Re: Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team Reportedly in Development

GingerSilent

Here’s the thing, I 100% support Bloober making a new SH game

Key word: “New”. What we saw last week had me optimistic for a new modern SH, but SH2 is one of the most important video games of all time, both in general and in its genre, and there’s really no way to play it as it originally was on PS2.

The PC port is garbage and only saved by fan mods and hacks (thanks Team Silent, taking SH2’s source code seemed like a good way to give Konami the finger, too bad it’s also giving fans new and old the finger too)

And the PS3/360 HD collection is also a bad port, and emulation is shotty at best.

The point is, when a game as no way of being properly enjoyed by modern players, you need a remake that is extremely faithful with only maybe a few changes (BluePoint’s Remake of Demon’s Souls being a prime example) but a remake taking a liberties with the source material of which the original is not readily available is not a good idea.

Namely “reworking” puzzles sounds like dumbing down to me, the puzzles need to be cerebral and complex, and if too challenging that’s what the difficulty options for puzzles is for.

Point being, I will still endorse and support Bloober making a SH game and keep an open mind, but I really think they’re better suited for something new rather than a remake of an important classic

Re: Rumour: Supposed Silent Hill Leak Reveals New Images, Quickly Taken Down

GingerSilent

@Nepp67 walking simulator is a gross oversimplification of modern horror game design and a term that wish people would stop using.

You do more in the Layers games than just simply walking, you solve puzzles, interact with the environment, and experience symbolism and visual storytelling.

All things the SH games did, the only difference being combat. In fact it’s worth arguing that SH influenced their entire body of work, they’re clearly fans; in the medium, Bloober proved they were able to imitate a lot of the gameplay and presentation of a classic SH (namely that game’s other world mechanic), I can’t give it further praise beyond that as I didn’t get very far due to technical issues with my PC.

Re: Rumour: Supposed Silent Hill Leak Reveals New Images, Quickly Taken Down

GingerSilent

The lack of respect for western horror developers is baffling, I agree that Japanese developed horror games are great but people, the uncomfortable reality is that Japanese developed horror games are just not common place anymore.

These leaked images feel too specific to be fake, and honestly I like what is being presented here.

Give Bloober Team a chance, they have a solid understanding of what makes a competent horror game, and if SH fans want the series to return they need to be a bit more realistic and be a bit more accepting of what they might be given

Re: This Is What the GTA Trilogy Looks Like on PS5, PS4

GingerSilent

I see alot of people throwing the sentence "they should have just done a remake" and I can understand the want, but when you talk about remaking something, that means, new assets, new character models, new map textures, made on modern hardware from the ground up.

you what that costs folks? time and money. time and money that could go towards something new, that's why they went the remastered route here, and frankly, I like what they're doing here, it's more than just a resolution bump, plus it has quality of life features and everything, so honestly, I think Rockstar deserves credit for putting in far more effort than they had to, because reality is, as long as its not broken at launch people will buy this and it will do well, even if it was just resolution bump put on a physical disc.

Re: Sony Allegedly Funding Kojima Productions Silent Hill Game

GingerSilent

So unpopular opinion, but this obnoxious, endless rumor could literally be fixed if the supposed devs would just whip a cinematic teaser announcing that they are real, and are coming when they’re ready.

But no, we live in a. World of instant gratification where gamers throw tantrums if they don’t see gameplay immediately, yet cinematic teasers like Insomniac’s Wolverine can generate so much excitement

Point is: it would be nice if publishers like Konami would stop pandering to the vocal minority of gamers that despise cinematic trailers, and throw something together to announce so this EVER ANNOYING RUMOR CYCLE can die already

Re: Konami Confirms Partnership with Bloober Team, Fuelling Silent Hill Rumours

GingerSilent

And while we’re talking about SH you know what really sucks?

The looming shadow of Silent Hills.

Unpopular Opinion: Silent Hills didn’t work out in the end and that really sucks, but we have to let it die, or at the very least put it out of our minds.
cause the fact that people cling so hard to the cancelled project is hurting a lot of people making games right now, and the relentless rumors are making things so much worse.

And when I say people I mean people like Kojima, Blue Box Games (even if they brought the PR damage on themselves), and now Bloober. All anyone wants is Silent Hills cause they think Konami/Kojima can conjure up something that will meet those high expectations. Nobody is asking for something new or safe from the franchise, hell, people forget that Silent Hills was intended as a reboot of the franchise, so how do we know the gameplay could work today?

