if the number of operations is big enough, that might tip me towards getting it sooner rather than later just for the campaign. CoD MP doesn't do much for me.
@manu0 - windows 7 to windows 10 is not an improvement. when PS4 and XB1 moved to x86, i'm not sure what else you expected - it was obvious newer generation versions would be quite "like upgrading a PC". significant boosts in GPU and CPU power, as well as advances in reduced power consumption, offer advantages that PS4 doesn't have.
you're going to have serious egg-on-face if XB2 turns out to be a PS5-lite. but since you've trolled every PS5 article so far, i'm kind of surprised that robert or sammy, or whoever hasn't banned you yet, since you've consistently broken at least two of the community rules.
i can't imagine too many people would interested in paying for the same game again. unless it's planning to boost its first party launch line up with 'enhanced' versions of some of its PS4 games - and if you own the PS4 disc already it will act as a launcher and let you download a PS5 version of the game. GTsport makes sense as it as an online focus. polyphony getting a GT7 ready in the 3 years between GTsport and PS5 seems incredibly unlikely.
@manu0 - there are some PS4 games already that let you choose whether to download the multiplayer or campaign, first. it's not unique to xb1, so what's your point?. no model of xbox has ever had an SSD drive as standard. both PS3 and PS4 have allowed you to replace the internal drive - with an SSD if you chose. PS5 is making it standard, and with a custom design that makes it faster than nornal SSDs.
i can't see them announcing any prices til at least next summer, since they'll need to see how trump's trade war with china pans out and whether electronics like consoles will face high tariffs, and to see how the already troubled sterling pans out after brexit. i'll be very surprised if they can get an RRP under £500.
i'm assuming it's mostly for the capacity reasons. although only RDR2 and TLoU2 have needed two blu-ray discs so far, i'd expect AAA games to be regularly more than 50Gb on PS5. wonder what sales for 4k discs are like in the rest of the world, because it's rather insignificant in the UK.
might pick it up tomorrow, not sure. i usually like to support sony's smaller projects/studios if it's a decent game, as i have enjoyed stuff like rain and puppeteer on PS3, and niche arty stuff like the last guardian and shadow of the colossus, but i'm still just not quite feeling it for concrete genie, though it is averaging high 70s on metacritic, which is positive.
@TheArt - nothing's stopping them, they just don't. if those xbox games weren't given away free, they'd be nowhere the top ten. GoW was the second biggest selling exclusive game in the UK for 2018, after Spiderman. its market reach is probably close to as far as it'll go.
i've never had a facebook account, so i'll not lose any sleep over it. in fact, i think it's great news. it'll not affect xbox users, since microsoft is almost as big a privacy abuser as facebook.
i can honestly see the horizon zero dawn sequel having a multiplayer component that resembles something like MHW. with the hunter's lodge already established within the lore of the game, i can see it being expanded into a social area where hunters gather to take on legendary quests - depending on whether they can design enough unique dino-beasts to make it feel worthwhile, rather than just having a tougher redmaw or whatever to hunt down.
quality over quantity - though what i've seen of this, it doesn't like quality either. i just can't play ubisoft games anymore as they're typically 12-hour games wrapped up in 50-hours of tedious filler (that and they've pretty much stripped all of their IPs of identity by ubisofting them to death).
@TheArt - not really, i think GoW has pretty much reached saturation point in the UK as far as its sales go. without a significant price drop, or sony giving it away free with every PS4, its not really that likely to see much sales pick up. sea of thieves, minecraft and FH3 are all included in the XB1s bundle for £170 - even if only a few thousand xboxs are sold, that's enough for those titles to be top 10. if the PS4 and switch versions of minecraft were included, it would actually be number 3 overall, above borderlands.
to be honest i didn't even realise it was just an ad, i thought it was an actual app because it appeared on the dashboard, and i removed it just like any other app.
i'd assume this means a more significant jump in CPU power - in raw processing terms, the jaguar CPU in the PS4 barely outperforms the PS3's cell (and in some tasks doesn't even do that).
