I would agree that, had this been a better year for gaming, P.T. probably would not have been considered for a game of the year award, or might not have got enough votes to make the list. That said, P.T. for all that it's primary purpose is as a teaser to announce Silence Hills is still a game and a pretty damn gripping and atmospheric one throughout its short length. It's surprise release and surprising purpose definitely makes it one of the major highlights of what was otherwise mostly hum-drum year for the PS4 and gaming in general.
I'm surprised to be saying this after all the remastered titles we got this year, but my most anticipated games of 2015 at the moment are Double Fine's special editions of Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle, two of my all-time favorite games that I never in a million years expected to see revived for the new generation.
I'm also looking forward to all the usual suspects: The Order, Uncharted 4, Persona 5, No Man's Sky, Arkham Knight. Dying Light might turn out okay but I'm actually more looking forward to Hellraid from Techland, though I'm not sure if that one's gonna actually make it out in 2015.
Not sure if this is really the place to discuss this, but I continue to be baffled by how Telltale determines the pricing for these games. On PS4 (and presumably PS3, Xbox One and 360) Game of Thrones at six episodes is $5 per episode or $25 for the season, while on PC your only option is to buy the full season for $30. The five episode Tales From the Borderlands $5 an episode or $20 for the season. (Or $25 for just the whole season on PC). The Walking Dead Seasons One and Two and The Wolf Among us, at five episodes each, all go for $25 on PS4. Is it too much to ask for a little pricing consistency amongst releases and formats?
Yeah, wow, no clue, but I guess we don't have long until we find out. As someone else pointed out, I don't think that forest is live footage but it looks too good to be straight up game footage, so either cutscene or running on a super pumped up computer. Typical teaser trailer BS.
I'm glad this turned out well though yeah, there seems to an effort to closely tie this into the rest of the Borderlands series as a continuation of events after Borderlands 2, possibly to set up events for the inevitable Borderlands 3. As such this is going to be less accessible to people who aren't familiar with the source material. I think those unfamiliar will mostly be able to follow along, but a lot of gags and references and one particular plot development will be meaningless to newcomers.
I don't care who "won" Black Friday. I own a PS4, but want to get an Xbone eventually and strongly considered picking one up with the deals they were offering though I ultimately passed. Maybe next year. PS4 has remained ahead for the last ten months, but both consoles are doing well and that's a good thing for the industry. It's just as silly for Sony fans to rationalize Microsoft's potential Black Friday performance as it is for MS fans to be excited about this. I care about games, not brands.
You say that as if it were ever a question. There has never been a "need" to sell DLC, it's always been just a way for publishers to make more money off an already released game. I'm not against DLC in principle myself, but the truth is most DLC sucks. Some doesn't of course, but buying a Season Pass unless you get a good deal or something is almost always a mistake. Better to wait and see what the DLC is and how it turns out. This has been a good outcome for Unity season pass holders, but only because of the sorry state the game released in and Ubisoft's willingness to go above and beyond to apologize.
Was expecting this until next year, figured the first ep would drop the same week as the premier of Season 5. Getting it this soon is a nice surprise. I'm a big Game of Thrones and a Telltale Games fan so I've been looking forward to it since it was announced. Curious to see what it'll cost, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
@BLPs For the same reason it's legal to release games in which you kill people, but that wouldn't be advisable in real life. I find games like this weird and a bit creepy, but some people enjoy them and there's nothing wrong with that as long as they aren't replicating these actions in real life.
I have no exciting stories to relate regarding the PS4 launch, but here's a fun fact: In over thirty years as a gamer, the PS4 is only the second console I've purchased on launch day and the first since the Sega Dreamcast.
Some of you seem to be missing the point. Pachter is VERY good at his job. He's not making predictions he thinks will prove accurate, he's making predictions he knows will be controversial. Analyst Predicts PS4 On Top For Ninth Straight Month would not get him headlines, but this Xbone nonsense did. You laugh, but every time he does this he's rewarded with headlines at every major gaming site and blog. He's paid to troll the gaming industry and he's very good at it.
The game sounds promising but then, so did Basement Crawl. I'll be interested to see how this game turns out, but I'm not really anticipating it in any way.
To the people asking if the actual game will be first person, why would they bother to get a recognizable star like Norman Reedus and put his likeness in the game as the protagonist, Only to hide it away by making the game first person? It may have some first person bits though, like in Silent Hill 4 which I actually rather enjoyed.
@odd69 Remastered games aren't for you, they're for people who never owned a PS3 or who for whatever ever never got around to playing them on PS3. A few people will also double dip, but so what, it's their money to spend and nobody would be doing these remasters if they had to rely on repeat customers because there just aren't going to be that many.
As I've said elsewhere regarding this issue, many people complaining about these ports seem to think the alternative is new games when the truth is, this early in the console's lifespan, the alternative is fewer games. Complain if you must, but those of who never got to play The Last of Us or Journey or The Unfinished Swan are perfectly happy to have them on PS4.