I want to make something very clear, I am not defending Bloober because I think there’s no chance they could make a bad SH game, there’s a very real possibility that it could crash and burn.
but for me personally, I like the people at Bloober, I like their passion for horror games, I like that they’re able to make horror games in a relatively triple A capacity, considering how niche the genre really is, and most importantly they are capable of making a horror game, even if it’s an average one at best, so I’m giving them a chance, for their sake, and for SH

Re: Konami Confirms Partnership with Bloober Team, Fuelling Silent Hill Rumours

GingerSilent

@UnlimitedSevens there’s founded Pessimism and unfounded Pessimism, it would be one thing if you weren’t a fan of Bloober’s work and they presented a SH game didn’t look very good, that would be understandable pessimism.

But In my opinion, having pessimism towards a game that we know nothing about or seen anything of beyond the fact that Konami confirmed the partnership with Bloober, is more than a little unfair.

We will never know what new talent is capable of unless we give them a chance, and further more, if fans support this possible SH game regardless of of whether it’s average or not, that will tell Konami that people truly care, and truly want more, and that it’s not just a vocal minority of their fans crying out for it

Re: Konami Confirms Partnership with Bloober Team, Fuelling Silent Hill Rumours

GingerSilent

@Dr_ENT why would Platinum Games make a silent hill game? They’re a action/hack and slash developer. There’s no evidence to suggest that the bad blood between Kojima and Konami is gone. And after Tango is done with Ghostwire they’re becoming a first party developer for Xbox.

So I don’t see any other prominent Japanese horror developer that could make a new SH title. And good luck ever getting team silent back together

Re: Sony Confirms PS3, PS Vita, PSP Store Closures, Downloads Will Be Retained

GingerSilent

you know what I think really killed virtual console for sony and nintendo?

Remasters and Remakes.

Think about it, why bother with making contracts with the publishers, upscaling their games to the highest possible resolution and adding trophy support only to throw it onto PSN only and probably have to share profits with sony, when they can easily do a remastered collection of titles and put them on a physical disc, slap a 30-40 dollar price tag on it and throw it onto store shelves and make more of a profit.

to be fair this mostly a presumption on my part, but I honestly don't think it's that out there of a theory.

Re: Soapbox: The Real Problem with Sony's State of Play Livestreams

GingerSilent

And what sucks too is that a lot of cool announcements/trailers get overshadowed by the disappointment of a lack luster SoP.

Kena getting a release date is awesome,(even if it's later than we had hoped) Sifu looks cool, Solar Ash looks cool, Oddworld being free for PS+ is awesome, and FF7 PS5 version looked great too!

SoP just lacks the excitement that a Nintendo Direct brings because Nintendo throws all of the cards down for each and every one of them no matter how disappointing, and plus, they're consistent and confident in their formula.

With SoP, Sony is constantly changing the look and presentation, and clearly they're not confident in it, otherwise, they would even things out with a few big surprises here and there but no, they'd rather all big stuff during E3 season cause they're more confident in those presentations

Re: Soapbox: The Real Problem with Sony's State of Play Livestreams

GingerSilent

I think the problem with the State of Play formula is that sony sets expectations and meets them.... to a fault. They leave very little room for surprises and when they do try to surprise us it's generally underwhelming.

Which leads to a problem that I personally feel Sony has had for a while now, and that's the fact that they save ALL of their big, and exciting Surprises for E3 season and then dip out the rest of the year. They don't spread news throughout the year evenly and as a result we're left with long info droughts.

And I've felt this way long before Covid-19, remember when PlayStation Experience was a thing? Remember when Sony used to have an annual Gamescom Press Conference? As the years roll on they are pulling away from more media events, and leaving us in the dark, then randomly and almost last minute-like throwing announcements at us (Example: Rift Apart's Release date reveal)

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony's State of Play Livestream Meet Your Expectations?

GingerSilent

You know what the problem is with the State of Play format?

Sony always sets expectations and meets them.... to a fault, they really don’t leave a whole lot of room for surprises and the surprises they do have for the format are generally underwhelming

Which I feel leads to an issue that I’ve had with Sony for a long time now is that they save ALL of their big surprises and announcements for E3 season, they don’t spread announcements evenly throughout the year and as a result we’re left with long info drought periods

Re: Bloober Team Working on a Horror Game with a 'Very Famous Gaming Publisher'

GingerSilent

I don't see what the big issue is with Bloober developing a new silent hill game.

personally, I think Bloober is a competent team that understand makes a good horror game, I've played just about everything they've put out (except for Observer and Medium) and I've always felt they did a good job with what they had.

there's a lot of comments here saying bloober puts out a lot of "6/10" games and you know what? what's wrong with that? it's like people think if a game isn't a 10/10 then it's a bad game, in my opinion there's nothing wrong with being average and enjoyable.

