Re: PlayStation Users Set to Lose Hundreds of TV Shows They Paid For

SlipperyFish

Tbh I've only bought 5 physical games for PS5, all collectors editions. Discs just aren't very good for games anymore. Disc drives are big, a bit noisy, can break, discs can't spin/be read fast enough for modern games, can get scratched, take up space, in 50 years time we might all find these discs have disc rot...

But, I do buy a lot of physical on switch. The cartridges are small enough to put them all in one carrying case. Don't make any noise, no moving parts so aren't easily damaged and the readers are very unlikely to break. Games can actually be read off the cards too without installing.

I hope in the future we could have physical games for PS and Xbox on some kind of flash memory drive. I imagine the costs would be high but it's the only way physical media could sell more I think. Sony did it with the vita at least.

Just have a usb disc drive for backwards compatibility.

Re: Microsoft Still Wants to Put Xbox Game Pass on PS5, PS4

SlipperyFish

@BamBamBaklava89 yeah exactly what I was thinking, why aren't Xbox games coming to PS at all? Not even TES6? Sony would take their 30% and MS get the 70%. And surely selling at full price ($70) would be more profitable than Game Pass? I can't make any sense of this at all. Sounds like stupid PR nonsense

Re: Black Friday Deal: PS5 Slim Pre-Orders Discounted in the UK For Today Only

SlipperyFish

@Flaming_Kaiser PS5 makes almost zero when XSX makes actually zero. Also mine makes quite a bit of noise, loud fan and coil whine. It's been like that since new and I know I'm not alone as I've spoken to many others about it.

Yeah it's definitely not always performing better than the PS5 but I've heard devs prioritize PS5 and patch XSX later.

The Cyberpunk 2077 "complete" edition is the first I've seen where they've not bothered including DLC on disc, other than that they're the same

Re: Black Friday Deal: PS5 Slim Pre-Orders Discounted in the UK For Today Only

@tselliot the vast majority of gamers, casual ones at least, don't have a beefy PC so Xbox still has it's place in the gaming market I think.
From my personal perspective I'm waiting to see what happens with Stalker 2 to decide whether to get a Series S. So maybe it's just their lack of first party titles. I've also heard third party devs prioritize PS5 at launch but I can't confirm that. Feels like the PS2 days where PS first party and third party support was so strong they destroyed competition despite being the weakest console

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives

SlipperyFish

@zekepliskin My PS5 is actually louder than my PS4 slim so unfortunately I can't share that joy 😂
I agree with everything there, the actual internal hardware is really good. Especially the SSD.
I think the DualSense is really good though. Probably my favourite controller ever. Haptic feedback is ok, but the adaptive triggers are amazing in shooters and racing games. But even without those features I think it's still a very nice controller, has a weight and premium feel too it, sturdy build. As much as the console itself feels a bit cheap, the controllers feel premium which is good as that's the part you'll actually be touching, don't often have to touch the console.
I also appreciate the in-built mic as I've only just bought a headset with a mic after owning the console for 3 years lol. The speaker is crap though I turn that feature off

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives

SlipperyFish

@zekepliskin Tbf it stands vertically on its own now no issue, and I kind of like the horizontal stand because it's a bit more minimal but yeah I agree that the design is kind of dumb. The back of the console no longer has the little recess the stand clips into.
I quite like the overall design of both PS5s and how they allow for customisation, fan cleaning/changing, and M.2 SSDs, but it could definitely have been done in a more refined way.
It's also so very out of line with every other product sony makes. Their TVs, Headphones, Hifi equipment, Camera's, even their phones are designed very minimal but premium, usually in black or other understated colours. Even previous PlayStation's generally follow similar design language, but the PS5 is so left-field

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives

SlipperyFish

@__jamiie yes switch is beating PS5 6:1 in Japan. Not really an issue. The Japanese have a massive preference for mobile and portable gaming, and switch is doing really well globally in general. Switch is then beating Xbox 60:1.
And considering the Xbox Series has sold 3x the amount of Xbox one's already, only 3 years in, is actually very significant. But if you want to be rude about it, don't bother replying please. I was only making discussion, not arguing.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Rockets to the Top as 'Slim' Model Arrives

SlipperyFish

@PixelDragon depends. Just because they're selling badly respectively doesn't mean they're not making profit, and doesn't mean they have to quit hardware. I'm pretty sure they're doing better with the series than they were with the xbone.

Edit: just read that article saying Series is -11% down compared to xbone launch... Nevermind..

Re: Sony Takes Control of UK as PS5 Climbs to 51% Market Share

SlipperyFish

@djlard your comment is not only inconsistent but also untrue. The PS3 launched with backwards compatibility, its relatively poor sales were caused by its high price without much to offer. It was only when backwards compatibility was dropped and the consoles were cheaper that they recovered to finish slightly ahead of Xbox.
PS4 is also the second most successful PlayStation ever, despite no backwards compatibility.
I don't disagree that it was important for PS5s launch to have BC but I think that's mostly due to people skipping the pro and wanting to play the upgraded PS4 games on PS5. But without it, it would've sold just as well.

Re: Sony Takes Control of UK as PS5 Climbs to 51% Market Share

SlipperyFish

@TheCollector316 I wonder what the future looks like with the law of diminishing returns. Not much point aiming for more than 4k@60fps, SSDs get faster but will only save a few seconds loading. Other factors will become so much more important in the future.
My biggest wish would be ending game installs, basically reinventing the cartridge so we can have instant physical games again. I wouldn't be bothered if disc drives were just a usb plug-in accessory for backwards compatibility

Re: Sony Takes Control of UK as PS5 Climbs to 51% Market Share

SlipperyFish

@rusty82 Xbox may have more TFLOPS, but otherwise its hardware is not that powerful. Split ram and a slow SSD let it down, and it doesn't have Sony's IO magic (seriously how does that work) meaning many games run slightly better on PS5 - such as Elden Ring. Even so the difference is only a couple FPS, both when a game runs better on PS5 or XSX.

Re: It Sounds Like PS5 Is Handily Outselling Its New-Gen Rival in France

SlipperyFish

@Deityjester yes they do, the people didn't care for days gone because it was mid, not enough people bought it, and the sequel got cancelled. People didn't buy the vita. It died. People didn't buy move. It died. People didn't buy PSTV. It died.
Just because it doesn't align with your personal taste does not mean it is not the case.
