didn't finish the volga level - the game was literally making me feel naseous, like the worst motion sickness.. movement felt really heavy, like walking through treacle with boots filled with cement. couldn't play it any more, and it wasn't gripping me enough to persevere with it. the 4-5 minute load times didn't help. it's still on my external hdd now attached to my PS5, but honestly don't know if i could be bothered to see if 60fps makes it that much more playably smooth.
@ScottyG - the season 1 update to cold war before christmas caused a stuttering framerate bug on the PS5 version — i found it to be close to unplayable.. it was fixed in the new year, it plays for me without any drops that i can notice (though i am playing at 1080p/60fps).
@ORO_ERICIUS - imagine the saving to the planet if publishers were forced to ensure their games actually worked properly on release, rather than printing broken garbage onto disc and then releasing 20 massive patches for millions to download.. .
as someone who has a large collection of CDs, i'd have to say that cardboard is not an answer.. i have digipacks with cardboard packaging that have fallen apart, even without very much handling. there are recycleable plastics, and durable alternatives..
and all the 'go-digital' martyrs are deluding themselves.. music has shifted much more online, particularly streaming, than games, and carbon emissions from music have never been higher. spotify and all its alternatives are currently more environmentally unfriendly than CDs ever were - and until major world economies can be produce efficient, clean energy in substantial quantities, to radically cut back emissions from energy consumption, it's not likely to change.
regardless of the politics of the iraq war, i have my doubts that any game will recreate an authentic experience of those on the frontlines - i can't say that's something i'd really like to get a genuine feel for firsthand, and there is always gonna be that videogame disconnect no matter how respectful the intentions.
ratchet and clank on PS4 was £29.99 at release, not £39.99 - i checked my invoice and i got it for £26.. even allowing for the fact that the rift apart can be found closer to 60 than 70 on disc, it's still more than a 100% increase - not all of which can be justified by the fact it's a new game and not just a remake. i got a good 30+ hours with multiple playthroughs for the platinum out of the last one, so i'll probably bear the cost.. i'm fortunate enough to be able afford it, and aside from household bills it's not like i have much else to spend money on at the minute (and it doesn't look like that's gonna change in the short term), but i doubt sony is going to reach much of a target audience at that price for R&C to be honest, no matter how good it is.
retailers don't seem to be able to offer the same kind of £10-£15 discounts that they can on PS4 games.. maybe it's difficult to negotiate them with publishers at the minute, or they don't want to commit to larger orders to get better deals.. especially with PS5 shortages curbing the install base.
apart from character models and faces (some of them not 'improved' for the better imo), i'm struggling to see significant differences never mind 'steps forward'. this looks like small levels of improvement, better-AA smoothing out a few rough edges etc, that would be pretty much guaranteed with hardware way more powerful than 2007-11 even with minimal effort.
no issues for me. not sure i'd even notice drift anyway to be honest, i'd more inclined to assume it's my terrible aim.
my 2013 PS4 controller has also had no issues (well one of them, the other did not come off too well with a wall encounter). still using the original dualshock 4 i got with PS4 pro as well.
i didn't play this until about 2009, and even then it felt a bit archaic.. it would need a complete overhaul and remake to modernise it for current standards. i'd rather see a combined Killzone 2/3 multiplayer remaster.. or something like MAG but within the Killzone universe with guerrilla's level of polish. MAG was great in concept and ambition, but exceedingly average in execution — the shooting was exceptionally bad, imo, which is a fatal flaw for an FPS. by contrast, Killzone usually excels in execution and the shooting (particularly in KZ3) is excellent.
even though i don't like racing games, i'd probably pick drive club from the list for a 60fps framerate boost. even for a title released early in PS4, it's always looked fairly impressive to me. i'm sure last of us 2 would be fairly slick at 60fps but having played through it twice for platinum, I've no desire to ever play the campaign again.. i'll wait to see how the alleged multiplayer mode turns out.
maybe it's just me but i thought the "new ending patch" for ME was a complete waste of time, and they really shouldn't have bothered. it didn't alter the outcome, nor make it so that all your choices didn't still come down to a colour choice. it was only enhanced in that it had a some more cutscenes to try and explain the endings - lack of closure and plot holes remain. the ending was sloppy and badly told - i let it go.. bioware probably should have done the same, rather than trying to appease the "remake the ending" crowd..
