Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

SilkySmile89

@NEStalgia The big fan is useless if you have restricted airflow. And negative air pressure is never ideal for cooling your system. Also hot air raises up, just simple physics, you don’t need a fan to do that. Would have been better to put the fan down to push fresh air inside the system. The APU is just passively cooled, never a good idea. Check other compact PC system like Corsair One, to mediate the restricted airflow, both cpu gpu are water cooled. And XSX is even more restricted because of the vertical stand that covers most of the intake at the bottom.

Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

SilkySmile89

@BlueOcean I’m so tired hearing about TFLOPs all the time. It’s not a mining rig. The boost will work like on any modern GPU, if it will have power headroom it will clock higher. And like Cerny said, and if you will check GPU benchmarks, higher clocks are better than more CU. Most developers are making games for minimum common denominator, if that is PS5 than most of XSX CU will be idle. XSX has no independent HW for audio or decompression, it’s all handled on the CPU that extra 100mhz will not count for nothing. 3,8 ghz will only work on BC titles where multiple threads or not needed. Plus you will have to account for the biggest bottleneck on Xbox , the OS(3 of them). RAW power doesn’t account for nothing when optimization on consoles is possible and easy when you have only 1 revision of HW, and Sony made that easy for developers since PS4. We will see, but Sony will impress with it’s inferior console

EDIT: And a big headache for developers will be the split speed RAM on XSX, most developers will not bust their heads to go over the 10gigs of Fast Memory.
IMO (no conf) but XSX will throttle more than PS5 due to the restrictive nature of their cooling solution.

Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

@get2sammyb I can't believe this article got more than 300 comments. Everybody is really on edge. The thing about the UI is not such a big deal like some people make it. If they will go with the same base for the OS, and that's BSD and most probably they will, the OS should have at least all features from the PS4 and just improved for PS5. With PS4 was new territory, but now they just improved on their PS4 platform. They are bigger questions at stake:

  • can you restore your PS4 backup directly to PS5
  • will all your PS4 saves work with PS5
  • can you plug your attached storage from PS4 to PS5 without formatting or redownloading the games
  • can you install the OS on the expanded storage in case you're internal SSD fails
  • will PSVR work with the new camera

I think this is more important than UI. PS1 and 2 you had no UI it just played games.

Re: This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD

SilkySmile89

I'm curious if you can transfer directly you're USB game drive from PS4 to PS5 without the need to delete all the games and reformat it specifically for PS5. That would be nice.
Even I wrote to Cerny on twitter regarding failures if it's possible to install the OS on the expanded storage drive. I hope sony didn't skim out on cheap drives for PS5 for this to be a issue.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

SilkySmile89

Most people are annoyed that this game was not offered as a upgrade (paid/free whatever) for people who allready own the game on PS4. The remaster is just useless now when the game is still new. It's the same game with better assets but is the same game , same engine , telling you that you can't shift you're saves is just ... Balls.

FYI for all. There is no "Boost Mode" on PS5. Cerny made it clear that it will have 3 modes of operation. PS5 and Legacy PS4 and PS4 Pro. The games will play exactly like they did on you're PS4. They will run better ONLY if developers will patch there games and remove framecaps. Even games with dynamic resolution or uncapped framerate will not change, cause the system will run in PS4 Pro Legacy Mode (the system will downclock to PS4 speeds)

Re: Sony Confirms Spider-Man PS5 Remaster Is Not a Free Upgrade

SilkySmile89

@Deadlyblack when they will launch a side by side we will get the promised puddles back. It will not be a big difference was allready a very good looking game. Other than more NPC, some ray tracing, faster load times ... For sure no global illumination. That's why they didn't release nothing. I think insomniac is just embarrassed. Sony just pushing them to release the PS5 version of the game they used to show the PS5 SSD speed in the press conference last year.

