Re: More Brand New Games to Launch for Free with PS Plus

Hyperluminal

Even better than that Ratchet and Clank is being given away free to all playstation owners to keep for good in March.

Sure it was on PSPlus previously but some may have missed it for whatever reason, and only an arse would complain about such a good game being given away.

Edit: just noticed you've reported on it earlier ๐Ÿ˜„

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

I did say I simplified it. It is true in essence.

Here's the full breakdown:

First even if there is no warranty offered you are protects by you statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015)

Within 30 days the retailer must offer a full refund for faulty goods.

Within 6 months: the retailer must demonstrate that the customer is at fault. itโ€™s up to the retailer to prove that the customer caused the problem with the product; if they canโ€™t, theyโ€™ll have to repair or replace the product or give you a refund if thatโ€™s not possible.

After 6 months: the customer will have to prove that any faults are not down to misuse of the product or general wear and tear. This might require them to obtain an expert report, opinion or evidence of similar problems across the product range. Factors such as the price, the specification/model of the goods, the length of time youโ€™ve had the goods and the length of time which they should last will all be considerations.

Claims can be made up to 6 years after the original purchase. That is the legal time limit to bring a case to small claims court to reclaim your losses.

All this is still possible regardless of having a valid warranty, an expired warranty or no warranty at all. It all falls within your statutory rights.

@BloodNinja tries your patience?! You've got a very low threshold if someone who's talking to you politely does that to you. But then I guess you have quite the inflated opinion of yourself considering the fatuous signature you insist on using on every comment. I've no problem if you're opinionated, goodness knows I am too.

I did watch the video. The video at 2.40 is not the answer to the rhetorical question is was asking. At all. That's why I didn't consider that was what you were talking about.

Thanks for your help. Shame the conversation became strained in the space of 4 posts.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

@BloodNinja the manufactuer estimates? Sorry I'm confused. I was under the impression that the video was done by a third party, not Sony. Have I made a mistake? The findings from the video is from a small sample, and its very helpful to see what they found, but on its own it doesn't mean dualsense has a systemic problem.

I'm also not arguing with you for the sake of it, i dont know why you're saying that. I could quite easily say the same to you but ill be more respectful than to assume that's what you are doing because up until now I though we were just having a conversation.

Re: Soapbox: The State of Play Branding Seems Confused

Hyperluminal

Im not sure it's worth thinking that deeply about Sony's State of Play presentations and what they should conform to. It not something I've ever paused for thought on, and the ones I've seen have been informative and interesting. Even if they differ wildly from one presentation to another it doesn't matter, as long as they keep us updated the format doesn't bother me.

I don't need to wait for a reveal or nugget of info to be shown on a specific video, I rather get that knowledge as soon as is possible so if that means one show has less content or appears less relevant than another I'm not bothered.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

@BloodNinja it gives me an idea of that one controller they tested.

It was a rhetorical question. I didn't expect someone to answer because the figures are not public. My point was more about perceptions and expectations intensified through the prism of Joy-Con failures, and the dumb warranty laws in America.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

@BloodNinja I've watched the video. There's no mention of the failure rate of the dualsense. We don't know for sure how many have the problem in relation to how many are in use.

I can understand why its a big problem in America. The stupid, consumer-unfriendlyness of the warranty over there is ridiculous. Thank goodness its much easier here in the UK to get the retailer to take responsibility and exchange the product if its under 6 months or offer repair then replacement/refund under a year (these terms have been simplified but in essence thats how it is)

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

@BloodNinja ok thanks. Thats the test of that one controller, and i don't question that they fail. They estimate 400 hours. Some will fail before then, some will fail after, some not at all. All controllers from every console generation have had issues. Ive had multiple dualshocks fail. I've had an Elite fail. I had issues with my Dreamcast and N64 controllers. My Quickshot joysticks used to fail. I've got a very expensive G29 steering wheel that's in pieces because the paddles failed.

My question is what is the actual failure rate of the dualsense? The Joy-Con problems seem to have put the microscope on all controller issues like never before because we've never had so much coverage of drift in the past.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

Seems to me the law in North America is *****. In the UK we have statutory rights meaning we have 1 year warranty on all products, and its the retailer not the manufacturer that's responsible. It seems mad to me that over there its only 3 months and the retailer has no responsibility.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Hyperluminal

I don't feel like there's any more issues with Dualsense than there were with any other controller from other generations, but because Nintendo Joy-Cons are so fundamentally defective, moreso than any other controller in console history, now all news about drift is reported on and emphasised.