@LiamCroft @Hyperluminal - i didn't think it was serious. anybody who wanted to make the negative point wouldn't have gone to half the trouble to be an ar*e about it..
slightly more disappointing is that it's still using unreal engine 3, which does feel like a bit of a relic at this point. spruced up graphics and a few gameplay tweaks will struggle to hide its age, i think.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L - the queen valkyrie is the one trophy i'm missing for the platinum.. even lowering the difficulty to easy, i was barely able to get more than a quarter of her health off.. after more than an hour of frustration, it got uninstalled.
battlefield 3 was mediocre imo, 4 was miles better (after about 6 months of patches).. neither are in the same league as bad company 1 or 2. "return to all-out military warfare" does not suggest any likely possibility that it'll be bad company 3.
no problem for me, i have 390gb free on my PS5 at present. though since 28gb is not a quick download for me, i am debating whether to bother trying it out.. since there's a high chance i'll hate it and delete it after 15 minutes. because vehicles.
whether forced to or not, i do wonder what would have happened if sony had said f*** it.. we're not doing multiplatform development. the MLB would have had to find a different developer, most likely starting from scratch.. with a strong possibility that the product could look a lot less favourable in comparison to the sony published games. a poor game is unlikely to sell as many even if it is on more platforms.
this has been happening for weeks. something at the back end must have gone wrong, though it's not the only buggy issue with the games list.
every time i turn on the PS5 i seem to get different random games on my list, sometimes with platinum trophies. i've never played overwatch, but it showed the platinum trophy for me - if i click on it, it shows the list for a completely different game. or sometimes it can't seem to work it out, and just shows the entire trophies game list. if i compare games with a friend, it sometimes shows a mutual game that neither of us have played. collections with multiple games, such as the drake collection, does not show correctly - so i can only see uncharted 1, but not 2 or 3 (2 nor 3 show up in the trophy lists either). same for borderlands collection. it often shows the same game multiple times — occassionally this might be an alpha, a beta, and the full game (like destiny) but the PS4 distinguishes these, the PS5 does not - they all look and are named exactly the same.
i think it'll be later than september. imo, at least two of GT7, horizon forbidden west end GoW ragnarok will not release this year so R&C will be pushed out to plug a gap in the autumn.
given AMD have already said they expect supply of their chips to be constrained for at least the first half of 2021, i don't expect retail surplus to exist anytime soon. year one might as well be considered PS5 early access.
@Voltan - as far i can remember, it wasn't ever possible to claim the vita's PS+ games from the PS4, so it's not really that different. generally nothing PS5 related shows up on PS4. you can't see trophies earned for PS5 games, or even what PS5 games you or any of your friends have played. though given the games list is massively buggy on PS5 anyhow, it's probably beneficial that the PS4 is isolated off at the minute.
@tenaka30 - ah.. that might explain it, because i got the release date from a shopto notification, which was march sometime. not sure i see the sense in this case in releasing the PS5 physical edition later to be honest. well yes, you can play the PS4 version now on PS5 if you bought it already, but if not and downloaded it from ps plus next week.. i figured it would the PS4 version (having assumed the disc release date was the general one).
That decision has now, of course, backfired as the title will be made available for free to PS Plus subscribers on both PS5 and PS4 day-and-date with its next-gen digital release
except it's not. the native PS5 version releases in march - what you will be able to play on PS5 in february is the PS4 version through native backwards. yes, the PS4 version of the UE allows for a free PS5 upgrade.. but the way control's PS4->PS5 has been handled from the start, i would not be massively surprised if there were yet more caveats to that (i.e. only if you actually paid for it). does it say anywhere unambiguously that you'll be able to download the PS5 upgrade regardless of it releasing later?.
not sure how this is any different to something like destiny 2 where you can only buy the season pass with premium currency, and that includes exclusive exotic weapons quests, and other in-game activities, only for season pass owners.
not really sold on this, and usually anything at all which involves vehicles is an instant pass from me anyway. hope it's successful though.. i guess it will depend on exactly how well/slick it plays. seeing rocket league early on PS4 i would have bet then that it would be a very short lived fad.. after all it was really only an iteration on acrobatic supersonic battle-cars, and hardly anyone played that. RL took off being on PS+ plus, and released when there wasn't much else exclusively next-gen. similar situation for destruction allstars.
it ran great for me on PS5.. i don't have 4K tv, so graphics mode still ran at a flawless 60fps for me. sure, they could add a few bells and whistles to the graphics, but it already looks great, i think it'd be hard to justify the need for a native port. i just recently uninstalled it, after putting in about 100 hours.. finished a new game+ "speed" run (ie it wasn't that fast ) and about 20-30 hrs into legends - managed to finish all the legends story at bronze level solo, but silver level with the modifiers was just too difficult..
