Re: Rumour: Multiple Parties Interested in Square Enix Buyout

TheFrenchiestFry

You know what I'm almost expecting Sony to be one of them especially after they lost Bethesda

It'll make their platform pretty much the defacto one for JRPG content in the same way Xbox has basically become that for WRPGs on consoles after Bethesda, Obsidian and InXile were all acquired by them, since a huge amount of franchises would then be out of reach for either Microsoft or Nintendo, not to mention the fact that Final Fantasy has a super storied history with them, with entries in that series appearing on almost as many Sony consoles as Nintendo's, not to mention how big stuff like Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts are for them

Ideally, Square doesn't get bought out because I buy their games on everything but I think Sony's been really thinking about it

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@Col_McCafferty And if you're still only committed to PS4 you still have the benefit of knowing your games are coming to PS4 first if they're from first party

It took Horizon like 3 years to come to PC, and then immediately after its sequel was announced just for PS4 and PS5. Days Gone was PS4 exclusive for 2 years as well. This isn't the same as how Microsoft are doing things where they basically want any and every device they have at their disposal to have some form of Xbox integration. It's still obvious that going forward if you want the first party content as immediately as possible, you still have to buy a PlayStation. The people who are willing to wait for a PC port are probably going to be waiting 2-3 or possibly more years and even then, it's just last gen games right now. You still have to buy a PS4 or PS5 for Forbidden West, or a PS5 specifically for stuff like Ratchet, Returnal and the new God of War. If PC gets the first God of War game there's no guarantee at all that they won't be waiting at the very least 5 years for another one, and by then it won't matter because Sony would likely have stopped counting sales and players on PlayStation, or they might announce a new game in a particular series that's only on PlayStation platforms. It's commitment, but it's not really dedication to PC.

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@Col_McCafferty Nintendo fans also didn't clamour when The Wonderful 101 and Octopath Traveler, formerly Nintendo-published games came out on PS4, Xbox One and PC but other people definitely threw a fit when Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U exclusive despite the fact the original was multiplatform

Nintendo is a super traditionalist company so something like PC ports is practically never to be expected from them. Sony second party games have been coming to PC for years so it was only a matter of time before they threw their hat into the ring. I think people forget PC isn't actually in direct competition with any consoles. Something like Horizon on PC isn't the same thing at all as Halo being put on PlayStation or Breath of the Wild on Xbox. PC is neutral and is bolstered by a large and super active playerbase that likewise consists of people who play on consoles as well, so some people who probably played the game on PS4 might actually buy it again on PC and it just means Sony can actually gauge the kind of content people want from them on a broader scale. I have a friend who was primarily an Xbox/PC gamer but he's going with PS5 this generation because he got Horizon on PC and he liked it. It's a test the waters thing, not necessarily a super committal thing. Sony is still in it to sell hardware and aren't as ambitious about it as Microsoft.

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@truerbluer The only PS "fans" who probably tried to pass this off as a bad thing are the same people who are probably already super biased towards their platform and won't play on anything else

I saw a Twitter video of some person who legit broke his PS4 in a fit because of Horizon's announcement on PC and apparently Herman Hulst was being sent death threats from some of those same people

Yeah. "Fans". People who actually don't dedicate their time to championing PlayStation as this super superior platform and get PTSD whenever the word "PC" is mentioned on their press stuff are probably fine with it at large. Hell Horizon on PC got one of my friends who was mostly an Xbox guy to get a PS5 when he can find one

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@Divergent95 Horizon got mediocre sales because it made all the money it needed to make to be successful on PS4. PC was just them bringing the game to a new audience as an extension to the brand before they announced the sequel, which is still PS-exclusive

Horizon came out like 3 years later and Days Gone is coming out 2 years after it did on PS4. Don't think of this as Sony wanting to actually do multiplatform stuff frequently. They ain't doing this because they think PC should be a second pillar to their business. It's likely they put these games out first because they're games that Sony probably stopped counting sales for on their original platform a while back, whereas Microsoft is literally treating PC like a second pillar to their business like how Nintendo used to have dedicated home consoles and handhelds be seperate from one another

