Missed a great opportunity here, Push Square - you really should’ve just recycled the earlier article(s) about the subject, with an update «it may be happening this time!» at the top every year.
I like to keep (and show off) my boxes, but found the boxes of PS4 and PSVR to be very flimsy. That picture has me worried as well, as the lower ones seems damaged already. Hope it’s just the shadows playing tricks.
It’s great, and I understand why this page defends it. In fact, it would be best if all we did was monitored by, say, the government, so that no-one did or said anything bad...
Don’t trust 2K Games at all, but if that is what the character models look like in-game (not during cut scenes or trailers), then it’s rather impressive!
«The real danger for PlayStation is that it could very quickly find itself muscled out of an industry it’s dominated for decades. Sony simply doesn’t have the same kind of capital as its competitors, and while it’s made smart acquisitions in the past, its primary efforts have revolved around organically growing its own intellectual property and homegrown production pipeline.»
Rewriting history much? There was nothing organic about how Sony, one of the world's largest manufacturers of electronic products, entered the world of video games, 20 years after the business started. Ask Sega and Nintendo if they felt any muscle.
When it comes to exclusives, I’m surprised that Microsoft haven’t bought more developers over the past 20 years, considering exclusives is what Sony and Nintendo have over them.
That being said, I belive Sony and Microsoft are digging a grave for the console market. All the games you can’t play on Playstation 5, you can play on Xbox Series X and PC, and appearantly Sony is also going to release more of their games on PC. So, how can you get all the exclusives? Buy both consoles (and all the subscriptions etc.) or buy a PC.
@TheNewButler It’s been a few years since I had a good to great setup, but I’ve always had a machine up and going so I could play strategy games. My current computer is rather old, though, so I’ll have to upgrade soon. For the last decade or so I’ve usually played the non-strategy games on consoles, and since I wasn’t playing the heavy hitters on pc, I could get away with buying lower end computers. And there’s always been alot of console exclusive games that weren’t available on pc before. With me needing to upgrade my pc anyway, both Sony and Microsoft releasing their games exclusively on their own console as well as on pc, and with many of my friends being pc gamers (cross play has been a savior for me in that regard), the thinking is I might as well skip both consoles and build myself a high end computer like they have.
@FullMetalWesker The PS4 also had Knack (for better or worse), Resogun as well as several cross platform games.
For me, the major difference between this launch and those were the gaps in technology between the new and the prior console. The PS3 was a giant leap from the PS2, and the PS4 was a major leap from the PS3, which meant that cross generation games like Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield and Call of Duty were almost completely different experiences on the PS4 and PS3. While the PS5 clearly is an improvement over the PS4, to me it seems more like a PS4 Pro with slightly better graphics and faster load times, rather than a completely new console generation. Will the upgrade be noticably, no doubt, but not in the same way as the leap from PS2 to PS3 or PS3 to PS4.
There’s a massive difference between how «The House of Mario» handled the period leading up to the launch of the Nintendo Switch, and what Microsoft and Sony are currently doing. Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch reveal event months ahead, and then revealed the release date, the price, the launch games etc. at the event itself, maintaining momentum. Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft have held this going on for months now, holding events themselves, and yet we still know next to nothing. I don’t understand this marketing strategy at all, and have no need to buy any of them at launch.
If this keeps up, I see no need for buying a PS5, might as well buy a computer, and get all my Xbox, PlayStation and PC games there with even better graphics. Most people I know play on PC anyway, and games are cheaper.
@Subsided Well, sure the PS5 is more powerful than the PS4, but the way I see it, R&C is the biggest launch window game at the moment. If I was Sony, I’d love for that title to be announced with specs that the current generation can’t or would struggle to achieve.
I’m a bit surprised by this. To put this in perspective, are there any games on the PS4 Pro that play games in 4K* and 60FPS (I’m guessing no, but perhaps)? I’m assuming there are alot of games that run at 60FPS with 1080P and 30FPS with 4K?
It was rather poor. I was intrigued by Star Wars: Squadron(s?), and thought Little Nightmares II looked interesting (but I also thought that about the first game until the reviews dropped). But now I’m a bit worried about one of the few PS5 games I’ve been interested in, Ratchet & Clank. While technical impressive, won’t the gameplay mechanic get rather confusing and tedious after a short time?
I hope that some day EA and others will release «Madden for PS5», «FIFA for PS5» etc., perhaps for a higher price than ordinary, but with the promise that there won’t be a «new» game every year. Updates could be sold as season passes. If that was the case, I’d probably buy some or more sports games, but as it is, I haven’t bought anything since the PS3 era. Coming from a huge football fan.
I’ll never understand this: The trailer is 4:08 long, and shows 0:00 gameplay footage. What’s the point of this? At this point, the next Halo game is one of the best looking next gen games just based on the fact that it’s one of the few upcoming games with actual gameplay footage.
I’d prefer it if Square just released their classic games in the original form (with no iPhone graphics like they did with the first DQ games or whatever they did with the sprites and not the background in FFVII etc.), and instead made completely new games in the series. I wonder how many the Mana collection sold.
Will probably pick up a couple more during Black Friday. I always regret not having enough new controllers laying around everytime we move on to the next generation.

Re: More PS5 Stock This Year, As Sony Enjoys Biggest Ever Launch
I’m curious of the numbers, as so far it’s just PR talk. The number of consoles the major stores here mention getting from Sony are rather low.

@naruball Those specific ones are the one getting noticed. If Johnny Rootbear on Whatever FC complained, we’d never know.

For Demon’s Souls, they should’ve just had the title on a completely black background. This one is far too 90’s for me.

I’ll wait a year or two and see where it’s at. If Sony starts releasing more of their games on PC, I’ll probably just buy a gaming pc instead.
Re: All PS5 Launch Games
Yeah, I’m not paying $480 for the chance to play a playroom game (techdemo?) and a remake of Demon’s Souls. Guess I’ll wait a year or two.

Re: Reaction: The Spotlight Is Now on PS5's Launch Lineup
