@UrbanPlaystation 😄 well, dude, we found us a great reason to return to this comment section in 6 months 😂 let's see together. You could be right, I could be right. Let's just hope the game doesn't end up on ps plus by then 😉
@RaZieLDaNtE hey dude, I appreciate your comment and time. You will be happy to know that I bought Hades on its release (release release, not early access) for exactly the reasons you mentioned and that has been the only rogue-like/lite I like. If Returnal turns out ot have such a strong story, characters and non repeating script, I will be buying it sooner rather than later. If not, then the arcade splendor can wait for black friday sales. Cheers and stay safe and healthy.
@UrbanPlaystation Deamon Souls PS5? Dude, it still has not been six months since it released, but also not every six month period is the same. When Returnal blows that 6 months candles on its birthday cake, we will be damn near black friday period. It will sell for 35 then no doubt about it. Of course, this will also depend on how well it continues to sell post release. If, by some miracle, it has steady sales throughout 6 months, they will have no reason to reduce the price. But see what happened to TLOUp2. It sold like gang busters on release and then shrivelled to nothing real quick. Six months after release it was easy to get it 50% off, and 9 months after release it was in the dumpster sales. And that was Sony's biggest exclusive last year. You think Returnal will maintain its price for longer while being a game in the rogue-lite genre? Nah, dude, it's gonna go down like a Vegas **.
@Jester1701one in six months it will be 50% off. It is very easy to know when to go for a purchase these days with PC digital storefronts (Steam, Origin, Epic), and those for PS and XB.
If a game is your bread and butter and you can afford the price tag, preorder.
If you can wait but are not really frugal, you should be able to jump in 3 months after release for that 25% off.
If you really can wait and want to spend as little money as possible but still play the game while it is still in the zeitgeist, 6 months and 50% off is your friend.
If you REALLY don't care when you are going to get your hands on the game, wait until it inevitably goes down to dirt cheap (e.g. 10 or 15 monetary units).
Other than that, don't buy current gen console until it is close to their end of life (e.g. a year or two before the next one is released) get them dirt cheap and get all those exclusives for next to nothing.
EDIT: exclusion to the rule - always, always be pre-ordering Nintendo 1st party exclusives with shops that offer some discount. You will never be able to get them cheaper 😂 (as in, new, not pre-owned).
@Intr1n5ic people undervaluing other's work? This cannot be! Well, dude, welcome to planet Earth at the beginning of the 21st century. Be sure to remember to value the infinite hours put by others for you to have that water right in your kitchen. Who cares, dude? They make a product, we buy it if we feel like we want/need it. Valuing someone's work is for employers not for customers.
@Mad-Vampire £70 is roughly $97. The same applies for the game's price in EU, €80 which is almost $97. The $70 price tag for US customers is also not really true in most of the states as this is price before tax (which is included in the stated prices for £ and € markets). After tax, you are looking at, roughly 10% price increase, so, say $77 which is still nowhere near that highway robbery of $97 that the European (geographical category not political) customers are di** slapped with.
@vapidwolf thanks dude, but I have issues man, you know, pent up aggression and stuff. I can't risk breaking the dualsense, not at this stage 😂 Seriously though, my problem is not repetition, hell, I love repetition, my issue is losing weapons, equipment and capability and having to grind all over for it just to die again soon after getting it all back. Rrrrghhhh no. 😅
@Kidfried yes, to each their own, I am just not convinced that Returnal will turn people like me. I may be wrong. And yes, I also did not buy day1 a number of open world games fir that same reason of wasting my time.
@tatsumi from the hands on "A rogue-lite structure means that you lose most of the stuff you gather upon death, but most runs result in some form of reward". Rogue-like, rogue-lite... it's all the same rogue-s**te to me. I don't have that much time for games and when I can dedicate some time to play I like my games to respect it.