@Dodoo - not really, total number of copies FIFA sold on PS4, is more than all xbox game sales combined including FIFA. FIFA's accounting for more ~75% of all boxed game sales last week.
haven't bought a game since may 2018, so i'm maybe overdue - maybe Trine 4 and/or Concrete Genie (if it reviews well), otherwise it's probably another barren month. not sure about CoD - i played the beta, and although the weapons feel satisfying to shoot, and possibly the best CoD has had, most of the irritating things (about its multiplayer) are still there in abundance, and it was all very grey looking and felt quite recycled. not sure i want to spend £45 for the campaign - they're usually quite serviceable, and a fun few hours, but they don't last long, and are usually forgotten soon after finishing. as for outer worlds — though the setting looks interesting, i don't actually like fallout games (including vegas), and there are reports from previews that the performance can be a bit ropey.
i'm missing the Firefly/Hunter mp trophies, and the Survivor difficulty trophies. i would try to get as many of the upgrades as possible for joel and the weapons during the first playthrough, it will make the last few chapters of the game more forgiving if you mess up a stealth approach.
the decline in FIFA sales was fairly small from 2018 - i'm still unconvinced that huge volumes of the UK public would rather buy it for £60 on digital stores than £45 at retail (or £50 if you're lazy and go to game). what's more concerning is the fact that the total number of games sold (including FIFA) is less than FIFA alone managed just a couple of years ago - pretty much everything else sold not that much.
impressive range of options, but the re-map controller configuration didn't actually work that well in my experience - i spent 20 minutes just trying to change R1/R2 and L1/L2 round, in the end i had to give up and do it through the console settings.
the UI/menus are horrific. i spent about 20 minutes in the customise controls section trying to change aim/shoot to R1/L1 before giving up because it kept complaining about something or other. in the end i had to re-map the buttons in the console settings.
@LemonHaze - i haven't played odyssey. on this, i chose the graphical fidelity option rather than the resolution option. it looks pretty good, but not the best thing i've seen on PS4.
i tried it, performance wise it was ok, and it looks pretty good. but three hours in and I'm already bored off my a*se. it's ubisoft's tedious formula that just sucks the fun out of practically everything they publish these days.
personally, on the sony front, i'm kind of hoping guerrilla games gets its multiplayer groove back, and has something cooking for PS5, whether it's killzone related or not. it really dropped the ball with shadowfall imo, after it had the perfect base with KZ2/3 to deliver something special in regards to multiplayer. that M82 in KZ3 is still the pinnacle of gaming assault rifles, imo. i had 35K kills with just that one gun!
@GodGamer - i only looked at the PS4 numbers. too low for what?. destiny 2's got a player base of about a million, and is still cracking along. that 10% is the number who played it long enough to reach the trophy requirements, not the number who actually played factions.
i enjoyed factions on PS4, in fact i might even go back and give it another go when it comes to ps+ if there's a new influx of players, and not just a hardcore group that have been playing it solidly for 5 years.
not sure how i feel about it being its own thing though, inevitably if a game is online only focused these days, there is some kind of GaaS mechanic involved to keep revenue coming in, even if it's not lootboxes. i miss the days when multiplayer used to be just multiplayer with no BS, and you'd maybe get the occassional map pack if the game was popular.
wouldn't worry about it taking resources away from ND's traditional single player games - sounds like they're building their own team and set of resources for multiplayer, which seems like a solid strategy. even CoD's main studios outsources some of its mp development, eg: both beenox and high moon have developed parts of the latest game, rather than stretch all of IWs resources thin.
@Tarvold49 - no, people who b*tch and whine about it, then buy it anyway are part of the problem. microsoft and square enix kept rise of the tomb raider from PS4 for a whole year, simply because MS was flailing around for anything to help compete with PS4. the decision was made, and square enix lost at least one sale when it eventually did come out. mine.
people will buy them anyway. millions will be pumped into the MTXs. therefore there is no incentive on publishers to do away with exclusivity deals or lootboxes.
i get the feeling pre-orders (at least for physical editions) for this isn't that great. two online retailers have sent me 'special discount codes' to get it cheaper. shopto's for gold/silver members takes a chunk off their previous price, making it a 1/3 less than buying it on psn.
i enjoyed the multiplayer on PS4 version of TLoU, won't know if i miss it or not til after i've played TLoU2. they could have added the MP from the original into TLoU2 - much like they did with Uncharted: Lost Legacy which doesn't have its own multiplayer but shares UC4's.
meh, microsoft made a huge deal about having timed exclusivity on modern warfare 2 and 3 map packs (and it didn't seem to bother IW much back then), so i doubt you'll see that many PS4 owners crying a river for xbox players. if it's that important, buy the ps4 version, or don't buy it.
these deals are obviously to incentivise people to pick one version over another. sony obviously would still prefer people to buy the PS4 version, and maybe it got some sales from XB/PC players who double dipped in the past, that wouldn't now buy the PS4 version because they could just play with PS4 friends anyway.