@Old-Red - RRP of (most) games in the UK is £60 — the difference in RRP is £10, not £25... my guess is that retailers at present are reluctant to bulk order the kind of quantity they need on next-gen games to get the same kind of retail discounts that eventually appeared for PS4.. while it's common to find £60 games retail at somewhere around the £50 (or a bit less), it'll be a while before we see similar reductions for PS5 games, due to the limited number of consoles out there.
would like to give it a try, but not at £70, or even the £62 that's the cheapest i've seen it so far. i'm not doubting its production values, but housemarque is a fairly small team, and i just don't see it having a substantial amount of content.
@Robinsad - i've played about 20 hours of spiderman without a single crash (though have encountered a couple of minor bugs). what version of the game do you have installed?. it should be 1.002 - the rest mode crash issue was fixed in 1.001. i also played about 25hrs of spiderman miles morales without a crash. the only PS5 game to crash on me is call of duty cold war - once when i tried to use the resume from the activity cards - it ran for a few minutes then crashed at the next section.. the other on the level with the red doors — crashed when trying to open the door, looked like a loading bug.
VoD doesn't seem to work for movies, imo. if a whole family wanted to see a movie, fair enough, but otherwise who is daft enough to rent a movie for £15+.. specially when you can go to an actual cinema for half the price and see it on a decent screen. i also imagine a lot of the big movie companies are reluctant to put stuff up, because then it can be much easier pirated at high quality and distributed online - than somebody sitting in a dark cinema with a phone/camera. selling it to something like netflix, amazon, etc. is extremely unlikely to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars.. even disney isn't rushing to release on disney+ any of its MCU movies that are already in the bag.
@OthmaneAD @rjc-32 — it's cross-gen (and a free upgrade) so i doubt it will be £70 even on PS5.. why wouldn't you buy it for sub-£50 on PS4 and take the free upgrade?. personally i can see the same kind of situation as miles morales.. where a remastered version of the previous game is included for the £70 version. considering they already put quite a bit of work into enhancing it for PC.. backporting that for PS5 seems a possibility to me.
this is why i thought sony shouldn't be doing this.. or at the very least, if they really couldn't resist putting it on PC, fob it off to an outsourced developer to port to PC and not waste guerrilla's resource time (even if the studio wanted to do it). might even have had the added bonus of getting another external studio familiar with the decima engine, which could be put to use on an original commissioned project. it's been 2017 since HZD, and likely going to be 4.5 (more likely 5) for another game from guerrilla.. going forward that's not sustainable for sony, it needs to get stuff out faster on PS5, or its going to be caught with a period when all of its studios are stuck in a long hiatus between games.
they were working on a new IP for PS4 before Cory Barlog rejoined and they began on the GoW reboot.. there was a rumour it was space shooter but sony canned it due to similarities to destiny which it felt was better and its social features had a more desirable angle they were trying to push with ps4, so no guarantee anything will necessarily come of this.
santa monica serves as a partner studio for other (external) studios on playstation projects.. so it's reasonable to think they could work on two IPs at the same time, especially if it's expanding. growing its own studios would probably be sony's preferred method of producing more playstation content.. especially if studios are working on just one game and it takes 4-5 years. with enough resources working on two games, you can stagger them and get stuff every two years even if it takes 4 years to make a game.. sony's probably eager to turn many of its big studios into the same model as insomniac.. spiderman (2018), miles morales (2020), R&C (2021).. i expect spiderman 2 to arrive possibly autumn 2022.. that's a fair rhythm for producing new games from one studio.
unless i'm missing something obvious, you could effectively play hitman 1 and 2 (or most of it) inside 3 for free if you were able to borrow/rent the first two games on blu-ray disc?.
@naruball - for the last week of 2020, ~80k PS5s were sold in europe (less than switch, but more than 2.5 times xbox s/x combined) so stock is dripfeeding into the supply chain, but rebuilding sizeable supply chains is not a simple matter. there is currently limited container capacity from china, and typically sony have used distribution centres in rotterdam for PS4s in europe - so whether that adds a layer of bureaucracy or the need to now ship PS5s to one of the UKs ports, movement will be somewhat curtailed in the short-term. most launch units were shipped by airfreight to meet release dates, but that is not sustainable long term. PS5 had the biggest launch of any console ever in the UK, so i doubt interest is going to die anytime soon, but the biggest threat to PS5 demand (or any of the consoles) is a damaging economic recession.
