Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 389

Some more new vegas, I finally made it to the strip and am away to get my casino on! I played a bit more of the ascent on series x and while the world looks amazing, the gameplay has some weird difficulty spikes. Maybe not for me. Also going to try some red dead online for the first time since launch, have a good one folks!

I'm nearing the end of mafia definitive, just downloading the ascent and have been feeling the urge to return to boletaria after watching some playthrough of levels I've completed on giantbomb.com. Have a great weekend everyone, come on Leicester in charity shield and shout out to an amazing Dundee United performance beating Rangers today!

I've played the first few levels of mafia definitive edition on series x and some more of my first playthrough of new vegas. I went to clear a factory of ghouls and it ended up being almost like a vault. Fallout 4 was my first fallout and I really enjoyed bits of it but felt most of the side content lacked any real story telling. The writing in new vegas (granted only about 4-5 hrs in) feels so much better already. Just a shame there's no options for console mods.

Re: Poll: Should Sony Do More PS5 Director's Cuts?

R1spam

The name directors cut is some focus group tested bs! It implies there was original content that was cut to make the product and with that added back, there is recontextualised meaning added. These are game of the year editions with additional bespoke content dlc content that doesn't change meaning or story in the main game.

Like many others, I've got crazy fond memories of games like pes 3 and 5. My pes 5 master league team when you unlocked world all time greats and having Pele and Dalglish upfront was a thing of beauty. Great couch vs too. Their must be space for an indie dev to do a take on that ps2 era footie game without licenses but modern online

Re: Sony 'Closely Monitoring' Nintendo Switch OLED as Industry May Look to Increase Prices

R1spam

I don't think they will change the ps5 base model price but it makes sense that revisions with bigger internal storage will have a different price point where sony make less of a loss. People really don't want a switch pro, when you break it down they want a more powerful switch 2 that's backwards compatible. The hard truth for nintendo is that their core market is families and they care little about what enthusiasts think. Switches still fly off shelves over the world and plenty handheld gamers will buy the new model regardless.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Less Excited for Deathloop on PS5 Than I Should Be

R1spam

I'll wait for gamepass launch. I like the look and art style of the game but don't know how they will keep the loops fresh between runs. Hard truth, even if this wasn't coming to gamepass I wouldn't buy at launch. Bethesda games are typically the price of a couple of decent pints within 12-18 months of launch second hand. They also tend to be buggy out the gate too and need you to be patient.

Re: Reaction: Messy Ghost of Tsushima Upgrade Makes PS5 for the Payers

R1spam

What's so strange here is that they have burned so much goodwill with this. They did 60 fps 4k patch for ps5 released the legends mode without any charge. It was almost an exemplar for treating your fans right. That's all disappeared now. I wonder how much better the ps5 version of this looks as what I'm playing right now is stunning 😍. As for dlc, unless they add something new game mechanics wise, I'll pass for now. The game is very one note already

Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite PS5, PS4 Game at E3 2021?

R1spam

Third pary development looks to have been hit really, really hard by the pandemic. Outside of the nintendo and microsoft shows, not too much for me. Looking forward to seeing more of Elden ring, GoTG and riders Republic. This E3 was perhaps weaker than last years. To be honest, another year like this or if nintendo or microsoft decide to drop it, game over for E3. Elden ring was not even announced at E3.

Some more ghost of tsushima, I'm about 8 hrs in. I'm enjoying it so far, though its very much an ubisoft type of openworld and I'm not a fan of ubisoft games typically! There is just something about the Sony take on it that works more for me and I don't know why. Like hzd has a lot in common with a far cry game but I enjoyed the former so much more. The ps5 patch looks bloody gorgeous as well.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Expect from E3 2021 Next Week?

R1spam

Xbox should be good, hopeful for a forza reveal, starfield gameplay, console releases for flight simulator and age of empires 3 along with maybe a cinematic from fable and the new indie game. Maybe even some uplay titles on gamepass. Throw in a cinematic from avowed and looks decent. Nintendo could really tear it up though with bayonetta 3, metroid 4, botw2 and switch pro. Bring on the games!

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

R1spam

@Tharsman for god of war, I disagree. Loading times in the ps4 reboot game were hidden by climb this or crawl through this space a la uncharted 2. These are things that you can't change about the game design between console versions. Having the use of the ssd would allow for fundamental differences in the design of the game world in this regard.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

R1spam

I have to be honest, I'm disappointed. I was hoping for god of war to be ps5 exclusive not to be elitist but because I want to see someone like Santa Monica or naughty dog push what the ps5 can really do. I want to see features that you simply couldn't do without an ssd.

Re: Two Point Campus Leaks, from the Team Behind Two Point Hospital

R1spam

Ooh I think I know how to play this game already!
Step 1, lure all students to campus for onsite teaching that can't be delivered due to covid but you need them to pay their halls of residence bill. Step 2, look bemused when teenagers party and dont socially distance. Step 3, send students back to all parts of the country to spread infection with them following lateral flow tests administred by non-healthcare professionals.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 377

@Hurblyburbly I'm still pretty early in, maybe 10 runs but so far, the game oozes character. If you've played bastion, the gameplay feels like it has a fair bit in common with their first game. You can save as you go in a room so your not committed to a run like I understand you are returnal as you can save and the voice acting is good (I think some of the folk who made did some of the vo, which is mental). I'm playing on switch and it runs nice but there are some dips when it gets really busy. Nothing that's a deal breaker, it's mainly smooth and decent in handgeld/docked. I got a physical copy of amazon for 25 quid and at that price with a tenner trade in, it feels worth it. I think there's a rumour though there are ps4/5 versions coming though if that's a factor.

Probs not too much today as its sunny and am heading out with the Mrs for a drink in a beer garden. I played a fair bit of resi 7 last night along with firing up hades for the first time. Its my first rogue-like and the one more run thing is so addictive! The folks at supergiant games are some talented peeps. Hoping to get a run or two in later and explore more of giants deep in outer wilds. Have a good one folks 😀

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Mass Effect Legendary Edition?

R1spam

I played the originals for the first time not long ago. I'm going to wait until they come to gamepass before I give it a try. Controversial but for me, 2 and 3 have some amazing moments but never hit the high points story wise that 1 does.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PS5 Roguelike Returnal Off to Slower Start Than Other Sony Exclusives

R1spam

I've been vocal about sony raising the price of new release in the UK raising by £20 but there are other factors here. I suspect this will have done much better digitally. I think the game looks great but rock hard rogue-like new ip is never going to sell that well. Hope they can circumvent the issues down the line with ps5 system causing crashes, patch some of the fps dips and add a mid-run save (so many reports of ps5 rest mode issues I can't believe that was there solution to this)!

@killileahihoo interesting and glad your retailer sorted you out! Mine would only do refund. I got lucky with another retailer after my refund landed. Good to see they are acknowledging problem is hardware now, in my case my new system came and system software, game software even tv firmware were all same versions yet no crashes at all. Pretty much confirmed to me it was hardware
