Re: Bethesda Says 'Some' Future Games Won't Launch on PS5, PS4

TheFrenchiestFry

I imagine things in established franchises like Elder Scrolls VI and Wolfenstein III will still show up on PlayStation but I can totally see them positioning stuff like Starfield and Indiana Jones as just new IPs for Xbox and treat them like they're first party

I imagine what's happening right now is transitional period for Bethesda since they still have some exclusive PS5 stuff to release, but after TESVI comes out I think they would've fully transitioned to just making Xbox/PC games

Re: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster Rated in US, Western Release Date Could Be Incoming

TheFrenchiestFry

@NEStalgia I find it funny people are screaming "port SMT to PlayStation" when there was an entire era for the series where most of the notable games were PlayStation exclusives like Nocturne, Persona 3 & 4, the Digital Devil Saga duology and the Raidou series

It was only when the DS rolled around that the series slowly started coming back to Nintendo and then Strange Journey was the first main entry since I think SMT If to debut exclusively on Nintendo consoles

I've personally always preferred mainline and several MegaTen series like Devil Survivor to Persona so I'd definitely double dip if those came to more platforms

Re: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster Rated in US, Western Release Date Could Be Incoming

TheFrenchiestFry

@clvr Yes SMT's Japanese name does translate to "True Reincarnation of the Goddess" in reference to the fact that the Heroine character in the first game who accompanies you (the protagonist) is a reincarnation of the goddess Izanami

The series was initially based on a series of Japanese light novels about a computer prodigy who summoned demons into the world due to exhibiting sociopathic behaviour as a result of being under the influence of the trickster god Loki

Re: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster Rated in US, Western Release Date Could Be Incoming

TheFrenchiestFry

@LordSteev Yes Shin Megami Tensei and Persona's battle systems share a lot of similiarities, including similar spells and a traditional turn based system

Nocturne in particular however eschews the 1 More mechanic from Persona in favor of the Press Turn system which is similar in concept but also has different requirements for extending the amount of turns you have to issue commands unlike the 1 More mechanic due to how they're consumed over the corse of a battle

Re: All PlayStation Studios Games on PC

TheFrenchiestFry

@JohnKarnes Diablo's a pretty big one I'm pretty sure. DOOM's another big example even though by that point it had been ported to numerous consoles. There's also Half-Life, Portal 2, Deus Ex, UFO Enemy Unknown, the first two Baldur's Gate games, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2, there's tons of examples

There are also still a bunch of Windows-exclusive games even today, it's just that multiplats are just a lot more commonplace

Re: All PlayStation Studios Games on PC

TheFrenchiestFry

For other PlayStation PC games you should add Nioh and Nioh 2

They were published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on PS4/PS5 but are published by Koei Tecmo themselves on Steam

One day this list will have Bloodborne & Spider-Man...one day

Re: So, Square Enix Is Making Another Final Fantasy VII Remake Called Ever Crisis... On Mobile

TheFrenchiestFry

@ShogunRok The only thing I'm seeing that actually looks ripped straight from Remake are the battle animations, but the backgrounds almost look demade in a pre-rendered style that more closely resembles the original PS1 game. The character models were redone to better resemble the Remake character models but they're still very much kept in that stouter style that the original polygonal models were presented in while being updated and cleaned up just enough to look modern, which I imagine is something that the Remake team might be supervising on but not necessarily directly involved with the creation on

I imagine Ever Crisis will probably have something to tie it in with the new continuity as some sort of endgame content but I think we can assume at most they might have some key staffers like Nomura or even Hamaguchi and Nojima supervising and advising for, but the dev team will be completely independent. The character portrait art for the speech bubbles also does not at all resemble Nomura art

Re: So, Square Enix Is Making Another Final Fantasy VII Remake Called Ever Crisis... On Mobile

TheFrenchiestFry

@ShogunRok I have a feeling a completely different team is handling this particular project as well as that other mobile BR game that got announced. Since it seems it's covering just the original FFVII continuity and nothing explicitly from Remake's canon, it might not even inform let alone influence what the Remake team are doing

Although that ending with Zack facing the soldiers on the train to Midgar looks completely new to me if I'm not mistaken

Re: So, Square Enix Is Making Another Final Fantasy VII Remake Called Ever Crisis... On Mobile

TheFrenchiestFry

@AdamNovice Honestly I'm really excited for this

It looks like more than just a better looking FFVII, it's basically covering the entire chronology and looks like a super convenient way for newcomers to get up to speed on everything FFVII related in anticipation for what Remake will do differently

Hell it might actually make Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus tolerable experiences for once

Re: Sony Japan Studio Winding Down Internal Development Efforts, Says New Report

TheFrenchiestFry

I guess the future of Japanese games for the most part on PlayStation is probably going to be moneyhatting as many big name Japanese games like Final Fantasy as possible

Kinda sucks. There's a treasure trove of IPs in the PlayStation vault I'd love for them to use again like Ape Escape, PaRappa and LocoRoco that were developed by those guys. I would've loved to see a new Gravity Rush

Re: Two More Sony Japan Studio Devs Depart at the End of This Month

TheFrenchiestFry

@Total_Weirdo They also created Gravity Rush, co-developed Demon's Souls with FromSoftware, and also co-developed all of Team Ico's games (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus & The Last Guardian)

They also did games like Patapon & LocoRoco (which is extremely underrated imo) and also created the Ape Escape series in addition to working on stuff like Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars (aka the last worthwhile PSVita exclusive now that Persona 4 Golden is on PC)

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Expect from This Week's State of Play?

