Re: Video: I've Never Played... Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Part 1

TeslaChippie

Eeeeugh this game doesn't hold up well. I had to really push myself to get through it in the Nathan Drake collection.

I'm probably going to get banned for saying this on this site, but I feel like Tomb Raider 2013 did to the entire Uncharted series what Uncharted 2 and 3 did to Drake's Fortune: it made it seem archaic, slow, and really just tedious in my opinion. And with Rise of the Tomb Raider ripping off the best things about Uncharted and combining them with the best things about The Last of Us, I almost want to say Crystal Dynamics is beating Naughty Dog at their own game (no pun intended).

I still want to see a crossover with Nathan and Lara, and I sincerely hope UC4 is at least as fun to play as UC2, UC3 and TLoU were to watch.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Upgrade to a Supercharged PS4?

TeslaChippie

As others have said, the New 3DS was a worthwhile upgrade. Being able to enjoy the same games, but with much faster load times across the board, double the texture resolution and frame rate in supported games, and additional control options, it's like night and day compared to the old system from certain angles.

Sony's problem is that the PS4 costs twice as much as a New 3DS. It would have to be one heck of an upgrade for me to consider it.

I don't think "modular" consoles are going to be a thing until you can swap out GPUs and hard drives as easily as SD cards. Come to think of it, I'd love if my PC could do that.

Re: Feature: The Best PlayStation Soundtracks of 2015

TeslaChippie

All of the other soundtracks on this list pale, in terms of actual music composition, to Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Absolutely gorgeous themes and the presentation on the official album actually allows for their development. It works even better in game. The Witcher's soundtrack sounds good in the game, but come on guys it's really generic fantasy stuff You've heard it ten thousand times before.

Re: Feature: Why The Witcher 3's CD Projekt Red Is the Best Developer of 2015

TeslaChippie

Still trying to get into this game I won't give up on it--as soon as I opened the game case and found the map, the story primer, the DLC vouchers and the soundtrack CD I knew this was a developer I want to embrace and support. But the game does have something of a learning curve, doesn't it? I feel like I'm dying far more often than I do in most other RPGs.

Re: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Gets a Crap New Cover

TeslaChippie

@Matroska I'm judging against the Nathan Drake collection here, but even so I feel like Tomb Raider CREAMS any of the Uncharted games in terms of visuals, control and performance. The game is just phenomenal looking and playing. I'll give you that enemy AI in Tomb Raider is hilariously bland (but I don't think it was earth-shattering in Uncharted, either). I actually PREFERRED the encapsulated level design you're referring to. Took me right back to the old N64 platformers I grew up on where every area has set collectibles and goals.

Re: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Gets a Crap New Cover

TeslaChippie

So... I have a confession to make... I just recently played Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 followed by Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (actually played TR between 2 and 3) as sort of an action-adventure game binge and... TR made the biggest impression on me, by far. Like after playing it, the level design and gun mechanics in UC3 just seemed... I dunno, really horrible to be honest. The UC games have great cutscenes and decent characters, but can someone tell me why they're as beloved as they are? (For what it's worth, I didn't care for The Last of Us either. Maybe I just wasn't born to be a fan of these games, but I want to love them like everyone else so badly).

Re: Fallout 4 Patches Will Copy Skyrim's Approach on PS4

TeslaChippie

@Mookau: Settlement building is completely optional. All you're missing are quest rewards from the Minutemen questline (which only requires you to free the settlements, not maintain them) and small bonuses for making settlements happy. I for one think it's a highlight of the game though, especially after investing in Local Leader (so you don't have to tote resources from one to the next).

Re: Fallout 4 Patches Will Copy Skyrim's Approach on PS4

TeslaChippie

They better not patch Lone Wanderer >: It gives you carrying capacity and huge damage and defense bonuses if you aren't travelling with a companion, but as of writing it still applies if you have Dogmeat with you. Not sure if it's an exploit or not, but I'd love to keep my dog and my buffs :3

Re: Poll: How Well Is Fallout 4 Running on Your PS4?

TeslaChippie

I'm about 35 hours in and haven't experienced a SINGLE crash, which is insane since in the same time I had maybe 10-15 crashes in Skyrim. The only time I had to shut down was when I was fighting a deathclaw and tried to go into my Pip-Boy on what must have been the same frame I died, causing me to enter the Pip-Boy and not be able to back out.

Re: Surprise! Sony Isn't Working on First-Party Titles for PS Vita

TeslaChippie

sigh I think this one actually was Sony's fault.

Nintendo 3DS sales weren't great in the beginning, either, due to the high price and the lack of games. But instead of giving up on it, Nintendo made an aggressive price cut and STARTED MAKING GAMES for it. Now look at it, the family is routinely outselling every other console week after week in all territories. I just don't understand Sony's logic or endgame with the Vita, and I hope their odd decision making doesn't prevent them from making an awesome successor (because I'd love to someday play PS3 classics on the go).

