Re: Like It or Not, This Is Why PS5 Pro Doesn't Have a Disc Drive

Northlander

But if they remove the ability to use optical media the data will obviously show a false increase in digital. If you still want to game. I just find reports like this nothing more than feeding the echo chamber. There are many other areas of industry where you see people constantly ask for collectors editions of games, or just publishers releasing physical versions of their games, they even promote such activity. Plus we all bang on about the golden age of gaming and being able to play classic old games on original hardware, especially the Megadrive and SNES era, with digital, Sony has never wanted to let you use your OG PS1, PS2 or even PS3 games....they could have easily added software emulation into the PS4 or 5 to recognise our old PlayStation games, no they want you to buy digital versions yet again. And don't think it ends there, look at Dino Crisis. The digital version of a PS1 game, but you can't even buy it, unless you have paid £120 for their abhorrent PS+ upgrade. So don't promote the rise of digital or lack of a blu-ray drive as a good thing. They are making mugs of you all.

Re: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Showcases the Problem with Sony's Games on PS5 Pro

Northlander

What I get pO'd with....they never doubled down on PS4 pro enhanced games, Sony were clear from the start, no Pro exclusive games, it was up to the Devs, and in the end, we got very little improvements, and games still plagued with performance OR quality settings. This time it feels like they are forcing a drive for PS5 pro exclusive PS4 games as some sort of win. !!!SKCOLLOB

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

Northlander

The whole gaming industry is on a course of self destruction...prices go up, yet virtually every game is broken in some way upon launch. If you bought a new TV and something didn't work, you'd return it, you wouldn't wait around until Matsui sent you a new button or dial to fit yourself. The whole thing is becoming weary. Don't have the same passion or interest in the video game hobby these days. Bring back £1.99 budget games on cassette

Re: Round Up: What Was Announced During Sony's State of Play Livestream for September 2024?

Northlander

It is clear that I have finally outgrown the PlayStation brand. I've been a gamer across many platforms since '82, and the state of modern gaming, especially within the linear limited console market, it's has had its day for me. I'm not the target audience now looking at that dire list. I stopped buying first party games back during the PS3 era. A return to PC is now where I shall use my disposable income, for the gaming experiences I want, that consoles will always be unable to offer.

Re: Cities: Skylines 2 PS5 Delayed Further to Meet Stability, Performance Aims

Northlander

I cancelled my preorder and went back to Cities 1 (PS5 remaster) I know what I'm getting, have all the DLC from the PS4 version and I know it works and it does everything I need from a city builder. Cities 2 will always have the stigma of a broken and delayed game for me, not to mention a lot of what is currently in Cities 1, is missing from Cities 2. I'll pass...

Re: Many, Many More Major Xbox Games Are Being Plotted for PS5

Northlander

MSFS is all I'm interested in....as a PC sim gamer from way back in the day, I'm always looking for decent PS5 sims these days, and from what I've seen from the XB version, it looks like they achieved the brief of taking what essentially is a bread and a butter standard on PC hardware, to work with a controller on XB hardware. And if we're being honest, should be even better on PS5 hardware in comparison, especially if they add enhanced features to the controls as the Dualsense has many more features that would benefit a flight sim. (I'm thinking using the motion controls as a way to use "head look" around the cockpit instead of using the standard right stick)

Re: PS5 Packaging No Longer Mentions 8K, Some Fans Accuse Sony of False Advertising

Northlander

I blame the sheep that believe this BS more than Sony advertising this....it's just like the No Man's Sky trolls that, in their own heads, believed what was in the game, not what the devs said wasn't in the game, here we are again. IQ"s must have dropped since the similar claims were made with PS4pro. We still cannot guarantee 60fps now, resolution is the least of your worries. It's all BS to sell TV's, not games. Sony cares more about PC than their own brand.

Re: Microsoft Leadership Reportedly Want No 'Red Line' Stopping Xbox Games Coming to PS5

Northlander

To be fair, take SEGA, they became a software business, and survive to tell the tale. Way back at the start of the PS1 era, I gamed on PC and PS1, PC for simulation games (MS Studio games too) Gram Turismo and CMR rally on PS1. So when XB came along, it wasn't important "if" I was interested in anything that was going to be on XB it was probably better on PC, so that's where I was. PS1 remained very GT specific. Moving towards 2025, I see no issue with MS dropping XB as a platform to rebrand as MS Games to become multi platform. Because it would mean that they potentially would have a whole new amount of gamers that may buy games they couldn't have in the past. Surely makes good business sense? Let's also consider that just because a franchise on XB that might have bombed over there, might hit it off on a different platform with different players. I fir one as a PS5 gamer would jump on MSFS, but how many XB players are invested in their own franchise? I'd love to see the numbers of how many PS gamers vs XB gamers consider themselves hardcore 'console' sim gamers? I've always felt XB ganers are more into their sports games compared to PS gamers, but this might be just me.

Re: New PS2 Emulator Appears to Be Imminent on PS5, PS4

Northlander

Click bait award 2024. I wish game journalists could learn what an emulator actually is. Having a version of an old game that has been modified to run on modern hardware, does not an emulator make. A true PS2 emulator would be a stand alone program that we'd load up then put PS2 discs into our PlayStations to play through the emulator. Best case would actually be an emulator added to the PlayStation OS.

Re: Jurassic World Management Sim Under Construction at Frontier Developments

Northlander

No way will it be another F1 manager...didn't the last one absolutely bomb, and there were many comments from ex-devs slating the company direction. And with massive hit to their finances, Braben quiting...FDEV is a shadow of what it was. Their problem was they didn't work on a next gen version of ED. This franchise had a massive following and multiple potential revenue streams. But they burnt all those bridges. I for one won't touch anything from that company. They had a golden chance to take Elite further but they tried to make it an FPS (it's not) It's a space trading / combat game. If I want planetary biology gameplay, or base assault combat. I'll play NMS. The biggest issue FDEV had, was the Cobra engine was too old, and needed updating to cope with what they were adding. It was like 1 step forward, 2 back. Every update broke something else. The toxic online space is probably an echo chamber for PC fanboys and the woke crowd these days. Good riddance!

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

Northlander

We went through the false PS4 Pro era (let's be honest the PS4 Pro was designed to sell 4k TV's) where we had a choice of performance or quality modes in a small number of games. On reflection very little came of what the PS4 Pro brought to gaming, other than a quiter fan (well the first two years). On paper the hardware spec of the PS5 should run well at 60fps, but yet again the entitlement of some sections of the gaming community demand higher and higher resolutions or more detailed 3D environments. As an old school gamer from the 80's to the PC 1990/2000's boom era, framerates will always be key. Make that the standard before you start pushing resolutions. When you become accustomed to high framerates on a daily basis, dropping into choppy frames, no amount of resolution or fluff will suffice. If the PS5 Pro cannot achieve 60fps as a standard. This could be the last generation of console gaming for me. Where less than 60fps hits you, isn't moving into the screen, but panning the camera left a d right. It's becoming more and more noticeable after becoming accustomed to playing a handful of games on PS5 that do run at 60fps.
