I've always liked the character, but somehow only managed to finish Mega Man 2 for the NES (On an actual NES clone. Yes, I'm THAT old). Played X4 and X5 on the PS1, but never got too far. As much as I like difficult games, there's something about the Mega Man series that doesn't click with me enough for me to endure the punishment.
@SparkyMcFly I remember clearly that Sony announced prior to the PS4 release that their aim was to bring back the variety of genres from the PS1 era. It's unquestionable that that's what they've been doing lately. Right now and in the following months, it really seems that this generation will truly have something for everyone, especially for Vita + PS4 owners. If you look at the gaming landscape right now with an open mind, this is a very exciting time.
@adf86 The PS3 version was already on the IGC. And the new one will come to PS4 eventually. Timed exclusive is the most obnoxious concept of late on an industry that's already brimming with obnoxious concepts.
Don't know about Edwin_Garcia's opinion, but since SEGA is basically neglecting the West when it comes to their RPG franchises in the last few years (Shining series and Valkyria Chronicles III spring to mind), I'd say it's very unlikely that we'll see PS Nova.
@tonyp1987 Thanks! I see that Season 2 is going on right now, so that means that I'll have the game plot covered if I watch the 25 episodes of Season 1, right?
There's a lot of confusion regarding what's indie and what's not as well, which only goes to show how arbitrary the term is. I've seen people calling Child of Light indie when it's made by a small(ish) team at Ubisoft — not "indie" by any stretch of imagination.
@SimonAdebisi. THIS. Quality control is key. People forget that the DSiWare store, for instance, was basically indie only — but it's almost all a big pile of junk/shovelware. In fact, Nintendo is pretty lame at quality control for small third party efforts, especially when you think of how polished their 1st party products are.
I love the art style and the gameplay seems right up my alley. Would I be completly lost story-wise if I never saw the anime or is it at least understandable for newcomers?
@N711 Yeah, I see what you mean, the whole distinction is blown out of proportion. I find the differentiation between AAA and Indie artificial and basically a bait thrown by the industry that everyone is more eager than they should to bite. We should be more worried if a game is worth our time and money or not, instead of labeling them this or that.
Not to mention that AAA is basically an excuse to charge 60 bucks for a game based only on production values in spite of its quality.
Another issue is that we're all constantly screaming for MORE 30+ HOURS CONTENT even thought most of us are already drowning in our backlogs. It doesn't seem to me that there is a drought of games in the market by any extent, but people are constantly anxious about new releases. They will come when they come, I personally don't get the urge.
This gen will start to truly impress players eager for big titles from 2015 onwards. I'm glad that the indies are here to close the gap for the time being. Sony and MS had to launch the systems seeing that the last gen was already going for way too long — but, at the same time, developing time for big budget titles increased by leaps and bounds. If it weren't for the strong indie scene and for consumer interest on remastered titles there would be very few games to justify a new gen at this point. Big games will come in time.
@get2sammyb
Is there a list of the VITA announcements? I kinda remember a small clip showing a few titles. Sony makes a point of not announcing VITA games clearly, so it's hard to keep track.
Even on the European PS Blog I couldn't find a detailed VITA list with the games announced only for the VITA and the ones that will be available for the VITA and the PS4.
The best I could find is:
"Thomas Was Alone developer Mike Bithell showed off more of his eagerly anticipated stealth game Volume.
And the list goes on: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Papers Please. Nom Nom Galaxy. Snow. In Space We Brawl. Dreamfall Chapters. Pix the Cat. Ether One. Runemaster. Q.U.B.E 2. It was an avalanche of new games, further demonstrating why PlayStation remains the very best place to play."
I've just checked the PSN EU Store and it says that the offers for PS3 and VITA run until August 14th, and not August 8th. Maybe you want to correct that?
Anyway, I'll get the DLC Bundle for Dante's Inferno. I was avoiding it because 17,99€ is ridiculous, but 6,99€ looks more reasonable. Will also get Mind Zero and a couple of previously discounted games that I missed on other sales, such as Castle of Illusion and Duck Tales Remastered.
Wait, then Proteus and Fez will be up for grabs for the VITA as well? If yes, then along with Metrico it's a VITA only month for me. (Although I'll get Road Not Taken for when I get a PS4 just because of that Robert Frost reference).
@ThreadShadow Fair enough. We obviously don't see eye to eye in this subject (which is perfectly fine BTW). I believe there's more to human nature than the consistency you talk about, and that violence will always be part of human psyche: the trick is learning how to deal with it — I personaly think violent entertainment is one of the most harmless way to do so. Inconsistency is part of life and human experience as well, it's up to us to trace the boundaries of it with our own moral compasses. But I think we both made perfectly clear to each other where we stand on this.
