@viktorcode @viktorcode I’m telling you that his name isn’t that popular. You might underestimate the sheer amount of fictional samurai era media over here. I think over estimating his impact or influence or relevance is the same bias as people saying he wasn’t a real samurai. It’s just lame on both accounts.
I mentioned that regardless of skin color, sales or backlash. They could have done shinobi proud. The angle and gameplay (so far) screams of unoriginality and full of trope.
@viktorcode not to rain on your parade but I live in Japan and 1/15 Japanese people I’ve asked about Yasuke know who he was by name.
But do you know who everyone knows? When they think of Samurai and shinobi, the demon himself…. From the same period.
I wanted Hanzo, but Ubisoft
decided Yasuke was a better Hanzo than Hanzo….. IMO this sucks because Hanzo so much more so synonymous with samurai, shinobi and assassinations. I truly think they didn’t want to do that because they assumed gamers would confuse Hanzo and Jin from Ghost - which they wanted to copy anyway…..
@xDD90x I agree with you. Just saying it seems like it’s not a priority for their user base.
But, living in Japan I’ve to come to realize that over here, Japanese people don’t expect anything for free. Like my wife won’t plug her phone into a restaurant outlet that isn’t purposely for customers like a Starbucks because it would be stealing electricity, or that fees and service cost for processing documents is the norm.
So while I don’t think it would ever go free, I think a one time fee of like $10 or if you’ve been on PS+ for over x years might be a way to entice them…
Either way, it’s BS that they are not available outside of the sub.
@xDD90x I’d say the vast majority of essential players care more about online access than cloud saves. If online was free, they’d lose a lot of revenue.
@rusty82 agreed. I would have liked another game by this crew. I think a second game would have been excellent. It’s too bad, they hit some unfortunate timing. I am just realizing I need more of this type of game.
this is a very solid game. The combat feels good, not too difficult. The leveling is fair and gives options to your play style.
The world has a lot of maps and allows you to continue seeking hidden treasure and paths. With the music, it reminds me a lot of metroid prime.
The story is interesting and VA done very well. Dialogue can get a bit Marvel campy but nothing off putting, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
** This game is definitely undervalued IMO.

‘Us’ the people on sites like this whom make informed decisions through trailers and discourse.
Not the ‘people’ as a general statement to include anyone from simply likes the devs, desert cosplay enthusiasts, to Bob yearning for Darksiders nostalgia or random people like Mary and Joe buying little Timmy a cheaper game as a gift.

@TechaNinja I don’t think so man. Three dudes working out of a basement isn’t exactly what sites have in mind when writing about crunch culture.
The source “being accused of "stealing" animations directly from Elden Ring.” Only people with subjective confirmation bias would read that as ‘thieves’ …
@KundaliniRising333 I don’t think you get what I’m saying. Those third party titles are subsidized by other platforms, you can’t say that I have a theory and you are proven right when in actuality you didn’t refute anything and just talked around it.
More people want AAA games than AA. That’s why CoD, Elden Ring, Hogwarts will sell tens of millions. No way A Plague Tale would ever come close. Again, it’s the reason MS wants CoD. People want that. There are more players now than ever before with less time and more money, AAA big budget will vastly be more in demand than AA arcade or indie games.
@KundaliniRising333 I think you are not taking proper perspectives into consideration with your opinion.
First, value is subjective. As the first comment to reply to your main one, GP or ‘plus’ won’t get the Elden Ring’s, Hogwarts, DeadSpace, Final Fantasy, Red Dead, Witcher games. Their production costs are too high. The only way you’ll see a GOTY on GP day one is if their first party hits it of the park. The vast of the third party GP day ones are high 70s, low 80s on user metacritic for a reason. So if you play several games a year only, at the moment GP is a waste because it doesn’t have the biggest games people want to play. (Hence - paying ridiculously for Activision). We don’t know how much MS is eating dev costs for XB either to allow Bethesda and 343 to take half a decade or more to make their games.
Game quality. I think you’ve misunderstood the argument. It centres around if all games were on a subscription, dev cycles and production costs would need to be drastically reduced. Unlike ike a TV series but more akin to Netflix movies, they get one shot to make a game. Explain to me how Naughty Dog makes a TLoU3 in same
sphere of quality with half of the money?
Ask yourself, how would Outsiders, Wo Long and Atomic studios make a profit without the subsidized funding through PlayStation players? It seems GP players are more and more refusing to pay for devs work in earnest so they take whatever they can get. Now imagine 2 fold as if it had to be put on PS+ day one.
Ask yourself, as a third party publisher, how confident are you in your game that you write off sales on day one for a flat fee from MS?