Re: Sony Confirms Spider-Man PS5 Remaster Is Not a Free Upgrade

SilkySmile89

This should have been an upgrade for the standard PS4 title and that's it. Even they could have charged a 10$ upgrade if the game is updated and people should have been happier ... But cut the BS you didn't invent the wheel again with the game, is the same game you made 2 years ago just using higher textures added effects and better models, you didn't make another Spider-Man game. I said it in another article that looks like this gen we will have again a lot of "remasteres". Why make PS4 BC in the first place if you want to monetize on all this games all over again. Thanks 👍 JIM ... Looking forward for Shadow Of the Colossus re-re-remaster ... NOT

Re: Rumour: Bloodborne Remaster Is Real, Coming to PS5 and PC

SilkySmile89

@pip_muzz they should at least be honest and say that they don't want to invest in "PS5 patches" for free. I would rather pay a 5-10$ price for a PS5 enhanced edition than paying a full price for a remaster of a game I allready own just because it looks "shinier" and has 5 trophies additionally.

Re: Rumour: Bloodborne Remaster Is Real, Coming to PS5 and PC

SilkySmile89

You want to remaster something ... How about Soul Reaver, MGS1, Syphon Filter, Silent Hill, Jak & Dexter, Resistance, Kill Zone, and the list goes on. You don't like to make PS5 BC compatible with previous iterations of PS ... That's fine, but bring back the IP that made those consoles GREAT !!

PS: pls don't make another Shadow of the Colossus remake ... That would be just ... Sad, 2 times is enough.

Re: Rumour: Bloodborne Remaster Is Real, Coming to PS5 and PC

SilkySmile89

Another clue that Jim Ryan should be changed immediately. What is the reason to make the console BC if the console is not even out yet and we allready have more remasters than new games coming out. What's next ?? GOW remaster, last of Us 1 and 2 ?? It's clear that Sony is losing more money on PS5 then they would like to admit. Their is no other reason for the price hike for games and all this remasters from PS4 games, wich should run better on PS5.

Re: Looks Like Assassin's Creed Valhalla Will Be 60FPS, 4K on PS5

SilkySmile89

@Nalverus when you see minimum/recommended specs, that is the sweet spot for devs to optimize their games, because most people are not running 2080/3080 ... When you play this games on those types of cards you are just brute forcing the GPU on them, optimization is minimum. The PC space is so segmented from different hardware to API(DirectX Vulkan Metal) is difficult for devs to optimize for all, that's why the returns for 3000$+ rig's it's not worth it. SSDs still underutilized on the PC space. Even if consoles are using the x86 architecture they still have limited instructions sets so actually you can't catalogue them like PCs. So even if the hardware on consoles is not bleeding edge you will get better visuals/performance from your money than anything "medium spec".

And FYI when you're running for a lower res with high FPS you will always be CPU BOUND.

Re: Microsoft Ponders More Video Game Company Acquisitions

SilkySmile89

Like others have mentioned before Sony's answer should be to grow more their studios. This strategy with timed deals is just a waste of money. Bring back older IP build new ones. Buy MGS IP from Konami and go from there. A smart move would be to buy square enix and bring back Legacy of Kain - Soul reaver.

Re: Looks Like Assassin's Creed Valhalla Will Be 60FPS, 4K on PS5

SilkySmile89

@Nalverus you're assumptions are wrong in most part. Do you have a navi2 card to have a basis on the midrange performance ? Second part, PC space lacks the optimization that consoles have for games. Even if you have the latest and grates they will never run at their full potential CPU and GPU alike. Consoles are made to do only one thing and only one spec(most part, last gen to consider for the moment), devs will optimize to use all cores all CU units as much as possible.

Re: Official PS5 Page Mentions 'Faster and Smoother Frame Rates' for Select PS4 Games

SilkySmile89

As pointed out earlier you will not see improvements on capped games (fps/resolution) untill they are patched, and that can mean more work for the game developers, maybe the engine can't handle just a uncap frame rate. Not to many games running uncapped frame rates, even pro enhanced versions. Remember that boost mode on PS4 Pro didn't make a big change for older games even with uncapped frame rates. I remember second son with uncapped fps on ps4 pro was terrible, the engine didn't handle that very well.

