Re: Valiant Hearts Comes Home to PS4 After Netflix Exclusivity

@HotGoomba anything that's a point and click style game, like oxenfree 2, or turn based strategy, like into the breach, arguably works better on a touch screen interface on your phone than console using a controller. It's the freaks playing dead cells or gta on netflix by touchscreen there that melt my head. That might be an age thing though, the youth love a touchscreen lol.

Re: Soapbox: This Is Why Physical Games Are Still Important to Me

R1spam

I'm pretty much physical only if it's a AAA game with digital for smaller indie stuff without a physical release. That's across all 3 console platforms. It's not about preservation or collection (though I think both are important) but as I rarely replay games, about selling the physical game on and that often, you get a better deal with physical. I often use hit.co.uk and its consistently cheaper than digital at release and has come a few times a day or two early. Clearly the manufacturers would love to get rid of that but I think the first one that makes a whole gen digital only will get punished by gamers.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5) - A Slick, Satisfying, and Royally Robust Metroidvania

R1spam

Just finished the demo tonight, really enjoyed my time with it and the platforming and movement before any ability upgrades feels pretty good. Surprised that it doesn't have hdr to be fair, that would really make some of the colours and environments pop and contributes to the dated visuals. I've played a decent amount of blasphemous 2 and ori will of the wisps last year so I'm not in a mad rush for this but it's a game I'm definitely going to play.

I'm on the final chapter of Dead Space remake, never played it before and this game is brilliant!! It might be my favourite horror game ive played. Just wrapped up Chapter 5 of yakuza like a dragon. It took a couple of chapters but the turn based combat has really grown on me. Maybe blasphemous 2 but I've hit a wall of a boss and need to watch YouTubes to beat it and haven't made time yet. loved my time with it but might call it a day. Have a great weekend folks!

Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Baldur's Gate 3

R1spam

Its eurovision style scoring and spiderman 2 is a title nearly everyone will have played, enjoyed and scored highly. I'm sure those who played baldurs gate 3 were more likely to score it at the top of their list, but there will be less people on staff/freelancers who played a 100 hr, digital-only release DnD rpg compared with spiderman 2. The same applies even more to the community votes. Its hardly rocket science to figure out. Why are people losing their mind??

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 Puzzle Game of 2023

R1spam

I loved humanity but have yet to finish it, I just love playing a couple of levels with a decent cuppa and a podcast. Cocoon is good but gets a little one note by the end. I've only played the demo but liked viewfinder, I thought it might have scraped on here.

Re: Game of the Year: #3 - Resident Evil 4

Great game, I haven't tried the separate ways expansion but can't wait too. Truly perfect pacing. Typically I sell games after I beat them but I kept hold of RE4 remake, I know I'm going to play it again.

R1spam

@CJD87 you warned me about it and just got to that boss fight last night. I can go through that first phase without any damage, that second phase is too much though!! @JamieO I'm clearly going to have to hit youtube as well, even with 6 bile flasks I've not got past a 3rd of that 2nd phase healthbar :/

Re: Soapbox: Dead Space Is This Year's (Almost) Forgotten Horror Delight

R1spam

In addition to the sound design, it probably has the best haptics on ps5 from a 3rd party dev, right up beside returnal and Astro Playroom. Honestly, I loved the resi 4 remake amd enjoyed it more but it's not really horror in the way Dead Space Remake is. I never felt anywhere near the levels of dread about entering a new area in RE4 than I did in Dead Space.

Re: Game of the Year: #6 - Street Fighter 6

R1spam

It's a great game!! I'm sure it's controversial for fighting game community but adding the modern control scheme was a brilliant idea. It allows those who aren't going to spend 100s of hours getting good and committing moves to muscle memory to play online and think, "I should throw a fireball and drive charge to back it up at this person" rather than "I need to twirl quarter moon shapes furiously and punch cos that's the move I remember". The arcade hub where you can access classic games and look at the monstrous avatars people have come up with are great to. Strangely, despite having a weird yakuza-esque single player mode, I've barely touched it. I'm normally a tekken guy but SF6 is special.

I'm playing way too many things at the minute!! I've reached the svsona boss in Blasphemous 2 but my daughter had grabbed the switch to play animal crossing so that's going to have to wait! Been loving Yakuza like a dragon and Dave the diver too and last but not least, I got to man up and finish Dead Space remake. Hope everyone has a great time at Christmas!!

Re: Game of the Year: Simon's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023

R1spam

@KundaliniRising333 I've definitely found that the different areas have different feels to them. For example one area might be a dark, gothic spooky house, where another might be this more light, almost andalusia/moorish architecture. The music completely changes by area too. Their is decent enemy variety, but not as varied as hollow knight. I'm like 8-9 bosses in so not finished but what I would say is that routine enemies can sometimes have milder variants of boss attack styles, so you have some muscle memory. Having said that, plenty of the bosses have kicked my ass!!

