Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Shstrick

If they have plans to add more content to avoid the need to replay races over and over, then why reduce the rewards now and not later when that content is available?

As far as making the cars in-game prices relative to their real world prices: did they not do that in all the previous games by making some cars more expensive than others? Why bring that up at all in this statement if it’s what you’ve always done?

I don’t really have a problem with the pricing since I’m fine grinding out races in a racing game that plan on playing for a long time to come, but it’s clear now that microtransactions are the big motivating factor for these changes and Sony is just straight up lying about it.

Re: Gran Turismo 7's Prestige Cars to Be Dynamically Priced by Real-World Valuation Company

Shstrick

Good to see no one in the media is explaining that the MXT in GT7 are completely optional and NOT NEEDED AT ALL if you plan on actually playing the game (keep up the good work everyone). You make plenty of credits through normal play to buy 90% of the cars in the game and you may have to grind a bit — not a lot — for the other 10%. But grinding in this game just means more racing, which is the entire point of the game. So unless you’re buying a racing game so you can skip all the racing and just collect all the cars as fast as possible then you have ZERO NEED to ever buy a the microtransactions.

If you’re buying the game to collect all the cars ASAP and don’t care about the actual racing to the point where you spend real money on your favorite cars then maybe you should just do a Google image search for the car you want. Because that’s essentially what you’re getting if you’re not doing actual racing: you’re spending real world money on a jpeg you could have for free.

Re: Talking Point: In Theory, Could Xbox Game Pass Come to PS5, PS4?

Shstrick

I don’t see why Sony would ever do this. What would the revenue split even look like? Sony gets 30% of $15 a month and in return they lose billions a year in sales? I know many people that went with Xbox because of Gamepass, and besides the one or two sports games a year and CoD none of them buy games anymore. I think this would probably happen on PlayStation as well. Maybe people would buy whatever 1st party PlayStation games there are, but everything else would stop selling.I think Sony needs to stick to the current business model or find a way to make their own service sustainable. Also they should just make their own military shooter and Diablo clone.

Re: Best Assassin's Creed Games

Shstrick

Everybody really wearing rose-tinted glasses for the earlier AC games. I played through the entire series over the last 2 years and, at least by today’s standards, everything before Unity feels like hot garbage. The traversal system is absolutely infuriating and the combat is either

A. One-hit-kill or
B. Parry and then one-hit-kill.

The dialog is also cringier than 90% of modern games. The overall concepts of hunting down a target and deciding how to kill them are pretty good, or they would be if there was anything dynamic about them.

The only thing good about ACIV is the ship combat, but that gets repetitive after the first few hours.

TLDR: I used to like the early AC games, but then Origins came out and I realized how terrible they actually are (Unity feels like a decent middle-ground). People should play AC2/4, then go play Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla.

Edit: Based on other comments in this thread, I feel I should also say this:

My opinion really shouldn’t matter to anyone but me, just like your opinions really shouldn’t matter to me. What’s really important is that we all play games and at least we have this in common, which is pretty cool. If my dumb comments, which are dumb and ultimately unimportant, have offended you, just go kill some stuff in a game and pretend it’s me. You’re all the good guys in my book.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Is Now the Most Profitable Game in the Entire Series, Surpasses 24 Million Players

Shstrick

Unlike other MMOs, FFXIV doesn’t drop beginner friendly content with each expansion 95% of the game can be played solo. For the other 5%, there’s matchmaking and, unlike other MMOs, the matchmaking is very very good. The story of each expansion is huge and continues the story of the previous expansion, so at this point FFXIV is basically XIV plus 4 sequels. Oh also the base game and first expansion are free, which is like 400 hours of gameplay, so there’s that.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Far Cry 6?

Shstrick

I’ve stopped buying Ubisoft games at launch altogether. They have steep discounts all the time, so I’ll probably pick this up in a year or two with all the DLC for ~$20

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for October 2021?

Shstrick

Always feel like these polls should come out after everyone’s had a chance to download the games and try them out. I’d be more interested in seeing how many people actually tried the games and how many of those people liked the games they played.

With that said, He’ll Let Loose looks like fun for a bit, MKX is a genuinely great game, and PGA games are pretty chill, so not bad if you don’t already own these.

Re: What Is Going on with Sony's Supposed Acquisition of Bluepoint?

