE4 with some token refinements, meh. But if they do something cool and new with the game / formula, I'll be interested....
@themightyant Loving the game too, but I agree about the weapons - it's just too much! I would have preferred they gave you access to a small amount, but provided a really deep upgrade path for each weapon, maybe something akin to how AC Valhalla handled it's weapon upgrades.
My only other slight gripe is the climbing mechanics. I can see what they were going for, but I'm not crazy about the yellow highlighted route stuff to scale things.
Otherwise, I'm very much enjoying my time with this game! Nice work Guerilla.
I can understand why some people got OCD about having the PS5 box, and paying extra for it. When it comes to the videogame shelf, everything has a place, and everything must be in its place! I bought it digitally, but if I was still going the physical route, I'd have wanted the PS5 box too
I was about to review bomb HFW this evening, but see I no longer need to. I'll just vent my frustration here instead.
I'm disgusted by this game and PlayStation's anti-consumer practices. I've been eagerly awaiting this title for over a year, and what do I find on launch day? It's not included in my Gamepass subscription!! No communication whatsoever about this from Sony or Guerilla Games! Enough is enough I say, when will people open their eyes to these shady business practices? We need to send a message loud and clear to these developers that when we, the gamers, expect something we bloody well better get it. They deserve these bad reviews, and it's probably a crap game anyway, full of hair mechanics and story and stuff. Peace ✌️
Enjoying the game so far. Was impressed with the tutorial opening, all done very naturally and cleverly integrated into the story. Was worth the wait for this title.
Bought the game at launch, hated it, took the refund from Sony and didn't ever expect to revisit the game. Was surprised to see the PS5 version almost appear out of nowhere, and that a free 5 hour demo was available. Tried it out, liked it a lot better this time, and decided to rebuy it at the £20 sale price. I think I did the right thing in 2020 by 'voting with my wallet' and returning the crappy PS4 version for a refund. Don't mind paying £20 in 2022 for the PS5 version, I think I'll get my money's worth this time around. Kudos to CDPR dev team for slogging away on this these past 14 months, and for reselling it at such a cheap price for its big new 'next gen' launch. Screw the CDPR execs though. Hope they learn some lessons from this for future game releases...
@Col_McCafferty It's a good point you're making, but what I find interesting is Sony's 'zen' middle ground approach. They don't want to lock things into a walled ecosystem for ever and ever (like Nintendo), but they also don't want to release things under the mantra of 'day and date' (side note, f*ck you Microsoft, I see what you're doing with Gamepass and what that means for the long term survival of quality games) like Xbox. It's almost Buddhist in its approach and I think long term, that might pay off. Finding the middle way between two disparate models? Seems like enlightened foresight to me...
I agree with some others that this game doesn't hold much interest for me, and I don't think it looks as graphically advanced as it should. No issues for those who are looking forward to GT7 I hope everyone enjoys it.
My two cents though - the graphics look barely more advanced than old PS3/PS4 entries. Track scenery looks blocky and a bit meh, there's no wow factor with some of the background buildings, foliage and crowds. I don't understand why they include some of the cool weather effects on some tracks and not others - surely they should be implemented across the entire game, it's weird. There's no car damage that I'm aware of, which is quite immersion breaking (I understand it's likely a licencing thing where manufacturers don't want their products depicted in a deformed state). There's no real sense of speed with the gameplay.
I don't know, I really loved GT back on the PSone but ever since the PS2 iterations I've just never been able to muster much interest in the series - the games seem to have barely evolved over the years and the graphics, in my opinion, look old and outdated. Each to their own though and I'm sure GT fans will find a lot of fun to be had from this entry 🙂
@WallyWest Bingo. Spot on analogy about films coming out on newer and better formats. Nothing wrong with remasters of great games, and I for one welcome them, especially now with such powerful and capable machines likes PS5 and new XBox Series. The Mass Effect legendary edition was the same price as the GTA definitive edition, and it was so worth it to revisit such as great series with shiny new 4k textures, better lighting, bug fixes, better controls and solid 60fps. Not every game needs a remaster, but for all time classics like Mass Effect trilogy, GTA trilogy, etc, I'm glad to see them get made. Would love Rockstar to remaster Red Dead Redemption next (and give us a 60fps patch for Red Dead 2!)
