@zekepliskin My PS5 is actually louder than my PS4 slim so unfortunately I can't share that joy 😂 I agree with everything there, the actual internal hardware is really good. Especially the SSD. I think the DualSense is really good though. Probably my favourite controller ever. Haptic feedback is ok, but the adaptive triggers are amazing in shooters and racing games. But even without those features I think it's still a very nice controller, has a weight and premium feel too it, sturdy build. As much as the console itself feels a bit cheap, the controllers feel premium which is good as that's the part you'll actually be touching, don't often have to touch the console. I also appreciate the in-built mic as I've only just bought a headset with a mic after owning the console for 3 years lol. The speaker is crap though I turn that feature off
@zekepliskin Tbf it stands vertically on its own now no issue, and I kind of like the horizontal stand because it's a bit more minimal but yeah I agree that the design is kind of dumb. The back of the console no longer has the little recess the stand clips into. I quite like the overall design of both PS5s and how they allow for customisation, fan cleaning/changing, and M.2 SSDs, but it could definitely have been done in a more refined way. It's also so very out of line with every other product sony makes. Their TVs, Headphones, Hifi equipment, Camera's, even their phones are designed very minimal but premium, usually in black or other understated colours. Even previous PlayStation's generally follow similar design language, but the PS5 is so left-field
@zekepliskin I think it's more a case of why buy a PS5 when the PS5 slim is only a few weeks away, so people held off. There is always an assumption that newer=better. And the majority of people aren't going to research it
@__jamiie yes switch is beating PS5 6:1 in Japan. Not really an issue. The Japanese have a massive preference for mobile and portable gaming, and switch is doing really well globally in general. Switch is then beating Xbox 60:1. And considering the Xbox Series has sold 3x the amount of Xbox one's already, only 3 years in, is actually very significant. But if you want to be rude about it, don't bother replying please. I was only making discussion, not arguing.
@PixelDragon depends. Just because they're selling badly respectively doesn't mean they're not making profit, and doesn't mean they have to quit hardware. I'm pretty sure they're doing better with the series than they were with the xbone.
Edit: just read that article saying Series is -11% down compared to xbone launch... Nevermind..
@djlard your comment is not only inconsistent but also untrue. The PS3 launched with backwards compatibility, its relatively poor sales were caused by its high price without much to offer. It was only when backwards compatibility was dropped and the consoles were cheaper that they recovered to finish slightly ahead of Xbox. PS4 is also the second most successful PlayStation ever, despite no backwards compatibility. I don't disagree that it was important for PS5s launch to have BC but I think that's mostly due to people skipping the pro and wanting to play the upgraded PS4 games on PS5. But without it, it would've sold just as well.
@TheCollector316 I wonder what the future looks like with the law of diminishing returns. Not much point aiming for more than 4k@60fps, SSDs get faster but will only save a few seconds loading. Other factors will become so much more important in the future. My biggest wish would be ending game installs, basically reinventing the cartridge so we can have instant physical games again. I wouldn't be bothered if disc drives were just a usb plug-in accessory for backwards compatibility
@rusty82 Xbox may have more TFLOPS, but otherwise its hardware is not that powerful. Split ram and a slow SSD let it down, and it doesn't have Sony's IO magic (seriously how does that work) meaning many games run slightly better on PS5 - such as Elden Ring. Even so the difference is only a couple FPS, both when a game runs better on PS5 or XSX.
I've always had slims and they've always been brilliant. Bought PS5 at launch for the first time and it's had a few issues. Think I might get one on sale if I can. Might wait for the slim in the ps6 gen
@CrispyMango92 I feel that. Sometimes I put it in rest for downloads or been using remote play, and I forget about it for a week (it's in a spare room so I don't see it all the time)
The only thing disappointing me is that the price cuts haven't been passed to the consumer. At least reduce the price back down to £450/£350 launch price.
I might still get one if coil whine is fixed though.
I just completed mafia remastered and been waiting on a mafia 2 definitive sale so this couldn't be better timing. I already bought fireteam elite but it's a pretty fun game if you play with a friend.
So overall probably the best selection in a long time!
@Fiendish-Beaver Lol at the assumption I know nothing about PCs. I have spec'd and built PCs for a lot of people. You can definitely do it for £1200, as that's usually the spec people want, it's the spec I've done the most.
@Fiendish-Beaver £2000? Not at all. £1000-1200 will easily match the PS5, or even surpassed it at 1080p. And you don't have to match that spec at all. And what does Sony releasing games on PC have anything at all to do with Xbox?? I don't see any connection there. It simply makes Sony more money.
@Deityjester yes they do, the people didn't care for days gone because it was mid, not enough people bought it, and the sequel got cancelled. People didn't buy the vita. It died. People didn't buy move. It died. People didn't buy PSTV. It died. Just because it doesn't align with your personal taste does not mean it is not the case.
