Re: PS5 Update 2.0 Can Improve Game Performance in Specific Situations

SilkySmile89

@TheDudeElDuderino There is no option for boost mode like on PS4 pro, is always on internally. Developers need to update their games to take advantage of PS5's boost mode (mostly all of them need to remove the frame caps). But this is not that easy like it sounds. Most games are developed with 30fps in mind and you will have frame passing issues, audio issues, lipsync issues.

Re: PS5 Update 2.0 Can Improve Game Performance in Specific Situations

Had the console for 4 months now. No issues with rest mode. It's always in rest mode with Pulse headphone connected and no issues wakeing it up. Had an issue starting up Prey, but the CD version 1.0, just blacked screen my console. Also uncharted 4 has some texture smirring, same on version 1.0. can't update my games because I'm on board of a ship, wifi is 10$/1Gb. Hoping that I will disembark soon and install some PS5 games at home to see how the console really performs. Loving GOT, LOU2 and GOW at 60 fps, can't go back any more to 30fps, games are unplayable for me ) Curios If the console has any coil whine in more demanding games, but untill now it's whisper quiet.

Re: Gran Turismo 7's PS5 Ray Tracing Will Be Restricted to Replays

SilkySmile89

@RunGMhx You have to lower your expectations from a 500$ machine. A high end PC can barely do 4K with ray tracing with 60fps without dlss enabled. What you see on the box is just the spec for HDMi 2.1. More or less it has a RX6700 with 4 cores disabled, plus the shared memmory pool with the CPU. And you have the power limit to consider for the variable frequency. The PS5 is actually a mid-high spec laptop. But again given the price point you don't have much to complain about. If FSR will get better over time or even Sony's checkerboarding then you will see more games at "4k" 60fps and RT enabled, but that will take time untill devs get used to the new hardware.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Know How to Feel About This PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade Uproar

SilkySmile89

@SJBUK I don't say that it's not extra work. But I'm only referring now at cross-gen games. Nobody is taking full advantage of the PS5 even Sony, especially now with there ports of GOT or Death Stranding, are just patched PS4 games, and that's what HFW will be also. Especially because this game started development on PS4. If Sony wanted to increase prices for games, just make 70 for all cross-gen games.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Know How to Feel About This PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade Uproar

SilkySmile89

@BigBirdy if Sony is short on cash they should cut their loses. I'm talking about their mobile division that only hemerages money. Join PS+ with PSNow, hire the guys who made the PS3 emulator on PC and just make a proper emulator for the older consoles on PS5, and then they can stop the PS3 Streaming farms, that also is a waste of money, and finally they can make PS+/PSNow available in all territories that they have PSStore already available. After all oh this, Sony won't need to nickel & dime for 10$ on cross gen games or crunch studios.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Know How to Feel About This PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade Uproar

SilkySmile89

@SJBUK But for a 3rd party developer those are just gimmicks. It's just additional work that not many developers are doing. Especially because of the competition. PS4 had the touchpad and six axis and almost nobody used those. I'm not a developer but the ideea behind 3d audio and RT, you have dedicated hardware that can calculate everything and you don't need to fake it or bake it in like before.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Know How to Feel About This PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade Uproar

SilkySmile89

@CynicalGamer what is this change in infrastructure ?? They are both x86 systems, they use the same API and same underlying OS(BSD). Because of the SSD ?? Most devs even don't take full advantage of that yet just so they don't brake their cross-gen games. Most devs have less optimisations to do because of less hardware constraints. On Sony's side is another story because they don't release games on PC, most of their engines are limited by the hardware constraints of the PS4. Why consumers should pay for their shortcomings ? You want to shift to 70$ than shift all cross-gen games to 70$ and that's that. But there is no reason to pay extra 10$ when most of the work is actually going in to the PS4 version because of the optimisation to make it work properly.

