It's rated 'M' for a reason. The game isn't for kids. Not our problem if parents are buying them for underagers. You shouldn't be censoring content that adults bought the game for, it defeats the purpose. May not be what you like, but that's okay because you aren't paying for it.
Interested to see the new FarCry. Hopefully they extricate it out of the RPG genre after the fanatical failure of New Dawn. I think certain components of roleplay are nice, like choosing male or female preset characters, or having the option to choose certain outcomes, which boosts replayability, but as far as leveled enemies and guns go, they can bury that crap. I would also like to see a soft-boot of the series, and hopefully we see Brazil or Australia in the near future.
As for AC, I've played them all, and at this point, I couldn't care less what they do. The series is already botched narratively (Desmond's death, Juno's off-screen death, the abandonment of Shaun and Rebecca), so they can't do much more to screw it up in my eyes.
Repetition is not their problem, it was their yearly releases that caused fatigue. There's a big difference between AC1, AC3, ACU, and ACO. While they all hold essential elements of the original they all play quite differently.
Now, they recently extended the waiting period to two years, which is good, but if you ask me we should be waiting at least three years so each iteration has impact, meaning, and time to settle and be buried.
Their other main problem was no real direction. Up until recently, and after Desmond's death (which really could be traced back to Patrice's "departure"), we have been stuck in limbo with no-name initiates and petty Abstergo squabbles to propel the modern narrative forward. This slogged us in a fog and forced us to question the overall significance of a few AC titles, which in turn helped to contribute to that feeling of fatigue.
Luckily they have managed to fix both of these problems to an extent, but not without criticism, as there are certain lore-breaking fallacies in their attempt to course-correct this franchise's modern-day mishaps; and what strives they have made to revamp this series have created a rift with traditionals as well.
What we have witnessed however is an overall trend toward doing things the right way (at least in the areas that were plaguing them). I wish they would take a little more time with their projects personally, but one cannot deny the commercial and fanatical success of their recent cycle of AC games. And on a personal note, even though I can hardly say Odyssey really resembled AC beyond its most superficial aspects, I can honestly say I enjoyed the game very much (225 hours lol).
All that said, I think they're starting to learn a little bit from their past, and hopefully they continue to take those much-needed respites for the sake of over-saturation. I fear though that they might ramp up their releases due to their recent un-success regarding Division 2 and Ghost Recon. Time will tell.
Not at all. There is so much to play on Playstation I couldn't possibly be upset about a few games we had already been waiting ages for. The wait is only a little bit longer...
The PS5 logo is FINE. However, I would've preferred something novel, since we've seen a transformation of the logo from 2-3. If the leap from 4-5 is as big as they say it is, shouldn't we expect a new logo to go along with it?
I suppose it could also be said that it makes perfect sense to retain the old logo because of how much PS users identify with it already. Striking out a look that is so closely tied with success may not be the smartest thing to do when jumping to a new generation...
Still, the reputation of PS is such that many people will buy the new console no matter what. In fact, I'd personally wager a difference in persona could only add to the intrigue, not take away from it.
I've beaten all the Uncharted games twice already. Not really excited about getting it as a PS Plus game, especially since it's been out for so long and is dirt cheap. Most PS users have played it already too. It's like getting a movie service that gives you two free movies each month and instead of giving you something contemporary they give you Jaws and Star Wars: A New Hope.
Glad to see Judgment make the top ten at least. Highly underrated game. Just make sure to play it in Japanese to get the authentic experience. The dub is just blasphemy.
I'm currently playing it right now... Even though it seems to be a fairly good game so far, I wouldn't put it anywhere near Horizon: Zero Dawn. I'll say though that the story and characters are more compelling than the current Star Wars theatrical series. It's enjoyable but not very high up on my list of games for 'contender of the year'. That opinion might change however as I continue to play.
@delukze Sleeping Dogs is GTA in Hong Kong (I actually like it better than GTA personally), whereas Judgment is based heavily on the 'Yakuza model' which is a much more contained experience within an extremely dense map. There are passing similarities between the two titles, but they're only similar in the most superficial ways (like being set in Asia and being third person for instance). Yakuza has always had a deeper, more intimate storytelling experience, and it's just slower and more refined altogether. Sleeping Dogs is more of a rock 'n' roll experience by comparison.