@ThreadShadow Look, I don't want to keep feeding this discussion, but I have to say one last thing.
I don't play games to achieve a higher level of consciousness or become a better human being, there are other things (real things you know) that help me with that in my REAL LIFE. (Helping others/ being a good husband, parent/ having a decent work ethic and values.)
I play games for FUN, and my idea of fun includes (but it's not limited to) pretending to be a digital ninja from hell that can cut imaginary adversaries in pieces. Or watching a real gory movie.
Stop acting like this is a sign that society is doomed. Or that we are becoming worse human beings BECAUSE of it.
As I said before, there is nothing wrong with it not being YOUR cup of tea, but certainly there is nothing wrong with it beign mine or anyone else's.
@Deadstanley Well put. It can also be argued to be beneficial in a sense that allows us to harmlessly tap into the violent side of our nature in a "escape valve" kind of way. Representations of violence can also arguably function as a stress realese regarding cold hard facts of nature such as our mortality and organic nature (we tend to prefer to forget that we're basically a sentient walking bag of bodily fluids, lol).
Oh, I also think it's perfectly fine if it's not one's cup of tea. And everyone has a right to have their own tastes and limits when it comes to violence in entertainment. What I don't like is the self-righteousness and moral judgement that almost always sneak in everytime the video game violence issue comes up.
And once and for all:
You can't blame artistic depictions of violence for real world violence. On the odd chance that real world violence seems influenced by fake entertainment violence, there are always, ALWAYS, major determining factors that are the real culprits, such as untended mental disorders, parental neglect and so forth. Censorship is NEVER the answer, in fact, it's a scapegoat for our inablity to solve much more complex problems that can create violence.
@Gemuarto I meant the same people always come back to criticize violence on games but also comeback to watch the next gross stuff that comes out from "perverted" minds, not that they'll keep watching this one video on repeat, but anyway. And you can get out of your high horse now that you showed how unknown people on the internet are perverted and sick because they like violent games.
@ThreadShadow You mean a real ninja from hell choping the face of a real ice ninja from an ice ninja clan?
Also, I find it funny how the anti-violence on entertainment crowd love to criticize fake violence (emphasis is on fake) but keep coming back to watch it and criticize it again. Guilty pleasure anyone? Live and let live, no ninjas were harmed in the making of this game.
Very good one it seems, but on par with MK9's level of violence I guess, only more technically impressive from what (little) we can see. I don't find it much more gross then some of the grisly ones on MK9. Also, I think there should be more blood gushing from the split head/brain — the blood shouldn't just leak and puddle from THAT, should it? But don't mind me, I'm a gore hound and horror flick buff, so...
Well, that's disappointing. But judging by the way physical releases for the VITA collect dust on the shelves of the stores where I live, I can't say I'm surprised that even big releases are starting to go digital-only. With so many good digital-only titles going on sale periodically and with PS+ freebies on top of it, the only game I have physical for my VITA is Gravity Rush. There are plenty more I want to get physically, but I end up not buying them because there's always something else to play/buy on discount on the PSN store.
@rastamadeus The article is about PS4's IGC line up so I see your point. If you look it from a PS4-only owner point of view, I can understand the disappointment. They could easily dish-out Killzone already for instance.
@thedevilsjester Yeah, I also like when something big that's not usually my cup of tea comes out on the IGC; gives me the chance to try out big releases that I would not get to the trouble of buying physical and certainly wouldn't buy digital. In fact, one of the good things of PS+ for me is that it broadens my gaming habits. But when it doesn't happen, I'm usually pretty happy with smaller offerings.
They should make it more balanced though, it's not like the PS3 for instance doesn't have a huge backlog of AAAs that haven't got to be on the IGC yet.
I know most will disagree, but I'm totally ok with having smaller games for the IGC, since I generally like to buy big retail releases physical.
Having smaller games that interest me for "free" makes me have more budget for bigger releases when they come out on retail, since I almost always only buy digital when I have no choice. So IGC for digital-only smaller games + more money for retail releases is a win-win situation for me.
I don't really get how the whole remote play thing works since I only have a VITA and a PS3 and remote play sucks on the latter, but wouldn't it be possible to play this on VITA via remote play? Obviously is not the same as a VITA release, but still...
@SimonAdebisi Totally with you there. It's incredible how people can stomach ultraviolence if it comes in the "right" package. Everytime something comes up that shows violence under an unappealing light, in a way that makes us cringe like violence SHOULD do, everyone goes oh no, they shouldn't be allowed to do that, that's offensive. Of course it's offensive, it's violence for Christ sake. If people want to be so rigtheous about it, be coherent enough to rant about shows/games that glorify violence as cool, awesome and artsy.
