Re: This Android App Will Transform Your PS5, PS4 Remote Play Experience

Shstrick

@MFTWrecks Right?? I’ve been using remote play on iPad ever since they allowed Bluetooth connection with the DualShock 4 and have rarely had issues besides the odd frame drop. People seem to think remote play hasn’t changed at all since the functionality first debuted, so they’re unwilling to even try it. It’s actually been really good for a while, especially when streaming from PS5 and controller support is great these days.

Re: Sony Concerned Microsoft Could, Knowingly or Not, Sabotage Call of Duty on PlayStation

Shstrick

The points Sony made regarding “behavioral commitments” totally make sense to me. Strictly enforcing any of these commitments would require teams of people to monitor and could still let errors through. Sony also cited multiple cases where MS made concessions to get a deal through and then didn’t honor the concessions. The point they’re making - which is outlined pretty specifically in their response - is that MS is okay with breaking deals and paying a massive fine just to get what they want. MS can easily break any promises made, they have infinite money (they’re the 2nd most profitable company in existence at the moment), so even a $10b fine doesn’t really matter to them.

Oh and why is no outlet reporting on the “offer” to let Sony put COD on PS+ on day one? They made public statements about the offer, but didn’t mention to the public that the offer included Sony paying a licensing fee that would be larger than the entire profit margin of PS+ Extra. “Sure, you can put COD on PS+, but it’s going to cost you $30 a year per user, even if they never download a COD game.”

Re: Skywalker Saga-Style LEGO Harry Potter Reportedly En Route

Shstrick

@Fight_Teza_Fight the Lego Star Wars series existed before the Lego Skywalker Saga. They re-wrote the story to more closely match the important beats of the movies, reworked and modernized the gameplay, and added voice acting. So probably something along the same lines, basically a full remake of all the existing games all packaged together into one product.

Re: European Union Likely to Pass Xbox's $69 Billion Buyout of Activision

Shstrick

@thefourfoldroot1 Wondering who’s next. If this goes through then they’ll try for another and another and another until they’re told they can’t buy anymore. Will they go for the easier to acquire publishers like Ubisoft or Focus, the big boys like EA and Take Two, or just try to buy the Japanese publishers to undercut Sony more? I think people that think it’s impossible for them to buy Japanese devs are vastly underestimating the power of money and just how much of it Microsoft is willing to hand out.

Re: Sony Must Share Details of Exclusivity Deals with Microsoft in FTC's Court Hearing

Shstrick

@GymratAmarillo I’m not really following on the quality argument. Less money means fewer animators to make fluid animations, more simplified or generic music, fewer engineers working on optimization, smaller, less detailed worlds, shorter development time. Sony games aren’t cheap to make and they don’t have piles of cash to burn. When the money they make from COD is cut off they’ll start making cuts immediately or risk going defunct.

Please correct me if I’m way off course 😅.

Edit: just saw your newest comment and it clarifies things. I still think Sony first party games quality will take a hit, but I agree with everything else you said

Re: Sony Must Share Details of Exclusivity Deals with Microsoft in FTC's Court Hearing

Shstrick

@ED_209 not having COD on PS could be enough. Part of Sony’s initial argument was that COD sells more copies on PS each year than all of their first party games combined multiple times over and that money gets funneled back to first party studios. Not having the revenue from COD could potentially cripple development of first party games. We can expect to see massive dips in quality from PS Studios games going forward

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About Final Fantasy 16?

Shstrick

This has been my most anticipated game since the first announcement.

Really hoping the action combat turns out well and I’m confident it will. I’m also envisioning a future where the FF series embraces this combat for some titles while also using the FF7R combat for some. Would love if the inevitable FF9 remake keeps the turn based combat of the original.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Hogwarts Legacy?

Shstrick

@Stocksy I’ve definitely seen a lot of harsh comments towards JKR from the left, including calling for her death, which is not okay. Not that everyone on the left is like that - no group is a monolith. I should also say I’ve seen a lot of spite and nastiness from people on the right and I don’t agree with that nonsense either. I Probably should’ve thought that through and included it in my original comment. My point was just that the game itself seems like a good middle ground and something that can bring people together.