Re: Game of the Year: Simon's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023

R1spam

Blasphemous 2 is brilliant! Some amazing boss fights and right alongside hollow knight for one of the best 2d indie metroidvania's. "And we shall descend into a sea of mourning" that because there have been so amazing games this year, it will likely be missed from lots of goty lists.

Ben Hanson at Minnmax is a great interviewer and has a real talent for picking up people who have recently left studios and letting them tell their stories. His interview with Bruce Nesmith, who was creative lead for skyrim and at Bethesda for Fallout 4 and begining of Starfield was great too. Shouts out to independent media, doing the Lords work!

I've been laid up with some bad ass flu and never even made it out of bed yesterday. I ended up playing a bit of vice city on my phone through Netflix. Combination of smaller screen and original lighting means this looked way better than the San andreas remaster did at launch. I'm hoping I'm up to some Dead Space Remake or blasphemous 2 but realistically, I'll be lucky to handle some more vice city. Have a better weekend than me folks!

Re: Random: Yes, Netflix Really Is Getting GTA for Christmas

R1spam

@Slideaway1983 all the netflix games I've tried have used the phone touchscreen controls. There are a couple of decent games on there that actually lean into that and do a good job of touch controls (like Poinpy and Layas Horizon) and some point and click things like kentucky route zero or oxenfree 2 where touchscreen works pretty well. Most control like straight ass with the touchscreen though 🙈!! I think they were trialing a couple of games on TV but it's mainly phone ports I've tried. Not worth a subscription for games but if you've got it anyways, worth a look.

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

R1spam

Even with 200 mbs Internet, my remote play sessions on ps5 have been painful. Xcloud has worked better but even then, cloud streaming stuff for anything that remotely depends on any timing has been poor. Hope those who get it enjoy, as being able to play games not a big TV is super handy sometimes. Digital foundry take on why it appears to perform better than remote play app (and whether it works better than unofficial apps) will be interesting.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 501

R1spam

@CJD87 Yeah, I'm still loving Blasphemous 2, the platforming is better than I originally thought too. My first boss took me a few goes but the areas seem manageable so far and importantly, when I die, it's my fault and I know what I've done. I've only played a couple of hrs of Disco but it's already got its hooks into me, it's so funny, dense and dark. Can't wait to play more. It runs OK on a switch, apart from the like 3 min boot up at the start, thought it wasn't going to run and id be stuck with strictly 🙈 Lies of P makes me think I should try Sekiro, the legion arm grappling hook rules! Did you play Sekiro? Bet you it runs awesome on steam deck

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 501

R1spam

Still all the same things as last week as I've not had much time!! Got all three weapons in blasphemous 2 and unlocked a good chunk of the map. Lies of P has started to get its hooks into me and just beat the mad donkey. I'm on Chapter 5 of Dead Space as well but the thing I'm most excited about this weekend is the couple of hours I've carved out for myself later to finally start Disco Elysium. Have a great weekend folks!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 500

R1spam

Happy 500!! Love this feature and try comment most weeks. I've been struggling for gaming time this week as I've had a ton of family commitments but hoping to get wrap up my time in Hackett's quarry and finish up the Quarry. On Chapter 9 and very much enjoying it. Hopefully some more Dead Space remake, it's my first time through on Chapter 4 just now and got myself a flamethrower! Last but not least, hopefully some more blasphemous 2 tonight. I have been thinking about whether I've made the wrong turning for about 3 days but not had the chance to play. Have a great weekend folks!

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Alan Wake 2?

R1spam

Like a bunch of others, I would have brought at launch but with it being digital only, I'll buy down the line. It looks great though, hope folks who are playing enjoy!

Re: Site News: Where's Our Alan Wake 2 PS5 Review?

R1spam

Why have so many people pre-ordered a digital release? There is no digital scarcity, you could just buy it at launch once you know it works. Not trolling (or certainly not trying to deliberately troll lol), just curious. I pre-order the odd physical release as I want to play the game at launch but you can do that digitally without a pre-order.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 498

I'm up to chapter 5 in The Quarry and need to get my but in gear to get it finished by the 17th (or more realistically the 23rd if I put my ps5 offline) before it leaves extra. Its so schlocky, im way into it!! Played a decent chunk of Cocoon last night, once you get your head around the inception layers you can get to, it's proper mind blowing! I'm not getting to play it yet but CEX got blasphemous 2 on switch back in stock so I've managed to get it ordered and will hopefully arrive next week. Have a good weekend folks!
