Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Release Less Exclusive Games?

hamispink

@Jaz007 Uncharted Golden Abyss is great. The extra features like touch combat are annoying, but overall I've enjoyed the game much more than Drake's Fortune. It's not at the same level as Uncharted 2+3, but It is a great game and a sequel made by Sony Bend has the potential to rival or surpass the PS3 games.

Re: Reaction: The Last of Us' Launch Date Points to the PlayStation 4's Imminent Arrival

hamispink

I'm finally ready for the next gen. I'm just curious to see whether it will be Sony or Microsoft that impresses me the most to buy their next console first. At this point I'm more likely to go for the PS4 because I'm so heavily invested into the PSN and Sony games, though the price and features will of the next consoles will be interesting. I expect Sony to go for the standard gaming market with a standard controller(I hope!) and I'm guessing that Microsoft will push Kinect 2.0 and Media integration.
It's completely possible that Sony could be the only console manufacturer to focus on the core gaming market (I'm not ready to count the Wii U in on that just yet).

Re: Talking Point: What Went Wrong with PlayStation All-Stars?

hamispink

@Nintendonaut I'm not sure if you've played the game, but It doesn't really play anything like smash bros. Its a faster paced game, and the super system for kills is more fair than smash bros stage falls(though it's arguable whether it's more fun).
I'd say comparing smash bros to all stars is like comparing Monster hunter to Ragnarok Odyssey. Monster hunter is slow and all about timing, while Ragnarok is fast paced and heavily based on combos.

Re: Spyro the Dragon Is Flying onto the European PSN Next Week

hamispink

I had no idea these hadn't been released yet in Europe. The Spyro games are some of my favorite games(Spyro 3 especially). They have a great cartoon world and the music brings the setting together. I like the way that it addressed moving in a 3D world with Spyro charging forward on his own(while running) and all you had to do was steer like a racing game. Great fun.

Just to keep gushing over the games, I'd like to point out that Several friends and I played through the entire trilogy to 100% completion in under 24 hours passing the controller around after each level

Re: PlayStation All-Stars' Latest Level Fuses Heavenly Sword with WipEout

hamispink

@rastamadeus The story mode is quite bland, though once you get into some multiplayer (local especially) its one of the funnest games on a sony console. It really nails the intensity of playing with friends with the super system keeping you on your toes. You should have invited your friends daughter to play so you could have had some real fun

Re: Ubisoft Would Like to Know What You Think of Uncharted 3

hamispink

When I played the beginning sequences of brotherhood, while traveling with Lucy, I thought to myself "I've already done this before". The interactions between characters and linear climbing through obstacles literally was Uncharted(It even had Nolan North's voice). I would like to see Assassin's Creed move to the present day, or close to it, with an open world and Uncharted-like gunplay.

Re: Black Friday Propels PS3 and Vita Sales in North America

hamispink

Now maybe Sony will realize that there is demand for the vita, but not at its current price point. $200 with a game and memory card, and $170 for the system itself is literally all Sony needs to do at this point to increase Vita sales to safe levels that will entice third party publishers. That's the price that the psp set years ago and it was successful.

Re: Michael Pachter: PlayStation 4 Will Launch in 2013

hamispink

I think that for the ps4 to succeed Sony just needs 3 things.

  • A standard controller, that is a slight variation on the dualshock 3, because microsoft will focus on kinect, Nintendo is focusing on the gamepad, but I'd assume most gamers just want a quality controller that they are comfortable with. Give me the same controller with indented thumbsticks and triggers like the ps move's and I'll be very happy.
  • Price. If the PS4 releases next year at $400, it would put in position to own the holidays and allow most any gamer the chance to buy one without too much of an afterthought.
  • Games and simplicity. Sony needs to come out swinging with the PS4 with games that appeal to the core gamer. Along with full third party support, they must make it easy for consumers to get the most out of those games. Keep accessories simple to use and cheap(headsets) and make psn work for all games without the consumer having to think twice; This is what it will take for PSN to take over xbox live any time soon.

edit: tl;dr - Sony can appeal to the core gamer by keeping the console simple, intuitive, and cheap. This is what made the ps1 and ps2 so popular.

Re: Review: Ragnarok Odyssey (PlayStation Vita)

hamispink

I've been enjoying it quite a bit thus far(i'm at the end of chapter 3).
@tomboy25 in the defense of the ign editor who reviewed this game, he didn't say it was awful, just that it was mediocre. He criticized the game on many of the same issues as they did on ign, he was just more generous(and accurate IMO) with the scoring. It goes to show that the information and tone of a review are much more important the the score itself.

Re: Sony Sharing Details About PlayStation Plus for Vita Next Week

hamispink

I'm really looking forward to what games they offer. I'm expecting the smaller download only games to be the focus early on, though there could be some major 1st party releases thrown in there. The other question is how many games will be offered in an instant game collection; the vita doesn't exactly have the same caliber of library as the ps3.

Re: Rumour: Sony Shipping Updated PlayStation 4 Development Kits

hamispink

@XCWarrior The 10 year cycle is intended for software support, not being the main console.