@wiiware - i disagree, the story of TLoU2 is much better than any of the uncharted's. i don't like it is as much as the first game, but it's nothing to do with it being "controversial", nor are any of the characters as likeable as drake and sully - but then they're not meant to be. the one uncharted game so far not done by naughty dog lacks something imo, and the one that doesn't feature drake is redundant, so i don't have high hopes for it. the uncharted movie will probably be colossally bad. i'm pretty sure they will move on, and whatever it is will probably not have as heavy and dark tone as the last of us.
also, get your facts straight. bruce straley did not write any of the games, he was the game director. three of the 4 main uncharted games had josh scherr and druckmann as co-writers. the only one written by amy hennig alone was part 3 which is the weakest of the 4. josh scherr is still at ND, and wasn't directly involved in TLoU2. he must have been working on something since UC:LL, right?.
@wiiware - personally i don't think uncharted will work with any other studio. i'd rather it was just retired gracefully to be honest.
i don't think it'll be TLoU3 either.. there's 7 years between 1 and 2, it took them long enough to decide the direction they wanted to go with part 2.. i very much doubt a part 3 would even be in pre-production at this point. UC4 is almost 5 years ago, and UC:LL is 3.5 years ago.. so i think the core uncharted team has been working on something else, and now TLoU2 has wrapped up more tech resources will move over to whatever they've been working on.
horizon forbidden west i think will be march 2022 - i reckon there'll be a PS5 special edition that includes a remaster of zero dawn. all we've seen of GoW is a logo - defo 2022. ratchet will make it, they've showed gameplay since last summer, i'd say it's been close to finished for a while now. apr-may would be my guess. if gran turismo 7 is also coming to PS4, i think it'll be out this year.. if it's PS5 only, i don't think so, there won't be enough PS5s on the market this year to sell the usual kind of numbers that GT posts to justify its development budgets.
i thought it was zenimax that MS were in the process of acquiring, but bethesda would maintain some independence over its own publishing business? sure they'll go on a MS subscription service on day 1, but wouldn't rule out bethesda publishing it PS5 too, even if its half-ass supported. from a personal opinion, machine games doesn't have much of a track record, other than a couple of painfully average wolfenstein games.
i put about 60 hours into ghost of tsushima on PS5 (including a brief dabble with legends story mode - which i found a bit hard solo to be honest!) but the game was new to me.. otherwise i haven't played any PS4 stuff at all, as i don't have any outstanding unplayed games, and i copied nothing over from PS4 (can't seem to get the two consoles to see each other at all). ghost of tsushima turned out to be not quite what i expected it to be (in a good way) so i may try days gone from the ps+ collection as i avoided it for similar reasons. otherwise it will likely be some brief sessions on destiny 2 (it's not that great, but a few strikes or couple of games of gambit kills half an hour) until ratchet & clank comes out.
i'm considering buying the final season of walking dead in the current sale, but i'd probably just download and play it on my PS4 to be honest, as it's still hooked up for the TV apps.
if it's a minimal effort with just some up-res graphics (which is really what i expect), i'm not sure it'll look good in the light.. sure, ME2 in particular has great characters and an interesting if somewhat cheesy plot, but unreal engine 3 is pretty decrepid by now.. the games need a bit of overhaul for modern consoles to be honest.
strangely i think QD might struggle to hit previous success without the marketing lure of a sony exclusive.. i always thought that heavy rain and detroit become human punched way above their weight for sales in comparison to their niche gameplay style. heavy rain sold over 5m, similar games in that style, such as the latest supermassive trilogy, have failed to capture anything like that sales success.
romania, eh? that does interest me.. munții carpați is a beautiful spot.. plenty of gorges and mountain passes for some sniping possibilies. the series never really appealed to me much before though.. seems like the gameplay mechanic might get a bit frustrating.
i'd be getting the native ps5 disc version if i was to get it, but can't seem to find how the previous games will integrate with that version.