It’s not proven because it hasn’t truly happened yet. I don’t understand why people don’t get the crux of this….
@Splatmaster that’s the reason MS is spending 69 bills. To push people to GP - because it’s growth is peaking. They didn’t do enough, and it seems the PS5s are well on the way to repeat the PS4 dynastic … imo
The article is saying that 100K is reported from a site. But there is a Twitter link that shows scalping. And the article also points out that box game sales (so like Horizon, GT or GoW?) are way too low…. And Famitsu isn’t counting digital games (or PS+ extra or PS+ collection) So the Twitter must be the reason….
But the Twitter doesn’t have a single box game set in all of those photos ( they are also $60 more in Japan) so…… what is this article implying then?
I feel like the Chinese scalpers trying to get u locked systems into China is a way better angle then the confirmation bias of scalping being the reason Japanese game sales are down……
@get2sammyb In your replay to in1rin5ic you’re saying that you don’t believe Sony doesn’t have control of their product? What about Death Stranding on PC GamePass?
Publisher relationships as you suggest are cultivated. So if MS struck a deal with the MLB, who publishes the game for that reason. You suggest Sony is to ask them politely to extinguish it? These deals are likely for 10 years for all we know, think Spider-Man and Sony in the reciprocal.
Sony could pull an EA and say no dice, and make their own Baseball 2025 The Show, but they won’t. They know it, MLB knows it and MS knows it. XB is strongest in the US, MLB is most popular in the US…..
Sony needs to be paid or developing it, the only way around that is to ask MLB to compensate their loss of sales for forcing them to put it day and day. But why would MLB do that? So players that don’t buy it in droves now can play it for free? Like after 2 years, there’s a fear all PS4/5 players will skip over to XSX suddenly? For game they don’t mind paying for?
I don’t think there is room this calendar year for missing the mark, and this game missed it by quite the margin. When potentially great titles are essentially rolling out every couple of weeks, there is no room for mediocrity.
Just look at the next 2 months. Deadspace, Hogwarts, Wild Hearts, Like a Dragon, Atomic Heart, Horizon DLC, Destiny: Lightfall, Jedi: Survivor, RE4.
No way I’ll be playing it. Not now, near or distant future. I’ll have forgotten about it by fall.
@Jimmer-jammer both games were so good. For me, this year was top notch due to an impeccable backlog.
My plats from Jan - Dec: Mass Effect 2 > 3 > Horizon > Death Stranding > The Ascent > Cyberpunk PS5 > Elden Ring > Outriders > Plague Tale > GoWR > (Working on Tales of Arise)
@__jamiie I brought up XBox to compare with the impression of what the media has been reporting about Xbox in Japan. What people abroad surmise may not reflect actuality. As per his response.
@__jamiie I think there is a misconception from outside Japan and people covering games from inside have picked up on it.
I was in the biggest electronics place in Osaka yesterday and their Switch and PS areas were jammed packed. Every demo being played, long line ups at counters for various things. Lots of people with PS5 controllers and headsets and such.
On the contrary - MS and Phil have been stated how they are putting more into the market. Media is reporting this is their best console year in Japan. XB had nothing but a 5’x7’ display. With signs saying Series X wasn’t available, and a single shelf of games. Downstairs in the PC gaming areas sat a SX and a SS demo not being played and just a simple rack of GamePass cards. That’s it. Crickets.
Dialogue is so bad, after playing A plague tale and GoW - it’s unplayable.. definitely a PS+ if at all for me. Combat mechanics were ok, not enough to get me to buy it.
@sjbsixpack Let’s say GamePass was on PS5, for $5 more a month, would you still switch? I’m thinking they could be a win-win. But GP on PC or XB wouldn’t see any PS games, that’s still for sure.
@Milktastrophe Yeah. Things were updated after my comment. Appears she was an intern for a few months with no deal and the department decided not to credit her. This happens all the time in production. Wonder if this Twitter burst will be a good or bad thing for her, tbh.
Just an assumption but - Sounds likely she works for a contacted entity. Someone working on GoW got her to help them with that scene. And her colleague didn’t put her name down. I doubt she was hired by SM and then shunned ala Doom Eternal.
I’ve lived in Osaka for 12 years: the main reason that the devs are not releasing is that they would need to release two versions. Instead of doing the work like Capcom - they’ve decided to opt out of it.
It’s their choice. So don’t act like they can’t release their original version here. That’s just untrue. It’s the same reason why some porn companies only released blurred out genital regions, it costs more to publish and print double of everything.
@SpaceDonkey do you have the newest XB Elite controller or a PS5 custom scuff one? How about a OLED TV when it first came out at $4000?