Re: Fans Want Sony to Reconsider Horizon Forbidden West's PS4 to PS5 Upgrade

SilkySmile89

@thefourfoldroot removing duplication of data is just adding metadata to your engine, and it's not more difficult it's just easier. Like I said any new additions to engine or API, ar just that additions but the y both share the same base API, it's just scaled differently between the systems. Sony has no leg to rest on. The process now is even simpler because they don't need to do so much optimization for PS5 because they don't have the same hardware limitations like on PS4. Now with their crosgen games they have more work to do on PS4 to optimize and scale then on PS5.

Re: Fans Want Sony to Reconsider Horizon Forbidden West's PS4 to PS5 Upgrade

SilkySmile89

Why do most developers have no issues bringing fast PS5 editions of their games on the store ?? Because most developers are on PC as well, and their engines have no limitations. The extra expense what Sony is trying to push now on consumers is because there engines were built around the limitations of PS4(30fps engines) that's why on PS4 pro most upgrades where just assets and resolution bumps. PS5 has no separate development, it's the same API, same arhitecture , same OS.

Re: Fans Want Sony to Reconsider Horizon Forbidden West's PS4 to PS5 Upgrade

SilkySmile89

@thefourfoldroot Sony likes you to think that PS5 development is separate and that's why they are trying to push this "extra cost" on the consumers. But the reality is that the development is one and the same. PS4 and PS5 they both are x86 arhitecture, they both run on the same underlying OS and that's BSD, they use the same development API gnm and gnmX maybe with some additional tools for PS5 (like the haptic API). There is no reason for this "upgrade". On PC you never payed extra if the game supported DX11 & 12, you didn't pay extra for games when you upgraded your system. It's all nonsense and people should not endorse this kind of practices.

Re: Well? We're Waiting! Fans Dig Up Sony's God of War, PSVR Summer Promise

Regarding PSVR2, just checked online that the Texas Instruments TUSB1044 10 Gbps USB Type-C bi-directional linear redriver (as per ifixit.com) inside the PS5 has "DisplayPort 1.4 as Alternate Mode" and can use all 4 lanes in the same time to transmit the full bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.4 of 32.4Gbs (3840 x 2160 / 120 Hz / 10 Bit Chroma / HDR)

So most probably the next PSVR will use the 2 front ports (USB-A for additional power and sensor data)

Re: PS5 Revision Teardown Prompts Cooling Concerns

SilkySmile89

@SJBUK as long as the box is not reduced in size, when you are shipping by container on sea, you will be limited by volume before weight. You can load up to 25 Tons in a 40feet container. And the freight is the same. It's different story if you ship them by air.

Re: FIFA 22 PS4 to PS5 Upgrade Locked Behind £90 Ultimate Edition

SilkySmile89

EA like Sony, they belive in generations. More and more I understand that this statement is about money and not the games. You will have small upgrades on PS5 to justify the 10$/£/€ hike (GoT Japanese lipsync) When we will have 100mil PS5s out there we will see less games coming to Ps4 and with it no need for “free” upgrades or enhance editions for PS5.

Re: Random: Sony Ad Shows PS5 Console Placed Upside Down

SilkySmile89

A lot of people are complaining about the ps5 design but I say it’s the BEST EVER. Presently i’m serving on a ship and I have my Ps5 with me. The Ps5 when set horizontally has such a good low centre of gravity, it’s like a Porsche. Vessel’s been rolling like 20 degrees from side to side … PS5 didn’t even move a inch.

Re: Sony Fans Bicker Over Ghost of Tsushima PS5 Paywall

SilkySmile89

I think because of the scalpers Sony has a serious cash flow problem. And trying to find where ever they can somenextra money. That’s why all their future projects looks like they’re all crossgen. But to suck dry you’re fanbase is not a solution. With a playerbase of 120mil if they make PSNow largely available in other countries they could really have a gamepass contender even better. But time will tell after Ps5 will be available in stores will see if Sony’s software revenue will increase or not and then we will se a shift in prices.

Re: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Won't Have Microtransactions

SilkySmile89

Looking forward for this one. That's even better news that the game will not have micro transactions. Comparing to Ubisoft, that they didn't even release a game and already talking about DLC. Miss the time when you where paying for a full game from the get go. It's time for people to rise up to this practice and stop Ubisoft and other publishers from milking dry their costumers and followers.
