Re: PS Plus July 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced

michaelf

This'll be the first time since owning a PS4 that I won't be adding either game to my library .. I have no interest in WWE and whilst CoD is a pretty fine game for many, having no singleplayer element for me means I won't play it.

I'll definitely play Plague ... when I get a PS5, that is.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS1, PS2, or PS3 Emulator for PS5?

michaelf

A paid-for PS emulator is an interesting concept. I’d certainly pay for this, on the basis that I could use either digital or disc purchases.

In my hypothetical version, there would be a tab or page per PS, and each tab/page would allow access to a slimmed down storefront, tailored to each machine. Going by what already exists digitally, only the PS2 would lose out on this front, compared to the number of digital PS1 and PS3 games already available. You could always add in the two handhelds as well.

This would mean that Sony would get money from the emulator and other digital purchases, and allowing this to remain very separate from the “proper” PS store as well.

I can dream!!

Re: Sony Must Communicate Its Plans for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP

michaelf

Great article. I won't be too fussed if I can't buy new games, but I'll be almighty hacked off if I can't redownload past purchases (and past PS+ games assuming I still am holding a sub).

What it has done though is look through my PS3, PS Vita and PS4 digital games and try and work out which ones I'll do without, as I've only got a certain amount of storage space for games, especially for the Vita.

It's also changed my view on purchasing games too. I'd got quite used to buying digital, as a convenience and with sales, getting discounted games. This manoevre has meant I'll only buy physical PS5 games and then it'll be a lot fewer than I'd intended, given the cost of them. So the decision is counter-productive for their current cash cow, never mind with previous, discontinued, machines.

I look forward to the official news from Sony, to hopefully clarify what is going on.

Re: GTA 5 Ships 140 Million Copies, 2020 Its Best-Selling Year Since Launch

michaelf

Wow. That’s a huge number and the cash pouring in tells me that GTA6, is likely to be years off.

I am one of the few who hasn’t bought GTA5. In fact other than playing GTA on my mates PlayStation back at the dawn of time, I’ve not really spent much time on any of them.

And that’s despite owning the PSP versions and GTAIV on PS3 ... I believe they’re remarkable games; they’re all just stuck in backlog hell. I have no interest in the Online version either.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for February 2021?

michaelf

I’m really looking forward to playing Control. I tried the demo on my Switch and enjoyed it, but having Control on the PS4/5 will be much better (and not cloud-based either).

However I picked Concrete Genie as my choice as I’d probably not have bought that and it’s piqued my interest a wee bit more.

Re: Poll: What Was the Best PS4 First-Party Exclusive of the Generation?

michaelf

A tough one for me. I have many of those featured and on top of that I’ve played most of them too (still got Massive Backlog Syndrome though).

I settled on TLoU part 2, but very nearly chose Days Gone. Loved both; spent around 100 hours on DG and still to do the challenges and new game plus (which I’ll do on PS5 whenever I can get one).

I wanted to choose a whole bunch of PSVR games, Until Dawn and Resogun, but I went with the one which really hauled my emotions over the coals, from a few shrieks due to the jump scares, the “NOOOO!!!” when things happened to various characters, smiling at some of the more pleasant scenes; being aghast at some of the brutality. And nearly throwing the controller off the walls trying to beat THAT boss. Ahem.

Re: Is It Worth Buying a PS Vita in 2021?

michaelf

Very fair article. I’ve had a Vita since Uncharted: Golden Abyss appeared on PS+ and along with my 32Gig card, it was a very worthy purchase.

Yes, I wish it had been treated better by Sony (and bought by more people!) and I’m very aware of its’ flaws, but my gaming experience has only been made better through owning the machine. I love the OLED screen!!!!

I still play it now, as well my Switch and Evercade. Having access to digital PSOne and PSP games is also a nice side benefit too.

Re: Soapbox: I've Missed the Feeling of Having a Backlog

michaelf

@TheMysticOne I agree that Sony messed up the Vita (especially as they sold 80m PSPs!) and agree that a Vita 2 should sell much better. But I think that ship had sailed.