@Voltan I love Hausmarque and the game looks and sounds amazing, but my hate of roguelikes is much stronger. Nothing is going to change that. You think gamers like me will want to pay $70/£70/€80 to play a wonderfully looking and sounding game and have that miserable feeling of having to restart our progress whenever our in-game character dies? No, dude. This is exactly what we hate and no amount of visual, aural or game mechanic splendor will change that. Not touching a roguelike with a 10-foot pole. I mean, yeah, sure, I'll try it, once it becomes ultra-cheap or comes to ps+ or psnow... and then rage uninstall it. 😂
@PhantomMenace84 yes, and as a business, the publisher (not developers) has determined that they will maximize their profit margins by giving up on bigger sales numbers in favor of higher pricing. How can this be? How are they sure this strategy will play out well? How are they sure they will sell enough to the player base to cover for lost sales? Easy. They are not. What they do rely on though is that they will sell at higher price point to all that can't resist or don't care. They will get the next bunch later when they slightly reduce the price and then everyone else when they go 50% down. Good for them. I choose to be in the "everyone else" group this time around (bought their last game day1).
@Jaz007 you are not alone. The price will hurt the sales of this game (unfortunately). I love Housemarque's games and have played them extensively since PS3. I will not buy Returnal at full price. I can happily wait 6 months and buy it at 50% off.
It would be awesome if they included wireless firmware updates of the dualsense controller in some of the future ps5 updates. This is one of the little things that MS has done right with their controller updates on XBSX. No need to connect to a usb cable.
@get2sammyb if you are really that stuck in ps3 era that your heart breaks if your psplus lapses and you have no option to blow your money on two games.... then the solution is to use that money on a month of ps now when the heartache becomes too hard to live with. If the games are not there, be it.
And if you are in the population that only now plays on ps3 (say, because of your financial situation, country you live in etc.) you for sure are not sinking your hard earned dollar on anything ps plus or psn store - you are buying your games on discs (or you have a modded ps3 and are playing pirated games). It's even worse on Vita in terms of piracy.
If Sony was seeing any meaningful sales of ps3 and vita games on psn they wold not shut things down. The truth is, probably hardly anyone is spending any money there on these two platforms.
@Voltan you will be playing the best version of it. Stick with it, the gameplay mechanics really takes off after a first third of the game and do take on hordes, but treat them as puzzles (you need to be ready, utilise the terrain and environment, plant some traps and then execute).
@LordSteev it's a different game now, in terms of technical issues and the story develops after one third. Great voice acting and great characters AND a phenomenal post credit plot twist. Gameplay also opens up after you have had a chance to get new equipment and weapons. Play it, you won't regret it.
@Ralizah @tameshiyaku that voiceover was nails on blackboard horrible, but I ascribe it more to covid level production than to failings of the person narrating. What did the producers do? Just sent her the text with the following instructions: "Read this into your webcam mic. Try a mix of intimidating and scared. Just one take will be fine." Then they gave the voiceover file to their video editor and went: "no, it's fine, just slam the track over that video. No, don't play with levels or adjusting to atmospheric background music."
And here we are. Looking at visuals which are anything but photorealistic and listening to narration that is anything but inviting. Nope, thanks. Going back to MGS5.
Sammy is cracking. Dude, it's simple, the model IS unsustainable. For Sony. It is not unsustainable for MS, who can afford to sink billions at a loss just to remain a relevant player in the gaming industry. Also, if Sony or MLB are getting that sweet gamepass money, that has no bearing on the fact that Sony can't afford to put their 1st party exclusives on ps plus, for example.