I know there are a lot of people that don’t want to buy the game since JKR is probably making royalties, but what is she really getting per sale? $0.10? She’s also already a billionaire, so realistically she won’t even notice the royalties she’s getting or not getting. With that said, I respect people standing for their principles.

Side note: I’ve always thought of the term “lefty” as derogatory. Am I wrong about that? I try not to offend people if I can help it.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Hogwarts Legacy?

Shstrick

Been playing the deluxe edition and about 20 hours in. Have to say this is probably the best realized world I’ve ever seen in a game. The attention to detail is insane, there’s just so much to see and do.

Hot take: Hogwarts Legacy is better than Horizon Forbidden West.

Political Side Note: This is also the most “inclusive” game I’ve ever played. I’m a fairly hardcore conservative, so I don’t agree with most of the discourse about JKR and the like coming from people on the left. But if you’re one of those people, there is a lot to like here for you. The game doesn’t force you to choose a gender, doesn’t use male/female pronouns anywhere, you can look and sound however you want (you can make what I would consider a female character with a male-sounding voice and vice versa.) For people on my side of the political isle - I don’t feel like I’m being bombarded with ideological stuff at all. I think it hits a good middle-ground where anyone can enjoy it without feeling offended or annoyed.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Be Worried by Live Service Implosion?

Shstrick

I’m sure they’re expecting heavy losses over the next few years. Personally I only have time for 1 or 2 ongoing games at once, so I imagine I won’t play most of Sony’s live service offerings. I’ll just play whichever one is best or none at all.

I think the big thing is that they need to pull players away from existing live service games, so whatever they make will need to be “better” than Fortnite and Warzone, which is a tall order.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a DualSense Edge?

Shstrick

I’ve developed some pain from the DualSense triggers (FFXIV requires lots of double pulls of the triggers) so I’ll probably pick up the Edge in the near future. The paddles and shortened trigger pools would be great to have

Re: Rumour: Sony's Leaked Sci-FI RPG Is from Outriders Dev People Can Fly

Shstrick

Maybe this is just Outriders 2? If the “SonyXSquareEnix” rumors are true then maybe Outriders will be exclusive moving forward. I could see Sony taking over the development support with XDev and letting Square focus more on the RPG side of the business. If any of these rumors are true I will actually be pretty excited for whatever this game is. I think the majority of people downplaying Outriders didn’t actually play it. Reminder that there isn’t a single microtransaction or loot box in that game and the gameplay is almost identical to Gears of War plus magic powers. It’s not a live service game.

Re: Returnal on PC Recommends Ridiculous Amount of RAM

Shstrick

Wonder if this is a replacement for the super fast M.2 SSD. Instead of requiring an expensive SSD they just dump the needed assets into ram. I’m sure there are plenty of people here that have a better idea of how this works that could *confirm or deny this 🤔

Re: God of War Ragnarok Update Adds Anticipated Photo Mode, Fixes a Bunch of Bugs

Shstrick

Just got the platinum and deleted the game last night 😅. Saw a few bugs where Kratos was holding an invisible weapon in the menu and a few times where button prompts for traversal elements would disappear and I had to close and reopen the game to fix it. Other than that, I had no major issues and not a single crash. Pretty solid quality control from start to finish. As a QA engineer myself, stuff like this is awesome to see

Re: Reaction: Sony Poised to End 2022 without Major Press Conference

Shstrick

For once I don’t mind. I’m happy playing some of the ~1000 games in my backlog until the next big Sony game comes out. The quality and quantity of first/second party exclusives hasn’t really slowed down in 15 years, so I don’t have much reason to expect a dearth of big things to play, unless this is the supposed Covid slump catching up with us.

Re: Site News: Would You Kindly Fill in Our Reader Survey?

Shstrick

Maybe it was just me, but this survey was a nightmare to complete on iPhone 14. The form area was too big for the screen on some pages which made it hard to scroll and after finishing the survey the Submit button didn’t work, so a big waste of time for me. Maybe I’ll give it another shot on my PC later.
