Re: Sony: We've Learned Pricing Lessons for PlayStation 4

hamispink

I'm guessing that there will be a version for $399 with the bare minimum and a relatively small HDD. $400 would be great for selling to a wide audience, but I'm afraid that I'll want to spring for a (assumed) more expensive model. I assume there will be a $500 model which would include a larger HDD and either a game or a year subscription to plus.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida Doesn't Want All PS4 Games to be First-Person Shooters

@TheRealBatman I'd say that most shooters are casual games. They are the games that people who only play a couple games a year buy and play with friends. To me, hardcore games are the likes of tactics rpgs, hyper competitive PC games, and games that focus on a mature narrative.

Granted, these are just broad generalizations.

Re: Guerrilla: PlayStation 4 Has No Performance Bottlenecks

I'd assume that it's just a 7200 RPM drive, based on the fact that they stated it will be a "very large" hard drive. It would be interesting if they implemented a hybrid drive. They could have system specific items install on the flash memory to speed up load times and menus, while game data is saved on the actual platters of the hard drive. Also, this solution would be cost effective assuming that Sony is sticking with the 2.5" laptop hard drives.

Re: Atari Founder: PlayStation 4 Will Struggle Due to 'Lame' Software Tools

hamispink

I'm not sure if I misunderstood, but it seemed like he said that Sony's Software tools lame in regard to past hardware transitions. It seems to me that either he knows what he's talking about and is more critical than others, or that he hasn't had experience with the development tools that others are singing nothing but praises for.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Vita Steady, Muramasa Starts Strong

hamispink

It's good to see the vita still doing well, though Soul Sacrifice hasn't sold as well as I would've hoped. The Wii U had a small spike from Dragonquest. Did Dragonquest X already come out on the Wii? I would expect a stronger sales if it were a new game.

Also, I still can't believe how well the 3DS sells, and it's incredibly consistent week by week.

Re: Rumour: Sony Planning Second PS4 Unveiling Before E3

hamispink

@rastamadeus I disagree about the Gamecube's and Wii's relative success. The Gamecube was an abysmal failure compared to any successful console, selling only 22 million units. Also, the Wii didn't trounce either the 360 or PS3. the Wii has only sold 25 million more units as either console so everyone did well this generation.

Edit: I would like to point out that I want the Wii U to succeed, though I can't imagine that I'll ever buy one at this point. Though there is a part of me that wishes Nintendo would drop out of hardware and make games for other consoles. I like Nintendo games, but I hate to buy their consoles.

Re: Call of Duty Could Look As Good As This in the Future

hamispink

People and moving objects will likely never look quite normal in games. They could look identical in a still image, but I can't imagine that we will ever see rendered graphics that can truly mimic the subtle movement that makes up human interaction. That being said, we are close to having games that show natural environments and cities that will look even better than real life, as the lighting, colors, and textures are used to create artistically appealing worlds.

Re: Pachter: Sony Won't Make Money on the PlayStation Vita

hamispink

The indie games will be bought up in droves by the current vita owners, many of whom are starved for new games (I'm still in the having WAY too many games to play position after the sales). The problem is that ports of these small games aren't going to drive sales for most consumers. The vita needs some big name games, which will hopefully be coming from Japan in greater numbers with the recent price drop.

Re: Talking Point: Should Beyond: Two Souls Be a PlayStation 4 Game?

hamispink

I wouldn't mind seeing it release on both consoles, but I'll be buying it on PS3 no matter what. The game looks great as is, and a story driven game like this doesn't really lend itself to multiple purchases. I wouldn't mind if Quantic Dream ports the game to the PS4 as long as it doesn't take too much time and resources away from their actual PS4 game.

Re: Talking Point: Has the PS4's Lack of Backward Compatibility Affected Your PS3 Purchases?

hamispink

I'll be keeping my PS3. It's my main gaming machine and it has become my source for most all of my Playstation 1 + 2 games. It's a console that I won't ever give up. The PS4 will be for PS4 games, and my PS3 will be for everything else.

edit: it's also hard to leave behind my digital library which has more than filled my 320 GB hard drive. When I upgraded my space a few years ago, I never imagined that I'd fill it up, but will PS plus and more games being offered digitally all the time, it didn't take long.