Why are you all so mind blown? It's a game that never existed on xb. Of course MS is going to introduce it on gamepass to give it good exposure. Also, why do you think Sony went multiplat for the game? It was MS offering that sweeeeeet gamepass moneyz, y'all.... quit your childish whining. 🤣🤣🤣
@Flaming_Kaiser hey there King, you are making a good point for people with small... hard... drives. My example is more relevant to people with larger ones. Having a 4TB HDD already in your ps4pro for example, even a 2 TB one, makes it a hassle to backup and restore, plus you can't get away with buying a smaller, cheaper ssd to benefit. Sure, if you like to throw money away at this stage of ps4pro's life cycle and pay half of what ps5 is worth, aaand have the time to waste to backup that 2TB/4TB drive (on an additional external usb), install the os, restore your games... sure, do it. Or, you just spend the least amount of money and time and kick ass. It was never an issue of anyone's tech capability, LoL.
To anyone with a ps4 pro & no plans to purchase ps5 before xmas 2022, do yourself a favor and buy a samsung 1TB qvo ssd and an external case for it that supports UASP (e.g. Sabrent Hard Drive Accessory Case Toolless 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure). This is the cheapest way and with least hassle to get that sweet, sweet ssd over usb 3.1 speed on your ps4 pro. I am suggesting usb as the performance will be almost the same as if you installed it internally and you will avoid all the hassle. Then, move only the games you want to actively play on it and move them back when you finish them (this is why you don't need more than a 1TB drive). This combo will have you play CP2077 no problem. No texture pop-ins etc.
@Medic_Alert this. All this talk about technical issues just played into CDPR's hands. No one is talking that what we got has very little to do with what was advertised for years. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game a lot. Did not ask for reimbursement and will play it again once ps5 visual upgrades are available, but let's call it how it is. The game delivered is at best, at best Rage2 in cyberpunk settings (well, not even that but you know what I mean, it's open world, there is no living cities and the fps is enjoyable and allows for creativity during fights... although Rage2's enemy AI is eons ahead).
@Col_McCafferty do you have a Pro or OG/slim? I finished CP2077 on a ps4pro and had a blast. The game ran fine, the only problem being occasional crashes (the game's checkpointing was helpful to not lose any progress even with those crashes). Oh, yeah, a "tiny" detail: I played it off of an ssd ... forget it on a standard hard drive.
You all know that, come Monday, everyone, their mother, her uncle and his dog will be buying toilet paper because of this. Not food. Not medicine. Toilet paper.
Can't wait. In the meantime, a word of advice to people narrating videos. Use pauses. Use a purposeful pause between words: "And" "direction". If you don't, it sounds like something else (especially if you pronounce "direction" with a "di" like in ditto)
I will never stop being befuddled by allegedly PlayStation oriented journos. They never fail to talk about the greatness of Game Pass (which it is, it's awesome, I am benefiting immensely) and in the same breath go to PS Plus as a comparison.
Same here, same on IGN.
Dudes, it's xbox live gold vs ps plus
And
Xbox game pass vs PS Now.
Sony doesn't need to fret - PS Now is insanely good. The only thing game pass has as an advantage is first party games day one (edit: ok, yes, it also includes xbox live gold). Otherwise PS Now is great (benefiting from that as well).
So yeah, Sony needs to include plus and first party games into Now to compete and they will never do that.
MS can afford to bleed money away. Sony can't.
If it's story driven, smaller, denser is preferable. If it's something that loosely relies on the story but more on it's world, then definitely bigger is what is better. E.g. Horizon, Yakuza, Assasins Creed, denser Fallout, GTA, bigger
@wiiware in an ideal world, yes, and I wish it was so, next Horizon PS5 only. Still, keep in mind that this console gen transition is nothing like the ones before. PS4 and ps5 are much closer than any two previous playstation consoles, and I can imagine Horizon development which scales properly to ps5 capabilities without being bogged down by ps4 restrictions.
@Voltan not the point I am trying to make. PS4 still has a huge install base. If you are anyway making a version for it and don't want to kill ps4 sales with all the people who are waiting to upgrade to ps5, it will be sold the same way as Miles.