@Shstrick I personally preferred the combat of the earlier games. For sure the mechanics were not fancy and quite simplistic, especially by more modern standards, but I enjoyed the realism (and satisfaction) of a one hit kill as it upped the stakes and made things feel grounded. I really don't enjoy the rpg like uber health bar of enemies with number 'stats' going down with each hit, and with enemies fighting furiously when they've taken 20 odd hits to the face with a mace or sword, just breaks any realism for me. But the recent games aren't going for a realistic vibe, I get that. They're more rpg level gated stat fests like warcraft or similar - some folks love that, but its not for me.
Unity gets a very unfair ride from most of the fanbase - broken at launch, but once patched and fixed it's one of the best looking and most fun of the series. Didn't like Syndicate one bit, I found the graphics a massive step down from Unity, the city felt empty, the missions were dull and repetitive, and I hated the main character Jacob. The only redeeming feature of Syndicate for me was Evie, and I wish we'd got her as the main character without that annoying brother of hers. Enjoyed Black Flag but I never understood the mega love it gets, its just a good game to me but not the best in the series by a long shot. Very much enjoyed Origins, and loved Bayek and the strong story moments, but I got very worn out and dejected slogging through the grind that is Odyssey, and I haven't gotten to Valhalla yet as I'm still burned out. The originals (Ezio games up to 3) are my personal favourites - yes they had their issues, but they were revolutionary for the time and very enjoyable. I just feel the series as a whole lost its way after 3.
@MatthewJP I agree. Whilst I appreciate there is a dedicated audience out there for random indie games, they don't hold much interest for me and I find them pretty samey and boring (if I hear about one more rogue-like 'masterpiece' it'll be too soon). Would be nice if we got a bigger budget, more mainstream title for the PS5 game this time, but who knows TBH. What I'm more interested in is the December plus games - with Sony cosy relationship with Rockstar, a part of me dreams that they'll go all out for the holidays and give us the GTA trilogy remaster in the bundle. Unlikely I know, but a guy can hope
@KundaliniRising333 Couldn't agree more, I share the exact same feelings about these, and the same worries about the future of gaming with the disheartening trend of bloated, open world busy work live service style experiences. Sigh.
Damn I love wipeout! This seems cool, but mobile is not how I choose to play so this game unlikely to my cup of tea. Looks interesting though. I hope we get a super shiny PS5 wipeout at some point, and I'd love them to expand the game with some kinda career single player mode....

Re: With Timing Being Everything, French Union Calls on Ubisoft Workers to Strike
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Sales Top a Staggering 20 Million on PS4, PC
Re: The Last of Us Dev Naughty Dog Hiring for Three PS5, PS4 Games
My predictions:
This will allow them to release:
The cycle then continues into PS7! They'll also rebrand the company 'Naughty Druckmann'.

Re: First Impressions: Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, PS4 Looks Like the Biggest and Best Yet
Re: PS Store January Sale Refresh Adds More PS5, PS4 Discounts
Spiritfarer is only £8.99 so I took the plunge finally and bought it. Look forward to checking it out soon 🙂
Re: Fans Lament GTA Trilogy PS5, PS4 Secrecy
Re: The Original Tomb Raider Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Happy birthday to Tomb Raider. It was the game that started my love affair with PlayStation all those years ago!
Re: Best Assassin's Creed Games
Re: Best Assassin's Creed Games
Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for November 2021 Are You Hoping For?
I wouldn't say no to the Crysis remastered trilogy!
Re: Talking Point: What PS Plus Games for November 2021 Are You Hoping For?
Re: Poll: Did You Buy Far Cry 6?
@KundaliniRising333 Couldn't agree more, I share the exact same feelings about these, and the same worries about the future of gaming with the disheartening trend of bloated, open world busy work live service style experiences. Sigh.
Re: WipEout Rush Is a New Entry in Sony's Iconic Series for Smartphones in 2022
Damn I love wipeout! This seems cool, but mobile is not how I choose to play so this game unlikely to my cup of tea. Looks interesting though. I hope we get a super shiny PS5 wipeout at some point, and I'd love them to expand the game with some kinda career single player mode....