@3rdEyeMind @Reverend_Skeeve I also totally get it's a parody, but in my book it doesn't give them free rein to make it look awful. Neither this, nor the fact that their are not a AAA studio. But anyway, let's hope the game will be good in the end.
@charlesnarles Not on the PS3 apart from special collector editions, but usually only with a normal CD with bonus material. Why would anyone launch a two blu-ray remaster?
Anyway, I'll get it when I eventually buy a PS4. I like how Naughty Dog seems to be using this definitive edition to see what they can do with the PS4.
I tried and it's very fun indeed! I'll probably dish some cold hard cash for the full experience sometime in the future. My only complaint is the absence of online multiplayer at this day and age with a totally unexplainable ad-hoc multiplayer mode instead — WITH AN UNATTAINABLE TROPHY TO GO WITH IT.
I have my VITA since last Christmas and already have 14 digital-only games and only one physical (Gravity Rush). Most of the digital games I got on seasonal sales, which coupled with PS+ give me insane discounts. So in less than 5 months I bought 15 games, or 3 games per month, and plan to get Retrocity Rampage, TxK and OlliOlli on Easter sales — so I reckon he's got a point.
I was really surprised last week to know that the enhanced version of Toukiden will have a PSP version. Can't imagine for the life of me how it will play though.
My user name is a mix of an abbreviation of my real name and the year I've purchased my PS3: fabmorais_2011. Not very clever or creative, and sometimes I'd rather change it, but I don't think I would even if I could.
As for the player rep system, I can see it being easily abused, specially in fighting games, where newer/weaker players would get downvotes all the time from more experienced/arrogant players.
@BornOfEvil That makes two of us, the only difference is that I got my Vita last Christmas — but since Delta was already announced back then, and localizations are going strong for the VITA, I figured it would be best to wait.
@alucard77 Now that you've mentioned the PSP, one of the things that boggles me is the utter lack of support from SquareEnix, which seems more interested in developing for iOS and Android than bringing their IPs that were sucessful on the PSP to the VITA.
@Paranoimia If I wasn't such a fool for indie stuff and bizarre japanese titles I would be disappointed as well. There's no doubt that the VITA took a completely different direction when compared to the way it was advertised in the beginning. It was pushed as a powerhouse built to match PS3's performance and visuals, but you can count on your fingers the titles that live up to this promise — and they are less still if you don't count direct ports. I'm quite happy with the way things are turning out, but I totally understand the dissapointment.
I find it interesting that the 3DS had an absolutely amazing 2013 in terms of exclusives, but there are nowhere near as many good titles announced for 2014 yet, while the VITA is looking good this first semester when it comes to games. Let's see if it holds up from the second semester on.
Well at least it's here: I've been patiently waiting for Dragon Fantasy II and still no word about an EU release. The guys at Muteki Corp. keep on saying that they submitted the game to SCEE and are waiting for their response. Sorry for the off-topic rant, but sometimes SCEE just sucks.
Maybe its silly, but I fell tempted to at least give it a go now. I have never tried it, but on the other hand I have nothing against a few easy trophies

@alucard77 Now that you've mentioned the PSP, one of the things that boggles me is the utter lack of support from SquareEnix, which seems more interested in developing for iOS and Android than bringing their IPs that were sucessful on the PSP to the VITA.
Re: Sony: PlayStation Vita Is Proving to Be a Big Niche Device
@Paranoimia If I wasn't such a fool for indie stuff and bizarre japanese titles I would be disappointed as well. There's no doubt that the VITA took a completely different direction when compared to the way it was advertised in the beginning. It was pushed as a powerhouse built to match PS3's performance and visuals, but you can count on your fingers the titles that live up to this promise — and they are less still if you don't count direct ports. I'm quite happy with the way things are turning out, but I totally understand the dissapointment.
Re: Sony: PlayStation Vita Is Proving to Be a Big Niche Device
I find it interesting that the 3DS had an absolutely amazing 2013 in terms of exclusives, but there are nowhere near as many good titles announced for 2014 yet, while the VITA is looking good this first semester when it comes to games. Let's see if it holds up from the second semester on.
Re: You Won't Earn a Platinum for Returning to PlayStation Home
@3Above I hear the trophies are retroactive, so you'll probably get them all next time you log in.
Re: European PlayStation Store Doesn't Escape Without a Hitch This Week
Well at least it's here: I've been patiently waiting for Dragon Fantasy II and still no word about an EU release. The guys at Muteki Corp. keep on saying that they submitted the game to SCEE and are waiting for their response. Sorry for the off-topic rant, but sometimes SCEE just sucks.

Maybe its silly, but I fell tempted to at least give it a go now. I have never tried it, but on the other hand I have nothing against a few easy trophies