Already bought it for PC but stopped playing once I heard a PS version was incoming (yeah, I would rather have full voice acted lines than read, sue me). Will double dip. This game deserves all the money. My stupid death in Disco: I kicked a metal cabinet and due to my all-brains-no-brown build for the character, broke my leg, fell, hit my head and died. 😂... this game!
Oh man, this made me feel tired. As a lot of new games, they just can't contain themselves and hit the brakes at one point. Got a time loop, got all the weapons, throw in multiple targets, put magic in, put regular enemies, put in other assassins and and and. Ah, stop already. I was interested in this game and now am definitely gonna skip. The game sounds like a chore.
@Serialsid every parent should be willing and ready to do the right thing. Save the world and let your child be slaughtered or sell the world for your child's life? The answer should always be: sell the f**** world! And your children should live knowing you would sell your soul for their life.
That was the point of the first one. Joel truly became a parent to Ellie. He had no choice in the matter. They were about to slaughter Ellie without giving them a chance to talk about what the procedure meant. Well, no, not if Joel had a say. And Joel told them. Fireflies died because of their hubris and they had it coming.
@Hyperluminal keep in mind that 4000% could be insignificant in absolute numbers. It all depends on the previous value. If last week's sales were 5 units then a rise of 4000% would mean that it sold 205 units this week 😂 This is why providing percentile data without absolutes to which the percentage increase applies is irrelevant.
TLOU2 sales up by 3,992%... so how many did it sell in the week before? 1 copy? 3 copies? Thankfully it wasn't zero, because you'd have to report that TLOU2 sales went up by infinite% 😅
Let's not pretend that this "they are impatient" narrative has anything to do with customers. We will buy games whenever they are released. Regardless of whether we are angry or not because of delays. All this ever had and will have to do is with higher-ups pushing for a release. All these devs doing the "whoever needs to hear it"... they are talking to their money people, not us.
@Col_McCafferty regardless of the logic, which is sound, very few mainstream customers will trade the ease of consoles for a complication that is gaming on a PC (for all normies).
And me here reading patch notes and reading all the comments sitting in silence and pondering zero CyberPunk 2077 main story or side missions issues I had (yeah, yeah, I must have been lucky, still).
Yes, I know, talking about CP being or not being buggy is a diversion from the fact that CDPR delivered a different game than that announced. Thus no amount of patching will sort things out. Nothing short of a re-release a la FFXIV realms reborn course correction.
@striderbob I wonder how much of that work in Prospect got him this gig. In any case, Pedro did some outstanding voice acting in The Mandalorian, managed to channel some of that Clint Eastwood awesomeness as well, so I'm looking forward to seeing his interpretation of Joel.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 - Less Crashing and Better Performance on PS5, PS4, But We've Still Got a Long Way to Go
Here are some load times, ps4 pro with a traditional hdd and then when the game is moved to that external ssd with uasp:
GTAV load times to single player start
2 min 19 seconds vs 1:35
Miles Morales:
Load to title 1:13 vs. 50 sec
To in-game from title 26 sec vs 15
I didn't measure cp 2077 while it was on the traditional disk but my subjective feel is that load times have been halved.

Re: PS5 Stock Could Be Affected by Ship Stuck in Suez Canal
You all know that, come Monday, everyone, their mother, her uncle and his dog will be buying toilet paper because of this.
Not food. Not medicine. Toilet paper.
Re: Here's Disco Elysium Running on PS5
Can't wait.
In the meantime, a word of advice to people narrating videos. Use pauses.
Use a purposeful pause between words:
"And" "direction".
If you don't, it sounds like something else (especially if you pronounce "direction" with a "di" like in ditto)
Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?
Sony can't.
Re: Soapbox: How Yakuza Proves Bigger Open Worlds Aren't Always Better
If it's story driven, smaller, denser is preferable. If it's something that loosely relies on the story but more on it's world, then definitely bigger is what is better.