I’ve been a handheld gamer since the mid-90’s, but I do appreciate some games are just more suited and play better on the big screen

Re: Soapbox: I've Missed the Feeling of Having a Backlog

michaelf

@TheMysticOne that’s eerily similar to my backlog!! Got Plus games for the PS3 not completed! And Vita games ... and PS4 ... and random PS Store sales (it goes on!).

I’ve probably got enough games to see me through to retirement!

When I finally do get a PS5, I’m looking forward to playing my PS4 backlog as I’m really gonna try and restrict any PS5 backlog ... watch me fail ...

Re: Throwback Space Shooter Habroxia 2 Fires to PS4, PS Vita on 3rd February

michaelf

Now that I know there are TWO vita games I wasn't aware of (this one and the original), that's two more purchases from me.
#vitaforever !

UPDATE: just tried to purchase the first game and I'm getting error message NP-2245-3 "can't connect to the store" error message. After a quick google this is happening to others today and also over the last 5-6 years sigh

Re: Pro Days Gone Player Is Beating Entire Hordes Without Firing a Bullet

michaelf

that was REALLY IMPRESSIVE!!! I managed a few hordes, but not all of them. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Days Gone last year and can't wait to revisit it when I eventually get a PS5. I've yet to try the other modes (NG+, Survival and Challenge) so I've got plenty of means to try and replicate his feats! (and no doubt will fail ...)

Re: Custom PS5 Console Hits the Internet, And It Looks Incredible

michaelf

I think the design of the console and controller are stunning. Distinctive and stylish!

There could be other variants in the same style, so if people didn’t want those particular characters, there’d be some a choice of others.

Here’s hoping !

(And a PS5 to go with it would be nice too ...)

Re: Poll: Did You Get a PS5?

michaelf

@lumothesinner I’m in agreement here. I was chomping at the bit to get a PS4, then the Pro. I enjoyed the hype of the PS5 and can’t wait to try the DualSense.

But with the various issue reports mentioned here and other reputable sites, I’m getting the impression that the OS was rushed out. I’ll wait until next year and the basic things which shouldn’t be defective are fixed until I get one.

I’ll be beaming when I get one though!

Re: Crypt of the NecroDancer Currently Free on EU PS Store

michaelf

I got it for free via the link in the article. There was another version which was 80% off, leaving that version at £2.99. I thought it was cross-buy, so I had a look on the Vita store (and “legacy/old” web store) & it was indeed! Except the free one is for PS4 only. Free is free, I guess; can’t complain

Re: PS Plus October 2020 PS4 Games Announced

michaelf

For me, a better Plus offering than last month. I’ve been keen to try Vampyr for months but been too tight to buy it!! I know it’s not considered a 10/10 game, but I’m looking forward to it.

As for NFS, I’ll probably give it a go and will see. Not liking the micro transactions element, but I’m a grown up so won’t buy any and will delete the game if it pesters / nudges me into doing so.

I’m really interested to see how Plus will be next month - I’m expecting the usual 2x PS4 games, and the advertised Collection for PS5 and ....? Anything else ...? Hmmmm. Will find out in about a month!

Re: Talking Point: Did the PS5 Showcase Event Deliver?

michaelf

I really enjoyed it. Saw more of the games we saw in the first reel and some ones wasn’t expecting.

Enjoyed the new FF more than I thought I would. I wasn’t surprised by the price for the disc version and have budgeted accordingly. We can find out more about the UI between now and launch day.

But pre order info please ...?

Re: PS5 Showcase Event Confirmed for This Wednesday

michaelf

As much as I want to know price and pre-order availability (and a bit more about BC), from reading the text about this on the blog, it says to me that this is purely about the games, not the machine ... please (please, please!) let me be wrong!

