Re: Guide: Elite Dangerous Tips and Tricks for Beginners

AlexStinton

Sorry! Me again. One thing I noticed playing yesterday - which contradicts what I say in my tips to an extent - is that other players aren't being that aggressive yet on PS4.

I saw loads of other commanders, but since everyone is just starting out, those I crossed paths with just happily went about their business. I guess this shouldn't be unexpected, but as players get into better ships I'd bet money that this will change quickly.

@ellsworth004 If you buy the version with the horizons expansion pack you can land on planets - though only barren ones at this point - and drive around in a vehicle deployed from your ship.

Apart from that all of the action takes place in the cockpit of your ship.

Re: Guide: Elite Dangerous Tips and Tricks for Beginners

AlexStinton

@themcnoisy You're welcome. Those sorts of tools can take a lot of the pain out of trying to find things in Elite.

Though, I thought I was going to need to click the Fuel Rats link last night as I nearly ran out of fuel at one point. That would have been embarrassing.

I probably should practice what I preach.

Re: Review: Full Throttle Remastered (PS4)

AlexStinton

@Tasuki Thanks! Full Throttle is one of my favourite adventure games of the era and it's well worth your time. It does make me sad we never saw any of the sequels that were in development though.

Also, as @iv-tecman points out this is a really easy platinum trophy.

Re: Video: Unmask An Hour of The Sexy Brutale Gameplay

AlexStinton

@get2sammyb I don't think so. From what I've played so far the solutions have been pretty straightforward. The challenge is in finding all the pieces of the puzzle in the first place.

Also, since the game is running through the same time period over and over again, I'd imagine coming back for any collectibles would be pretty easy - if you can find them that is.

Re: Review: KONA (PS4)

AlexStinton

@belmont It ends a bit abruptly, but you do get the answers you're looking for. I wasn't aware this was going to by multipart, but it makes sense given it doesn't definitively close things out.

Re: Review: For Honor (PS4)

AlexStinton

@notdead Thanks! I know all of the reviewers for the site would really appreciate that compliment. It'll help us stave off the crushing self doubt for at least a few hours.

Re: Review: For Honor (PS4)

AlexStinton

@Radbot42 Sorry, I wasn't very clear with my wording in that section was I? What I meant was that you got a chance to play as all of the broader character classes: all-rounder, heavy, light, etc.

You're correct in saying you don't play as all 12 specific heroes in the campaign.

Re: Review: For Honor (PS4)

AlexStinton

@ShogunRok Yes it does. Just don't make the mistake of thinking they're a push over because they will mess you up. There were even certain heroes I'd rather fight with a player at the controls.

Re: Game of the Year 2016: Alex's Personal PlayStation Picks

AlexStinton

@NathanUC I tried Paragon when it first came out and it felt far too slow to me. I gave it another shot after the big update but I think I'm too deep into Smite and I only have place for one MOBA in my life.

Battleborn on the other hand showed promise, but the co-op component was tedious as hell, and with Overwatch stomping it - even though they're quite different games - there was never any chance of a decent community forming around it.

Re: Review: Steep (PS4)

AlexStinton

@Lovespuds While they haven't fixed the map Ubisoft have patched in a menu that you can easily select challenges from. Which is great, unless you've just written a review draft where you complain that the map is crap, and you can't believe there isn't a menu you can select challenges from.

Re: Review: Steep (PS4)

AlexStinton

@Jake3103 You can play without a PS+ subscription but you won't be able to do the multiplayer stuff. Which is ironic since you have to be connected to the internet to play it solo in the first place.

Re: Review: Steep (PS4)

AlexStinton

@THEundying27 It's a good game, but as @ShogunRok said it got forgotten about in terms of sales so retailers are discounting it heavily.

Re: Video: Taking Final Fantasy XV For a Spin on PS4 Pro

AlexStinton

@walrusballs I assume you're using a Samsung TV based on the settings you mention.

I've been playing it in game mode with HDR on and while the frame rate isn't as smooth as I'd like with the nicer graphical setting selected, it hasn't negatively impacted my enjoyment.

The main thing I've found is that it's too bright at times for my taste, so I've had to fiddle with the dynamic contrast setting to find a sweet spot.

Re: Review: Dishonored 2 (PS4)

AlexStinton

@GamerDad66 The box doesn't list it as Pro enhanced but apparently it is. Having played parts of the game on both the Pro and the standard PS4 I'm sure there are differences, but I'd be hard pushed to tell you specifically what they were. It just wasn't that noticeable.

Re: Review: Dishonored 2 (PS4)

AlexStinton

@GamingPenguin True, but the penalties for not exploring will impact how much fun you have to such an extent that it feels much more like a stick than a carrot.

Re: Review: Windlands (PS4)

AlexStinton

@MadAussieBloke That's the thing with VR isn't it, people can react very differently to the same game. To its credit at least Windlands has plenty of options to try and help us mere mortals get through it. We can't all be Gods of VR like you.

Re: Review: Mafia III (PS4)

AlexStinton

@Frank90 I never played The Godfather II, but I wouldn't classify Mafia III as garbage. It has a lot going for it, but to have most of the game made up of such cookie cutter objectives, is hugely disappointing. Especially since the opening to the game - which is pretty linear - is really, really good.

Re: Video: Set Phasers to Fun with Star Trek Online PS4 Gameplay

AlexStinton

@FullbringIchigo It would appear I have way more holes in my Star Trek knowledge than I first thought.

I'm glad you're enjoying Star Trek Online, I imagine it's a dream come true for someone like yourself.

Out of interest, have you found any missions that aren't resolved using a phaser or photon torpedo?