Re: Fallout 4 Definitely Has a Chance of Outselling the Mighty Skyrim, According to Bethesda

TeslaChippie

Agree with the others. I think it's a tad optimistic, but of course it will do very well. Skyrim was a unique game from Bethesda in that it was specifically designed to expand its player base (and although it alienated part of Elder Scrolls existing player base, who I guess felt the game should have stayed esoteric and difficult for newcomers, it was a gigantic success because the new players it attracted outnumbered the hardcore fans like 5 to 1). Whereas Skyrim was an elegant simplification of Elder Scrolls, Fallout 4 feels like an elaboration of its predecessor, so I think its core concept will be harder to understand for the uninitiated.

Plus, lets face it, Fallout 4's advertising hasn't been anywhere near as epic or exciting as Skyrim's was. Do you guys remember the Skyrim reveal trailer? I still get goosebumps.

Re: Feature: Five PS4 Announcements You Should Expect at Paris Games Week

TeslaChippie

Look forward to seeing more on Dreams I recently got into Project Spark on the X1, and if it's anywhere as cool as that (and it looks as though it will be similar, just more based on creative content production and not game design) I'm sold on day one.

And if Quantic Dream reveals their new game... Best Paris Games ever! Viva la revolution! Or whatever those crazy people say over there. Viva la baguette!

Re: Microsoft: Sony's Buying Lots of Third-Party Exclusives for PS4

TeslaChippie

Funny how nobody remembers how utterly hilarious (to our loss) the PS3 launch was. The first couple years of PS3 games were full of groaners, compatibility issues and missed opportunities. I think nobody remembers how bad those times were because of how well they turned the system around--from late 2008 on, the system was a goldmine.

It will be interesting to see if Microsoft, which is in basically the same sales and compatibility situation that Sony was in this time last gen, turns it around just as fast. I think we should wait and see if it succeeds, and I think it actually will.

Re: Microsoft: Sony's Buying Lots of Third-Party Exclusives for PS4

TeslaChippie

Interesting.

I still tend to buy my multiplatform games this generation on Xbox One, for the simple reason that while they run at a lower resolution on average, they have more stable framerates (see Digital Foundry's investigation of The Witcher, Far Cry 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare), which is preferable to me.

Both consoles are killing it with first-party games throughout next year, though. It's an amazing time to be both a multi-platform owner and not a stuck up PC isolationist douche.

Re: This Licensed PS4 Controller Is for the PC Master Race

TeslaChippie

Dat intro :3

This is neat and all, but every time I hear the phrase "PC gamer" it makes me think of someone who is so devoted to defending their purchase that they refuse to entertain the thought of ever playing on any console at all, shutting themselves off from dozens of amazing games every generation :/ I'm glad I'm not that kind of PC gamer.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider Officially Announced for PS4

TeslaChippie

I'll still be buying this on the X1 and maaaybe PC a few years down the road if I can get it for like $5 in a Steam sale. I have no doubt the game will be fantastic and I want to play it as soon as possible

(Although how big of an F-you will it be when the PS4 version turns out to be running at a higher resolution and frame rate than the X1 version, as was the case with the Definitive Edition of the original?)

Re: Review: Tembo the Badass Elephant (PS4)

TeslaChippie

@hYdeks Pokemon is pretty simple. I guess at its core it's just paper-rock-scissors...

All you have to remember is that paper is strong against rock, rock is strong against scissors, and scissors are strong against paper.

And paper is weak against water, and the lightbulb is strong against the screwdriver, and the microwave does double damage to the rock, aluminum can, and scissors, or quadruple to a rock wrapped in aluminum foil. Et cetera.

Re: Guide: Getting the Most Out of DriveClub: PS Plus Edition

TeslaChippie

@get2sammyb Can you tell me if the "PS Plus" version I downloaded differs significantly from the final product? I'm seeing no antialiasing and, oddly, very little motion blur despite reading about how effective it was supposed to be. Really low resolution textures on the environments too... Just because I was taken aback by the graphics, I went back to SSX on the Xbox 360, and I gotta say you're seeing those environments from farther away, sure, but they look a whole lot better too.

At the end of the day, I strongly dislike driving sims anyway (more of a Mario Kart person myself), so this sort of thing was never going to impress me. I was just surprised at how MUCH I disliked it, and how half-baked it still looks and feels. Hopefully those who spent the $25 on the full version are getting a more polished experience.

Re: Guide: Getting the Most Out of DriveClub: PS Plus Edition

TeslaChippie

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately the game turned me off in the first several seconds of the demo :/ Also, I might be alone in thinking this, but... The graphics are hoooorrible! Come on guys, we can do better than this D: GTA V driving looked better, and it's not only an open world game but a remaster of a last-gen game!