Re: Your Marvel's Spider-Man Saves Can't Be Carried Over to the PS5 Remaster

SilkySmile89

Really disappointed of what Jim Ryan is doing with Playstation. He really has no direction with anything. Everything what he told us untill now was BS especially about games. For sure they will ask for money for SM because it's a remaster not "PS5 enhanced" version of the game. I think also the updated price for games was a bad ideea at least now at launch; they should have waited to have more adopters. Wich also raises another question, are this prices for games coming to PS4 as well or only for PS5 ?? Sony need a wake up call. I was so excited for PS5 untill the last presentation. I would have preferred honestly for the console to be 600$ but games would still have a normal price and more free PS5 upgrades. But that's just me ☺️

Re: Future Bethesda Games Could Still Come to PlayStation Despite Xbox Ownership

SilkySmile89

For Microsoft to have any big success with GamePass and this new aquisition, all games beeing on day one on gamepass or not, Microsoft has to branch out with it's support for Xbox features. Most of you are from US or UK and have no idea that Microsoft has no support outside this contryies. Most EU contryies if you want to play online or buy games digitally you have to make a UK account. And you always risk of beeing banned. Playstation will soon have PSNow in more contryies where they have a very big install base.

Re: Sony Considered Xbox Series S-Style PS5, Doesn't Think Lower Spec Models Have Had Success

SilkySmile89

The issue with the next-gen of consoles is that we will not see the power of PS5 and XSX to soon, only 2-3 years in the cycle, as much as sony wants to kid itself you can't just end support for 110mil players. Think about the PS2 era. And already having diminishing returns on the graphics, you will not see any game changers, the industry is so mature allready. That's why most titles that will come out will still be on the PS4 and XBO. I have a org PS4 since launch and a Pro for 3 years, as much as I like the PS5 and the spec bump don't see a reason for the PS5 for the moment. Not a deamon soul's fan and MM will be available on PS4. And if GOW will come out next year, after 3 years of development I can tell you that it will be available on PS4 to, just bumped up for PS5, it's all about money. They want to sell more game copies.

Re: New PS5 Photos Show a Big and Weird Looking Console

SilkySmile89

@hoffa007 sound is caused by restrictions to air flow, the more things you put in front of your fan the more noise. Looks like that shouldn't be a issue. Depends also on the type of bearing used on the fan, how big it is. By the size of the PS5 they learned their lesson with small radial fans. Still think is a better approach then series x. That's way to dense and air is restricted due to the bottom (non removable from my understanding) stand, and counting only on negative pressure to cool you're system.

Re: New PS5 Photos Show a Big and Weird Looking Console

SilkySmile89

@hoffa007 it's to far away from any other ports to be a usb. Look's like the PCB is not so big. The top half part I think is only the cooling solution wich is good. I think they went with a traditional laptop style solution, heat pipes running to a radiator at the top and a big a$$ radial fan pushing the hot air out.

Re: New PS5 Photos Show a Big and Weird Looking Console

SilkySmile89

So bad lighting on this pictures. Most probably you need to remove the top cover to expand the storage. Hopefully we will have access to the fan for easy cleaning as PS4 Pro. On the phat side(bottom) looks like that will be the PSU position, sure they didn't put the nvme slot close to that ). Maybe there is a latch between the USB ports and the Kensington Lock(maybe?) On the left side, where you can access the nvme. We shall see, still waiting for Cerny's promise for a teardown.

Re: Talking Point: Did the PS5 Showcase Event Deliver?

SilkySmile89

Sony should fire their marketing team cause this was just stupid. Where is the incentive to buy a digital console when you hiked the prices for games at launch ??? Wait 2 years to have enough adopters and then you can ease everybody in on new prices. I get that all prices are going up, but salaries are still the same especially in the current situation of the world, a lot of people also lost their jobs, price of living increased, game consoles will be a luxury. Luckily it's BC with PS4, most people will revisit they're backlog until they will find some new games on sale or pre-owned.