@Fiendish-Beaver so "ONLY console to play" becomes "ONLY high-end console to play" I see. It's a damn shame they don't see Nintendo as competition, because they certainly are. It's like saying hey BMW and Mercedes shouldn't worry about Toyota because BMW/Mercedes is a different league to Toyota. Yet Toyota will outsell them either way. And if Nintendo can go and do their own thing with zero competition, then why can't playstation. Funny you give Last of Us and God of War as examples as Playstation is the only console you can play those games on already.. oh and they're on PC too. You literally said yourself if people couldn't afford playstation they'd play Nintendo if it's all they could afford. You explained yourself why playstation wouldn't price their consoles/games to astronomical prices, because nobody would buy them, and they'd just choose to miss out on the "high quality titles". Then guess what.. Sony loses loads of money. I know why they've increased prices to £70, because games development costs more than ever before. Services go up because prices of everything everywhere are going up. Of course playstation could do as they please if they were on their own. But people vote with their wallet, and they'd still have to be in the realm of affordability to still exist.
This is without even going into the rise of the steam deck. There's no reason why Valve wouldn't try to launch a Linux based home console. Developers are even optimising games for steam deck now. No one cared about SteamMachines because they were just crap pre-builds. If they made one box of hardware for home console gaming, run on SteamOS, it could quickly become the new Xbox.
@nomither6 oh yeah for sure, I agree with you on that. I had x360 for about 10-11 years. Halo 3 and FM4 made it worth it. Dad eventually got a PS3 and I enjoyed all the Naughty Dog games. PS3 felt more grown-up, x360 seemed directly targeted at teenagers lol. If you didn't own both consoles you were definitely missing out on something
@nomither6 well yeah PSN wasn't worth charging money for, that's why they didn't. You also had to buy a WiFi dongle for the OG Xbox 360, so £50 for that on top of paying for Xbox live just to play games online was a bit ridiculous, especially when it was free on PS3 and PC. Not justifying the hacking, just saying both had less than desirable online.
And I don't really believe X360 facilitated the changeable harddrive, considering the PS1 and PS2, GameCube, etc were using memory cards.. I understand the convenience aspect but I'll always prefer the slightly more inconvenient option that isn't proprietary, to the simple proprietary option. I also find it ironic how angry everyone was at PS for proprietary Vita storage just no one ever cared about X360 harddrive, or the Series SSD expansion
@Fiendish-Beaver I don't think a game like Starfield would even survive without PC, and good old Redfall is garbage, so I think you're right in saying that ship has sailed. I don't think what they need is acquisitions but rather to actually screw their head on and make some half decent games.
@Americansamurai1 that's true. I was in middle school at that time lol, so all I knew was PS3 was too expensive. But eventually with the slim/super slim it was cheap enough for my dad to get one for himself and I ended up liking it a bit more than my 360
It's honestly very surprising considering how similar the hardware is and how they both have exclusives. I don't think it's really to do with cloud or PC as the number of casual console players outnumbers PC players by a lot, and still yet to find anyone who cares about cloud gaming.
With the absolute monumental amount of effort it takes to make car models these days, I'd say 7 of them is certainly a newsworthy update. They're not just recycling models as per certain other racing franchises. Very excited for the LFA, hope the sound design is good, that car certainly deserves it
@Haruki_NLI Disc Drives have circuit boards on them already, and the detachable drive will definitely have some kind of proprietary connection. The drive definitely won't connect to the internet itself. My assumption would be it scans for a code on the PCB and checks it against a database, but that could totally be done offline. It says "upon set-up" which adds a lot of confusion to how it would actually work. Do we have to register the disc drive or something? Who knows
On the one hand, the removal drive makes the actual drive much easier to repair if it's a failure of a gear or motor, but on the other hand there is now no way to play a PS5 fully offline. Of course fully offline gaming is very difficult these days, but why do we have to use the official disc drive? Piracy, malware, or something? There's probably a logical reason but it seems dumb.
@Tr3mm0r that's probably a good thing, ps4 slim was a lot better imo. I kind of wish I waited for ps5 slim though, few issues on my ps5 that hopefully the slim solves
@BusyOlf Subscriptions for music makes a lot of sense. It's gets very expensive very fast. @rjejr oh ok interesting. I just assumed 40fps was a happy medium between 30-60fps. Didn't really know it had much to do with 120hz. I feel like to someone like me I wouldn't even notice the difference. 120hz in big TVs is still quite rare though isn't it? Unless the TV world has changed a lot in 3 years
@SegaBlueSky Huh? The platform where the X only comes in black, and the S in black or white? VS PS5s now 9 different colours? They have some cool controllers but when it comes to the consoles, there's nothing
Feels very PS2. In the best possible way. Was going to just get the black plates to have a stealthy PS5 but the silver looks great. The blue I want to see in person first

@zekepliskin depends on the game, certain shooters do but not every game.
Nah it's been loud since day one. There are louder fans (multiple suppliers) and I have that with very loud coil whine as well

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives
@__jamiie oh right, yeah. Switch is miles ahead. 31.7 Million VS 15 million.
But if I can be pedantic, Xbox one/series combined is 660k in Japan. So Switch to PS is 2:1, PS to Xbox is ahem 30:1 (or something like that)
Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives
@__jamiie Switch = 132.5 million, PS4= 117 million, PS5 = 46.5 million. So switch 132.5 million VS PS4/5= 163.5 million.
Plus, I think half of us PS players have a switch as well so, who cares