there's a large number of caveats behind that report. the 42m sales includes steam, etc. which is pretty much all digital. so even if PC was only worth 20% of the overall market, that's still 8.5m sales - meaning the 18.5m physical sales on consoles is still more than the digital counterparts. how many of the sales were digital only games? (which seems to be way more than half of all games released on PSN)... all those 20,000 trophies hunters that bought my name is mayo 2 skewing the data. how many are older games on sale? and basically aren't stocked anymore by retailers?. the last 3 months of the year which is huge for physical purchases, the shops were closed for all but a couple of weeks.. people who bought PS5s or XBS|X couldn't pick up them up in stores so impulse purchases went out the window. if £65-70 becomes the norm for next gen games at launch, i think the could be a resurge of physical due to resale value.
i bought only physical games (5) in 2020.. i can't see that changing in 2021.
as for the trophies - with the exception of one trophy, i believe you can now get all the other online trophies using botzone. i think it's the jack of all trades trophy that requries you to max out one of the support abilities (supplying ammo) that doesn't work offline because the bots don't pick up ammo from your crates.
i think sony really needs its own flagship shooter franchise and not just rely on riding the coat tails of a CoD marketing partnership with activision. if it's not going to reboot killzone or resistance, then it needs to petition its studios for new ideas.. though if it's not guerrilla or insomniac, i can't see where the FPS experience is.
KZ2 and KZ3 were both great multiplayer experiences, only the bad company franchise came close on PS3, imo. shadow fall is significantly worse in all regards.. it's now rampant with cheaters apparently, so maybe a nail in the coffin is the best thing for it. criticising the campaigns for being corridor shooters is a bit unfair, given the limitations of that console generation - most FPS tended to be extremely linear back then (i still think that format is preferrable for FPS) - the KZ2 website back then had massive amounts of detailed history and backstory for the ISA/Helghast, even other disputed planets, none of which really was really explored in the games sadly. it had a lot of potential, just needed a better writer.. could have worked as something like a FPS version of mass effect 2.
there's been rumours circulating for quite a while that guerrilla is working on a multiplayer shooter.. the studio has been recruiting to grow into a multigame studio, i just hope it's not a socom reboot that's been touted (sony has way more than enough 3rd person for any publisher), or some kind of overwatch style hero shooter... i'd have no interest in either of those.
i liked MW's multiplayer quite a bit, and it has a vastly superior selection of content compared to cold war. however, i utterly detest warzone, after 2-3 matches had no intention of ever playing it again, but activision's continued stubbornness in refusing to let me (and everyone else who wishes to do so) uninstall it ( it's superfluous sh**e wasting 60-70gb of precious hard-drive space ), i deleted the whole game... its abysmal inefficiency in patching (where they're all humungous) didn't help. only about 4 of cold war's maps are worth playing, and grinding out battle pass tiers on that seems like an exercise in tedium. having access to the 30 or so maps from MW would really help.
£50, £60 or £70 is not the issue (for me).. i'm not convinced it's a game that justifies being a full price release.. it's more ambitious than their usual stuff, but are the levels not procedurally generated? it's not like they've had to handcraft huge environments. when i first saw it, i expected it to get a price-hike in comparison to their usual kind of games, but figured it'd be something like £29.99.
from the list, God of War, but the answer is Horizon Zero Dawn. It was only on PS4 at the time of release, and was for 3.5 years. if sony is being that pedantic, then there are games listed that were on PS3 as well, so aren't exclusive to PS4.
@KonkeyDong64 - severe hitching and stuttering issues. its in multiplayer only.. such as running into a building, only to go back about 10 frames and be back outside in the street. i see somebody, go to ADS and they completely disappear in front of me. get killed and the kill cam makes it look as if i've frozen.. i've seen it on other players, who likely are on PS5.. they go to shoot and me and then don't and look frozen for a few frames - long enough to notice and get an easy advantage.
i don't have the cross-gen version to fall back on, i have only the PS5 version on disk. supposedly a fix was released on 26th december, but it's still happening for me. i tried disabling ray-tracing, enabling performance mode, turned off crossplay, etc. didn't make any difference. i haven't tried since before new year, but prior to the season 1 update, the game ran very smoothly.

Re: Destruction AllStars File Size Will Be Kind to Your PS5's Precious SSD
no problem for me, i have 390gb free on my PS5 at present. though since 28gb is not a quick download for me, i am debating whether to bother trying it out.. since there's a high chance i'll hate it and delete it after 15 minutes. because vehicles.
Re: PlayStation Studios Poised to Publish First Ever Xbox One Game
whether forced to or not, i do wonder what would have happened if sony had said f*** it.. we're not doing multiplatform development. the MLB would have had to find a different developer, most likely starting from scratch.. with a strong possibility that the product could look a lot less favourable in comparison to the sony published games. a poor game is unlikely to sell as many even if it is on more platforms.