Shstrick

I agree. If not BluePoint getting cold feet about the deal, it might have not been a thing at all and somebody at PlayStation just made a random graphic for fun which got mixed up. This wouldn’t be the first time Sony let an important studio go. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft saw the writing on the wall and offered BluePoint twice as much money or something.

Re: Uncharted's Amy Hennig, Gary Whitta Are Writing PS5's Forspoken

Shstrick

Idk. I think people put too much stock in Gary Whitta’s writing abilities and Amy Hennig hasn’t finished a project since Uncharted 3. The new trailer has cringe written all over it to me, but the action and world look good. It’s also the same devs that did FF15 and I loved that game’s world and combat, so there’s hope.

Re: Feature: Our PS5, PS4 Predictions for PlayStation Showcase 2021

Shstrick

I’ve been feeling very pessimistic about PlayStation showings lately and I’m not sure why. Gaming on PS5 has been awesome for me. I think I might be broken..

My predictions for the showcase:
More Deathloop, more Horizon gameplay, no mention of BluePoint (I’ll believe the acquisition is real when they say it’s real).

What I want from the showcase:
These InFamous rumors to be true (really anything infamous is good to me). Anything Metal Gear related. FFXVI. Remasters of other PS3 exclusives (I didn’t have a PS3, so everything is new to me). Don’t spend time on gameplay of Deathloop, Horizon, God of War, or Gran Turismo - I don’t need to see anymore from these as I’m already sold.

Re: Former Sony Boss Fearful of Industry Consolidation

Shstrick

@theheadofabroom Zenimax Online Studios is the development studio that makes Elder Scrolls Online. ZeniMax Media is the publisher

Correction: ZeniMax Media is the parent company that owns that big group of developers as well as “Bethesda Softworks” which is the in-house publisher that publishes all ZeniMax Media games, including games made by ZeniMax Game Studios.

Re: Former Sony Boss Fearful of Industry Consolidation

Shstrick

Been seeing a lot of people claiming the Sony acquisitions and Microsoft acquisitions are the same, so here’s the lists for each company’s acquisitions from the last 10 years:

Sony:
Media Molecule
Sucker Punch
Insomniac
Housemarque
Nixxes

Microsoft:
Twisted Pixel
Press Play
Mojang
Ninja Theory
Undead Labs
Compulsion Games
Playground Games
InXile Entertainment
Obsidian Entertainment
Id Software
Arkane Studios
Machinegames
Tango Gameworks
Alpha Dog Games
Bethesda Game Studios
Zenimax Online Studios
Doublefine

Re: Sony: PlayStation Studios Is Expanding, and Always on the Lookout for Incredible Experiences

Shstrick

I definitely don’t want an acquisition war to happen, because clearly Microsoft could and would buy basically every other publisher if they wanted, but I really think Sony needs to lock down some of their more important partnerships while they still can. Microsoft’s new model is basically: use our mountains of cash to either put all competitors out of business or at least get them to the point that they’re no longer serious competitors; and I would bet that a possible move on Microsoft’s table includes throwing massive amounts of money at studios Sony has historically partnered with to take them out of the equation. I’d be surprised if MS isn’t looking into buying Bluepoint, Housemarque, Team Ninja, Square Enix, Sega (for Altus), etc.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade PS5 Download Size Is Still Huge

Shstrick

I think they said the reason the PS4 version was so big was because they used so many unique assets to build the world - besides the interior of the reactors, every area of the game looks different. If that’s the case then it makes sense that the PS5 version would also be big, especially if they’re using higher resolution textures. Still pretty impressive that the file size is smaller than the original.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

Shstrick

As long as the games are still good, I’m not bothered by the inconsistent messaging.

I imagine the the process of determining if a game will be cross-generation is something like:
Sony to dev: “does your game do anything that can’t be turned off or scaled down to run on PS4?”
Dev to Sony: “nope”
Sony to dev: “make a PS5 and PS4 version.

Re: Talking Point: What Free June 2021 PS Plus Games Do You Want?

Shstrick

Anything decent works for me. I feel PS+ has been pretty good since the PS5 came out, so if they keep up the quality I’ll be happy.

My picks from the last few months in no particular order:
Hollow knight
Maneater
Control
Wreckfest
Battlefield V
Bugsnax
Greedfall
Remnant: From the Ashes
Days Gone
Subnautica

It’s not Gamepass, but it’s pretty good and they won’t be rotated out of my library.
