Re: The Witcher 3 PS5 Has 'Dozens' of Improvements, Integrated Mods, and New Netflix Show Content

Shstrick

Interested to see how they implemented ray tracing. Wondering if a game like this that doesn’t have a lot of shiny surfaces could handle RT at 60fps if they use FSR2.1. It makes sense that it wouldn’t work for Cyberpunk since everything in that game is reflective, but this might be a different situation. Not getting my hopes up and not really bothered by it either way, just that it would be cool. I’ll be playing this either way

Re: Forspoken Is a Modern PS5 Open World Game, Alright

Shstrick

Guess I should post something on topic…

I think they’ve finally sold me. Assuming I have time to play it at release I’ll probably pick this up. Really hoping the writing ends up being better than what we’ve seen so far, and yeah, it’s another open world rpg, but it actually seems to have some quality to it.

Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for November 2022 Announced

Shstrick

@ZeD ah maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. I definitely agree they need to add some serious value to Premium in terms of downloadable games.

I’m okay with the streaming PS3 games personally since I never had a PS3, but I’d much prefer them to be downloadable.

So many PS1, 2, and PSP games they could be adding. I have to imagine they’re just sitting on them waiting for a rainy day. In my opinion the rainy day is coming. They need to get some value added before the 1 Year anniversary of the PS+ revamp or people will be canceling en masse.

Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for November 2022 Announced

Shstrick

@ZeD I don’t see what’s wrong with Extra getting Kingdom Hearts. Anything added to any tier is a good thing, Premium should just be getting more. Instead of thinking “Premium should have gotten Kingdom Hearts, not extra!” we should be thinking “I’m glad the Extra and Premium tiers are getting Kingdom Hearts, but Premium should also have some classics added on top of that.”

Re: Upcoming PS5, PS4 Games for November and December 2022

Shstrick

Pre-ordered (I know it’s dumb) GoW, Tactics Ogre (NintendoLife gave the PSP version a 10/10!), and Crisis Core. Might also pick up Callisto Protocol depending on reviews and the amount of free time I have, which realistically will be exactly zero hours 😅.

Re: Despite Scrapping PS4, Gotham Knights Is Just 30fps on PS5

Shstrick

I mean, it kind of is as simple as reducing resolution (and reducing the number/quality of other assets being streamed). Devs have been doing exactly that for 30 years now. Unless what they’re saying is they’re already doing those things just to make co-op playable. If not, then it’s probably just not ready for launch and we’ll see a performance mode later on.

With that said, 60 fps is great, but I’ve been playing a lot of older games lately and I’m finding it easier and easier to get used to 30, so not super worried about this.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 448

Shstrick

Finishing up God of War 2 on Vita and jumping into God of War 3. This is my first time playing 2 and 3, despite being a huge fan of GoW 2005 and 2018. Besides some of Kratos dialog and a few “spicy” moments these games hold up soooo well. Can’t believe I didn’t play these when they came out. Now I need PS4/5 versions!

Re: Persona Fans on PlayStation Get Sold Short Again as Xbox Deal Reveals Native Ports

Shstrick

@Gloamin “They also seem to be specifically targeting established companies with history on other platforms”

This ^^^ seems to be true. They also seem to be targeting companies that won’t put their games on Gamepass. There were no Bethesda games on Gamepass before MS bought them and Activision was pretty adamant about not putting their games on Gamepass as well. Makes me wonder about who will be next. Sega and Ubisoft seem to be playing nice and letting their games go to Gamepass, but what about Capcom and Konami? With Sony paying for exclusivity for a few Final Fantasy games, I wouldn’t even be surprised if we start hearing about MS buying Square Enix the week after the Activision deal closes.

Re: Sony Studio Haven Wants to Change Game Development Forever

Shstrick

I don’t think this means what people think it means. They’re talking about developing in the cloud so they don’t have to download new builds all the time, saving development time.

Imagine the current build for a game is 150GB (before optimization) and each dev needs a new build every day or every other day. Normally they would download a new build over night so it’s ready to go the next morning, but sometimes giant downloads fail and have to be restarted during normal work hours (a failed download can mean half a day of work lost in some cases). This would resolve a lot of those issues, potentially saving substantial amounts of time (or maybe just 30 minutes a day or so). However, things still have to be tested on real hardware constantly, so devs and testers will still need to download builds and install them on real machines (PCs & consoles), otherwise you can end up with a Cyberpunk 2077 situation where nobody bothered to test on the base hardware and the final product ran like trash.

There are definitely some interesting problems to solve with this approach. Like what happens when code is merged? Is it done on a per-instance basis or does everyone get an updated build all at the same time? If development is done in the cloud instead of locally, how do account for latency, server maintenance/downtime, version control, security, critical/blocker bugs causing crashes, etc.?