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@Kratos-sensei

Oooh what a protester we have have here. Such a rebel with a cause because a game's being ported after Sony basically stopped caring how much it made on PS4

Are we getting some #PlayStationLivesMatter rallies now

Are we going from #BLM to #PLM here

Are you boutta enforce the "PlayStation Proclamation" and free us from our PC sins

Re: Days Gone Is Still a Stunner in PC Features Trailer

TheFrenchiestFry

@Juanalf Steam and EGS aren't in direct competition with any consoles. The only people in direct competition with each other are console manufacturers. PC's already gotten a bunch of second party Sony content even before Sony started putting their first party games on there

Putting it on Game Pass for PC isn't benefitting Steam, it's benefitting Microsoft

Re: Naughty Dog Wishes It Was Working on New Jak & Daxter Game

TheFrenchiestFry

@naruball I don't know where you got the impression Tekken 7 did badly at all. It broke 2 million copies within 2 months of its release

SFV deservedly got the flack it did for being super content barren and lacking in the single player department at release. It took multiple years and seasons of characters and updates for it to get to where it should've been at launch

Re: Naughty Dog Wishes It Was Working on New Jak & Daxter Game

TheFrenchiestFry

@naruball When they come they definitely do sell well in the case of stuff like Crash N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited, the Mario 3D All Stars collection and smaller stuff like Ori & Cuphead, but it's just that there aren't a lot of them these days compared to the 90's and 2000's

Ratchet & Clank is probably going to do well when it comes out though, especially given the reception to the PS4 game

Re: Nintendo Wii Exclusive Sonic Colors Could Be Lighting Up PS4

TheFrenchiestFry

@Ristar24 Nintendo did have an exclusivity deal. They signed off on SEGA making their next few Sonic games exclusive to their hardware from 2013-2014

The games that were part of that deal were Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, and the two Sonic Boom games that came out to tie in with the TV show. All those games were exclusive to either the 3DS, the Wii U or both

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Think Sony's Obsession with PS5 Blockbusters Aligns with Reality

TheFrenchiestFry

The problem is there's not really much in the way of communication. Sony definitely needs to do a better job at being transparent about what's going on, since when they don't do that stuff like the Bloomberg article is seemingly putting the words in other people's mouth and it just paints a bad look on them when things are probably supposed to be a lot better than they seem.

I am still bummed about Japan Studio though. They may not have made a lot of major hits that clicked with the mainstream but their games added a lot of variety to the types of games in the PlayStation library

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

TheFrenchiestFry

@JustPlainLoco I don't think a thing like a Game Pass alternative or something that allowed people to sample games would give developers an incentive to just give up on making quality software

The precise reason why people like Game Pass is BECAUSE of the fact they get to subscribe to a service and get access to a treasure trove of high profile stuff that isn't held back by a standalone high price tag. It's why Microsoft have been successful with courting people like SEGA and Square in regards to putting their stuff on Game Pass the same time they just launch on Xbox like with Yakuza, Final Fantasy and Octopath Traveler, as well as what landed them the timed exclusivity deal on PSO2 New Genesis, and none of those games are shovelware-tier quality, which is why it looks like a valuable proposition next to paying full price for a standalone game as opposed to getting it on Game Pass day one

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

TheFrenchiestFry

@JustPlainLoco Listen man I know these games are probably well worth their time and money but if you're seriously expecting me to be prepared consistently fork out 90 of my Canadian dollars every time an exclusive or just a game comes out on their platform you're GRAVELY mistaken

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

TheFrenchiestFry

@jgrangervikings1 I think Minecraft is probably going to remain multiplat for the foreseeable future seeing as how it's basically transcended its company and become a major monolith in terms of multimedia success, but Microsoft pulled out more cash for Bethesda than Disney did for Marvel and Lucasfilm combined, and are clearly doing it with intent of strengthening their exclusive portfolio, and even more importantly the value behind Game Pass and their interconnected ecosystem, so stuff like Starfield and possibly even Elder Scrolls VI are definitely being positioned as major first party content from them going forward, and it's not as likely they'll be multiplatform

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

TheFrenchiestFry

They aren't on the losing end right now but if they keep up with the attitude they have right now they could very well be trailing behind Microsoft in a few years.

