@MFTWrecks Right?? Iâve been using remote play on iPad ever since they allowed Bluetooth connection with the DualShock 4 and have rarely had issues besides the odd frame drop. People seem to think remote play hasnât changed at all since the functionality first debuted, so theyâre unwilling to even try it. Itâs actually been really good for a while, especially when streaming from PS5 and controller support is great these days.
The points Sony made regarding âbehavioral commitmentsâ totally make sense to me. Strictly enforcing any of these commitments would require teams of people to monitor and could still let errors through. Sony also cited multiple cases where MS made concessions to get a deal through and then didnât honor the concessions. The point theyâre making - which is outlined pretty specifically in their response - is that MS is okay with breaking deals and paying a massive fine just to get what they want. MS can easily break any promises made, they have infinite money (theyâre the 2nd most profitable company in existence at the moment), so even a $10b fine doesnât really matter to them.
Oh and why is no outlet reporting on the âofferâ to let Sony put COD on PS+ on day one? They made public statements about the offer, but didnât mention to the public that the offer included Sony paying a licensing fee that would be larger than the entire profit margin of PS+ Extra. âSure, you can put COD on PS+, but itâs going to cost you $30 a year per user, even if they never download a COD game.â
@Fight_Teza_Fight the Lego Star Wars series existed before the Lego Skywalker Saga. They re-wrote the story to more closely match the important beats of the movies, reworked and modernized the gameplay, and added voice acting. So probably something along the same lines, basically a full remake of all the existing games all packaged together into one product.
Notice for game devs far and wide: if youâre contracting ANYTHING out to a third party, ALWAYS perform acceptance testing before releasing the product.
@thefourfoldroot1 i think Sony will have to lean heavily on Japanese titles after this, more so than they already do. I think MS understands that Sonyâs heritage is in Japanese games and theyâd love to take that away, so I really hope youâre right.
Definitely agree you on them buying up smaller devs.
@thefourfoldroot1 Wondering whoâs next. If this goes through then theyâll try for another and another and another until theyâre told they canât buy anymore. Will they go for the easier to acquire publishers like Ubisoft or Focus, the big boys like EA and Take Two, or just try to buy the Japanese publishers to undercut Sony more? I think people that think itâs impossible for them to buy Japanese devs are vastly underestimating the power of money and just how much of it Microsoft is willing to hand out.
The fix is in. Apparently all it took was offering COD to Nintendo and nvidia, who MS specifically said are not their competitors. Although this does lessen the overall impact of one company owning COD for now. 10 years down the road? I guess weâll see if MS choose to renew the contracts or not.
@GymratAmarillo Iâm not really following on the quality argument. Less money means fewer animators to make fluid animations, more simplified or generic music, fewer engineers working on optimization, smaller, less detailed worlds, shorter development time. Sony games arenât cheap to make and they donât have piles of cash to burn. When the money they make from COD is cut off theyâll start making cuts immediately or risk going defunct.
Please correct me if Iâm way off course đ .
Edit: just saw your newest comment and it clarifies things. I still think Sony first party games quality will take a hit, but I agree with everything else you said
@ED_209 not having COD on PS could be enough. Part of Sonyâs initial argument was that COD sells more copies on PS each year than all of their first party games combined multiple times over and that money gets funneled back to first party studios. Not having the revenue from COD could potentially cripple development of first party games. We can expect to see massive dips in quality from PS Studios games going forward
This has been my most anticipated game since the first announcement.
Really hoping the action combat turns out well and Iâm confident it will. Iâm also envisioning a future where the FF series embraces this combat for some titles while also using the FF7R combat for some. Would love if the inevitable FF9 remake keeps the turn based combat of the original.
Not sure how they plan to have parity on Switch with 1/10th the processing power of the Xbox S. Doesnât seem possible to me.
All in all, these negotiations are about reducing risk to the industry as a whole, which doesnât happen with a 10 year deal. This is just kicking the 10 ton can of worms down the road a bit.
