Re: Sony Suggests MLB Made the Decision to Include MLB The Show 21 on Xbox Game Pass

Shstrick

I would guess 'MLB' likely has all the rights to baseball games covering the major leagues, so dropping MLB and making a competing baseball game might not make sense. Although, if Sony stops making these games, MLB will likely go to Microsoft and future MLB games would probably be on both systems anyway. I would just let Microsoft foot the bill and use the talent to make something entirely different, unless there's tons of money involved, which there is. I'm glad I'm not the guy at Sony that has to figure this stuff out.

@Rob_230 I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts recently where it seems like every conversation eventually turns into praising Gamepass, even when the conversation has nothing to do with Gamepass.

“This week I’ve been playing ‘X game’. It’s great! But I really wish it was on Gamepass. Gamepass is the best. Xbox is the savior of the industry because Gamepass. Everyone should subscribe to Gamepass because Gamepass Gamepass Gamepass. Sony needs to do something like Gamepass.”

This coming from people who have every system and get all their games for free anyway. It’s very clear there’s Microsoft money coming in, either from direct payments or investments or advertising promises, etc.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Really Enjoying Cyberpunk 2077

I agree that the game is pretty good when it’s working. It sounds like you’ve managed to avoid the worst of it. For me, also playing on ps5, I’ve had 5 crashes in 5 hours since the 1.04 patch. Two of them were hard crashes where I had to reboot the console and rebuild the database. I really want to play it more, but I’ve had to put it on the “do not touch” list until the crashes are fixed. Incidentally, I have friends playing it on PS4 pro they say they haven’t had a single crash since 1.04.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Hovers Around 720p on PS4, Drops As Low As 15FPS

@HMazzy111 The PS4 version running on PS5 isn’t great. It’s a pretty solid 60fps, but looks blurry as hell on a 4K screen and pop-in and low res textures are super noticeable. I’ve also seen ~50 graphical bugs in 3 hours of playtime, so there’s that. There’s also a scene in the rain at the beginning of the game which looks awful. I think the best comparison is the grey, blurry rain from MGS2. It seems like almost the exact same rain. Really curious/worried to see what they can do with the PS5 version.

Re: EA Details Inconsistent Next-Gen Upgrades for PS4 Games

Shstrick

I can only think of a few scenarios why PS5 is getting the short end of the stick:
1) Microsoft paid them (EA) for specific upgrades or has some other deal with them on this
2) PS5 really is much weaker and can’t handle the upgrades, which seems plausible given the rumors and half-confirmation from Ubisoft (see AC Valhalla upscaled to 4K on PS5 instead of native)
3) Dev laziness (seems unlikely to me, but who knows)
4) the devs were given a hard deadline for updating all the SKUs, started with XBOX improvements, and ran out of time with the PS5 improvements
5) there’s some weird technical issue with the PS5 making it hard to implement all the upgrades

Re: Spider-Man Creative Director Speaks Out on Peter Parker's New Face Following Backlash

Shstrick

I don’t really believe that they weren’t able to use whatever face model they wanted. I mean, I’ve seen Shrek. What I think happened is they had some sort of falling out with the original model so they don’t want to work with him again. They still need someone for Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2, so they hired a new guy and redid everything for consistency. It would be weird to go have Spider-Man look like a completely different person between games if you start the series with the remaster. This way it doesn’t affect people that are new to the series.

For anyone interested: this is a mobile game from around 10 years ago. The devs don’t have anything about that on their website, but a quick Google search brings up reviews of the Android version from 2013. I don’t think that makes it a bad game, just something people might want to be aware of.

Edit: Metacritic has two reviews of the iOS f2p version of this game from 2011 citing Blue Shadow Games as the developer. They’re both positive reviews, for the record. Seems like someone else might’ve picked up the publishing rights and want to sell the full game for a fixed price, which I think a lot of mobile games should do. Might be worth giving the devs some money if the game seems up your alley.

Edit 2: More info over at PlayStation Blog. It looks like this version is a remake of the original, overhauling the graphics, sound, and controls. Which is pretty cool!