If you answered No - then yeah, it’s not targeted for you. It’s not like suddenly the market is waning to satiate a larger proportion of gamers, the key demographic hasn’t drastically changed. This coming on the heels as the high end monitors and headphones roll out too - do you have those? See the connection here?
Just wait for it to come down if you don’t want to pay for it. …… like everything else. I can more then easily afford this - but I won’t buy it because I don’t value it - it’s not intended for me.
@KundaliniRising333 You have a point. But it truly is only half of the story. As I’ve being saying, the Cyberpunk genre and good story are bigger than what was promised or gameplay or GTA or whatever.
It sucks that a portion of the pre-order group did not get what they want but as this situation demonstrates, it wasn’t the main features that the vocal pundits thought everyone else had (outside performance) at launch were angry about. It isn’t disputable at this point. Just look at the steam numbers, which other single player games is or has been doing that well?
The narrative elements and world building done fantastically enough will sell another game. Let us hope the people on your side of the fence come back over if they nail the mechanics next round.
I hate to say it but having two racing and fighting games in back to back months is pretty bad. Better racing game, worse fighting game but it’s not like you couldn’t buy these games for less than $15 anyways, gross.
Not to mention the third games were a switch game masquerading as a PS5 and a 5 year old game whose VR version is more popular.
@zupertramp well good to know, he actually doesn’t play PS really. So I haven’t done any research into it. But it looks like a good idea to sit and wait, I’ll look into though. Thanks for the heads up - much appreciated.
@Ultrasmiles I’m thinking of buying one as my son is turning 6 soon. While I’m not interested in VR games, I’d like for him to be able to play some of the more famous older ones - which I assume they will make due to their popularity - like beat sabre.
I don’t think a lot of people are looking at it as I understand what’s going on here.
First, for every gamer that thinks Sony is looking bad in the PR front or GPass is stealing the conversation or whatever - there are 10,000 gamers who don’t know about this back and forth and they login to PSN every day to play CoD. You’re likely not the priority in their measures.
Second. This is all about the true next gen. Isn’t MS wanting to move away from a console in several years time? This is their play to force gamers into full on streaming choice. They are more than happy for PS gamers to help carry CoD/GamePass - but make no mistake - they want gamers to choose no console or PS6.
If this drags out - as Sony intends, it only makes it easier for them to prepare their base to not care about that choice. If MS loses this bid, it may force them into considering their strictly cloud based platform in 2027/8.
@PenguinLtd it might be - but to me, a game that you can play on switch or even base psp isn’t a ‘PS5’ game worth my time sorry. 2022 and 2 years after launch we get this? This could have been one of the PS4 games.
@Blaze215 who is making all of these next gen games btw? Sure isn’t Xbox, Rockstar? Not PCDR, how about Ubisoft, ummm Square? I dunno, not EA. On PC? What are are they playing differently? Seems like a lot of hot air to be calling them out. This is the norm across the board in 2022.
Everyone is in the 60fps / 4K mid grade loop. The majority of the next gen player base seems at peace with the tilting toward next gen. I’ve had an epic year personally in the titles and experiences I’ve had, too bad it wasn’t your year.
But I fail to see how lack of titles relates to this article. With all the money Microsoft has, they’ve taken a pretty long toilet break thus far too. Investing into mobile isn’t going to make the PS5 games in development now slow down.
@UltimateOtaku91 100%. I have two co-workers here in Japan. One is Chinese and one is Japanese and both of their teenage kids spend almost all of their disposable income on mobile games. I asked my Chinese colleague how much he estimated that his daughter spent in the last 2 years on MTX and he said around ¥60,000. I was aghast, I’ve spent around ¥35,000 and I have 40 platinums lifetime so I play a lot and buy mostly PS5 disks.
@HeeHo yeah my bad my man. For some reason when I clicked on the link it brought me to a response to someone else with your response to me above and outta sight.
But I was just taking the piss. As with the men’s, it is a more competitive tournament with everyone winning from fans to players to coaches.
I just like pointing out the best ‘international’ teams are outside Europe, haha.
@torne Yeah. It feels like there is fatalistic complex in the diction coming out of here because the game releases are more spread out this year too.
Also, you forgot about the semiconductor shortage plaguing the industry and will continue into 2024… so while those whining over the price increase are loudest - the ones willing to pay a bit more - they just want one - are closer to being silently overjoyed.
@torne Yeah. The other one wasn’t even correct and was disingenuous. He insinuated to that winning a raffle in the system used by second tier retailers in Japan doesn’t guarantee a purchase - I haven’t heard of this happening to anyone and I live in Osaka.