I'm not going to call it doom and gloom for Sony because what's out there right now is compelling as hell and what's coming down the line is also something worth getting excited over, but the software is pretty much the only leg up Sony has right now despite the fact their console is doing better in terms of units sold and all that stuff

It feels like Sony's becoming progressively conservative with what studios and IPs they prioritize, thinking if they can play it safe and just use the exact IPs that made the PS4 successful, the PS5 will just be a direct repeat of the PS4's wide acclaim, and the Bloomberg article put a lot of stuff into perspective like why they closed down Japan Studio or why they're shutting down the digital stores on pre-PS4 consoles. They seem to want to play it extremely safe and the points that Schrier mentioned where they had studios willing to become more autonomous and lead their own major projects, were quickly shut down or failed to even get off the ground in the case of Bend Studio pitching Days Gone 2.

Between stuff like MLB going to Game Pass and now the persistent rumors about Kojima Productions courting Xbox for their next game, Sony really needs to pull out their trump cards if they have them because even if they're safe for now technically, Microsoft is getting extremely aggressive and are seemingly doing all the opposite things to get on the consumer's side compared to where they were this time 7 years ago, and it's even more telling when I see people saying they're switching to Xbox this gen when unlike Sony, Microsoft doesn't even have much in the way of exclusive content out there yet and are mostly relying on Game Pass/xCloud to carry their momentum while hoping Halo Infinite does well when it does come out

Re: PlayStation Fans Are Missing Shawn Layden, And He's Liking All the Tweets

TheFrenchiestFry

Jim Ryan might be a fine businessman but he isn't really a likable face for the company in the same way Shawn Layden or Andrew House were

I honestly kind of feel the same about Doug Bowser in regards to Nintendo. You may have your thoughts on Xbox as a platform or their strategy but one thing that I think they're particularly strong in is that Phil Spencer genuinely seems passionate about the medium in the same way Layden, House and even Reggie and Iwata were. PlayStation right now is missing that kind of image imo

Re: Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima Movies Will Stream on Netflix After Theatrical Run

TheFrenchiestFry

@Col_McCafferty Probably not TLOU since that's an HBO thing

These are just for theatrical releases or films that go straight to streaming

So basically the already announced movies like Spider-Man No Way Home, the Spider-Verse sequel, Venom, Morbius and whatever else Sony releases in theaters, while the films they develop specficially for streaming are going straight to Netflix

I imagine TLOU HBO will probably end up on HBO Max as expected given it's a TV series and doesn't fit that criteria

Re: Sony Suggests MLB Made the Decision to Include MLB The Show 21 on Xbox Game Pass

TheFrenchiestFry

@art_of_the_kill The fact that MLB is going to Xbox is like problem #12 with Sony

Sony definitely has way bigger problems in regards to their transparency with consumers and their practices outside of something like a baseball game going multiplatform. I personally care way more about stuff like the pre-PS4 digital stores closing down or stuff like what happened with Japan Studio since they're honestly way bigger deals that do more to communicate Sony's image this gen than something like this

If this was something like God of War coming to Xbox or something then perhaps I'd be more fussed, but Sony wouldn't do that because they actually own the IP and control where it goes, unlike what's happening here. They aren't even publishing the game on Xbox and they'll probably still get a cut from all revenue made from that version of the game since they developed it.

Re: Sony Suggests MLB Made the Decision to Include MLB The Show 21 on Xbox Game Pass

TheFrenchiestFry

Maybe it's because I don't really care about sports games in general but I could honestly not care less about this coming to Xbox at all

If that's what the MLB wanted, then clearly it'll do nothing but give the game more exposure. It's not like Sony themselves are going to put stuff like God of War or Horizon on Xbox that they actually have control over so it's literally just one less exclusive game

Hell there was an exclusive Wipeout game for the N64 that came out after Psygnosis was already acquired by SCE so it's not the first time something this big has happened. An IP that SCE had full ownership over literally started as a multiplatform series before becoming fully PlayStation exclusive. Stranger things have happened