This isn’t about consumers streaming the game, but allowing a more streamlined agile environment for developers, meaning they can make games faster, fix issues faster, share resources more efficiently. At least taking the information we have at face value this doesn’t seem like a monumental shift for development.

Re: Microsoft Says PS5, PS4 Would Still Be Bigger if Every Call of Duty Player Switched to Xbox

Shstrick

@MrGilly69 well, there could be a divestiture where Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard agree to stop doing business in the UK, then they could close the acquisition. But that would be insane for companies of this size because it would mean billions in lost revenue every year, laying off all UK employees, moving offices, etc.

There are probably other ways it can go through, but divestiture is the most obvious to me. I just googled this by the way. I really have no idea what I’m talking about here and could be totally wrong.

Re: Microsoft Says PS5, PS4 Would Still Be Bigger if Every Call of Duty Player Switched to Xbox

Shstrick

@Robocod 100%. The people cheering this on because Sony also purchases studios are only showing that it’s really about politics and wanting their world-controlling corporation to win. If they cared about people being able to play games everywhere then they’d be tweeting at Daddy Phil to put a stop to this.

Once this goes through it’ll be about 35 IP, some of which were once PS exclusives, that Microsoft bought up to take away from Playstation. My guess is Xbox plan on buying any publisher that refuses to put their games on Gamepass. They can afford to buy literally all of them, so I wonder who’s next.

Re: Mass DDoS Attack Unplugs Overwatch 2's PS5, PS4 Servers at Launch

Shstrick

@OmegaStriver Not surprising people think the DDoS isn’t real. They’re launching a free to play sequel to a highly successful multiplayer game on Xbox One, Series S/X, PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC all on the same day AND with cross play. We’ve seen this from many different studios many times over the years. When the servers are getting hammered hard enough there’s basically no difference between an overload due to high player numbers and a DDoS. The DDoS floods the servers with requests just as millions of client devices would flood the servers with requests. Blizzard probably just trying to cover their own screw-up of not being prepared. Let’s not forget this happens with basically every Activision-Blizzard multiplayer release.

Edit: not trying to be too harsh here. I’m not too bothered by the servers being down at the moment. I’m okay waiting a week or two for things to get ironed out.

Re: Mass DDoS Attack Unplugs Overwatch 2's PS5, PS4 Servers at Launch

Shstrick

@Totheteeth Yup! I recently got a new phone number, but there’s no way to update it in my account because their stupid system sends the verification code to a phone number that no longer exists and it doesn’t give the option to verify via email. Tried contacting support, but they aren’t responding right now, probably due to all the issues they’re having all at once.

Re: Overwatch 2 Is Out Now on PS5, PS4

Shstrick

How does the “I’ve played Overwatch 1 and don’t want to unlock everyone again” thing work? I played a ton on PC, but never on PlayStation and I’d like to be primarily on PS going forward.

I realize I was on another thread saying how much I like to unlock things. I may be having second thoughts 😅

Re: Disney + Relaunched on PS5 with 4K HDR Support

Shstrick

@nessisonett Just speaking anecdotally, my 4K TCL tv has the 4K Disney+ app, but the tv runs like garbage. The PS5 is much faster to load and navigate. Not really a difference in terms of image quality, but far superior performance makes a huge difference for me.

Re: Talking Point: We Need to Discuss This Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster

Shstrick

Is this all but confirmed? All I’ve seen are a bunch of media outlets referencing a rumor about a supposed leaked document, but none of them have actualy seen the document or confirmed its validity. Everyone’s just referencing each other as if that means something is true.

Personally, I’m okay with whatever remasters Sony wants to do because I can choose what to spend my money on, although I’d prefer remasters of ps3 games right now (God of War, Ratchet and Clank, infamous, Sly, Killzone), and I imagine some of them are in the works. If this is a $10 upgrade I’ll buy it.

Re: Sony Gates Customer Service Priority Behind New PS Stars Program

Shstrick

I do some customer support at my job, so I think I kind of understand why they’re doing this, although it’s not a good solution IMO. My guess is they assume the people that spend the most money and play the most games would be more likely to encounter actual issues that could affect a large number of people. Say someone that plays tons of PS games finds something that crashes the PS5 operating system, Sony would want to find and fix that ASAP before it starts happening to other customers. Less experienced customers usually have issues that can be resolved by reading the directions or doing a quick google search. So this seems to be a way to triage the critical issues more quickly. A better solution would be to implement a system that sorts the critical issues from the nonsense automatically, like some kind of AI. Or Sony Support could try being better at their jobs 😂