I had multiple PS4 controllers that eventually had drift. I had an Elite controller with drift. I can't remember much in the way of consistent news about it. Joy-Con failure is so prominent that all drift issues make big news. Thats understandable. But do we actually know what the failure rate for dualsense is?

Re: Hopeful PS5 Owners Are Fighting Back Against Scalpers in India

Hyperluminal

That is commendable. Its a shame actual retailers are effectively profiteering too.

Last week I managed to log into my simplygames account after j received an alert that they were selling PS5s on the Wednesday (or whenever it was. I have a PS5 but I'm trying to get one for a friend and he's useless at this kind of thing) It seems as PS5s come back into stock that retailers will only sell them as a bundle so, after confirming with my mate, I had to buy the PS5 for ยฃ680, including games he doesn't really want.

Whilst retailers aren't breaking any laws I find its pretty distasteful that they're taking advantage of the situation in this way.

@rjejr sadly it is true about the psychology of phishing scams and taboola advertising presenting themselves in such a way. You're right they would attract scorn, but the people who would ridicule the poor grammar are not the people they're targeting to fool into accepting the scam.

It is true what you say about puns though. They are a very good way of attracting attention, that's why the subheader is usually a pun ๐Ÿ˜

I can't start the day without coffee either. Black, no sugar, stronger the better ๐Ÿ˜

Re: It Took More Than Two, But Madcap Co-Op Romp It Takes Two Is Finished

Hyperluminal

@rjejr youre right it is. In the case of the headline, if it were written in the normal fashion only the name of the game would've been capitalised, there would be no ambiguity or room for misunderstanding.

It baffles me as to why websites have adopted this odd way of presenting their articles.

In regards of taboola it's a psychological tool to draw attention to the article in a way that appeals to those predisposed to being subconsciously attracted to its imperfect grammar as it's in line with their own, similar to how taboola advertising and scam/phishing emails use the technique before it was adopted by the mainstream. Those people will be more susceptible to whatever suggestions that containing advert/email are trying to impress.

I can't believe its because it makes anything easier to comprehend and its certainly not simpler to type, so that only leaves that its done to generate more clicks. Its a reason why Eurogamer is the best site on the net, they've resisted going down this road.

Having said that PS is very good in its own right for different reasons. But there's always room for improvement, and this one thing would make a HUGE difference even though on the surface it would be a subtle change. To me it would set it apart from so many other sites and clear signal that this is a quality site.

Re: It Took More Than Two, But Madcap Co-Op Romp It Takes Two Is Finished

Hyperluminal

@rjejr i totally empathise. The way each word in the headline is needlessly capitalised often makes understanding what's being said more troublesome than it needs to be. Its caught me out a couple of times. I hope the suggestion to return to the standard format rather than taboola-style that was made in the feedback article gets acted on for the sake of clarity.

@Brydontk ahh you're from across the pond. It wasn't you not recognising Rosie and Jim, is was using the word 'tidbit'. We say 'titbit' over here because we like tits ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

Yeah Wrench probably isn't a good fit for a lady, but Rosie is just not doing it for me. Also makes me think of Rosanne Barr, and I really don't want to do that ๐Ÿ˜†

Re: DIRT 5 Getting Free and Premium DLC Later This Month on PS5, PS4

Hyperluminal

@kyleforrester87 once games start using the controller in the manner Astro Room does it will be i think. Borderlands 3 haptics are really good, with each type of gun getting a different trigger setting.

And after WRC09's haptics inclusion its so noticeable to me now playing other racing games without the haptics to the point that I miss it.

Re: Wield a Magic Paintbrush in Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Coming to PS5, PS4 in 2021

Hyperluminal

@Quintumply ahh fair enough. I thought it was another error like in the Valhala guide that spells armour in American in the headline and English in the article. Its because of the use of capital letters for all the words in the headline, so sometimes I find it hard to distinguish nouns from verbs, adverbs, prepositions ect. Thanks for the response, I was just trying to help. I notice a few gramatical errors creep in from time to time, I don't always say so, but I think its important to feed stuff like that back seeing as it makes the site look more professional. Hope you don't mind.

@hypnotoad I still have a soft spot for Jon Hare - Sensible Software. His games on the Amiga were special. Actually the Amiga was special. The best generation out of them all. The Amiga was a sublime machine and those days were the peak of pure gaming.

I pity anyone who didn't live through it and has only known gaming since we've had the internet.
