I loved this game to death and this is such a nice surprise to me. The game definitely needed some balancing of weapon types but apart from that, the verticality of combat and the unique premise made the game really fun.
The game starts really strong by setting up an intrigue between the main characters of the plot. It was almost.... political. I wished it built on this and made this more of a personal, mature story with some obvious significance for the world (big eikons fighting it out) than what we ended up getting. It's a shame, I found myself waiting for the story to get back on track but instead it was drifting more and more away from its initial 'promise'. Gameplay was fine altough not particularly complex, felt like and AA game and not AAA. I was also waiting for the some additional 'wrinkles' and gameplay systems to appear but that was also never the case. It's all just very lean. Voice actors absolutely carry this game like no other.
I wanted to give it a 10 because that is what it is in my heart but couldn't because of minor niggles. Gave it a 9 instead as despite those it is a phenomenal game (I also played the original back in the day).
Knowing Apple, I was expecting their AR device to look like normal glasses and that they wouldn't release an AR product until that level of refinement was achieved and nothing less. Boy was I wrong! We didn't even get slightly chunky glasses you'd be moderately embarrassed walking with outside, we got real divers goggles so where's the snorkel?
10/10 for me. Hear me out. These days I struggle to maintain interest in a game to even finish it and this one I want to 100%. I am close to the end, unlocked all traversal options and going through all the optional area and collectibles. That literally never happens. On top of that, they nailed the Star Wars feel and humour, voice acting is top notch and the story is interesting, could be better but I am happy with it. Performance issues almost don't bother me in the slightest. It's great, you should be playing it!
@PegasusActual93 It's a case of 'I didn't like the episode for real reasons so will find a substitute reason to make my dissatisfaction known'. Let's face it, people are not review bombing it because there was not enough Joel in it. Valid criticisms are fine but even with those, the episode does not deserve a 1/10 score.
I actually loved the remastered music in FFX despite being widely slated. The only butchered track for me was Servants of the Mountain but everything else was a straight up improvement. I do not mind remastered tracks in this, the original exists after all to listen to and so we will get double the music. Can't wait.
@KidBoruto Allies. They get themselves killed too easily. There are strategies to employ but for the whole team, not individual. You'd want Rinwell as far away as possible at all times but Law as close as possible but this is mutually exclusive unless I am missing something.
I gave it a 9. Kinda reminds me of Ghost of Tsushima - both games don't do anything new for the genre they represent but what they do do, they execute exceptionally well.
@GorosBat I've been fighting all enemies on the map to keep the levels high. Fighting bosses sometimes required fighting them once to know what their element is, if not obvious, and equip accessories to mitigate and switch off artes for other characters to make them use only the effective ones. Breaking and stunlocking is important in this game (so I find Law + Alphen is a better combination for that than Kisara, for example). There'a a bit of micromanagement then but it is doable.
I was underwhelmed by the demo, too, but couldn't put the game down today, it's a lot of fun. I've put my pre-order in after seeing the reviews. Combat makes much more sense when you are not dropped into it like the demo did. Some anime tropes aside, I like the story so far as well but it's early days.
They weren't 'ready' to show Insomniac games, they are years away! The way I saw it was it was a sign of confidence in the studio i.e. 'we can show it now because we know Insomniac will not disappoint'. Where does this leave the others? My main complaint was almost total lack of game variety. Third person shooters and third person adventure games is all we got.
I seem to have fewer problems with this demo than others, I think it looks good, despite the slightly aged vibe. The combat looks fluid enough and has a nice weight, if a little slower than their other, recent games. This is Platinum so the combat will be great and I do enjoy their output in general. What worries me is that it looks a little too generic and it being a live service. I hope they will reconsider that aspect after the outcry.
Preordered and can't wait, this game is right up my street. Not checking the trophy list just yet. Completing it with 2 protagonists makes sense, though, I just hope the campaigns are different enough between them.
He's forgetting that it will be plugged into the extremely popular PS5. The future is eventually wireless, that is obvious, we're not quite there yet at these price points, though. I do not mind, the kind of games Sony will want on PSVR will lend themselves to longer, sit-down sessions where cable doesn't matter that much.
Looks great. I just hope that the creativity unlocked by such a unique premise and setting has been taken advantage of. I will wait for reviews but I will likely buy it.
They are reinforcing these kinds of consumer behaviours i.e. if I know a game is going to be discounted in a few weeks' time AND be patched to play better it's a win for me. This is always the case with PS games (not Nintendo, though, but their games are not buggy messes).
Offer me something substantial at launch to draw me in if you want me to take a risk by spending £70 and showing support. A free costume is not enough, make a difference to my launch experience that I will otherwise miss.
