I can see this happening. Last year they had 2 State of Play showings one month apart (April 29th and May 27th), which seemed to work out pretty well. The first was more general games shown and the second was the Horizon blowout with the release date, so they might just do the same thing again with God Of War.
The Firefly Edition stuff looks cool, but I know I would look at it once then put it away and never look at it again, so I went with the standard edition. If my wife wasn’t so into TLoU 2 I probably would’ve waited for a sale, so to rationalize the $70 I’ll keep telling myself I’m supporting the creation single player games. At least I know I’ll play through it many times. What’s the rule? $1 per hour?
Do we really need to see COD anymore? It’s the same every year. We know what it is. No need to waste time showing COD game that’s basically a shot-for-shot remake of a game that came out 10 years ago. With that said, good graphics.
Really sick of all the rumor mongers peddling BS the week of all the major showcases. Can we not just wait until Summer Game Fest stuff is over before speculating and making stuff up out of whole cloth? Clearly the grifters have learned this works in their favor, but I really hope some of these people get left in the dust.
I’m down. The original might be my favorite game of all time and I play through ~once a year. Now I’ll just be playing a better version once a year. Can’t wait!
@Deoxyr1bose Games media are mostly anti-Sony right now. Seems like journos are maybe tired of the Sony style games (big budget single player) while actual gamers are not. I’ve had friends that have Xbox’s come over and horizon blows their minds. They generally aren’t even aware of most big PlayStation games
For me, God of War being included is a bummer since I already have a physical and digital version, but the Nickelodeon game will be fun to play with my son someday. No interest in the anime game at all for me. For people that don’t have GoW already and actually want to try it, this month is okay.
If you’re a PlayStation fan and don’t already have God of War, what are you even doing? This is a top 5 all-time PlayStation game that’s now available on PS+, PS+ Collection, PS+ Extra, and regularly goes on sale for $10. Get on it!
@RevGaming illegal? It’s not like leaks cause serious damage. If anything leaks generate more hype. There’s also a simple solution to fighting against leaks: offer employees a bonus for releasing the game without leaks happening. No leaks = devs make more money. Leaks = everyone loses the bonus and internal leakers are more likely to be exposed.
@Mintie This! A lot of people are understandably skeptical, since the last mainline FF game was half-baked, but Yoshi-P and CBU3 have been crushing it consistently for 10 years. If people want to know where all the hype for XVI is coming from they need to go play XIV NOW.
@Serpenterror it’s the same writer that wrote FFXIV Heavensward, which is basically the best final fantasy story, so I’d expect this to be pretty fantastic
This may be one of the best video game trailers ever. Square have been killing it with the recent final fantasy trailers (this, VII Remake, Endwalker). That score! Masayoshi Soken is definitely up there with Nobuo Uematsu. Absolute fire
@rjejr They originally said they would have more information in 2022, not necessarily a release date, but at least we have some rough release window now. They said recently to expect FF7R news in June, so maybe we’ll get another State of Play, Showcase, or just a Square Enix event later in the month with that and Star Ocean info. I’m betting the FF7R news is just announcing the game is coming to Xbox, but fingers crossed we get some info on Part 2.
After the masterpiece of FF7R and learning that Yoshi P is involved, this is now my most anticipated game. Even if it turns out to be bad, it’s the most intriguing thing on the horizon for me
The last State of Play was a big nothingburger for me, so I expect this one to be the same. However I could be surprised by some good ports of older games or some new indies. What has Supergiant been up to since Hades I wonder. 🤔
Not a fan of Bungie’s model at all. I tend to value story very highly and Bungie locks off content regularly, so I lost the plot a long time ago. If they could find a way to keep all the story content available I’d be into it. FFXIV has been able to do it right, keeping all content available through 4 expansions now without removing anything.
If they do Gran Turismo as a documentary series showing Polyphony Digital’s work on the game series in the same style and appreciation for cars as the videos in GT7 I’ll watch it on the streaming service and buy multiple copies after the fact. Would make an excellent Father’s Day gift
I’d give this a try, but I really hope they do something with Resistance 1-3 soon. 3 has been a streaming game on PS Now since forever, but 1 and 2 never made it, probably because they ran terribly on the original hardware so streaming them would be even worse. I’d definitely buy remastered versions of all of them if they were to go that route. Same with Killzone and most other first party IP honestly.
Will definitely wait for reviews for this, but it’s looking pretty good so far. I grew up with Harry Potter and was always a big fan, but the magic has worn off over the years. This looks like it could be just the thing to pull me back in and tug on my nostalgia strings
So it sounds like they’re charging based on the price you paid for your current subscription instead of just a flat rate based on the remaining duration of your current subscription, if I’m understanding this correctly. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just make it like this:
Add a button to start the upgrade/purchase process Add a scroll wheel for selecting the total duration of sub you want to buy Subtract from the total price based on the duration of your existing sub Show a total price that calculates on the fly as you make the above selections.
I work in software development. This really isn’t that hard and would take 3 people a week or two, at most, to implement with a functional UI. It might not look pretty, but it would work.
