Re: Metacritic Responds to Ongoing Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review Bombing Campaign

JaxxDuffer

@Flaming_Kaiser - perhaps you do not understand the point being made. Nothing I said mentions freedom of speech, or pandering to entitled gamers. You are putting words in my mouth. I'm saying there are plenty of examples of manipulated critic reviews, that need to be called out.

It is freedom of expression that most of us enjoy that gives us the option to call bad practises out. Maybe some are justified, and others not. We can't have it both ways.

Re: Metacritic Responds to Ongoing Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review Bombing Campaign

JaxxDuffer

The problem with articles like this critiquing review bombing, which may or may not be valid in this case, is that with games like FIFA certain sites have written positive reviews to such an extent they looked to have been bought off, and don’t reflect reality. And then consumers give the real viewpoint calling out bad and terrible pay to win mechanics, especially if publishers update the game after positive reviews. Dragon’s Dogma 2 being one recent example.

For me it goes both ways. Publishers and official review sites are just as bad, if not worse.

Re: Sony Boss Says 'PCs Are Difficult to Set Up', Firm Will Focus on PS5

JaxxDuffer

Even if one could build a PC for the same cost as PS5 Pro, what would be the point? To go through all that hassle building a rig, installing and configuring windows, which is a huge kerfuffle, dealing with launchers and you still have to buy a keyboard, mouse and controller, only to then needing a decent monitor since PCs aren’t living room friendly. One would then want a much more powerful PC to make it worth it, so would cost more.

The PS5 pro is expensive for a home console, and concerning for game preservation and ownership in regards to the blu ray drive, but it’s cheap relative to PC gaming. Though the gap is narrowing.

Re: Talking Point: Can PS5, PC Shooter Concord Be Saved?

JaxxDuffer

If they released/announced Concord along with an announcement of one of their tentpole IPs, or something from Naughty Dog, it would've been a different outcome. As stated in the article, it is a symbol of the live service model, which is fine in itself as a second pillar, but it is seen as replacing what PS fans loves about Playstation.

Also, for me at least, and others who don't have PS Plus, there is an additional cost. Concord does look slick, well made with high production values, but it's only available if one has one of these online membership thingies. So immediately 40% or whatever the value is have no interest in it.

Re: Terminator Survivors Announced for PS5, a Solo or Co-Op Survival Game

JaxxDuffer

Tô me at least, they are tapping into “The Last of Us” vibe but set in Terminator world. Have these people no clue on what makes Terminator, Terminator. Films 1 and 2 are a big clue.

It’s horrendous the gaming world is in a massive decline, and maybe the release of this is too close to ”go live” to change it. But my goodness, this game has epic fail written all over it.

Re: Poll: Is 'Live Service' Becoming an Excuse to Release Unfinished Games?

JaxxDuffer

Live service is a different, another way to play games, and as gaming evolves, having options is a good thing. Though personally I have zero interest in them. The important thing is how it’s implemented, just like most things in life, there are good ways and bad ways. Splatoon is a great example of a live service game. Marvels avengers is a bad example.

Live service, early access, buggy on release, DLC blar blar, are not mutually exclusive. That being said, live service by its very nature will never have an end game. So releasing in a sub par state is par for the course. It is what it is. If it’s not your bag then there many other options available.

Since this is US Square, a PlayStation site, one does have to question Sony’s dipping their toe in the market. They have a model that works and is highly profitable, messing with that will not work well for them. I believe Sony are at a crossroads. They’ve been following the Nintendo route for a while now but seem to be in the middle of a fundamental shift. The future is uncertain.

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

JaxxDuffer

The only reason subs exist in the first place is Microsoft, and the only reason they can do them is their deep pockets. And the only reason M$ set them up is that they thought with such an amazing deal gamers would come flocking over to them. They were wrong. As been mentioned in the article, having access to hundreds of games but little time to play them is pointless and a waste of money.

Spotify, the biggest music subscription service has never made a profit. It’s been kept afloat by investors. Subscription models are not the future.

Re: Reaction: Publishers Are Getting Worse at Nintendo Direct-Style Livestreams

JaxxDuffer

Ubisoft is a French firm but did their showcase in an American format and it was so cringeworthy awful. To be fair, all their E3 showcases were the most horrific, bar EA.

Part of what makes Nintendo directs so good is that they focus on the games, and do it in a Nintendo way. They stick to their strengths. Ubisoft are trying to be something they’re not.

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Being Stingy with PS5's First-Party Pricing?

JaxxDuffer

And yet there still will be people defending digital over physical. I get it, there are advantages with digital but what the PS store tells us is is that if all there ever is to buy games is digital, it will be chuffing expensive. No one wants that.

It’s clear though that the price hike is to make up the loss that PS5s are being sold at. But it’s also commendable for a company to value their products and don’t discount them so much, as Nintendo does. My Switch library is worth a lot more than I paid for it, admittedly with some limited editions, than my PS4 library that’s worth half of what I paid, and that’s after a deep discount on all purchases; I never paid more than £30 for a title.

Re: Naughty Dog's Multiplayer Game Described as Cinematic Experience Between Players

JaxxDuffer

Currently playing TLOU2, and although there were some accidental spoilers on PS, by accident, that gave me an idea of some of criticisms, though I don’t concur, it’s a very enjoyable, yet gripping 😬 game. I get how a multiplayer can work in ND’s world.

But, it’s all about the single player cinematic experience for me. I understand creators, directors, artists wish to flex their muscles, but not at the expense of selling out, which this could be. But if it’s a Lost Legacy approach, then crack on.

Re: Talking Point: How Can Sony Win E3 2018?

JaxxDuffer

Unless Sony come up with a surprise or two, it's Nintendo's to lose. All four of Sony's exclusives look amazing, though half are somewhat unknown, but it's the surprises which thrill and people remember most.

Though MS will no doubt do their usual showing off but delivering nothing, they do have Cyberpunk which is set to be massive.

Re: Guide: Best God of War Games Ranked

JaxxDuffer

@JoeBlogs - having no experience of GOW before I was like a rabbit in some headlights. My gaming tastes and behaviour was also much different then, if a game didn't grab me I would sell it immediately and move on. Now I keep all games I buy and give them all a fair chance.

@Flaming_Kaiser - I have been, though the crime was slightly more than a gaming faux pas.

Re: Guide: Best God of War Games Ranked

JaxxDuffer

I've only played GOW 3 and I couldn't stand it. After ten minutes it was ejected and placed on a popular auction site. However, this new one looks utterly incredible and I can't wait to try it.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter: World (PS4)

JaxxDuffer

I couldn't get into MH on the 3DS, and by the sounds of it I won't on the PS4 either, which is surprising considering the previews and news suggested it was better for non-experienced MH players.

Maybe when the backlog clears I'll give this a shot, but not anytime soon.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

JaxxDuffer

Thing is, there are plenty of examples where on-line only, multiplayer loot infested DLC ridden games have also failed miserably. The market is only so big and some of these games consume so much time there isn't time for others, which is another reason why single player games are so important.

Sure, single player games have taken a beaten but the industry couldn't survive without them. Thankfully Sony and Nintendo know how to make and sell single player games.