TheFrenchiestFry

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Sony concedes to Nintendo regarding which game is the better party fighter and puts Big Daddy, Sackboy, Ratchet & Clank and a Helghast Soldier into Smash Ultimate

Spider-Man: No Way Home is actually the title of the PS4 Spider-Man game's sequel and involves Peter educating the player on the importance of wearing a mask during COVID

PS5 Pro will be announced and it will look like a full on school binder with a disc drive

The PS4 is coming to PC. Not the games, the entire console

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

TheFrenchiestFry

@Col_McCafferty The difference with this and Nintendo is that Nintendo is first and foremost a GAMING company only

They solely rely on their dedicated hardware and the software for that hardware to stay financially afloat

They may be in a position where they could probably do something like Mario or Zelda on PC but they choose not to because the gaming consoles are their sole business, it's what money goes into developing, it's where their games show up, and it's where they generate their revenue

Sony and Microsoft both aren't just PlayStation and Xbox. They don't really live and die by their console business like Nintendo does. Microsoft is probably in a much better position financially to pull something like integrating PC into the Xbox space off, but Sony is likewise, not just PlayStation. Their core audience will stay even if they've chosen to branch out to a newer audience. Odds are they already have the audience for the PS5 sorted out, because they're mostly PlayStation fans, so branching out to PC to look for a new audience considering that platform isn't in direct competition with anyone is going to benefit them a lot

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

TheFrenchiestFry

@Col_McCafferty Considering Forbidden West likely shared development time with the PC port of the first game I'm pretty sure there's absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to Sony's PC output affecting their time spent on new games

And for that second one that's even assuming they are planning a sequel to Days Gone. It might be a one off thing or maybe if the PC version does well all that money will be put towards making a second game since now they're convinced it could live on as a series

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

TheFrenchiestFry

@Octane As it looks like right now the games making it to PC so far are just PS4 titles. If anything I don't see the other outcome happening because positioning PC releases of their PS4 library ahead of potential new games or to gauge interest in them is actually a pretty smart move from a marketing perspective

Like release a first party game for PC some years down the line after its enjoyed success on PlayStation and accumulated enough sales in that department, the PC people buy into that game, and more support for that series just comes out of it showing that more people are getting interested in what else PlayStation has to offer as a platform, and that could potentially further drive those PC-only people to dip their toes into more of Sony's dedicated hardware and games in the future

It's a win win for PC people interested in PlayStation, as well as giving the games more exposure. I don't see this ending in people just deciding they don't want a PS5 because they'd rather wait like 6 years into the future for a PC port

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

TheFrenchiestFry

It's great. Don't understand what the hubbub is about regarding "muh exclusivity"

Like yeah exclusivity is cool and as far as consoles are concerned they're still technically exclusives, but releasing the PS4 back catalogue this way and selling the PlayStation brand to the PC audience will only help Sony gain a larger audience of people in the lead up to PS5s being more readily available worldwide

It was actually pretty smart of them to release Horizon on PC like right before announcing Forbidden West at the PS5 June Showcase last year

Now bring Bloodborne and Spider-Man please. I will double dip on the former and triple dip on the latter thank you very much

Plus, and I don't think people realize this but Horizon and Death Stranding aren't even technically the first Sony-published games to make it to PC anyway so this has been a thing for years (Nioh & Nioh 2)

Re: Action Comedy Twisted Metal Television Show Officially in Production

TheFrenchiestFry

@nessisonett Deadpool 2 I thought tried a lot harder to dig deeper into the more depressing aspects of the character

I feel like the mainstream only sees him as a joke character given how upbeat and comical he's depicted in stuff like the video game and to a lesser extent the first movie, but DP2 honored the fact that he basically uses humor to deflect about his personal insecurities and that he's actually a broken as hell person on the inside who just tries to make fun out of grim situations while trying to come off as sincere due to his predicament

There's even an entire montage in the film where he conducts numerous suicide attempts which is like one of the core aspects of the character I think a lot of people who don't read the comics aren't necessarily familiar with

Re: We May Learn What the Future Holds for Bethesda Next Month

TheFrenchiestFry

I'm expecting TESVI to be a timed Xbox/PC only game with Day 1 on Game Pass but Starfield I can definitely see being a full exclusive given it's a new IP and Microsoft would likely want to flaunt that as part of their Xbox lineup of exclusives

Same with Indiana Jones given I think this could be Xbox's answer to PlayStation securing exclusivity with Spider-Man games (another huge Disney IP)