Re: Outrage as EA Shoves Real World Ads Into UFC 4 After Review Period Is Over

michaelf

@get2sammyb it may look authentic, and I have no problems with the ad on the ring canvas floor, but it’s not acceptable swiping through the action sequences of game. And the tactic of doing so - of adding in after the game reviews - is totally planned to create the quietest kerfuffle is quite Machiavellian.

I remember EA putting in adverts for football boots (Predator?) back in FIFA ‘93 on the Amiga and Megadrive, but it wasn’t that bad.

Or is it just a reemergence of their “if it’s in the game IT’S IN THE GAME” slogan?

It’s the tactics rather than the ads I guess which are the most underhand.

Re: PS Plus September 2020 PS4 Games Announced

michaelf

I normally add the plus games to my library and get around to them eventually - I’ll even try the two in the ‘simulator’ month. Not this time. I have no interest in battle royale games and I lost interest in this style of fighting game a long time ago.

I’m not criticising either games’ quality or perceived value; I just have no interest in the genre.

Not much of a birthday present for me, these September games!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 337

michaelf

I’m giving TLoU part 2 a breather as I can’t get past <spoiler> and it’s doing my nut in!

So I’m trying Marvel’s Avengers beta as I got a code as I’m a virgin media customer. It’s not bad from what I’ve played so far, but clearly it’s not a direct replacement for the films and it’s not got the polish of Naughty Dogs’ game. It may be a buy for the PS5 when it’s been discounted ...

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think of the Latest State of Play Livestream?

michaelf

I enjoyed it; was expecting PS4, PSVR games with a little smattering of PS5 and that’s what happened, though perhaps a little light on PSVR.

What there was though, I REALLY LIKED! Vader! All Hitman! Wooo!!

The indie games looked quite interesting and I could’ve sworn I saw Kat from Gravity Rush in at least one of them.

Good format, enjoyed, though didn’t hit the WOW spot. A well earned 4/5

Re: PS Plus August 2020 PS4 Games Announced

michaelf

My first reaction was "not ANOTHER COD game", but then I remembered that I was going to buy this, given [for me], the game only being single player was a selling point. So, technically a good month for that, but I have no interest in the other game. Still; can't grumble too much (got plenty to be playing from BackLogLand) ...

Re: Poll: Would You Still Pay for PS Plus if Online Multiplayer Was Free Elsewhere?

michaelf

@Rob_230 that's my thoughts exactly - and not just for the PS4 games, but also the PS3 and Vita ones. I bought into the Playstation gaming library for their exclusive single-player games and I'm still seeing plenty of that upcoming.

If Sony react in a pro-consumer, positive manner to whatever MS ends up doing, then fantastic (as it's still not been confirmed what Ms are actually doing yet), but I'm not going to whip myself up into a frenzy over this. My older PS machines still work, I have a truckload of games (bought and with Plus) and my intention to buy a PS5 isn't diminished.

PS+ including PSNow for £50-60 a year (as suggested above) would be a good one for me. I'm not expecting the price to stay the same if fundamentally more is added.

Re: PS5 Fans Are Pondering the Future of PS Plus

michaelf

From a consumer perspective, having “everything” (online+game pass+xcloud) in a monthly fee will seem like an easy thing and many won’t think / realise it’s actually more. But that’s for Microsoft to worry about.

Will Sony do anything similar? PS+ and PSNOW merged would be the nearest equivalent and again that would seem like a good deal for many people. This then drops the duplicate “free” game scenario as what has happened in the past and for both services, the online “paywall” will invariably get masked as one of many features for a monthly fee.

I wouldn’t say no to that, purely as I’ve had PS+ for A number of years now so many of the games exist in PSNOW and there’s plenty I still want to play. I benefit from the cloud saves but I rarely do online multiplayer. So it could work for me

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Ghost of Tsushima?

michaelf

I was a ‘nah, maybe down the line’ only because I’m still chugging away at TLoUPtII and have a large backlist I want to complete before I get my grubby hands on a PS5. I will look forward to playing Ghost on that, along with some other current-gen games I’ve not got, like the last GoW.

All in all, I expect to be very happy when I do get round to playing Ghost !