Re: PS5 Owners Confused by Incorrect Profile Listings for Games
this has been happening for weeks. something at the back end must have gone wrong, though it's not the only buggy issue with the games list.
every time i turn on the PS5 i seem to get different random games on my list, sometimes with platinum trophies. i've never played overwatch, but it showed the platinum trophy for me - if i click on it, it shows the list for a completely different game. or sometimes it can't seem to work it out, and just shows the entire trophies game list. if i compare games with a friend, it sometimes shows a mutual game that neither of us have played. collections with multiple games, such as the drake collection, does not show correctly - so i can only see uncharted 1, but not 2 or 3 (2 nor 3 show up in the trophy lists either). same for borderlands collection. it often shows the same game multiple times — occassionally this might be an alpha, a beta, and the full game (like destiny) but the PS4 distinguishes these, the PS5 does not - they all look and are named exactly the same.
Re: Talking Point: Is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Still a PS5 Launch Window Game?
i think it'll be later than september. imo, at least two of GT7, horizon forbidden west end GoW ragnarok will not release this year so R&C will be pushed out to plug a gap in the autumn.
given AMD have already said they expect supply of their chips to be constrained for at least the first half of 2021, i don't expect retail surplus to exist anytime soon. year one might as well be considered PS5 early access.
Re: Reminder: You Can Claim PS5 PS Plus Games Even If You Don't Have the Console Yet
Re: Control Fans Bemused by Free PS Plus Version for PS5, PS4
@tenaka30 - ah.. that might explain it, because i got the release date from a shopto notification, which was march sometime. not sure i see the sense in this case in releasing the PS5 physical edition later to be honest. well yes, you can play the PS4 version now on PS5 if you bought it already, but if not and downloaded it from ps plus next week.. i figured it would the PS4 version (having assumed the disc release date was the general one).
Re: Control Fans Bemused by Free PS Plus Version for PS5, PS4
Re: Destruction AllStars' Challenge Series to Be Locked Behind Premium Currency
not sure how this is any different to something like destiny 2 where you can only buy the season pass with premium currency, and that includes exclusive exotic weapons quests, and other in-game activities, only for season pass owners.
not really sold on this, and usually anything at all which involves vehicles is an instant pass from me anyway. hope it's successful though.. i guess it will depend on exactly how well/slick it plays. seeing rocket league early on PS4 i would have bet then that it would be a very short lived fad.. after all it was really only an iteration on acrobatic supersonic battle-cars, and hardly anyone played that. RL took off being on PS+ plus, and released when there wasn't much else exclusively next-gen. similar situation for destruction allstars.
Re: Ghost of Tsushima Fans Think the Game May Be Coming to PS5
it ran great for me on PS5.. i don't have 4K tv, so graphics mode still ran at a flawless 60fps for me. sure, they could add a few bells and whistles to the graphics, but it already looks great, i think it'd be hard to justify the need for a native port. i just recently uninstalled it, after putting in about 100 hours.. finished a new game+ "speed" run (ie it wasn't that fast ) and about 20-30 hrs into legends - managed to finish all the legends story at bronze level solo, but silver level with the modifiers was just too difficult..
Re: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Will, Unsurprisingly, Have Near Instant Respawns
@Old-Red - RRP of (most) games in the UK is £60 — the difference in RRP is £10, not £25... my guess is that retailers at present are reluctant to bulk order the kind of quantity they need on next-gen games to get the same kind of retail discounts that eventually appeared for PS4.. while it's common to find £60 games retail at somewhere around the £50 (or a bit less), it'll be a while before we see similar reductions for PS5 games, due to the limited number of consoles out there.
Re: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Will, Unsurprisingly, Have Near Instant Respawns
would like to give it a try, but not at £70, or even the £62 that's the cheapest i've seen it so far. i'm not doubting its production values, but housemarque is a fairly small team, and i just don't see it having a substantial amount of content.
Re: Guess What? Cyberpunk 2077 Still Has Serious Crashing Issues on PS5, PS4 After Patch 1.10
Re: Uncharted Movie Delayed Yet Again to February 2022
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Production Efforts Boosted as PC Patches Wind Down
@OthmaneAD @rjc-32 — it's cross-gen (and a free upgrade) so i doubt it will be £70 even on PS5.. why wouldn't you buy it for sub-£50 on PS4 and take the free upgrade?. personally i can see the same kind of situation as miles morales.. where a remastered version of the previous game is included for the £70 version. considering they already put quite a bit of work into enhancing it for PC.. backporting that for PS5 seems a possibility to me.