@DeepSpace5D - if it's as big as you think, then i would read that "Play First on PS4 - Timed Exclusive Content Until 1st October 2020" as maps/content for spec-ops survival will come first to PS4 until that time (the same way as zombie maps have done for previous games), after which content could be released on all platforms at the same time (though it's unlikely to have new content after that point) and not that the entire thing is locked out til then.
@DeepSpace5D - maybe, but i am kind of expecting spec-ops to be something similar to the variety of short co-op missions similar to MW2, probably re-using a lot of the assets from the campaign. i wouldn't expect survival mode to be the major non-competitive mode. it'd be the equivalent to having the zombies mode only on PS4, not even activision is that stupid.
i imagine this is probably a single mission type within the spec-ops, that maybe has one or two maps/levels at most. it won't be that substantial.. it's a bit like the exclusive strikes on destiny which were for a year.
if people on other platforms don't like it, they should vote with their wallets. the practice unfortunately won't stop til companies start feeling it. i don't buy dlc for PS4 games if it comes a month or whatever after other platforms. if everyone did the same...
H:ZD is the best for me also. i've only played 4 of the ten (GoW, HZD, U4, I:SS). uncharted 4 in 4th place is a bit of surprise, considering last figures released for it suggested 16.3m sales worldwide. infamous in 7th place is an even bigger surprise though.. that came out in 2014, when the number of PS4s wouldn't have been that high. it's not even that good.. i thought the PS3 infamous games were much better.
wouldn't mind the special edition, but i managed to pre-order ages ago (before any editions were even announced) for £39, and i don't think i'll be able to get a price that low again before release.
@jdv95 - joel had a daughter around 12 years old, and the events in the original game are 20 years after that. about 5 years have passed since the end of TLoU, so joel would likely be at least in his late 50s if not older - and it's not as if he's been coasting retirement binging on netflix, and getting a regular 5-a-day of fresh fruit and veg.
it'll take no more time to install from disc as it will from the download version. disc all the way for me.. it'll be a lot quicker than potentially downloading up to 100gb. plus, i already have it pre-ordered for £39.
@PSbest - dunno, maybe canada uses metric system and mm/dd/yy format? almost all of europe uses dd/mm/yyyy - if you watch an english language movie in europe and its subtitled in the local language, references to say for example 9/11 are almost always reversed in the subs to show its 11th september.
@BridgeToClarity @R1spam - i finished two playthroughs and got 58% of the trophies i think - there's a trick (not sure if they patched it out or not) to start new game+ on a higher difficulty from the first playthrough to get 4 trophies instead of 2.
the problem for me with MLB:The show is nothing to do with the quality of the game, it's just that i don't like baseball in real life (though preferable to american football). i actually fell asleep at a live game in the US when i was there on a trip as a grad student.
i would imagine that anybody who was vaguely interested in TLoU would have played it already.. it's sold, what?, 18m copies or something across PS3/4 and not counting PSNow rentals.
would be curious to know if it will bring a fresh influx of players to the factions multiplayer.. might be worth booting up again for that if does. i did enjoy it for a while when it first came out on PS4. liked it much better on PS4 than i did on PS3.

the problem for me with MLB:The show is nothing to do with the quality of the game, it's just that i don't like baseball in real life (though preferable to american football). i actually fell asleep at a live game in the US when i was there on a trip as a grad student.

i would imagine that anybody who was vaguely interested in TLoU would have played it already.. it's sold, what?, 18m copies or something across PS3/4 and not counting PSNow rentals.
would be curious to know if it will bring a fresh influx of players to the factions multiplayer.. might be worth booting up again for that if does. i did enjoy it for a while when it first came out on PS4. liked it much better on PS4 than i did on PS3.
