Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?

SlipperyFish

@BeerMonster since it's digital out the box, its £389 to £700. Although I agree with you, cost of production has gone up, and going off PS4 pro sales, this is going to be fairly low in production numbers and so economies of scale and all that.

Until we have another Pascal Architecture type of technological breakthrough, I can't see prices coming down significantly anytime soon

Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?

@__jamiie I tried researching what you're saying but can't find what youre saying. I can see Gears 5 runs at 120fps @ 1440p but nothing to do with upscaling or anything.
If you're on about game boost, well the base PS5 also has that and it's a seperate thing to PSSR

Re: PS5 Pro Reveal Is Already Sony's Most Disliked Console Announcement

SlipperyFish

@jrt87 CNET have stated they games they've tested are running 4k@60fps, GT7 even running at 8k (for whoever wants that), and Sony have been asking devs to hit 4k@60fps on the pro. Sony have stated it as their goal. As for "all games", ultimately if the developer chooses to release unoptimised games, that's on them. Everything will still have to target 30fps on PS5 regardless, and PSSR will fill in gaps in resolution if devs don't hit 4k. It's not like the pro is replacing the base PS5 anyway, where people are still choosing 60fps modes and so the pressure is on devs to make that happen

Re: Prospective PS5 Pro Buyers Cause Surge in Disc Drive Sales

SlipperyFish

@Jimmer-jammer agreed, Sony's approach to modular disc drives is incredibly intelligent. No one else is offering the chance to modify your console at a later date. If you buy the xsx discless that's coming up, and you suddenly want discs, you've got to buy a whole new console and a 1tb stick to make up the difference

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox Delay Isn't Due to Platform Limitations, Says Microsoft

@S1ayeR74 Maybe £20 at most? It's also "split" 8GB/2GB, 2GB being reserved for the OS, so games pretty much only have 8GB RAM to run off. The Series X uses a weird 10GB/6GB "split" where they run different bandwidths as well. VS PS5 using 16GB RAM all the same bandwith +512MB SSD Cache. By split, I don't mean the ram is physically split like PS3 or older consoles, but it's still one unit.
I suppose PlayStation have really learned from the PS3 days to make their hardware simpler which makes for better optimization. I wish PS5 went for more GPU cores at a lower clock speed though but you can't have it all I guess.

But yeah sorry, from what I've read, the 10GB RAM on Series S has been the source of a lot of the problems developing for it. People had problems with Borderlands 3 crashing on Series S with a "run out of memory" error screen.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Needs to Take a Long, Hard Look at Itself

SlipperyFish

This might be one of the worst articles I've ever read on this site. Completely emotionally driven and completely backtracks on all the defending of this title. Also full of assumptions on who did what and what's going to happen with the studios and future titles.

Sony have done the correct thing in refunding everyone who bought it. Most publishers wouldn't bother.

What sensationalist crap

Re: Failing Manufacturers Are Pushing the Narrative That Consoles Are Dying, Says Ex-Xbox Exec

@gollumb82 I try and help my friends build their PCs and I always advise investing in really good cases, cooling, and PSUs. Of course they don't listen and only a few months go by until they have loads of issues and everything needs upgrading. It's so, so much easier to upgrade RAM, GPU, or SSDs than to rewire your entire cooling system, repaste the cpu, replace PSU etc 😂.

Windows indeed sucks. SteamOS I think is pretty good, I'd love to see valve have a second go at the Steam Machine thing. The Asus looks like a much better handheld but the Windows puts me off, I'll have to look at SteamOS on it

Re: Failing Manufacturers Are Pushing the Narrative That Consoles Are Dying, Says Ex-Xbox Exec

SlipperyFish

I mean, look at the steam deck, asus ally, etc. Sure they're PCs in software but they're really consoles in hardware.
The steam machine flopped in 2014 but maybe it was just ahead of it's time. I think it would be a lot more successful now after the Steam deck's success.
I used to play on PC, but now I'm console only and even looking to get rid of PC all together as there's not much my mobile phone can't do at home (obviously a much different story if you do work on a PC)

If anything, I think consoles have room to grow. It's just $500 consoles in this economy are simply not going to do as well as consoles which were half the price

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

SlipperyFish

@Northern_munkey you say it sucks to have digital only consoles, but I have the disc PS5 and only have a couple discs. Reason being is that the sales on the digital store are usually much larger than they are for discs, or at least I'm notified of sales on my wishlist instead of having to check on game stores often

I've only paid full price for a PS5 game once and that's because it was a console bundle and the only option to get a PS5 at the time. But that was demon souls so I'd say that one was almost worth it

Re: Dramatic Conflicts as Sony Accused of Signing Secret PS5 Exclusivity with Black Myth: Wukong

SlipperyFish

@Vaako007 I don't think you're wrong, console is definitely better optimised than PC, but a whole 6GB less ram is quite a lot. As you say, smoothness is important, but they might be struggling to get 1080p@30fps smoothly.

Hellblade 2 is another game that has a minimum of 16GB ram, also minimum GPU of a gtx1070, and that game runs at a staggering 1536x643 resolution on Series S. Albeit at a smooth 30fps but that's a first party team that will have the best optimisation possible