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Production Efforts Boosted as PC Patches Wind Down
this is why i thought sony shouldn't be doing this.. or at the very least, if they really couldn't resist putting it on PC, fob it off to an outsourced developer to port to PC and not waste guerrilla's resource time (even if the studio wanted to do it). might even have had the added bonus of getting another external studio familiar with the decima engine, which could be put to use on an original commissioned project. it's been 2017 since HZD, and likely going to be 4.5 (more likely 5) for another game from guerrilla.. going forward that's not sustainable for sony, it needs to get stuff out faster on PS5, or its going to be caught with a period when all of its studios are stuck in a long hiatus between games.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Dev Already Hiring for Next Game
they were working on a new IP for PS4 before Cory Barlog rejoined and they began on the GoW reboot.. there was a rumour it was space shooter but sony canned it due to similarities to destiny which it felt was better and its social features had a more desirable angle they were trying to push with ps4, so no guarantee anything will necessarily come of this.
santa monica serves as a partner studio for other (external) studios on playstation projects.. so it's reasonable to think they could work on two IPs at the same time, especially if it's expanding. growing its own studios would probably be sony's preferred method of producing more playstation content.. especially if studios are working on just one game and it takes 4-5 years. with enough resources working on two games, you can stagger them and get stuff every two years even if it takes 4 years to make a game.. sony's probably eager to turn many of its big studios into the same model as insomniac.. spiderman (2018), miles morales (2020), R&C (2021).. i expect spiderman 2 to arrive possibly autumn 2022.. that's a fair rhythm for producing new games from one studio.
Re: Hitman 3: How to Import All Levels and Locations from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 on PS5, PS4
unless i'm missing something obvious, you could effectively play hitman 1 and 2 (or most of it) inside 3 for free if you were able to borrow/rent the first two games on blu-ray disc?.
Re: Hitman 3 (PS5) - The Ultimate Stealth Sandbox
i'd presume the import doesn't work with physical versions of the earlier games.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Grand Theft Auto V Is the Week's Best-Selling Physical PlayStation Game
Re: Naughty Dog 'Making Something Very Cool' as Hiring Spree Advertised
Re: Naughty Dog 'Making Something Very Cool' as Hiring Spree Advertised
Re: Talking Point: What Other PS5 Games Could Be Delayed Past 2021?
horizon forbidden west i think will be march 2022 - i reckon there'll be a PS5 special edition that includes a remaster of zero dawn. all we've seen of GoW is a logo - defo 2022. ratchet will make it, they've showed gameplay since last summer, i'd say it's been close to finished for a while now. apr-may would be my guess. if gran turismo 7 is also coming to PS4, i think it'll be out this year.. if it's PS5 only, i don't think so, there won't be enough PS5s on the market this year to sell the usual kind of numbers that GT posts to justify its development budgets.
Re: Bethesda Teases Indiana Jones Game, But Will It Come to PS5?
i thought it was zenimax that MS were in the process of acquiring, but bethesda would maintain some independence over its own publishing business? sure they'll go on a MS subscription service on day 1, but wouldn't rule out bethesda publishing it PS5 too, even if its half-ass supported. from a personal opinion, machine games doesn't have much of a track record, other than a couple of painfully average wolfenstein games.
Re: Soapbox: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Has Kept Me Glued to My Next-Gen Console
i put about 60 hours into ghost of tsushima on PS5 (including a brief dabble with legends story mode - which i found a bit hard solo to be honest!) but the game was new to me.. otherwise i haven't played any PS4 stuff at all, as i don't have any outstanding unplayed games, and i copied nothing over from PS4 (can't seem to get the two consoles to see each other at all). ghost of tsushima turned out to be not quite what i expected it to be (in a good way) so i may try days gone from the ps+ collection as i avoided it for similar reasons. otherwise it will likely be some brief sessions on destiny 2 (it's not that great, but a few strikes or couple of games of gambit kills half an hour) until ratchet & clank comes out.
i'm considering buying the final season of walking dead in the current sale, but i'd probably just download and play it on my PS4 to be honest, as it's still hooked up for the TV apps.