Another shout for Soul Sacrifice Delta. Fantastic game with great storytelling. Shame it got lost on Vita a little, this would thrive on the main console. Freedom Wars is another one to pick up, my favourite monhun-type game and my first ever platinum. Loved that game.
@mittensknox This will happen 100%. Library of PSVR games is not that big, especially the really good ones like AstroBot. Can't see this title being forgotten and many others.
I am just going to wait until they release all parts integrated into one 'Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, 2.0 Upgrade, 3.0 Gold Saucer, 4.0 One Winged Angel 5.0 Meteorite Destruction Edition' with separate DLCs for Yuffie part 2 and 3, Vincent parts 1, 2, 3 and 4, the Weapon Episodes (at least 3), the Master Materia Episodes (stopped counting by now) and the Chocobo Breeding mini-game add-on*.
*Smartphone download required to play the Chocobo Breeding mini-game.
I got 3 and it was because I spent the whole launch day flipping between tabs and refreshing, battling against slow or crashing pages.
1 was Amazon, which was stolen. Then I made a preorder with Tesco for 2 (me and my partner) and both were ready for collection without a hitch at the specified time, 2 weeks later. The Amazon one's replacement arrived after that but at that point I had no need for it and sold it off. It got 'lost' in transit again (!) but luckily I had full insurance on it, which they will pay out in the coming weeks. Stressful does not even begin to cover how all of this has been for me.
@polljord One issue does not stop another from existing. It should be within our capacity to address both, and many more others.
Re bots they should be banned, one way or another. Market sales cannot be treated as wholesale. Someone made a good point about warranty, usually it is not respected if an item is re-sold.
I read an article about this and how even scalpers were impressed with what Tesco UK had done. I was, too, as I got a console for me and my partner from them. They set up a separate website, accepted only max 2 orders per customer and when collecting you had to show your photo ID matching the name registered. They then walked to the back of the shop and 10 minutes later brought the consoles, marking your name off a list. Anything online-only is ripe for abuse.
@Profondo Each to their own. I said I like the blurriness on PS4, of course it's crisp on PS5 - too crisp, is what I am trying to say. The person playing the game I was witnessing shared my feelings. We are a minority, I am aware.
I saw it being played at 60FPS and didn't like it (I completed the game myself before I got my PS5). Go to the snowy area and see how unnatural everything looks. I kinda like the blurry picture on PS4...
They haven't planned for the backlash? Did they not know how the game ran on consoles? Of course they did, which is why they didn't show gameplay or let reviewers get their hands on review codes in advance. Maybe they thought players would just suck it up. Well, tough luck.
As for CDPR, they don't seem to be the same company as they were just a few years ago. They built their reputation on quality and consumer-friendly approach. They grew too big and have been taken over by shareholders, without any checks and balances in place, who need a game out at all cost to get bonuses. Company values get lost in the process. All too familiar a story.
When game codes are not given in advance to review outlets it is always a red flag. One needs to be really careful when pre-ordering these days, if it is worth it at all. I acknowledge the fact that most games launch in playable state but I do mind taking a gamble on that each time. I should be covered by a) reviews in advance of launch day, b) quality control; games should not be released in beta-state unless clearly sold as such and c) robust returns policy. None of the measures have been in place here. Re c) someone compared this to physical releases, that you wouldn't be able to return an open box. Of course not, how will the shop know that you've not played and completed the game? But with digital, Sony has all the data (not even going to mention that you can always sell on the physical copy).
The penny has finally dropped on the issue. You can't release a broken mess and expect to take full money for that. Patches or no, people don't buy broken cars with a promise that they will be fixed 2 months later, do they? Yet here we are, games are somehow exempt. There must be a returns system in place, it is long overdue.
That is how you spend the trust gained over the years, people will be a lot more careful when pre-ordering or 'hyping' CDPR's output. Although, maybe that is wishful thinking; looking at Bethesda, they were doing quite well all this time despite releasing one unplayable mess after another.
@TG16_IS_BAE Read again, please; what I meant was that people who only play multiplayer games are in the minority, most people play some multiplayer games and some single player games. No science to back it up, just common sense. Hence, pitting them against one another as if you couldn't have both is pointless.
People play many games in the lifespan of a system. I am sure there are some who play CODs etc. exclusively but I suspect they are in the minority. We keep pitting online games and single player games against each other but the truth is there is market for both, which is heavily overlapping. In other words, variety of quality offerings sells a system and keeps people tied to an ecosystem and Sony knows that.
I'm a recipient of the Amazon's email and nowhere in it does it say how they will ensure the item will be delivered. It seems that they will just try their luck again and deal with the fallout afterwards.
