Re: Nvidia Isn't Particularly Impressed with the PlayStation 4

hamispink

He doesn't say anything that isn't true, but he incidentally defines what is great about console gaming, and why it is so popular compared to PC gaming. Most people don't want to constantly upgrade their hardware just to get the best looking games, they just want to play the games. And of course, there is always the high price.

I'm of the opinion that at this point, the high end graphics card business is a huge scam. a mid-range computer can play any game on the market today at a steady frame rate, so what's the point? The computer may cost $600-$800 dollars (built), but it's better than paying the price of a new console for just a graphics card to play prettier crisis.

Re: Nielsen Study Suggests Gaming Is Not the PS3's Primary Use

hamispink

Normally I'd say mines used for mostly gaming, but my random marathon runs through shows could put that over the edge. Also, my roommate uses my PS3 for nothing but netflix so my machine was almost definitely used for streaming more than games. It doesn't hurt that we don't have cable.

Re: Is Sony Discontinuing the 3G PlayStation Vita?

hamispink

I have the 3G model, though I've never actually paid for the service. I got it because of the bundle with a memory card and the promise of super stardust and a free month of use(which I never got because I didn't pay for the first month).

@Get2Sammy2, I also noticed that the 3G model is heavy when my friend first got his wifi vita. I wonder what exactly increases the weight besides the sim card.

Re: Pachter Predicts PlayStation 4 Will Get Outsold By Next Xbox

hamispink

I think that Sony focusing on games was a safe move. I feel that they are guaranteed to get most gamers to buy the system, even if it isn't their main console. As for Microsoft, I feel that they are taking a risk by focusing on multimedia and a broader audience. If it pays off for them, then the Nextbox will sell like crazy, but they run the risk of alienating gamers and failing to attract the broader market at all.

The next xbox focusing on multimedia is like Nintendo trying to court the casual gamer again. The parents and grandparents already own the older system that does everything that they want it to. Why would they buy the new one (Wii U/Xbox)

Re: Interview: Giving Our Gobs a Workout with the Developers of Runner 2

hamispink

I would personally prefer to see the original bit.trip series ported to vita. I have Bit.Trip Saga on the 3DS and I think that the series is perfectly suited to a portable. I would definitely buy them again if not for the trophies, then for an excuse to play through the great series again! (and get perfects on all the Runner levels again).

Re: Wonderbook: Book of Spells Failed to Enchant Store Shelves

hamispink

@get2sammyb Good point, I suppose it doesn't fit with the direction that Sony seems to be taking with it's consoles. More power and a focus on more traditional (controlling) games. (which I think is a good thing.)
If wonderbook could be played by simply plugging it into the TV, then I could see it being a success, but requiring an already expensive console on top of three different peripherals seems to have confused and scared off a lot of consumers.
I am still of the mindset that offering too many skews to consumers has a negative affect on sales, though smart phone sales prove otherwise.

Re: Wonderbook: Book of Spells Failed to Enchant Store Shelves

hamispink

It's as if a game that requires several expensive accessories that don't come with a $250 dollar console was doomed to failure . They should have held off of wonderbook until the ps4's release. At least then the camera would have been bundled, and the technically could made the game to not require move.

Re: PlayStation Vita Sales Surpass 62,000 Units in Japan Post Price Cut

hamispink

To those demanding a memory card price cut, I don't think it's going to happen. The point of the high prices is to offset the cost of manufacturing the vita itself, and a price drop on the system will only increase the need for this practice. Also, the number of people who would buy a vita and even know about the memory card prices is small. To the mass market, all that matters is the base price, the accessories don't really become a factor until after the sale is made. The Xbox's success is proof of that with it's insanely priced hard drives.

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Putting Too Much Faith in the Killzone Franchise?

hamispink

I'm getting both. I really liked Killzone 3, both single player and multiplayer, and I enjoyed Killzone 2's campaign. I'd say the franchise holds more clout than most playstation franchises, as it the last two entries have sold over 2.5 million units each. The only games that beat those numbers are LBP, GOW, Uncharted, and of course, Gran Turismo. I'd say Killzone is their best choice for both showing off both the power of the PS4, and giving people a quality shooter right from day one.

edit: I should also add that If Sony wants to gain more traction in America for both the PS4 and vita, a well-known shooter is a must, like it or not.

Re: Yes, You'll Be Able to Download Every PS4 Game on Launch Day

hamispink

I plan to do the same thing with PS4 as I did with a PS3 and only download multiplayer games. Its really convenient to always have multiplayer ready for parties and friends, but when I'm I don't mind getting up and finding a disc. I also feel like I'll need as much extra space as I can get as I've more than filled my 320 GB hard drive with my 100+ PS plus games .

Re: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Will Cuddle PS3 This Year

hamispink

Cool, I've been looking forward to playing through these again, as well as trying Chains of Memories and Birth by sleep (when the inevitable 2.5 releases). Now the only trouble is that on this timeline, 2.5 will release after the PS4, so I'll definitely have to keep my PS3 hooked up.

Re: Feature: PlayStation Vita Is One Year Old, Here Are Five Games You Must Play

hamispink

@belmont @hydeks I'm in a similar situation with my 3DS. I know that there are many great games on the system, but games that interest me with out the word "Mario" in the name are few and far between. I've started to play it more lately, and I'm looking forward to trying the MH3 demo this weekend, but I haven't touched the thing in months because I've had too many games to play on my vita!

Re: PlayStation Vita Is One Year Old, Here Are Five Games You Must Play

hamispink

Great short-list of games, but Persona 4 Golden takes the cake by far. I really enjoyed LittleBigPlanet, and I can't wait for a Gravity Rush sequel, but Persona 4 stood out as the only outstanding game of the year for me(on any platform for that matter). Until I played Persona 4, I thought that 2012 was an overall good year for games, but with no standouts like Uncharted 2 or Bioshock. Now I just need to pick up Far Cry 3.

Re: PlayStation 4 Specifications Harness Extraordinary Power

hamispink

The specs are good, but not insane, which is a good thing considering I don't want to pay $599! The cpu seems disappointing, but does a game console really need an outstanding cpu? from what I understand the GPU is quite capable, and with the extremely fast RAM, and the cpu/gpu being placed together, there is almost no latency between the components, and they will be able to send as much information as possible at once.