There are many games I've played that I like better, but I have to be honest and say Red Dead Redemption 2. That thing is a masterpiece in many respects. From the world, the interaction, the maintenance, and customization, not to mention the sheer attention to detail, it's hard to top imo. A triumph of artistry, atmosphere, and presentation...
My personal PERSONAL game of the decade though would have to be Yakuza 0, I think. Just an all-around superb cast of characters with great story, great action, excellent mini-games, and a nostalgic trip into the late 80s. It's a very cultural game, and it's just extremely well-done and well-paced, giving us a satisfying ending that actually hits you in the feels. It's also the Yakuza game that really put the franchise on the map here in the West. Most gamers were in the dark up until Yakuza 0 dropped. After that, it was basically 'open season' for Sega.
Right now I'm playing Yakuza Kiwami 2, trying to finish trophies and the like in preparation for the Remaster Collection. And I'm also playing Sleeping Dogs, Tales of Berseria, and Shing Resonance Refrain on the side. A lot of games, I know.
Well, I WAS kinda interested... but having 'waves of DLC fighters' being advertised before the game even releases just tells me they're out to nickel and dime us.
@JayDub It definitely gets better as the story goes along, particularly in episodes 3 and 4, where you start seeing the after-effects of your previous choices. But yeah, I'd say it doesn't hold a candle to the original, not even close. The magic is missing somehow.
It's a tough call between the PS3 and PS2, but I'll have to go with the PS2, just so much nostalgia wrapped up in it, and so many great games I can't get out of my head, like SOCOM 2 & 3, Dynasty Warriors 3, GTA Vice City & San Andreas, DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Fight Night Round 2, 007: Nightfire... just a lot of good times with great games I spent hours and hours and hours on.
@JayDub It's not nearly as good as Season 1 or BTS anyway, lol. Sad to see a dip in their story-telling, but I think it was the characters themselves and the plot-structure that did this one in as a worthy successor. Max, Chloe, and Rachel still rule.
As for January and December, yeah it's gonna be dry. Only upcoming titles I'm getting soon are the Yakuza: Dragon of Dojima Remastered Collection - a February game - and then eventually Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is a March game.
Rogue and Black Flag are great, but they're a lot alike. It would be awesome if this deal included ACIIIR... Kenway Arc is the best in my opinion.
Origins and Odyssey are good if you're a newcomer, but they're lacking a lot of traditional elements that were present in the previous games. They almost feel like a series all their own...
As for the other games mentioned here, they're more the mediocre or less regarded games in the series, although I will say Unity had great customization, co-op, parkour, stealth, and gadgets... but that's neither here nor there.
I wouldn't recommend spending 66 dollars for a grand collection like this unless you REALLY want to get into the AC series. It's just a lot of game-time on older titles that could be spent on newer and better ones. Plus you're getting a rough intro since it doesn't include AC1, The Ezio Collection, or AC3. So yeah, you're missing a lot of lore.
Ehh, I'd have to see it first. I'm not keen on spending 200+ hours in a new environment doing basically what I did in Odyssey. I'd rather see a return to the Unity formula, but with a name like Ragnarok, and considering the recent success of God of War, I really doubt we'll ever see another AC game like it. More than likely this will just be Odyssey 2.0.
It looks okay, but I'm not sold on it. I presume there will be DLC and perhaps a Complete Edition for this in the not too distant future? Maybe I'll pick it up then.
My two cents would be to emulate what made Saints Row II so popular. Focus more on building your gang/criminal empire, gang politics, building relationships with your crew, and of course crazy amounts of customization. You can't outdo SR4 in terms of being over-the-top (unless you continue the narrative and fight more aliens in space... please don't), but you can make the game better with a more grounded and refined experience. Maybe you need a soft-boot to do that, maybe not, but I think I speak for most of everyone when I say however you do it, do it without powers in the mix.

Looks interesting. Would love to see this with co-op.
Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Ships Over 400,000 Units
As far as I am concerned, Yakuza ended with 6. Why don't they just focus on continuing their spin-off series, Judgment?