Doesn’t this line up with the Xbox showcase? Betting it’s just an announcement of the Xbox version. Still hoping it’s a Remake part 2 update or FFVII Ever Crisis, which is supposed to release this year
Thinking of what could be updated in a remake, some things come to mind for me:
1) New accessibility options - tLou2 has a ton of awesome options available 2) better graphics (of course the PS4 remaster looks great, but better is better) 3) New gameplay functionality such as: going prone; environment interactions; objects to hide under; better gunplay; more weapon options; more open environments; more enemy types; dodging; jumping 4) updated trophy list. No multiplayer trophies! 5) updated music, sounds, VO 6) new Factions multiplayer included
Not that they couldn’t have done something new, but just some potential things that could be coming.
Cool! Never played the original release, but I was very interested when it came out. They were out there talking about plans to revive the game on podcasts a while back and it sounds like they recognize the flaws of the original and know how to fix them. Looking forward to giving this a shot!
The PS+ offerings have been okay - definitely not the best, but PS Now has stepped up in the quality recently with this month being a handful of bangers. Hoping this is a sign of the quality of PS+ Extra and Premium. IMO, aside from day one first party games, this is on par with the standard Gamepass month, at least in terms of quality (I know Gamepass usually has more quantity added each month).
Pretty sure PlayStation would net them ~40% boost in sales across all platforms as that seems to be the general outcome with all other games. You’d think PS would be the second highest priority platform after Switch, especially for indie studios.
Seems like devs/publishers would have the option to opt out of PS+ in the first place instead of getting themselves into a bad contractual agreement. Big publishers would have lawyers reviewing the contracts before signing and now small devs should at least be aware of the requirement and be able to decide for themselves if they’re willing to go the extra mile and make a trial for their game. If it’s not worth it for the devs, then they should opt out of PS+.
Definitely curious as to how MS are managing to churn out so many consoles while the competition is struggling. I don’t know a single other person that’s been able to get a PS5, but the Series S has never gone out of stock at my local target in almost a year.
Seeing lots of interesting discussion about this. Offering timed trials is great and it’s cool to see Sony offering a service their competitors don’t offer, but they’re also charging for it (although it could also be seen as an added perk to PS+, depending on how much you value the different aspects of the service). I wonder how much control the devs have over the length and features included in each demo. Could they offer an extended trial, say 8 hours instead of 2, but only allow access to the multiplayer and block the single player altogether? Maybe they’ll use trials to market to players individually by sending an email to players that play a trial but don’t buy the full game. I also wonder if devs would consider reducing prices to get under the $34 requirement if including a trial takes significant dev time like a standard demo does. Lots of possibilities.
@Would_you_kindly Yes, but they historically are the smallest region in terms of console hardware and console game sales. It’s primarily a mobile/PC market.
Really looks like they’re rolling this out based on potential server load - smallest markets first then the next smallest, etc. If they release in EU first and the servers can’t handle it, it could potentially ruin the rollout for the other markets.
All markets rolled out within a month doesn’t seem too bad to me.
So I guess nobody else has played the Nioh or Uncharted PS5 remasters 😅
Also: “To be an exclusive, the game must fit into at least one of these categories”. Am I still half asleep or should this say “must not be on a Microsoft or Nintendo console”?
@themightyant That does look awesome and those devs definitely need recognition for doing the best remaster. I want that released everywhere and I also want a version with new character models, lighting, brand new backgrounds, sounds, music, effects but with the same scenes, gameplay, etc (I’m thinking more like Crash Insane Trilogy or the recent Spyro trilogy). Optional voice acting would also be great.
And on the wishlist it goes! I also just picked up the Lego Harry Potter Collection for $4 in the current sale. My son is going to have a great year with these!
Seeing people say the sales are irrelevant since it’s also on Gamepass, but it really probably isn’t irrelevant for the studio. There’s a lot of data based on the Gamepass/not Gamepass question that we don’t have like:
Are people that pay full price more likely to finish the game? Play sequels? Buy sequels? If so, then putting the game on a service like Gamepass/PS+ might actually be damaging to the future of the studio even if their player count on the subscription service is huge. If player numbers continue to decline for subsequent games in the series then what’s the value for MS/PS to pay to put future games on their service?
Again this all depends on the data that we don’t have here, but it’s certainly an important part of the conversation.
Definitely wish they had emulation running instead of streaming, but at least in my case the streaming via PS Now works great for me in my tiny backwoods town in central Missouri (US). I also tried the streaming via Gamepass ultimate recently, but the input latency was so bad it was completely unplayable. I guess what I’m saying is people should just try it for themselves and see how it goes, because it seems like everyone’s experiences differ wildly. It might not be as bad as you think, or it might be much worse! 😅
Definitely agree with this. I’m happy to pay for most of the big first party games on day one if it means the quality doesn’t have to drop to stay afloat and everything I don’t buy day one I’ll just wait for a reasonable sale or wait for it to be on PS Plus, whichever makes sense in the moment. I do disagree with people saying Gamepass is causing quality issues with Xbox exclusives; I think people have had Gamepass-tinted-glasses on for the last few years and are finally realizing the Xbox first party lineup just isn’t as good as PlayStation’s (with a few exceptions, of course.)