And this entire article is an oxymoron. A price increase of a console had players hoping that the game comes out for their ¥200,000 rig? Like players were waiting to buy a PS5 for this game while already owning a three times more expensive device? That’s not how any Japanese person I know values their gaming preferences. He’s just taking things off of Twitter and making it up as he goes. If you lived over here it’s ultra hyperbolic, praying on an audience that may not know the reality.
@HeeHo are you saying I’m a sexist for believing that if Canadian or American women teams participated in the woman’s Euro’s that they would likely win as they seem to be better than the rest? Conflating your bias and sexist much Blahahahahaha.
@get2sammyb how do you know that Kojima Productions didn’t have the negotiating power when signing the deal with Sony? For example, They would be allowed to choose the publisher for PC? This is great for Kojima Productions going forward.
If Sony wanted to publish it on PC and care about nick picking about which PC players have access wouldn’t they have negotiated that too? They weren’t there with their own capabilities, and to be frank - neither was XBox on PC.
Seems like you aren’t taking your own hindsight into consideration, the deal between them was what - several years ago?
If you are a true fan of the game and it’s team, this is great news. If you care more about how console privilege makes you feel - then you get hyperbolic over it, forgetting about the timeline and logical circumstances.

@IonMagi The resident evil games in Japan have a different addition (Z) that allows you to turn on the violence as per the western release.
Re: PS5 Users Unimpressed with DualSense Edge Controller's Premium Price Tag
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Popularity Still Soaring a Month After Edgerunners Anime and Update
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for October 2022?
I hate to say it but having two racing and fighting games in back to back months is pretty bad. Better racing game, worse fighting game but it’s not like you couldn’t buy these games for less than $15 anyways, gross.
Not to mention the third games were a switch game masquerading as a PS5 and a 5 year old game whose VR version is more popular.
Re: EA Announces Iron Man Game in Development at Motive Studio
I’m going to assume that they’ll be borrowing from BioWare here, Anthem’s flying was pretty good.
Re: Rumour: Tons of PSVR2 Devs Porting PSVR Games to New Headset
@zupertramp well good to know, he actually doesn’t play PS really. So I haven’t done any research into it. But it looks like a good idea to sit and wait, I’ll look into though. Thanks for the heads up - much appreciated.
Re: Rumour: Tons of PSVR2 Devs Porting PSVR Games to New Headset
@Ultrasmiles I’m thinking of buying one as my son is turning 6 soon. While I’m not interested in VR games, I’d like for him to be able to play some of the more famous older ones - which I assume they will make due to their popularity - like beat sabre.
Re: Sony Won't Let Microsoft's $69 Billion Activision Acquisition Go, Stresses It's Bad for Gaming
Re: PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium PS5, PS4 Games for September 2022 All Announced
@PenguinLtd it might be - but to me, a game that you can play on switch or even base psp isn’t a ‘PS5’ game worth my time sorry. 2022 and 2 years after launch we get this? This could have been one of the PS4 games.
PS extra getting Deathloop….. hmmmmm
Re: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty About 40 Hours Long with Linear, Level-Based Structure
With this launching day one on GamePass - I’m going to bet right now that 6-8 months later there will be a 50% off sale it will be included.
So I’ll try it for $30-$40, if the reviews are alright.
Re: PlayStation Acquires Savage Game Studios, Focusing on Mobile Games
Re: PlayStation Acquires Savage Game Studios, Focusing on Mobile Games
@UltimateOtaku91 100%. I have two co-workers here in Japan. One is Chinese and one is Japanese and both of their teenage kids spend almost all of their disposable income on mobile games. I asked my Chinese colleague how much he estimated that his daughter spent in the last 2 years on MTX and he said around ¥60,000. I was aghast, I’ve spent around ¥35,000 and I have 40 platinums lifetime so I play a lot and buy mostly PS5 disks.
Re: As the Women's Euros 2022 Breaks Records, FIFA 23 Has Full Female Athlete Mocap
Re: PS5 Price Increase Has Some Japanese Players Praying for PC Port of Final Fantasy 16
Re: PS5 Price Increase Has Some Japanese Players Praying for PC Port of Final Fantasy 16
Re: As the Women's Euros 2022 Breaks Records, FIFA 23 Has Full Female Athlete Mocap
@HeeHo are you saying I’m a sexist for believing that if Canadian or American women teams participated in the woman’s Euro’s that they would likely win as they seem to be better than the rest? Conflating your bias and sexist much Blahahahahaha.
Re: Sony Had 'No Involvement' in Death Stranding Deal with PC Game Pass