Re: Rumour: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Release Date Set for 12th March
if it's a minimal effort with just some up-res graphics (which is really what i expect), i'm not sure it'll look good in the light.. sure, ME2 in particular has great characters and an interesting if somewhat cheesy plot, but unreal engine 3 is pretty decrepid by now.. the games need a bit of overhaul for modern consoles to be honest.
Re: Quantic Dream's David Cage Teases Exciting 2021
strangely i think QD might struggle to hit previous success without the marketing lure of a sony exclusive.. i always thought that heavy rain and detroit become human punched way above their weight for sales in comparison to their niche gameplay style. heavy rain sold over 5m, similar games in that style, such as the latest supermassive trilogy, have failed to capture anything like that sales success.
Re: Hitman 3 Will Take Agent 47 to Germany, Argentina, and Romania
romania, eh? that does interest me.. munții carpați is a beautiful spot.. plenty of gorges and mountain passes for some sniping possibilies. the series never really appealed to me much before though.. seems like the gameplay mechanic might get a bit frustrating.
i'd be getting the native ps5 disc version if i was to get it, but can't seem to find how the previous games will integrate with that version.
Re: 67 Per Cent of UK Game Sales Were Digital Last Year
there's a large number of caveats behind that report. the 42m sales includes steam, etc. which is pretty much all digital. so even if PC was only worth 20% of the overall market, that's still 8.5m sales - meaning the 18.5m physical sales on consoles is still more than the digital counterparts. how many of the sales were digital only games?
Re: Official Killzone Website Shut Down, Some Services Affected
as for the trophies - with the exception of one trophy, i believe you can now get all the other online trophies using botzone. i think it's the jack of all trades trophy that requries you to max out one of the support abilities (supplying ammo) that doesn't work offline because the bots don't pick up ammo from your crates.
Re: Official Killzone Website Shut Down, Some Services Affected
i think sony really needs its own flagship shooter franchise and not just rely on riding the coat tails of a CoD marketing partnership with activision. if it's not going to reboot killzone or resistance, then it needs to petition its studios for new ideas.. though if it's not guerrilla or insomniac, i can't see where the FPS experience is.
Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit
i liked MW's multiplayer quite a bit, and it has a vastly superior selection of content compared to cold war. however, i utterly detest warzone, after 2-3 matches had no intention of ever playing it again, but activision's continued stubbornness in refusing to let me (and everyone else who wishes to do so) uninstall it ( it's superfluous sh**e wasting 60-70gb of precious hard-drive space ), i deleted the whole game... its abysmal inefficiency in patching (where they're all humungous) didn't help. only about 4 of cold war's maps are worth playing, and grinding out battle pass tiers on that seems like an exercise in tedium. having access to the 30 or so maps from MW would really help.
Re: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Gets New Gameplay Footage in Latest Dev Diary
£50, £60 or £70 is not the issue (for me).. i'm not convinced it's a game that justifies being a full price release.. it's more ambitious than their usual stuff, but are the levels not procedurally generated? it's not like they've had to handcraft huge environments. when i first saw it, i expected it to get a price-hike in comparison to their usual kind of games, but figured it'd be something like £29.99.
Re: Poll: What Was the Best PS4 First-Party Exclusive of the Generation?
from the list, God of War, but the answer is Horizon Zero Dawn. It was only on PS4 at the time of release, and was for 3.5 years. if sony is being that pedantic, then there are games listed that were on PS3 as well, so aren't exclusive to PS4.
Re: New Maps, Modes Coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Next Week
@KonkeyDong64 - severe hitching and stuttering issues. its in multiplayer only.. such as running into a building, only to go back about 10 frames and be back outside in the street. i see somebody, go to ADS and they completely disappear in front of me. get killed and the kill cam makes it look as if i've frozen.. i've seen it on other players, who likely are on PS5.. they go to shoot and me and then don't and look frozen for a few frames - long enough to notice and get an easy advantage.
https://www.vg247.com/2020/12/16/black-ops-cold-war-season-one-patch-ps5-stuttering-hitching/
https://callofduty.news/2020/12/16/fix-for-black-ops-cold-war-ps5-hitching-issues-coming/
i don't have the cross-gen version to fall back on, i have only the PS5 version on disk. supposedly a fix was released on 26th december, but it's still happening for me. i tried disabling ray-tracing, enabling performance mode, turned off crossplay, etc. didn't make any difference. i haven't tried since before new year, but prior to the season 1 update, the game ran very smoothly.