Also, I may be in the minority here, but I'm looking forward to a remaster - the upcoming PS4 remake of Grim Fandango - then I am any brand new game currently in the pipeline.
Since I never owned a PS3, I'm all for PS3 exclusives making their way over to the PS4, but I doubt we'll be seeing too many more beyond the ones we already know of. They've gotta save SOMETHING for Playstation Now, after all. As for new games, they're on their way, but the PS4 isn't even a year old. I don't know, I honestly don't remember people being this impatient with previous consoles, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
The Vita has some very nice games available for it and this could make for a nice budget level/entry level console that could do very well if Sony can be bothered to market it the way they haven't done with the Vita. Plus if it's successful, then it might help support for the Vita to pick up, if indirectly.
@voodoo341 People who are angry about re-releases always bring up this nebulous notion that they're taking away from development of original games when that is, in fact, utter nonsense. The original games are coming, but we're still in the first year of the PS4's release, traditionally a very lean time for any console. You seem to think the alternative to re-releases is new games when actually it's no games.
"the untapped nation represents a potential audience of over one billion"
Sure, and my posterior has the potential to transform into a high-speed primate dispenser.
But yeah, Sony and Microsoft could sell a fair few consoles in China. Will they though, that's the question. Considering the types of games that tend to do well in China, it's by no means a sure thing.
As a big fan of trivia games I took a chance on this and soon regretted it. Still, for some reason I decided to try for all of the game's trophies. I failed at this only because one of the trophies was glitched and remained so for several months, just one more sign of the shoddiness of this release. This is one PS4 exclusive I doubt Sony will be bragging on any time soon. I'll third the motion for a new Buzz game on PS4. Or how about a new You Don't Know Jack, I love those games and the last one was pretty good, even if the PC version did regrettably lack the online play seen in the console versions. Or really any decent trivia game will do. It's sad that this is the only option for PS4 owning trivia buffs at the moment.
I'm a little surprised both games for PS4 this month are previously released titles. I know there are still a number of games set for release that have been promised as PS+ freebies, I guess none of them are ready for release yet. Anyway, I already own Strider and am not all that interested in Towerfall as it's primarily a multiplayer title.
@ZeD The bad ending is better in that it's hilarious, but it really makes no sense. Of course, as has been pointed out to me, neither really does the good path where Delsin becomes Seattle Jesus. This is why I've never liked the moral choice gimmick in games (Except in the Witcher games, where the outcome of your choices is often unexpected and making "good" choices may have bad consequences and vice versa.), it basically hamstrings the narrative, forcing stale, binary good and evil paths rather than a single path featuring a potentially complex and conflicted protagonist. It's left to the supporting cast to do the heavy lifting in terms of character drama because the main guy is stuck being either Dudley Do-Right or Snidely Whiplash.
All I wanna know is, does this mean they're finally gonna get around to making EVERY PSP game on Playstation Network compatible with the Vita? Because that is way past due.
"Sony is in more markets," is a fine answer. "More people are buying PS4's because they didn't like the PS3," is spaceman logic. Five million units is still a lot, there's really no need to make up excuses. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
@charlesnarles Hell, I paid $30 each for my two years of PS+, so it's more like $2.50 a month. Seems worth it to me whatever games Sony offers and they've offered some good ones so far. I've already beaten Stick It to the Man on Vita, but for no extra charge I'll probably give it another shot on PS4.
I've never played a CoD game. I doubt I ever will. My main interest in the franchise is curiosity as to how many more years this can go on before Activision drive the franchise into the ground like they did with Guitar Hero.
I saved up money for a PS4 and then I bought a PS4. I did have to step over some burning poor people to get to the store. I thought that was pretty heroic of me.
Seriously, good on this kid. It's a good thing he did.

@Axel210 The PS3 is eight years old and has sold 80 million units, I doubt Sony is too concerned about it losing exclusives at this point. Also yes, new games I want and new game we'll get, but given that I haven't ever played most of the PS3's exclusives and the whole Playstation Now thing is still up in the air in terms of what it'll cost and how well it will work, I don't object to some of the PS3's exclusive makign their way to the PS4 in enhanced editions the way they did with a bunch of PS2 titles for PS3.
Well I guess there goes the prevailing theory that it was held back to serve as next month's free PS+ title on PS4, which of course raises the question, why the heck WAS IT delayed?
@antony Why should you spend money on this game? You shouldn't, save it for games that actually appeal to you. I'm glad I could help you clear up that mystery.
@Shellybird27 I think a more relevant question is, why are some gamers seemingly unable to just say, "This doesn't look like my kind of game," and leave it at that.
"I don't like this genre and the gameplay looks dull, but maybe if it had nicer graphics . . ." said no one ever.