E.g. Horizon, Yakuza, Assasins Creed, denser
Fallout, GTA, bigger
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales Remains Sony's Hero in the Top 10
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales Remains Sony's Hero in the Top 10
@Voltan not the point I am trying to make. PS4 still has a huge install base. If you are anyway making a version for it and don't want to kill ps4 sales with all the people who are waiting to upgrade to ps5, it will be sold the same way as Miles.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales Remains Sony's Hero in the Top 10
@wiiware I think Horizon will have a ps5 version as free if you buy ps4 version. They are going to sell like gang busters.
Re: Disco Elysium Dev Reiterates March Release Date for PS5, PS4 Versions
Already bought it for PC but stopped playing once I heard a PS version was incoming (yeah, I would rather have full voice acted lines than read, sue me). Will double dip. This game deserves all the money.
My stupid death in Disco: I kicked a metal cabinet and due to my all-brains-no-brown build for the character, broke my leg, fell, hit my head and died. 😂... this game!
Re: PS Now March 2021 Update Adds inFAMOUS, World War Z, and More
Let me fix that title for you:
PS Now March 2021 Update Adds Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, SUPERHOT, and More
Subtitle: World War Z and inFAMOUS: Second Son too
There, now it's newsworthy.
Re: PS5 Console Exclusive Deathloop Explains Itself in This New Trailer
Oh man, this made me feel tired. As a lot of new games, they just can't contain themselves and hit the brakes at one point. Got a time loop, got all the weapons, throw in multiple targets, put magic in, put regular enemies, put in other assassins and and and. Ah, stop already. I was interested in this game and now am definitely gonna skip. The game sounds like a chore.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales and The Last of Us 2 Enjoy Huge Sales Spikes
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales and The Last of Us 2 Enjoy Huge Sales Spikes
@Hyperluminal keep in mind that 4000% could be insignificant in absolute numbers. It all depends on the previous value. If last week's sales were 5 units then a rise of 4000% would mean that it sold 205 units this week 😂
This is why providing percentile data without absolutes to which the percentage increase applies is irrelevant.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man: Miles Morales and The Last of Us 2 Enjoy Huge Sales Spikes
TLOU2 sales up by 3,992%... so how many did it sell in the week before? 1 copy? 3 copies? Thankfully it wasn't zero, because you'd have to report that TLOU2 sales went up by infinite% 😅
Re: God of War Ragnarok Will Release 'When It's Done' on PS5
Let's not pretend that this "they are impatient" narrative has anything to do with customers. We will buy games whenever they are released. Regardless of whether we are angry or not because of delays.
All this ever had and will have to do is with higher-ups pushing for a release. All these devs doing the "whoever needs to hear it"... they are talking to their money people, not us.
Re: PS Plus March 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced
@danlk1ng I don't know where the confusion comes from but to my understanding while watching state of play:
Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?
@Col_McCafferty regardless of the logic, which is sound, very few mainstream customers will trade the ease of consoles for a complication that is gaming on a PC (for all normies).
Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?
Once these games enter bargain bin territory, I would like to see them go to PC (2 years) and then XB (3 years) as well. Why not?
Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Patch 1.012 Out Now on PS5, PS4, Adds River Raids, New Skills, and More
And me here reading patch notes and reading all the comments sitting in silence and pondering zero CyberPunk 2077 main story or side missions issues I had (yeah, yeah, I must have been lucky, still).
Yes, I know, talking about CP being or not being buggy is a diversion from the fact that CDPR delivered a different game than that announced. Thus no amount of patching will sort things out. Nothing short of a re-release a la FFXIV realms reborn course correction.
Re: Random: The Last of Us Fans Are Placing Pedro Pascal into Scenes from the Game
@striderbob I wonder how much of that work in Prospect got him this gig. In any case, Pedro did some outstanding voice acting in The Mandalorian, managed to channel some of that Clint Eastwood awesomeness as well, so I'm looking forward to seeing his interpretation of Joel.
