Life-long Yakuza fan, since the first game hit the PS2.
This'll be the first game since Yakuza 3 I won't buy day one to support the studio. I'm not even sure if I'll buy it at all - feeling pretty jaded about the whole thing.
@Hundred_Hand_Slap
Contra was genuinely good, and I think the GBA ports were solid, too, to be fair, but have to disagree on the Castlevania collection - hell of a lot of slow down in there. Then again, hell of a lot of slowdown on the original versions as well, so I suppose you could argue it's authentic.
On as positive note, it's great that people will get the opportunity to play what I feel is a prefect game (the OG Rocket Knight Adventures). However... It's Konami... So... Aye, brace yourselves for something daft.
Kinda a shame about Versus Evil - The Banner Saga was fantastic, so I'm forever grateful for their role in bringing that to my home. Stray Souls, on the other hand, is not fantastic - for Stray Souls, you see, is a load of balls.
@Northern_munkey
Wouldn't really say it's anything like Bioshock - it's more of an Indie/ AA Call of Cthulu. There aren't many enemy variations, and the side missions are pretty much copy and paste, with a lot of encounters and ambushes blatantly telegraphed, so it's repetitive.
That aside, it oozes atmosphere, the side stories are still pretty cool and the morality system actually pays off, if I remember rightly.
A decent game - emphasis on decent - but if Lovecraft and Cosmic Horror are your jam, then this is literally made for you. Glad they secured the rights, because it's obviously a labour of love.
"You never own a 'game'!" - My copy of Rocket Knight Adventures disagrees. I've owned it since 1994, and through those 29 years there's never been the threat of a developer, publisher or distributor taking it away from me. Ryan Lindsay tried to take it off me once, though - but his wee brother stole it back for me.
"Try playing a game you installed to your Console without the Disc, you can't!" - pretty sure I mentioned that Physical discs these days are basically just access keys. Thanks for reiterating what I already know, big man - affirmation is hard to find these days.
Also, the game being installed on a console is nothing to do with ownership - it's about practicality. I don't see Last of Us Part 2 running with a fifth of the current optimisation if the data was read directly from the disc while playing.
"Many games are no-longer 'playable' or major portions of the Game are no longer available due to them deciding to turn off Servers for example." - this is a very fair point, but only really applies to older games that are predominantly online, say, FFXI or Phantasy Star Online. What you fail to mention is that owning physical copies means you can actually still play the game through the use of fan, local or private servers.
Otherwise, loss of access to a game you own physically doesn't really happen historically, especially if it's a single player experience.
Also, if I own a copy of Goldeneye for the N64, then I own a copy for the N64.I don't know anyone in their right mind who would expect or demand to be able to play it on Switch or XBox just because they have a copy for the N64. That's like me owning a copy of Earthworm Jim on the Mega Drive and then expecting to be able to use it on a SNES, too - so I'm not really sure what your point is there.
In fact, I'm not sure what your point is overall, to be honest - do you not like me expecting to have some recompense and substance for my my financial surrenders? If the point you were trying to make was that actually nobody owns anything, because one day we're all going to die and beyond that everything we know, have known and will ever know is going to be broken down beyond even its most fundamental form before fading away with the death of the universe, then you could have just said that, like.
"This means it won't be available to buy, but people will still be able to redownload it."
You're talking balls, mate - Remember the Scott Pilgrim fiasco, yeah? They said the exact same thing about it when it was pulled from PSN, but when I went to redownload it after changing to a Slim, not only could I not redownload it, but Sony told me I never bought it, despite being halfway through a playthrough on my old George Foreman PS3.
These days, Physical copies are basically just access keys and barely finished or even beta builds of a game, but in an era where Digital editions and Subscriptions are pushed as the status quo, at least a Physical purchase allows me to own something that can't be taken away at any given time.
Y'know, I'm so phuqing tired of clicking on articles on here that turn out to be either clickbait or absolute non-issues. This one encompasses both. Later, Push Square.
Kind of glad I've started to peace-out at this generation. Disk-drives, stands, 100 noops+ controllers and inconsistent pricing - from underdog to overlord, how far ye have strayed since the days of "299".
@nessisonett Tell me about it - I have an English friend who consistently mangles my daughter's name, pronouncing "Aoife" like "Ow-fee". I wouldn't be surprised if the bin-lid worked for SE.
@DrVenture69 It's a bit of a hodge-podge, but it's closer to the Scottish dialect rather than Irish, which is my language, but you're pretty much spot on with the "sh-ee" pronunciation. "Cait" is trickier, because, again, dialect and regional differences differ from "cat" to "caw-t", as well as the spelling itself.
There's a cool Irish epic called The Táin, or Táin Bó Cúailnge, which you might be interested in - it's a seminal piece of Irish Mythology, if that's your jam. Not the easiest read for some, but cool all the same.
Both great games, deserving in their own ways, but I can't help but feel that the legacy of FF7, which a few people are alluding to, actually tarnishes the game itself. Bloodborne and its creators have yet to give in to the hype and outcry for more, which I'd argue helps to preserve it as a focused, contained experience. FF7 on the other hand...
To each their own, but is 30fps really that bad? it's likely just me, but as long as the frame rate is consistent, there's no screen-tearing and the experience itself is good (story, gameplay, etc), then I'm a happy camper.
Life-long FF fan here. This was one of the few games that I finished and thought, "Y'know, I think I'll do that again." Very, very different, but also very, very good - my experience was genuinely seamless. Bring on the DLC!

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 'Hugely Improved' on PS5 Pro, a 'Night and Day' Difference
Currently playing Rebirth - I don't need to spend 700 noops to solve complaints I don't have.
I'm absolutely loving it and that's all that matters.

Hands down the best thing I've ever read on PushSquare, while also being visually striking.
Bravo.

Re: Alan Wake 2 Has a Performance Mode on PS5, But It's Been Built as a '30FPS Experience'
60 FPS is way better than 30 FPS because you're getting twice as many FPS, so you're basically getting a free game, which is way better value.
Come on people - it's, like, economics 101.