Create a service that draws people in at a low entry fee. Buy up as much of the industry as possible until youâre insulated from serious competition. Jack up the prices. Obvious plan from the start.
@Stocksy Iâve definitely seen a lot of harsh comments towards JKR from the left, including calling for her death, which is not okay. Not that everyone on the left is like that - no group is a monolith. I should also say Iâve seen a lot of spite and nastiness from people on the right and I donât agree with that nonsense either. I Probably shouldâve thought that through and included it in my original comment. My point was just that the game itself seems like a good middle ground and something that can bring people together.
I know there are a lot of people that donât want to buy the game since JKR is probably making royalties, but what is she really getting per sale? $0.10? Sheâs also already a billionaire, so realistically she wonât even notice the royalties sheâs getting or not getting. With that said, I respect people standing for their principles.
Side note: Iâve always thought of the term âleftyâ as derogatory. Am I wrong about that? I try not to offend people if I can help it.
Been playing the deluxe edition and about 20 hours in. Have to say this is probably the best realized world Iâve ever seen in a game. The attention to detail is insane, thereâs just so much to see and do.
Hot take: Hogwarts Legacy is better than Horizon Forbidden West.
Political Side Note: This is also the most âinclusiveâ game Iâve ever played. Iâm a fairly hardcore conservative, so I donât agree with most of the discourse about JKR and the like coming from people on the left. But if youâre one of those people, there is a lot to like here for you. The game doesnât force you to choose a gender, doesnât use male/female pronouns anywhere, you can look and sound however you want (you can make what I would consider a female character with a male-sounding voice and vice versa.) For people on my side of the political isle - I donât feel like Iâm being bombarded with ideological stuff at all. I think it hits a good middle-ground where anyone can enjoy it without feeling offended or annoyed.
Iâm sure theyâre expecting heavy losses over the next few years. Personally I only have time for 1 or 2 ongoing games at once, so I imagine I wonât play most of Sonyâs live service offerings. Iâll just play whichever one is best or none at all.
I think the big thing is that they need to pull players away from existing live service games, so whatever they make will need to be âbetterâ than Fortnite and Warzone, which is a tall order.
@KaijuKaiser couldnât agree more. FFXIV has some of the best dialog in any medium and Koji Fox and his team are the best localizers in the world hands down. FF16 is going to be awesome
Iâve developed some pain from the DualSense triggers (FFXIV requires lots of double pulls of the triggers) so Iâll probably pick up the Edge in the near future. The paddles and shortened trigger pools would be great to have
@Rob3008 I agree. I wonder how difficult it wouldâve been to rewrite some of the more cringy/bland dialog and bring the actors back for new VO. After reading a handful of reviews it seems like the writing is the worst aspect while the world and combat are tend highlights.
@itsfoz sound files and pre-rendered cutscenes take up A LOT of space. Guessing this has a ton of high quality music and dialog since we havenât seen much in terms of cutscenes.
Maybe this is just Outriders 2? If the âSonyXSquareEnixâ rumors are true then maybe Outriders will be exclusive moving forward. I could see Sony taking over the development support with XDev and letting Square focus more on the RPG side of the business. If any of these rumors are true I will actually be pretty excited for whatever this game is. I think the majority of people downplaying Outriders didnât actually play it. Reminder that there isnât a single microtransaction or loot box in that game and the gameplay is almost identical to Gears of War plus magic powers. Itâs not a live service game.
Was planning on buying the game on day one/late preorder depending on reviews, but the demo convinced me to at least wait for a sale. I didnât hate it, but it didnât feel like something I needed to buy at launch.

@ActionPanther not sure about performance in ps4, but itâs 60/120 on PS5. Wouldnât compare the combat to DMC, more like Nioh but easier (there are actually some good difficulty modes in case youâre not into typical Nioh/souls like difficulty). Very fun overall