Also, I hope they can release a version of the console with descent memory(or continue to use easily exchangeable drives) for $400. I'd bet that Sammy is probably right with them releasing tiers of the console at 400 and 500 dollars, though I wouldn't be surprised if the low-end model would be $450.

Re: Sony: Trophies Are Coming to PlayStation Mobile

hamispink

I hope that the smaller games don't just offer high quality and easy trophies just for sales to trophy whores like me. I enjoy collecting trophies to compare and challenge friends, but some more games that offer unbalanced trophies could further ruin the challenge of getting a higher trophy score, as silly as that sounds.
Though on that note, I would definitely be more interested in buying ps mobile games if they offered trophy support.

Re: Talking Point: Why Now Is the Right Time for the PlayStation Store Overhaul

hamispink

@ohhaime @sammy It seems to me that the search will work like netflix's, which is pretty much what you described. I do hope that it isn't just one vertical column with all the letters and numbers as scrolling through that could be a pain. I would hope that they would break it up into several different columns. Also, if there is any delay after selecting a letter, then it will be a much worse system than the current keyboard.

Re: Ragnarok Odyssey Strikes North American Vitas on 30th October

hamispink

October really is stacked with releases, and so many of them are ones that I want. I think it's pretty strange that, off the top of my head, the only games that I'm looking forward to in November are Persona 4 and All-stars. Though after December rolls by, it will pick up again as the first three months of 2013 are loaded with TONS of great games that avoided the holiday rush.

Re: Review: New Little King's Story (PlayStation Vita)

hamispink

@mandoble
Saying a 6 out of 10 is trash is just silly, though it does say something about the state of game reviews. There is something to be said about the implied review scale of 7-10 that is given to many sites and major game releases.
Good thing I haven't noticed such a thing on the nlife network sites(though the scores are generally a tad too high still).

edit - now that I'm reading over this, have fun trying to make sense of what I said...I'm not completely sure myself

Re: Review: Tokyo Jungle (PlayStation Network)

hamispink

I just picked the game up. The add-on characters are amazing! I'm having a tough time deciding between the fat cat, toro, and kulche. I'm torn because I love fat animals, funny cartoon characters, and I do enjoy some locoroco(which should come to vita!).

Re: Rainbow Moon Is Strolling onto the PlayStation Vita

hamispink

This makes it sound like the software(or hardware) needed to easily port games between ps3 and vita is expensive. If it is worth it for them to develop this game for 9 months, rather than spending the money to (I assume) exponentially shorted the time required, then It must be terribly expensive for indie devs to get it.
Also, This is great news! I will never complain about more RPG's on the vita.

Re: Sony Splitting Up Starhawk for PlayStation Network

hamispink

Apparently if you've bought the game you can download the multiplayer for free. That just makes it even more convenient for me to play this great game! Since I started up at school, I've had a good internet connection and I've finally been getting back into playing Starhawk, which has been a lot of fun, though It still hasn't surpassed warhawk in my heart <3.

Re: Midway Arcade Origins Resurrects Classics for PS3

hamispink

I was really interested until I read $30. Now i'm only slightly interested.
Also marble madness FTW! I played it on NES back in the day, and I was pleasantly surprised by the mode in hamsterball that is more or less the same game with new maps.

Re: Sony Officially Unveils the PlayStation 3 Super Slim

hamispink

I'm still unsure if I actually like the look of the console. If I saw it in person It might be different, but I'm not a fan of the segmented middle.
Also, even if it's bundled with uncharted, they actually raised the price by $20 in the US for the baseline ps3

Re: Troubled Uncharted Flick Loses Grip Once Again

hamispink

What I want out of an Uncharted movie would be for Naughty Dog to motion capture performances and film the movie in the same vein as the Uncharted cut scenes. Take what they have been doing with the games and effectively remove the game portion. This would allow all the original actors as well as keep whoever has written the scripts for all the uncharted games thus far.
Though that's all just a pipe dream.

Re: Review: Sound Shapes (PlayStation Network - Vita)

hamispink

I achieved the platinum on this game a couple days ago, but I'm still addicted. I need to get into the online modes and download some user made levels more. I have been taking a crack at creating my own level recently, though its still VERY rough around the edges

Re: Hideki Kamiya's Not a Big Fan of PlayStation All-Stars

hamispink

I feel like All-Stars is absolutely a rip-off of Smash Bros. but that isn't a bad thing. this game is something that all of us thought of once smash bros was released. having sony's best fight it out like crash, cloud, and croc(it was a different time).
My argument for All-Stars is that it may be copying the fighting style of smash bros. but how do you not criticize the fact that every 2d fighter looks and plays virtually the exact same, with different fighting styles thrown in. Somebody originated the side by side fighters with two health bars overhead, but everybody "copied" and uses it.

Re: Sony: Some of Our Competitors Are Losing the Plot

hamispink

@JavierYHL His comments are more a jab at microsoft than nintendo, though it is true that Sony can't claim that they didn't mismanage their time and focus during their press conference. Although they only focused on games for one console instead of two, so it's forgivable.
