Re: Reaction: The Problem with PlayStation Right Now

Sinton

The problems started with the launch of the PS5. It came too soon, with too few units available, and they kept releasing the same games for the PS4, making it all a disaster. They're finally coming around to making good games on the console (I'm sure 90 percent of the 50 best rated games on this site are less than 15 months old) - if they release a Pro version now, things could turn bad.

Re: Talking Point: Is Free-to-Play the Future for Sports Games?

After buying Fifa 5-6 years in a row, I completely stopped half a decade ago. Played Fifa 21 against a relative this summer, having not played since around Fifa 16, and still I won, because nothing's changed.

In my opinion, EA should've released one base game (at a higher price) every five years or so, with seasonal updates released as (cheaper) DLC. That way they could've improved the game mechanics, instead of throwing out good mechanics, inventing new ones, only to introduce the old ones as «new» four years later. And they would've brought players like me back - having the base game, I wouldn't mind paying for a cheaper seasonal update every year or every two years.

Re: Battlefield 2042 Goes Near Future on PS5 and PS4, Out in October

I think this looks awful. It’s been a while since I played Battlefield, but I thought one of the strong points of the series was that it is somewhat more realistic than the rest? Let’s just dive between parachuters with my wing suit, jump out of my billion dollar fighter jet to shoot another plane with a rocket launcher, and let loose my robotic dog cannon.

And, while no bearing on gameplay, why are all the soldiers in the trailer so «passive» looking? How light are the guns and equipment in 2042? When you go down a corridor with guns ready, you are really focused and keep your gun steady, ready to down the enemy - you don’t stroll along like you’re on your way to the beach for some serious relaxing (see 1:10 onwards, for instance). Most soldiers just looking around waiting for the enemy chopter to get the guns ready.

Re: PS5 Has Already Outsold PS Vita, Nintendo Wii U, and SEGA Dreamcast in the UK

@uptownsoul I’m not saying this is not worth reporting, and I haven’t fired up the good ol’ Google engine, but did every major gaming site report when the Switch surpassed the Wii U’s sales number in the UK?? Even if (as other have mentioned in this comment section) Nintendo have done well with handhelds, Nintendo usually have done poorly in the UK when it comes to home consoles (compared to their other markets).

I would like to know how the worldwide sales of the PS5 compares to other recent succesful consoles in the same time frame (the PS4 and Switch comes to mind), but with covid, scalping and shortage it’s hard to tell what the numbers actually mean.

@naruball @God_of_Nowt Regarding Nintendo: The Wii did well everywhere because it wasn’t a conventional game console. I wasn’t considering handhelds (or the Switch, which we all know is its own phenomenon), but at least it’s no surprise to me that Sony’s newest flagship console outsold Nintendo’s worst home console, and I’m pretty sure it will soon surpass the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube as well.

As far as I can tell, SEGA always did well in the UK. But I’m having trouble understanding the Dreamcast numbers if what you say, God_of_Nowt, is true - how could it do so well in the UK, and yet PS5 have already outsold it with limited stock? If the Gamecube or Nintendo 64 sold more in the UK than the Dreamcast, I would say it did poorly.

(75 percent of every console activated are terrible numbers in my opinion for a new product that «everybody» wants, though my comment in that regard was more aimed at the hopeless situation with scalpers - I’m sure all stock would’ve been sold out regardless.)

But how many are in the hands of scalpers and how many are actually opened and in use?

That Wii U did poorly in UK is no surprise, as Nintendo have never done well there, but I’m surprised that the Vita has been outsold already. That being said, I’ve been on the lookout for a Vita in stores in Scandinavia for 5+ years and have never seen one, so perhaps the situation is the same in the UK.

Was SEGA already done in the UK when the Dreamcast launched?