Re: PS5's Retail Packaging Is Obscenely Attractive

SilkySmile89

This article just 🤯🤯🤯 ... It's a box ... You showed us a picture ... Of a box. Nice going Sony also for this achivment. You could have released for retailers a screenshot of a exploded view of PS5s internals, instead you gave them ... A box.

Re: Reaction: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Today's PS5 News

SilkySmile89

I was expecting a short teardown trailer or a explosion look at the internals ... Oh well. But the price for games is insane, I think most EU contryies have their VAT around 20% so that's why, but maybe not, because the PS Price for 499€ it's before tax. It looks like I will buy more digital games on my US account than using my european one.

Re: Fans Believe God of War 2 Could Be Part of PS5 Showcase Event

SilkySmile89

The last GoW was in development for 5 years. Let's say the transition from PS3 to PS4 was not that easy, and maybe development time can be reduced now from PS4 to PS5 but take in account also Corona Virus this year. Even if they started working on the sequel immediately after GoW I don't see this game realistically come out earlier than late 2022 ... At best. It's better they don't announce nothing and nobody will be disappointed. We don't need a 10sec logo trailer to know that the game is in development.

Re: Sony Using Air Freight to Meet PS5 Demand This Holiday

SilkySmile89

Look's like the production of PS5 will extend to late October if they will ship by air and they don't want to have shortages on launch. A container ship running from Chinese main land to US Pacific Coast runs around 18 to 21 days, depending on the chartered speed and consumption for the ship.

Re: PS5 Showcase Event Confirmed for This Wednesday

SilkySmile89

If you buy a digital edition it means you have a good internet connection and you can download games easily, and can live with a smaller SSD. Even you can use a ext HDD just for storage and when you want to play them just transfer on the SSD. IMO they could drop the storage to 512ish and drop the price even lower to 350$ and then it’s really competitive.

Re: PS5 Showcase Event Confirmed for This Wednesday

SilkySmile89

@Darylb88 the only way they can please every body is either increase storage on the 500$ or reduce on the 400$. But looks like 825 is set in stone for both consoles. Or who knows they didn’t say that explicitly. During Mark Cerny’s presentation, he said that the storage is 825. During the June announcement was nothing about storage.

Re: PS5 Showcase Event Confirmed for This Wednesday

SilkySmile89

@Darylb88 I think they will take a bigger loss on the DE so they will move more units. That’s all profit for them. Yes it’s an issue. Most people will think that you are paying a premium for the disc version but actually they are taking the loss on digital. The price between them will be controversial either way. If it’s just 50$ people would be better off just buying the disc version.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Confirmed for PS4, Coming January 2021

SilkySmile89

I can honestly agree with a lot of people here that the game is rough along the edges. It’s such a disappointment that Ubisoft doesn’t believe in this franchise any more. It’s nice that they are trying to promote bigger projects with small studios but this was just a letdown for all the fans out there. More like a HD remaster than remake, gameplay wise all is the same. Pretty strange that they showed alpha footage and the game is set to release in 4 months. I think it will be rushed and a disappointment at launch. Anybody remembers Unity :-? We shall see.

Re: Reaction: Why Hasn't PS5's Price and Release Date Been Revealed Yet?

SilkySmile89

@__jamiie The best answer I think for the series s from Sony would be to drop the price to 299 for the PS4 Pro still has a lot of life in it, can run 4K even has a Blu-ray. The 120fps is useless because most people don’t have a fully capable hdmi 2.1 tv anyway. And all that VRR ULL and 120fps that’s just the hdmi 2.1 spec. IT WILL NOT RUN AAA games at 120fps, bomber-man or Tetris maybe. People should not get fooled by the “Market Magic”