That's not to say that there isn't a possibility that a SH developed by them ending up bad, but honestly if we want to see the series return, we should welcome a new SH game developed by team with experience in horror with open arms, or at the very least with cautious optimism.

Re: Veteran Sony Bend Directors Depart After Decades

GingerSilent

I just hope whoever is the narrative lead on a possible Days Gone 2 understands what made the first game's story and characters so captivating and enjoyable.

Of course I'm still interested in whatever is next for the studio, be it DG2, Syphon Filter, or a new IP

Re: The Last of Us 2 Leak Leaves Director 'Heartbroken'

GingerSilent

can we all agree on one thing?

that thing being that even if the story sucks ass, at least the game play and visuals will be great?

cause I'll tell you it's very, very rare that I enjoy a game's game play over it's story and that's how I feel about the first LoU, its a decent story with decent characters but as ive said before here on PS, I hate the game's ending and for a while hated the game feeling it dumps all over the experience, upon my replay I realized I still hate the ending but loved everything else about the game, mainly the gameplay, it was so fun and immersive for me that I said to myself "you know what? even a bad a story cant ruin the fun I'm having right now"

and that's why I just can't not play this sequel, and I'll tell you I hate woke storytelling and tired of cults in stories in media cause they're all the same, Remember the RIPers from DAYS GONE? That's was a cool and unqiue take on cults in the apocalypse! anyway going back to my main point, I've seen the leaks and know I probably wont enjoy the story but the gameplay we've seen so far looks too fun to say no for me. but I understand why people are so turned off they wont play it going off the leaks and thats fair but at this point, I have to play it for myself. sorry for the novel lol ^_^U

Re: Game of the Decade: The Last of Us Changed the Face of Interactive Storytelling Forever

GingerSilent

@Neolit I just feel Joel’s actions we’re irrationally selfish, yeah Ellie was like a daughter to him and yeah they probably didn’t ask her if she was okay with dying for the cure, but as we learn later on and in the Left Behind DLC, Ellie was ready and willing to die.

but because she is like a daughter to Joel, he slaughters a building full of fire flies and Lies to Ellie about the whole thing.

I’m not sure if the game was trying to do a whole “humanity sucks so f*** it” kind of message with the ending but if it was that’s horrible, we may like these post apocalyptic stories but we don’t realistically want to live in them, and if we had to sacrifice someone or something important for the betterment of mankind I’d hope we would do it.

But that’s just my opinion.

Re: Game of the Decade: The Last of Us Changed the Face of Interactive Storytelling Forever

GingerSilent

I’ll be honest

I used to hate this game, it was one of the most praised games of its time, which I didn’t get what the hub-bub was all about, and back then I remember being a pissed off Jak and Daxter fan, seeing Naughty Dog break their whole, “one franchise per console” rule, but when I did play it I really loved it!..... except for one small problem.

The ending really, really sucks, and I mean the kind of suckage that s***s all over the story and ruined the game for me for a very long time, I’m sorry but the ending is arguably the worst aspect of the game in my opinion

However, when TLOU Remastered was available on PS+ I decided to give the game another chance, and while I still hate the ending of the game and still think it s***s on the journey, I actually appreciate the game more now than ever! I love a lot of the fun gameplay mechanics in TLOU, from the upgrade system to the crafting system, it’s just so much fun, and the presentation is really good too! And there’s also something about TLOU’s world building that really pulls me into its world.

I’m conclusion, love the game, hate the ending, not a big fan of some parts of the story, and definitely looking forward to Part 2!

Re: Remothered: Broken Porcelain Could Be One of 2020's Best PS4 Horror Games

GingerSilent

Though it’s not a wrong comparison Remothered draws more from Clock Tower than any other horror game and I guess we could compare it to Haunting Ground but I think that what sets HG from Remothered and even Clock Tower is that HG places a greater focus on exploration rather than the hiding mechanic

Speaking of which could one argue that Clock Tower And Haunting Ground laid down the rules for these hide and seek, underpowered protagonist horror games, like Outlast and so on?
